In 2022, Netflix and showrunner Ryan Murphy released Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story to mixed reviews and a tremendous amount of controversy.
While the series received acclaim from some critics for its performances and its unflinching portrayal of Dahmer's grisly crimes, others felt that the show went too far in humanizing the monster at its core.
Now, Murphy is preparing to court controversy again, this time with the story of Erik and Lyle Menendez.
The Menendez brothers are far more sympathetic figures than Dahmer, but the fact remains that they committed two brutal murders, which the show will likely depict in graphic detail.
Their murder trial became a national sensation when it was broadcast on Court TV in 1993, but our younger readers might be hearing the Menendez name for the first time.
So here's a rundown of what you can expect from a show that's sure to generate a lot...

Pressman Film is a production company that was founded by Ed Pressman, a prolific producer of over 90 films, including the likes of Wall Street, American Psycho, and The Crow. Sadly, Pressman passed away earlier this year at the age of 79. Now his son Sam Pressman is the CEO of Pressman Film, which recently rebooted The Crow – and landed an eight-figure domestic distribution deal for the film with Lionsgate. Moving forward, the company is working with Antoine Fuqua on a project called The Street, which was written by Goodfellas‘ Nicholas Pileggi, and planning an adaptation of the 1975 Edward Abbey novel The Monkey Wrench Gang, which will be directed by Catfish‘s Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. They’re also trying to figure out how they can exploit titles in the Pressman Film library… and in a recent article, Deadline mentions that endeavor might involve remakes of the 1980 holiday horror film Christmas Evil...

I do love checking out directorial debuts, I so do. Especially when it looks like the first-time director is flexing that creative muscle in a realm you might not exactly associate with their usual body of work. So the thought of Joe Lo Truglio of Brooklyn Nine-Nine fame making what promised to be some sort of psychological survival thriller type thing starring actress Beth Dover (Orange is the New Black). Well, it is safe to say I was super intrigued by this prospect and couldn’t wait to check out Outpost.

"Routine is key. Your head needs that. Three months is a long time." Gravitas has unveiled an official trailer for an indie thriller titled Outpost, marking the directorial debut of actor Joe Lo Truglio. He directed a few TV episodes for the shows he's been in, but this is his first feature film. It premiered at FrightFest last year, and opens in the US this May. Kate seeks recovery from a violent assault by taking a job as a "fire lookout", but becomes increasingly overwhelmed by her isolation and tragic past. A story about pain, what happens when you run from it, how it always catches up and controls what you see & hear. It commands what you do. If you don’t face your demons, they'll come to face you. Outpost stars Beth Dover, Ato Essandoh, Dylan Baker, Becky Ann Baker, Dallas Roberts, Ta'Rea Campbell, Tim Neff, and D.R. Anderson.

Many shows use their series finale as an opportunity to bring back characters from the past and “Rest in Peace,” the last episode of The Walking Dead, was no exception. The zombie drama’s final hour indeed brought back some familiar faces both in flashback form and in the present. You can read about that particularly thrilling latter passage over here so you don’t get spoiled in this space. But the finale came with some other cameos that you may have missed.
No, we’re not talking about the fact that Chandler Riggs (formerly Carl Grimes) turned up on set and got to be a background extra in an Alexandria scene. Nor are we talking about the fact that series producer and this episode’s director Greg Nicotero portrayed a zombie yet again (you can see him in the image accompanying this article). After 11 seasons and 177 episodes, the AMC TV series The Walking Dead officially came to an end last night – and longtime viewers got a special treat during the series finale’s commercial breaks. In ads for Autodesk, Deloitte, DoorDash, Mntn, and Ring that were produced by Ryan Reynolds’ company Maximum Effort and AMC Networks’ Content Room, the products are hyped by zombified versions of long-lost Walking Dead characters Rodney (dead since season 9), Milton (dead since season 3), Gareth (dead since season 5), and Andrea (also dead since season 3). Actors Joe Ando Hirsh, Dallas Roberts, Andrew West, and Laurie Holden reprised their roles for these commercials. A compilation of the “Walking Deadvertising” commercials can be seen at the bottom of this article.
Deadline notes that Dan Sanborn of Kimmelot, which is Jimmy Kimmel’s company for “developing and producing television, digital programming, films, mobile applications, and products”, was also involved with “putting together the brand-straddling narratives.

Frank Darabont Explains The Original Plan For Laurie Holden's The Walking Dead Character [Exclusive]
When "The Walking Dead" first launched as a TV series with Frank Darabont as showrunner, one of the main cast members was Laurie Holden, who had co-starred in "The Mist," Darabont's film adaptation of the Stephen King novella. Holden's character, Andrea, was among the first group of zombie apocalypse survivors that viewers met, and she was based on a comic book character who lasted a lot longer on the page than Holden did on the show. In the "Walking Dead" comics, Andrea went on to develop a relationship with protagonist Rick Grimes, and she made it all the way to issue #167, published in 2017, fourteen years after her first appearance in issue #2.
Holden, on the other hand, exited the "Walking Dead" TV series in the season 3 finale, while Rick (Andrew Grimes) instead developed a relationship with Michonne (Danai Gurira), who made her first appearance on the show opposite Laurie. Andrea would...

Taking advantage of the expected mass tune-in for tonight’s finale of The Walking Dead, a handful of ads featuring characters who died during the show’s 11-season run has given fans reason to not look away during commercial breaks.

When the woman he truly loves sees her son accused of murder, Harris is forced to decide what he’s willing to do to protect him.
In addition to Roberts and Tierney, American Rust also stars Bill Camp, David Alvarez, Alex Neustaedter and newcomer Julia Mayorga.
Roberts will play Jackson Berg, who is struggling to hang onto his own pharmacy through tough economic times and the rabid expansion of chain drugstores.

Amazon has opted not to order a second season of Utopia, its straight-to-series adaptation of the British drama, written by Gone Girl author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn. The series, starring John Cusack, Sasha Lane and Rainn Wilson, premiered on Sept. 25 to so-so reviews and had a quiet run.
Utopia follows a group of young adults who meet online that are mercilessly hunted by a shadowy deep state organization after they come into possession of a near-mythical cult underground graphic novel. Within the comic’s pages, they discover the conspiracy theories that may actually be real and are forced into the dangerous, unique and ironic position of saving the world.
The Amazon adaptation was a co-production between Endemol Shine North America/Kudos and Amazon Studios. Executive producing alongside Flynn were Jessica Rhoades, Sharon Hall, Karen Wilson and Dennis Kelly.

There will be no third season for Insatiable. Netflix has canceled the dark, twisted revenge comedy starring Debby Ryan, Dallas Roberts, and Alyssa Milano after two seasons. Milano revealed the cancellation decision to a fan on Twitter earlier this month. Today, she posted an update, thanking fans.
This is sadly true. We had the most fun creating this show. I want to thank the fans who gave us a shot and kept coming back for more. Season 1 & 2 are still streaming. P.S. Any thoughts on who was Coralee’s baby daddy? I guess we will never know.

Turns out Netflix’s appetite for “Insatiable” wasn’t entirely, well, insatiable.
The dark comedy, which faced considerable backlash and was accused of promoting fat shaming before it even premiered, has been canceled by Netflix after two seasons.
“Insatiable” followed Patty (Debby Ryan), who for years has been bullied, ignored, and underestimated by those around her because of her weight. But now that she finds herself suddenly thin, Patty is out for payback against anyone who has ever made her feel bad about herself.
In addition to Ryan, the series starred Dallas Roberts, Alyssa Milano, Christopher Gorham, Erinn Westbrook, Michael Provost, Kimmy Shields, Irene Choi, and Sarah Colonna. Lauren Gussis created the series and served as executive producer alongside Ryan Seacrest, Nina Wass, Andrea Shay, Todd Hoffman, and Dennis Kim. CBS Television Studios produced the show.
Milano appeared to confirm the news in a tweet from Feb. 4.

It's game over for Netflix's Insatiable.
The series has been canceled after two seasons ,according to series star, Alyssa Milano.
The actress responded to a fan who asked about a potential third season earlier this month.
"We will not be coming back, sadly," she said on Twitter.
Given that Insatiable Season 2 launched in October and Netflix has not renewed it, it seemed the series was not going to be renewed.
The streamer typically makes renewal or cancellation decisions around four weeks after a show premieres, so it is likely the second season failed to live up to expectations in terms of viewers.
Insatiable followed Patty Bladell, a teenager who was constantly bullied in school for being overweight.
After being on a liquid diet for three months over summer vacation because of a freak accident, she is now thin and seeks revenge on her bullies.

For nearly two decades, Edward Norton has been trying to realize his passion project — a film version of Jonathan Lethem’s landmark 1999 novel Motherless Brooklyn. Now the film is here, sporting a few signs of artistic struggle, but nonetheless an ardent and ambitious triumph for writer-producer-director-star Norton. You might think multi-hyphenate Norton would err on the side of hat-in-hand faithfulness in adapting Lethem’s bestseller about an unlikely New York private detective with Tourette syndrome. Not the case. Norton has moved the novel’s 1990s setting backwards to 1957 (yup, the...

Just when you think writer-director Edward Norton has already given you a whole lot to chew on in his neo-noir “Motherless Brooklyn,” he adds more things. And not all of them are satisfying.
To be fair, “Motherless Brooklyn” would be really great as an episodic TV series. Or perhaps if it was divided by chapter titles to punctuate the packed plot. But Norton tries, and about 50% succeeds, to adapt Jonathan Lethem’s sprawling novel of the same name into an intriguing masterwork.
It at least begins as many great noirs do — with a mysterious murder. New York City private detective Lionel Essrog (Norton) is on watch duty in a car as his superior and mentor Frank Minna (Bruce Willis) takes the lead on a sketchy new case. All of a sudden, Frank is shuffled out of view and killed. A grief-stricken Lionel makes it his mission to find out who killed his friend,...

There’s an admirable quality to the earnestness with which Edward Norton has tackled this adaptation of Motherless Brooklyn. A supposedly unfilmable novel, Norton has opted to make it his sophomore directorial outing. Bold move. Unfortunately, also a bit of folly on his part. For numerous reasons, this is a big time misfire, without too many redeeming qualities. It looks good, at least, but too much of what’s happening is of little interest. What could have been an epic noir instead is a tremendous letdown. Opening this week, it’s far from an Academy Award contender and likely will disappoint most who seek it out. The movie is, as mentioned above, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Jonathan Lethem. Set in 1950s New York City, we follow private detective Lionel Essrog (Norton), a lonely man struggling with Tourette’s Syndrome. Most see him as a freak,...

Lionel Essrog (Edward Norton), a lonely private detective living with Tourette Syndrome, ventures to solve the murder of his mentor and only friend, Frank Minna (Bruce Willis). Armed only with a few clues and the engine of his obsessive mind, Lionel unravels closely guarded secrets that hold the fate of New York in the balance. In a mystery that carries him from gin-soaked jazz clubs in Harlem to the hard-edged slums of Brooklyn and, finally, into the gilded halls of New York’s power brokers, Lionel contends with thugs, corruption and the most dangerous man in the city to honor his friend and save the woman who might be his own salvation.
Oscar nominee Edward Norton directed, wrote, produced and stars in “Motherless Brooklyn.” The film’s journey to the screen began in 1999 when Norton saw the cinematic potential in Jonathan Lethem’s novel Motherless Brooklyn and its unforgettable central character.

Patty is back at it again in the season two trailer for Insatiable . . . and by that we mean she's potentially going on a murder spree? Oh boy.
Season two of the beauty queen comedy, one of Netflix's most controversial series, is set to premiere on Oct. 11, and the recently dropped trailer promises to pick up exactly where the first batch of episodes left off. In case you need a refresher on where that is, exactly, here's the deal: after a lot of emotional upheaval following her weight loss and decision to wreck havoc on the lives of everyone who treated her like garbage because of her appearance, Patty (played by Debby Ryan) ends season one by beating bad-boy Christian (James Lastovic) to death with a crowbar.
It's mainly in self-defense after she discovers that he drugged and kidnapped Magnolia (Erinn Westbrook) for them to kill together. Even then, she's...

Get ready to eat your heart out, “Insatiable” fans, ’cause the Season 2 trailer has arrived.
In the 1-minute, 53-second video, which you can view above, Debby Ryan returns as Patty, a binge-eating beauty queen who committed murder on the Season 1 finale and is now apparently a suspect. But she’s still pretty and, as Magnolia points out in the trailer, “you can get away with a lot when you’re hot.”
Though we’re not sure she’s gotten her rage, over-eating or body image issues under control just yet. In fact, all of the above might have just gotten worse.

Patty’s at it again! Netflix on Monday released the trailer for Insatiable‘s upcoming second season (Oct. 11), teasing more insane shenanigans courtesy of Debby Ryan‘s bloodthirsty beauty queen character.
In case you’re a little fuzzy about where Insatiable left off, here’s a quick refresher: Season 1 ended with Patty (Ryan) beating Christian to death with a crowbar after discovering that he roofied Magnolia (Erinn Westbrook) and stuffed her in the back of his car. The fact that Patty repeatedly screamed “I’m a good person!” while committing this murder should give you some idea of her current mental state.

Jonathan Lethem’s 1999 novel “Motherless Brooklyn” combined the classic potboiler ingredients of a Dashiell Hammett yarn with contemporary postmodern flourishes. For his long-gestating adaptation, Edward Norton takes the material at face value, transplanting the story to a period-appropriate ‘50s milieu, resulting in a sturdy old-fashioned detective story with a lot on its mind. Above all else, it’s carried by the actor-director’s distinctive leading role, as a wandering investigator with Tourette’s Syndrome; his affection for the material comes through with a poignant performance and a sharp, expressionistic mood. Drop the occasional Thom Yorke composition and an all-too-resonant theme about urban gentrification, and this Warner Bros. crime caper wouldn’t look too out of place in the era it takes place.
Norton’s sophomore effort behind the camera comes nearly 20 years after his 2000 romcom “Keeping the Faith,” and it couldn’t be more different. Helped along by formidable turns...
