Kun få plasser, men som oftest god plass i benkeradene. Klassikere jeg ikke har sett, eller kanskje har sett en gang for lenge siden, men glemt, prioriteres. Begynte 2020 med et forsett om å se færre serier og mer film. Holder på den, men erfaring viser at dukker det opp en god serie, så vil avvik skje.
Fasit for samlet tid brukt på film og serier i 2022 er lik 21716 minutter, eller omsatt til timer 361 timer og 56 minutter. Til sammenlikning litt mindre tid enn i 2021 hvor jeg endte på 375 timer. 02.10. TBSK åpner året med Jane Campion, og for en åpning. Campions genistrek ligger i en gjennomført dyrking av westernmytologien som så vris til det ukjente. Med det endres sjangeren, og byr på et annerledes bilde av livet på prærien. Kort gjenfortalt bor de to svært ulike brødrene Phil og George på en stor ranch omgitt av vill og storslått natur. Phil, spilt av Benedict Cumberbatch, er en klassisk cowboy som drikker, røyker, spiller banjo og skaper frykt rundt seg. George (Jesse Plemons) virker utilpass med ranchlivet, og ser ut som han helst ville ha ønsket et rolig og dannet liv. Da han får napp hos krovertinne Rose (Kirsten Dunst) som lever alene med sønnen Peter etter at ektemannen hang seg, flytter de sammen til familieranchen til Phils irritasjon. Han gjør sitt ytterste for å fryse Rose ut, som svarer med å ty til alkoholen som trøst. Peter, spilt av Kodi Smit-McPhee, blir også utsatt for trakassering fra ranchens machomenn med Phil i spissen. Men, Peter er langt mindre skjør enn hans ytre fremtoning antyder. Det er i denne skildringen filmen gjør så stort inntrykk på meg. Peter blir omdreiningspunktet for det som i første del av filmen ser ut som sosialrealistisk tragedie i cowboyhatt, til noe helt annet. Jeg skal ikke si mer, men dele en assosiasjon. Dere som har vært på Århus kunstmuseum ARoS, og sett Ron Muecks Boy, vil kanskje forstå hva jeg mener. Den enorme skulpturen som sitter krumbøyd i sine trange kortbukser skjuler ansiktet sitt, slik at du kun ved å gå rundt ham kan se hele uttrykket, blikk og munn. Slik forandrer skikkelsen seg og totalopplevelsen. Peter vokser i løpet inn i fortellingen som dens hovedperson, og han sprenger de forventninger og fordommer som tilskueren måtte ha om ham, uten at dette (i tråd med normen) gjør ham til en sympatisk helt. Både Benedict Cumberbatch og Kodi Smit-McPhee melder seg på i kampen om gjeve filmpriser her. Oppdatering 10.01: Golden Globe ble utdelt i natt norsk tid, og The Power of the Dog fikk pris som beste dramafilm, pris for beste regi til Jane Campion og beste mannlige birolle: Kodi Smit-McPhee (som etter min mening kan diskuteres om egentlig spiller hovedrollen).

Sorrentinos biografiske oppvekstskldring er et skritt bort fra det ekspressive og stilistiske grepene som har blitt noe av en signatur i filmer som La Grande Belezza, Loro (om Berlusconi), Youth (hvor også Maradona tar del i historien) og seriene The Young Pope og The New Pope. Mer lavmælt, men også her med scener som fester seg. En åpenbar forklaring på stilskiftet er at Sorrentinos faste filmfotograf Luca Bigazzi her er erstattet med Daria D’Antonio. Jeg vet ikke om kjønn er av betydning. Også Bigazzi har skapt rørende og vare scener som i den uforglemmelige nattevandringen til Jep og hans utkårede fra Aventinerhøyden og blant Romas palasser. De eksplosive og ekstravagante scenene uteblir imidlertid i The Hand of God, og det kler historien. Sorrentinos tragedie skildres her og blir vendepunktet i fortellingen. Filmen er en flukt fra en virkelighet som ikke er levelig lenger. Maradona er som gudesendt til Napoli, men han er ingen gud uavhengig av hvor sterkt napolitanerne tror på ham. Han vil også gjøre sine feil og forlate dem. Fabio velger filmen for å ha mulighet til å skape sin virkelighet - slik Fellini gjorde. Verden var for vanskelig, men i filmen kunne den håndteres.
