Offret (1986)
Good philosophy, bad film
Tarkovsky's films always have good dialogues about life, and an interesting philosophy in relation to spirituality, but I don't think they are masterpieces, it seems to me that Tarkovsky was a good philosopher who made films, but he was not good at directing, his films have too many pseudo-intellectual scenes that try to elevate the films to masterpieces, but that do not give any meaning to the film, and make it very artificial, very boring to see.
Nostalghia (1983)
Good poetry, boring movie
Tarkovsky's films have an interesting existential component and good poems, but that's it, this film is very boring. Takovsky has a cinema style that is not objective, it is difficult to stay focused, because the story often loses itself in irrelevant dialogues. I liked Stalker, but his films have too many scenes where nothing useful for the development of the narrative happens.
Lost Highway (1997)
An immersive experience
What I like most about David Lynch's surreal thrillers, is his ability to make films with a deep look into parallel stories and perspectives around the real plot, which gives us clues about the central events of the film and makes us wonder how it happened, resulting in a different film for each person who watches it, being open to personal interpretation. This movie have a similar Mulholland Drive concept, we have the delusion of the main character in the first person about himself and his life, it's a trip inside human psyche, a careful mix of cognitive dissonance between reality, distorted memories and fantasy.
Boze Cialo (2019)
What is good and what is evil?
What is good and what is evil sometimes are not so clear and easy to define due to our cultural background and our moral code as society. This movie leaves us with the question; to what extent condemning evil, it's not also creating more evil?
Gisaengchung (2019)
Movie of the year
This film is completely out of the box, a social critic that doesn't choose sides. An absolutely brilliant masterpiece that takes us to a roller coaster of emotions with some kind of new cinematographic genre, that shudder and leave us groundless in a state of deep reflection about the model of society in which we live in. For those looking for an innovative film, with an unusual style, and with a necessary and relevant reflexion, Parasite is the right and the better choice. Impressive work by the director.
Ladri di biciclette (1948)
Overrated Movie
The plot idea is interesting, the postwar environment is engaging, but the movie turns out to be boring and low in juice, misses more emotional burden, and the ending is disappointing because you don't realize what lesson is left for the father and to the son. The ending scene could have saved the movie, but it's not a good ending.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Worst Tarantino Movie
I'm a big fan of Tarantino movies, but I have to admit that this is his worst movie, a waste of a brilliant cast, for a movie without purpose. The typical Tarantino ending was meaningless in this movie, it looks like we're watching two different styles, one that happens throughout the whole movie, and one in the final scene. Very boring movie. The usual phenomenon of "high scoring film just because the director is reputable", I realize that it should make people feel intellectual by always giving good marks to well-known filmmakers, but it really misleads those who are guided by IMDB scores. If this movie were from a lesser known director the IMDB score would probably be 5/6.
Shahsiyet (2018)
I was expecting more
After seeing the 9.1 ranking of this series, I decided to watch it, and I like to watch it, very good main character and plot. The end is really great, but the majority of episodes until there needed more tension and breathtaking scenes, sometimes it gets boring, lacking emotional depth and touching strong subjects in a soft way. Overall it's worth watching but i get the feeling that the show had potential for way more.
My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown (1989)
Outstanding performance by Daniel Day-Lewis
My Left Foot is a good movie with a sincere reflection on the hypocrisy of the time, regarding the inclusion of people with disabilities in society, and what it takes to overcome these difficulties and all the tabus. A great tribute to a man who transcended himself beyond all expectations. I gave it 7 because the movie could have gone further emotionally, but no doubt it's worth seeing.
Dolor y gloria (2019)
Boring movie
Just because it's a movie directed by Almodóvar it doesn't mean it's automatically a good movie. People tend to make that confusion, when they like some director they rank every movie as good even if it's really bad as this one, that explain the high rank and the good critics of this movies, praising films of established directors seems to be an intellectual trend, regardless of movie quality. One of the worst movies i watched this year, if not the worst, it's painfull to watch, banal story, extensive dialogues taking you nowhere, and one pretentious last scene that adds nothing to the movie. It's unclear what the purpose of this movie is, and what the message it wants to convey, I didn't feel any emotional connection in the whole movie.
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Deep meaning, boring movie
This movie was made in 1968, and for the time it have a great concept and a clever looking into how human race looks at it's own existence. But it's really boring most of the time nothing happens, you will watch two and a half hours of movie, but only 40 minutes or less of it really matters, it's too much time watching planets, stars and ships. In my opinion it had the potential to be a great movie, the idea it's really great, but it's not the masterpiece movie everyone says it is.
The Man Who Wasn't There (2001)
It´s a good movie
I love Coen's movies, the lines, the construction of the characters and the comic non sense mood that reminds me of Tarantino movie's, but they overuse it all, the story and the plot are a bit forgotten in the background, and what could be an outstanding movie ends up being just a good movie. But definitely it's worth watching.
Melancholia (2011)
Slow movie with classic music soundtrack, that's it
I think there are people who when they see a slow movie with classical music as a soundtrack will always say automatically "brilliant, spectacular, amazing", but I think that's not enough, the movie is boring and predictable, there are many dialogues but without emotional depth it's trivial talk all the time, movie talks about depression portraying a depressed character as a provocative person making the victim role, it doesn't thrill at any time, it's too cold it has not led me to identify with any character, it's just cinema for intellectuals who appreciate classical music in slow movies, almost to lull us for not pay attention to the void of ideas, a movie cannot be just that for the highest grade. And i'm not saying that i don't like slow movies, actually i love most of them, but this one is a failed attempt to be a masterpiece.
Crash (2004)
Movie with good intentions, and a bad execution
This movie has so many parallel stories and flaws that makes emotional connection with the characters impossible. It's too boring to watch, too much racial scenes that hardly happen in real life, nothing seems to be real in this movie, everything is too forced, too many pointless parts, like a feiled shot to a child in his father's lap, where his father then turns around his back and simply goes home doing nothing, sexual harassment by a police officer to a woman in front of her husband and her husband not being affected either during either after that scene, a man has a car robber trying to steal his car In the right seat of the car, while he's chased by the police and ordered to stop and starts arguing with the cops instead of reporting the car robber, a movie with an interesting story, but awful directed.
Memento (2000)
Nolan always surprising
It's brilliant how this movie was put together, a story that had everything to be banal, has turned into a monstrous movie about amnesia and what it feel's like to be in the role of the main character.
Saw (2004)
Not my kind of movie but...
This film revolutionized the genre, few film has the quality of history and the crudity of this intense thriller. Simply brilliant!
The Hateful Eight (2015)
The best tarantino movie!
Is it just me that I think this is the best Tarantino movie overall? Photography, soundtrack, the cast, the lines, the story, the twist ... How does so much quality fit in a single movie?
Interstellar (2014)
A movie to question our existence
A film that gives us proposals about our purpose as humans, about the concept of time and space, and about the most intimate places inside the human being, is like going outside inside. Nolan did it again...
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
This movie will swallow you, chew you and throw you away
Film that plunges us into a completely immersive suffocation is more than a movie, it is an experience that does not happen often in cinema. Best Jared Leto character of his career? Probably.
Cidade de Deus (2002)
There are few words to describe this movie
Raw, sincere, carefree, without false pretense, order in the midst of chaos, a movie we should all see at least once in a lifetime.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
A deconstruction of love
If you don't like romantic movies because they spoil the concept of love, this movie is for you. Out of the box movie!
Westworld (2016)
What is real in life?
How to adapt the plot of a banal movie into a series about human consciousness and reality? The answer is Westworld, it's like going to an opera, everything is poetic and delicate. A breath of fresh air in the tv series universe, let's see if season 3 keeps the bar high.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (2008)
A movie that stirs the soul's gut...
Dramatic, poetic, raw, tragic, passionate, a return to the innocence of childhood in a contrasting and heavy environment. A must see in the world war II movie category, great cast here!
Following (1998)
My favourite Low Budget movie!
You wanna see a mind blown story, and a super engaging noir movie in a kind of psycho environment. Nolan did it superbly!
The Dark Knight (2008)
Christopher Nolan what else?
I would say the best superhero movie of all time, but it's not the usual cliche blockbuster, and the main thing isn't superheroes actually, it's more like a psycho/mind/dark philosophy thriller. It's detailed, intense and engaiging, and of course, the last and best performance of Heath Ledger, it's too deep.
