Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen opened with a bang on Netflix.
The series, a spinoff of Ritchie’s 2019 film, delivered almost 1.21 billion minutes of viewing over its first four days (it premiered March 7), according to Nielsen’s streaming rankings for March 4-10. It ranked second among all streaming series for the week, behind Love Is Blind (1.5 billion minutes), which repeated as the top overall title.
Netflix also got a big first week for Millie Bobby Brown’s movie Damsel, which edged The Gentlemen for second place overall: Damsel had 1.209 billion minutes of viewing to 1.205 billion for The Gentlemen. Two other shows also topped the billion-minute mark — Bluey (1.1 billion on Disney+) and Brooklyn Nine-Nine (1.04 billion on Netflix and Peacock).
After a huge opening and a strong second week, Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender fell by about 51 percent to 950 million minutes, still good for sixth place overall and third among original series.

After the massive success of his previous film ‘Kannur Sqaud’, Malayalam megastar Mammootty has begun shooting for his next project ‘Turbo’. On his official YouTube channel, the actor posted a 48 second clip which marked the commencement of the film’s shooting.
In the short video, the process of action direction and set design was detailed as it showcased the car stunt which the actor pulled off in his black landcruiser.
In addition, an entire set was designed outside to make it look like a small urban cityscape as well as a village.
Meeting up with the cast and crew, the small video was primarily focused on the car stunt of the film as ‘Turbo’ will apparently involve a lot of car stunts.
However, the actor was performing the stunt on his own which was simple enough but hard to time.

“Action star” may be Arnold Schwarzenegger’s most frequent label, but he’s just as skilled with a heartfelt moment, as these movies prove. Kindergarten Cop (1990) Arnold + precocious kindergartners = big laughs. Going from tough detective to (undercover) teacher who warms to the kids as he protects them, Schwarzenegger gets an A+. Bonus: romantic chemistry with Penelope Ann Miller as a mom and fellow teacher. As Arnold’s smart but naive Julius seeks out their mom, DeVito’s shifty Vincent focuses on scoring a big payday. What do they both find? Family! Car racing has always found its appeal among cinema goers, and particularly in fans of animation, with the success of titles like “Cars”, “Turbo” “Redline” etc proving the fact in the most eloquent fashion. Apparently, it turns out that animation can capture the speed needed for the genre, as much as the sci-fi elements usually incorporated in these kinds of films. “Rally Road Racers” is definitely among those titles.

The Nielsen streaming charts had a first for the week of March 6-12: Seven different platforms made an appearance in the various top 10 lists.
Paramount+’s Star Trek: Picard made its first ever appearance in the rankings, finishing ninth among original series with 310 million minutes of viewing as it reached the midpoint of its third season. Picard is the second Paramount+ original series to make the rankings, following 1923 two weeks earlier. (NCIS, which streams on both Paramount+ and Netflix, led the acquired series chart.)
Ted Lasso also put Apple TV+ back in the rankings with the premiere of its third season, racking up 539 million minutes of watch time. Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max had multiple titles in the top 10s. Peacock had two entries in the top 10 movies (including a shared one with Netflix for Turbo), and Hulu’s movie Boston Strangler also made the film chart.

Tuesday’s iTunes chart saw a surge for two A24 Oscar-winning films. However, neither of the winning Netflix titles saw its winners reenter the top 10 chart. This week also saw three different films lead the top VOD charts, which is unusual, but even weirder is none placed on all three.
“Everything Everywhere All at Once” ($19.99) and “The Whale” ($4.99) jumped to #1 and 2 at iTunes, a platform that’s typically quick to reflect increased interest. The films also climbed to second and third at Google Play, more likely reflecting weekend pre-Oscars interest.
Google Play has “Dragon Ball Hero: Super Hero” on top, while Vudu showed “80 for Brady” as #1. “A Man Called Otto” (Sony/$14.99) was a flop as an adult-appeal awards contender, but it came out on top of VOD charts the week before the Oscars. Challenging its dominance is a strong performance by “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” (Crunchyroll/$9.99), which took #1 at Google Play while “Otto” led at Vudu and iTunes.
Netflix has an eye-popping nine theatrical releases on its top 10, including six studio sequels. Among those are four separate “Hunger Games” franchise entries, despite those films spending years in constant basic-cable rotation.
Neither “Otto” nor “Dragon” spent much time at a premium price. Sony quickly dropped the price of “Otto” from its initial $19.99. “Dragon,” from the Sony-owned Japanese anime label Crunchyroll, was introduced as a $9.99 purchase.
It opened in U.S. theaters last August, the same week that “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village” opened to over $10 million.

Murray Bartlett, who starred as Armond in HBO’s “The White Lotus,” will star as producer-choreographer Nick De Noia in “Immigrant,” Hulu’s upcoming limited series about Chippendales founder Somen “Steve” Banerjee.
Written, executive produced and co-showrun by Robert Siegel, the series follows Banerjee’s (Kumail Nanjiani) darkly comedic, crime-ridden journey as an Indian-American immigrant creating what became a wildly popular male revue show.
Nick De Noia is described as a charming, fast-talking New Yorker who sees himself as God’s gift to entertainment. While regularly indulging in his loves of drinking, drugs, women and men, he helped Banerjee take the Chippendales from a seedy West LA venture to the global popularity it eventually reached.
Along with leading “The White Lotus,” Bartlett has starred as Dominic Basaluzzo in HBO’s “Looking” and Michael “Mouse” Tolliver in Netflix’s “Tales of the City.” He is repped by Anonymous Content, Paradigm Talent Agency,...

What would spooky season be without the Sanderson Sisters? Thanks to Freeform, we’ll never have to find out.
The cable network’s annual 31 Nights of Halloween lineup features 14 showings of Hocus Pocus, the beloved 1993 film starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy — and while that may seem like a lot, keep in mind that Freeform aired the Walt Disney flick a whopping 30 (!) times in 2019. (Of course, you can watch Hocus Pocus as many times as you’d like with a subscription to Disney+, but who are we to suggest a commercial-free viewing experience?)

Power Rangers in Space was a revolutionary entry in the Power Rangers franchise. The show had certainly evolved over the previous five seasons but In Space was a quantum leap forward. Airing in 1998 on Fox Kids, the series featured serialized plots, character arcs with depth, and gifts for longtime fans in the form of returning Rangers and villains. Nearly 25 years later, the series remains highly regarded, many elements of it even making their way into the current Power Rangers comics.
But it all could have been so very different. Imagine a version of In Space where Astronema wasn’t the big bad, Red Ranger Andros didn’t exist, and Power Rangers Turbo’s Justin is a a main character! At one point in time these were real possibilities.
To discuss all this we need to go back to May 1997, back around the time the second half of Turbo was beginning to be written.

A kid named Lucky loses her mother, moves to the frontier with her father and befriends a wild mustang in “Spirit Untamed.” While experienced professionals fail to break the strong-willed stallion, Lucky (who has never ridden a horse) feeds it a few apples, and before long, the youngster has tamed the obstinate animal — which is inconsistent with this cheap and all-around lazy animated movie’s title, but chalk that up to marketing.
While Disney churns out live-action remakes of its most popular cartoons, DreamWorks Animation has another strategy: For every modestly successful theatrical release, it spins off an episodic TV series to Netflix or Nickelodeon to keep the characters alive and the merch in demand.
With “Spirit Untamed,” the studio comes full circle, producing an animated movie based on the animated series (“Spirit Riding Free”) based on the 2002 animated feature “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.” It’s not clear whether...

Chicago – A couple weeks ago, Netflix released for streaming the new animated film “Arlo the Alligator Boy” and immediately it went to 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (including a 4.5/5 on this forum). This fresh, delightful and full-of heart “2D” cartoon musical is the product of creator and director Ryan Crego.
Although this is Ryan Crego’s debut animated film, he is a veteran in the industry. He tells the story of his origins in the business on the interview, but his first big break came with Dreamwork’s “Shrek Forever After.” From there he worked on notable film and TV projects such as “Puss in Boots,” “Kung Fu Panther 2.” “Peabody & Sherman,” “Sanjay and Craig,” in addition to voice work on “Rise of the Guardians” and “Turbo.” The characters of Arlo and his friends will break out into their own Netflix series, with a release date yet to come.

Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie is, at best, a glorified TV movie. Made when Power Rangers’ popularity was in slow decline after the zenith of the Mighty Morphin days, the film makes no pretense that it’s trying to be any kind of cultural event like the first film attempted to be. Instead, it only half-heartedly tries to bring in a new audience with the addition of kid Ranger Justin and struggles to please hardcore Power Rangers fans.
The story –new villain Divatox makes her way to a mystical island to marry an ancient evil and the Rangers have to stop her — limps along with little forward momentum. Guest alien character Lerigot, who speaks in an alien language nearly the whole movie, gets equal if not more screen time than Justin. There’s little to no character development for the main cast. It also takes over an hour and 10 minutes...

With The Umbrella Academy returning for a second season this Friday, superhero shows remain a solid investment for Netflix. Whether licensed or original, the US version of Netflix currently has 61 superhero-themed series available to stream, including multiple shows from the Arrowverse, the Netflix McU originals and quite a ridiculous amount of Power Rangers content. What are some of the highlights, then, of Netflix’s superpowered series?
Well, in terms of The CW’s Arrowverse, Netflix has the back catalogue of Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, and Supergirl, as well as Black Lightning, which taken together represents 536 episodes. While the quality of the shows may vary at times, the Arrowverse is arguably one of the best adaptations of the DC Universe to the screen and showed the potential of television to embrace the storytelling format of comics. Using Christmas Day as a jumping off point, the last weekend of 2019 will enjoy a full five days of movie going with children out of school, parents off work and families looking for someplace warm to spend a few hours and there is plenty to choose from. Disney hopes audiences will turn up for the second weekend of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker while new offerings include Fox's animated feature Spies in Disguise, Sony's Little Women and A24 has gone wide with Uncut Gems. The last time Christmas fell on a Wednesday was 2013 and before that 2002, so we'll be looking at those two weekends for some guidance as to just how well this weekend's films will perform thanks to the lucrative holiday timing.

Along with its epic soundtrack and colorful set design, Netflix's Daybreak is packed with witty dialogue perfect for a teen-dominated, postapocalyptic world, reminiscent of Buffy meets Glee meets Mad Max. One of the quippiest moments thus far is delivered in a speech by Turbo Bro Jock, played by Riverdale heartthrob Cody Kearsley, in episode six. Turbo, who sustained an injury that rendered him speechless, basically taps a microphone, and a superfast flash of words takes over the screen à la the Star Wars opening crawl. Here's a little context around the speech - plus how you can catch it without pausing frame by frame (or resorting to Netflix's new speed features).
First, let's talk about Turbo's deal and the context of the speech. The textbook definition of a bully, Turbo is king of the jocks, and he really doesn't like the protagonist, Josh. He does have layers to...

Netflix has confirmed that 40 new original series, movies and specials will be debuting on the streaming service in September. Leading off lineup is the first season of “The Politician” from the Emmy-winning Ryan Murphy. This drama about an ambitious politico stars Tony champ Ben Platt and Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow. Among the other freshman series one of the most intriguing is “Criminals,” an anthology set in four police stations in the UK, France, Germany and Spain.
Two limited series tell true-life stories. “Unbelievable” chronicles the efforts of two detectives to discover the truth about an alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl. And “Spy” showcases Sacha Baron Cohen as Israeli Mossad agent Eli Cohen, who went undercover in 1960s Syria. Among the new films on offer is Zach Galifianakis’ satire “Between Two Ferns: The Movie.”

The lost ending to Power Rangers' Millennium Message nearly changed the whole show.
There’s an era of Power Rangers we never got to see. An era that contained different characters, different plots, and perhaps a cast that would have been with the show as long as the famous Tommy had. It all began (and was quietly cut short) with something called The Millennium Message.
The Millennium Message has perplexed Power Rangers fans for years. Originally appearing in the Power Rangers Turbo episode of the same name, the message was brought from the future by Blue Senturion. He was tricked by the season’s main villain, Divatox, into revealing its contents. The part of the message the audience got to see was all about how the universe’s greatest evils would join forces to destroy the Earth.
Another part of the message however played off screen as Blue Senturion said,...

Since February, the young Atlanta rappers Gunna and Lil Baby have become one of the most talked-about combos in hip-hop. On a string of releases — “Oh Okay” with fellow ATLien Young Thug, “Sold Out Dates” and the latest, “Drip Too Hard” — the pair have relied on a simple and beguiling formula: We-made-it boasts delivered in the tone of plaintive ballads. They match slippery vocal patterns that keen and decay with instrumentals full of flickering guitars and biting bass, often produced in part by producer Turbo.

Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before. And only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and an evolutionary biology professor can prevent all humanity from becoming the Predators’ trophies.
“It was an honor to work on a film that had such rich thematic heritage,” said wonderful dynamic Composer Henry Jackman. “Alan Silvestri’s fantastic score from the original has always been a favorite of mine and when asked if I would like to...

A perennial institution of children’s programming, the Power Rangers have stuck around for 25 seasons of punching rubber monsters in spandex and teaching us all valuable lessons about teamwork. Obviously, its longevity is at least partially due to how cheap it is to make, since every Power Rangers season is mostly repurposed from the long-running Japanese tokusatsu series “Super Sentai,” splicing Japan’s spandex fight footage and Zord fights and filming new stuff with English-speaking actors.
While most Power Rangers seasons can be more than a little formulaic, to say the least, never let it be said the show shied away from the surreal and bizarre. After all, this is a show whose basic plotline was that “teenagers with attitude” get in a giant robot made of dinosaurs to fight ghoulies sent by a witch who lives on the moon, under orders from a floating head in a tube. The production of Chicken Run brought together two companies with very different styles...
It had been quite a journey from just off the M5 in Bristol, to Los Angeles and the Academy Awards. But for British animation company Aardman, it was a journey that was taken reasonably regularly. Nick Park, for his Creature Comforts and Wallace & Gromit short films, was collecting regular statuettes, and at the of writing, he has four on his mantelpiece.
The frequent awards attentions required equally frequent journeys to the States. And on one such visit, Park – along with Aardman co-founder Peter Lord, amongst others – found themselves in the company of both Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg.
It was the right coincidence at the right time. At this stage, Spielberg and Katzenberg had just set up their hugely ambitious new studio, DreamWorks Skg (along with David Geffen). Katzenberg was to head up the animation division,...
