When the 2023 Emmy nominations were announced, Pedro Pascal made history as the first person to instantaneously go from having zero to three TV academy acting notices. His recognized body of work as a star of “The Last of Us,” narrator of “Patagonia” and guest host of “Saturday Night Live” serves as a full display of his talent, with his performance on the NBC sketch series being the strongest showcase of his versatility. If voters feel compelled to honor him somewhere, the choice to support his Best Comedy Guest Actor campaign may be rather simple.
Pascal made his “SNL” hosting debut on February 4, 2023, three weeks after “The Last of Us” first premiered on HBO. The actor kicks off the episode – which features music from Coldplay and a cameo from his friend and colleague, Sarah Paulson – with a monologue focused on his thriving career and then embodies a wide array of characters...

Jack Axelrod, the actor who played the role of Victor Jerome on General Hospital, has died. He was 93.
Multiple reports indicate that Axelrod died on Nov. 28 of natural causes in Los Angeles.
Axelrod was featured on the ABC soap for 40 episodes between 1987 and 1989. He had previously made guest appearances in Kojak (1977), Hill Street Blues (1984), Dallas (1983), The Judge (1986), Dynasty (1987), Outlaws (1987) and Night Court (1989).
“I had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with him in his last years, as he had no immediate family,” representative Jennifer Garland said in a statement to EW. “We spent much time outdoors, where Jack loved to sketch, read news articles, and recite Shakespearean sonnets.”
Following his stint on General Hospital, Axelrod went on to play Arnie Zimmer on three episodes of Knots Landing between 1989 and 1990. Guest appearances would follow on shows like Murphy Brown (1992), Everybody Loves Raymond (1999), Boys Meets World (1999), Good vs Evil (1999), Jack & Jill...

Josh Brolin has been sitting around being Thanos in the McU since 2012. We really know very little about what was going to go down in Avengers: Infinity War. And apparently, neither did he. But as Brolin has come into the role and embraced it, he's been rather surprised as to how smart Thanos actually is.
While at D23, Brolin talked a bit about his experience finally getting to really play Thanos for more than just a few seconds as an after credit scene. Apparently, it's pretty heavy stuff.
"There's times where it can become psychological, and not necessarily brute force. More interesting for adults now, maybe not for kids."
This is quite an interesting thing to hear. Marvel has been pretty kid friendly, even with it's darker films. And when you look at Thanos, you don't really think super smart. I'm glad to hear that we might be in for...

Mainstream cinema is having a rough summer, qualitatively... but let's honor what mainstream cinema often does best, for this episode of the Halfway Mark Review. Which is to say the broad strokes of Good vs Evil.
Not that mainstream movies always ace this low bar, mind you: Marvel remains mostly terrible at crafting villains, Batman v Superman was so inept that it didn't even understand that you need heroes in superhero movies. X-Men Apocalypse was a crowded repetitive mess on either side of the good/bad divide. But enough about stinkers - happy thoughts: Bests!
Heroes of the Year
• The Avengers (Chris Evans, Cast & FX Team) in Captain America: Civil War
Can't they all just get along? While it'd be silly to say that Civil War doesn't tell you which team to be on (Hint: it's in the title) it does offer up enough sympathetic furrowed brow angst when looking...

An unspoken undercurrent of yesterday's wall-to-wall Justice League coverage (which will continue a bit today) was how unprecedented it was. See, when studios invite the press to the sets of their films, the reports for those visits are held under an embargo for many, many months. Typically, they don't allow journalists to post about what they saw or heard until they're ready to unveil a trailer. It makes for a week-long blitz of promotion for the production. Such was the case when I went to London for the Assassin's Creed set visit. That happened way back in October, yet I wasn't allowed to post a word about it until mid-May, the same week that Fox released the trailer.
In the case of Justice League, journalists were in London just last week (!!!). Literally. This thing just happened, and everyone is already allowed to share their thoughts.
Why would that be? Why...

Update:
According to Devin Faraci, of Birth Movies Death, Boyega is not circling a role in Black Panther. Faraci said he checked with three independence sources, and none could give credence to this rumor.
Original Story:
There's a new rumor sweeping across the web, and it's one that sounds like it makes a fair bit of sense. Yet it's also something that's only backed up by small bits of circumstantial evidence so, until it's confirmed, just tuck this one away in your back pocket.
The cast of Marvel's Black Panther has been getting a lot of attention lately. Whether it be because Michael B. Jordan has signed on, or the fact that some feel Chadwick Boseman stole the show in Captain America: Civil War, the fact that the cast will be comprised almost entirely of black actors, or Marvel honcho Kevin Feige's assertion that Black Panther will have one...

Since its inception, Suicide Squad has screamed of subversiveness. From the premise- which pits a deranged pack of DC villains together on a suicide mission- to some of the casting choices, from the wild stories of Jared Leto letting his freak flag fly to prepare for Joker, and right down to the hiring of David Ayer- who isn't exactly known for making safe Hollywood fare- we've known that Suicide Squad wasn't going to be, in anyway, paint-by-numbers.

Mere days ago it was revealed that Supergirl, the DC television series that began its life on CBS, was jumping to The CW Network. On The CW, it would be part of a slate that includes several other DC shows, which are all produced by the same man: Greg Berlanti (Pictured above). Now comes word that there's already a special crossover event planned for this December!
In a statement during the unveiling of their fall slate, CW president Mark Pedowitz mentioned the addition of Supergirl to its growing roster of programs:
"We have four terrific additions to our schedule next season, and five great anchors at eight o’clock, every night of the week. The CW has become known as the home of the best, most creative series on broadcast television, in a range of genres that appeal to the most balanced audience of any broadcast network,...

Folks, it has begun.
As stated in the original report, Geoff Johns is stepping in as co-runner of DC Films, and that deserves your attention. Read the original report to find out why I think he deserves your forgiveness for past transgressions, and your patience. For now, Vulture has offered two new nuggets.
Johns was asked about the reports that say that he and Jon Berg are the new leaders of DC Films and will help shape the future of the Dceu after Warner Bros. seemingly lost faith in Zack Snyder following the response to Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. While he didn't want to directly address the reports, he did say, "You can connect the dots," which all but confirms that they're true.
But where things get really promising is when he was asked about where he thinks DC needs to go from here. While Vulture didn't publish the entire quote,...

Warner Brothers Consumer Products and Lego brick artist, Nathan Sawaya are joining forces to bring the world’s largest collection of DC Comics-related Lego art.
Patrons of this year’s Sdcc were able to get a behind the scenes look at several of Nathan’s sculptures that will start their world tour in Sydney, Australia later this month. During the DC Comics Meets Lego Art panel, Sawaya and Comic Book Artist, Jim Lee, along with DC fans had a live collaboration on a new, unique, Batmobile design to be showcased during The Art of the Brick: DC Comics exhibit.
Nathan was kind enough to provide a little Q&A and pictures of some of his work for those interested in the upcoming exhibit:
Q: Why do you use LEGOs as your medium?
A: I like to use Lego Bricks because it makes the art very accessible. Using a medium that everyone can relate to,...

When Independence Day exploded onto the big screen in 1996, it became a box office smash hit. Its effective mix of science fiction, ground-breaking special effects, and disaster movie themes turned it into the quintessential summer blockbuster, and paved the way for director Roland Emmerich to wage cinematic war on countless iconic landmarks in subsequent movies, such as Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012 and White House Down. Surprisingly, a sequel has been slow to develop – but the wait is almost over now, as finally, almost two decades later, Independence Day 2 is on its way – with Jessie Usher now cast.
Plot details are, of course, tightly under wraps, but we can surmise from the casting that a high level of continuity can be expected. Jeff Goldblum will apparently reprise his role as codebreaker and day saviour, David Levinson, and Jessie Usher is set to play the son of Will Smith’s Independence Day character,...

Hitting the red carpet for their signature Halloween gig in New York City, former "Jersey Shore" starlets, Nicole Polizzi and Jenni “JWoww” Farley attended the Snooki and JWoww Halloween Event: "Night Of The Living Drag."
Straight out of "Alice in Wonderland" and "Game of Thrones," Jenni and Nicole posed for multiple photos tonight (October 25), each dressed in their own iconic queen costumes. "Snooki" took the look of a sort of ice maiden, clad all in white from head to foot. JWoww stood tall and regal, looking like the ferocious Queen of Hearts.
Huffington Post describes the event, writing, "'Night Of The Living Drag,' presented by beloved party promoter Brandon Voss, MTV and Logo TV, will be a three-story zombie Halloween party like no other slated to take place this Friday, Oct. 25 in New York City."
Both Snooki and JWoww tweeted about, and took pictures of the affair on Instagram.

Here's another action-packed, fun, animated short film called "The Mega Plush" for you to check out. It was directed by Matt Burniston, and it's the first in what could be a continuing series. I hope they make another one, because this thing was awesome. Here's the story description,
Set in the shadows of a gritty underworld, a war is brewing. The Mega Plush, a group of four plush toy vigilantes, are struggling against the uprising of the Soc (Society of Chimps) army. Good vs evil. Bear vs sock monkey. The question is "who has the stuffing to survive?"
I hope you enjoy the show!

Overpaid. Arrogant. Immoral.
As each season goes by, the number of negative adjectives attributed to being a footballer increases. The culture that exists within the beautiful game has come under intense scrutiny in recent years, the London 2012 Olympics giving stark contrast to the behaviour and sportsmanship that exists outside the nation’s favourite sport.
However, there are always two sides to every coin. For every Bradley Wiggins, there’s a Lance Armstrong, for every Mo Farah, there’s a Dwain Chambers and for every Michael Phelps, there’s an entire Australian swimming team.
With last weekend’s Ligue 1 spectacle between Psg and Marseille being billed as Good vs Evil, could the same be said for footballers?
Hidden away under all the scandal and greed that seems to plague every national newspaper’s back page, I’ll be presenting 5 examples that all footballers aren’t inherently evil, but first, let...

Sexy, scary, and insanely addictive, 666 Park Avenue is the perfect hour of television to fill the gap left by Desperate Housewives. Based on the book series by Gabrielle Price, 666 Park Avenue is a mystery infused take on the tried and true 'Good vs Evil' trope, managing to elevate its interpretation to decadently mature levels. It would be hard to imagine 666 making it to television without the success of American Horror Story to illustrate how big the horror niche had become amongst TV viewers, but Park Avenue gives a take that is far more mainstream, and a bit more 'adult' in its narrative, both in terms of maturity and ... you know. Check out a couple of clips for yourself and be sure to tune in to 666 Park Avenue Sunday, September 30, 10:00-11:00 p.m., Et/Pt.

Filming on the new series of Doctor Who has started, and already the reports are trickling in about who's lining up to be in Who. And guess what, two Harry Potter alumni have signed on the dotted line, namely Mark Williams (who played Ronald Weasley's dad) and David Bradley, Aka perma-surly, scraggly mullet head caretaker Argus Filch, a chap who finds it physically impossible to crack a smile.
These two acting giants add to the list of Harry Potter actors in the last couple of years – Toby Jones. Helen McRory. Michael Gambon. Don't forget David Tennant. Give it a couple of years and Daniel Radcliffe will be cast as the 12th Doctor. All this Potter casting got me thinking though – could the popularity of the Harry Potter series have helped the renaissance of Doctor Who back in the early Noughties?
But by and large, these films are a modern marvel.

Misfits, Season 3, Episode 3
Airs Sundays, 10pm GMT on E4
Around the time of season 2 something changed within Misfits. Slowly Simon started becoming much more interesting as a character than Nathan. I can already feel the hate coming my way but let me explain. Nathan was popular because of his looks, charm and comedic delivery, however there wasn’t a huge deal of character development thrown his way for most of the show until it came time for him to leave the show.
Simon started out as the nerdy and shy but nice archetype but as we learned in season 2, he was actually so much more than this. Once he started to grow into his character and develop more of a personality, he was much more likeable. Then upon learning that he was the masked hero from the future that saved everyone, he completely won me over. Suddenly he was so...

The Hoodwinked franchise hasn't really managed to take off like a lot of other animated ventures, and that's something of a shame really, because both films deliver for the target audience. We've gotten to a point in the theatrical release world where, because there have been so many releases that work wonderfully for both children and adults, that all films have to in order to be given a fair share of credit. I think it's gone wrong there really.
Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil, let's face it, isn't especially entertaining for adults. It plays the game to a certain degree, with a few lines that aren't really going to make sense to the youngest audiences, but it's actually geared fully toward younger humor and/or sensibilities, with the main laughs by way of crashing or falling, and the story spelled out rather simplistically.
Why that should necessarily be counted as a negative is somewhat confusing,...

The new film can't capture the novel's spiritual struggles, but it should send readers back to the book
Graham Greene says, in Ways of Escape that Brighton Rock began in 1937 "as a detective story" and "continued as an error of judgment". Actually, it is the first novel in his oeuvre that risks an exploration of Roman Catholic themes, Good vs Evil, Right and Wrong, the existence (or otherwise) of Hell and Satan. Several critics have noted that here it also becomes a working out of a persistent conflict in Greene's nature about the reality of evil as a proof of God's presence in the world.
As well as being an edgy hybrid of thriller and morality tale, the book also offers the seduction of an extraordinarily compelling atmosphere, the timeless appeal of Brighton. Rowan Joffe's new film, updated to the 1960s, is particularly evocative of this quality, at times almost oppressively so.

In the 1980's, Freddy, Jason and Michael slashed their way through the horror scene to rule supreme. However, we feel it is our civic duty at HorrorBid to introduce our Bidites young and old to some lesser known 80's horror fare they may not be familiar with. The easiest way to do this is by taking some of the best known 80's horror cliches and briefly reviewing the movies that fall under these categories...

The Event continues its slight uptick in quality with “Loyalty”, an episode most notable for one of the best edited and choreographed action scenes I’ve ever experienced on a television set.
This week directly follows 1.05, with Sophia heading toward a meet with Thomas, while the government tracks her every move. Meanwhile, Sean and Leila steal the FBI agent’s car and head home to figure out just what Leila’s father knew, and what his connection is to the conspiracy.
In flashbacks we get a little love story, as we’re shown how double agent alien Simon Lee started to fall in love, settle down, and then have it ripped away by Thomas, who in no uncertain terms says either Simon moves on, or the girl dies. Sure, we've been talking about it all day. But the new trailer for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" unfolds on such an epic scale, that it's worth talking about some more. This is, of course, the final part of the boy wizard series. And as you might expect, (spoiler alert?) it ends with a major showdown between Harry and his lifelong nemesis, the dark wizard Voldemort.
Of course, dramatic showdowns are a Hollywood staple. Whether enemies are crossing swords, guns, lightsabers or simply words, a good duel is often all that stands between a hero and whatever he's questing for. After the jump, find five of our very favorite film showdowns.

We have reached the final instalment of the Harry Potter series, and with Voldemort's power growing stronger, Ron and Hermione falling in love and the mystery surrounding cantankerous Snape being finally resolved, it looks like it really will be 'The Motion Picture Event of a Generation', as it so hailed. With quite so many storylines to tie up, so many love triangles to untangle and the ongoing battle of Good Vs Evil to win, the Deathly Hallows has been split into two parts - one released November 19th 2010 and part two being released July 15th 2011. With an all star cast including Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith and Julie Walters - as well as our beloved trio Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson - the trailer promises us an action packed finale to the must loved franchise.

Now that all the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time promo is done and dusted, Disney / Jerry Bruckheimer films are concentrating all their energies on The Sorcerer’s Apprentice which is released 13th August.
The movie stars Nicholas Cage, Jay Baruchel and Alfred Molina and is based around part of the animated classic, Fantasia. The movie sees Nicolas Cage reunite with his National Treasure director, Jon Turteltaub and from what we’ve seen of the movie so far, we’re in for a treat.
This new featurette is called Good vs Evil and pretty much does what it says on the tin.
Anyone out there looking forward to this movie? Tell us in the comments below.

Walt Disney Pictures has a brand new behind-the-scenes featurette for upcoming fantasy action flick The Sorcerer’s Apprentice which is called “Good vs Evil” and show us plenty of new footage and interviews with actors and director.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, adaptation of the classic story from “Fantasia,” stars Nicolas Cage, Monica Bellucci, Jay Baruchel, Alfred Molina, Teresa Palmer and Toby Kebbell.
Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar can’t do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé.
