Excuse the twisting of a beloved comedian’s signature tune, but this new film’s theme could be “Hooray for Captain Fawcett, the Bolivian explorer!”. That’s Captain Percy Fawcett, to be specific. He’s the newest movie jungle adventurer, in the vein of Jungle Jim and Indiana Jones, except he was a real person. And he was the subject of a recent best-selling book. Now his exploits from nearly one hundred years ago have finally made it to the big screen. So is his quest to find The Lost City Of Z worthy of a far less treacherous trek to the local multiplex?
In 1906 Percy Fawcett (Charlie Hunnam) was a respected member of the British Royal Artillery, especially after shooting a stag during a big hunting competition. He’s got a beautiful supportive wife Nina (Sienna Miller) and an adorable tot named Jack. Unfortunately his military career has stalled,...

This spring, the first trailer for “USS Indianapolis: Men Of Courage” arrived promising that it would be “coming soon.” Well, here we are a few months later, and the movie is still without a U.S. distributor, or any kind of buzz really — but it has opened in the Philippines (which is appropriate, given the […]

The remastered BioShock, BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite are coming in a new collection. Here's the announcement trailer...
Update: Well, this is one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming. Leaked months ago by the Taiwanese ratings board and then again just a few days ago, BioShock: The Collection has finally been given its official unveiling by 2K. As you might have guessed, it'll bring together all three BioShock games - that's BioShock, BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite, fact fans - along with all the bits of Dlc that came with them, such as Infinite's Burial At Sea.
Besides all that, there'll be a 'virtual museum' of ideas and concepts that didn't make it into the finished games, as well as a new video about the making of the series featuring creator Ken Levine. You can see the announcement trailer for the collection below. Even all these years later, the...

Wide Open Sky.
Wide Open Sky was the winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at last year's Sydney Film Festival.
Director Lisa Nicol's documentary tells the story of Moorambilla Voices, an outback children's choir assembled every year by teacher Michelle Leonard.
"Michelle had children at the same school as me, and I heard about her choir and her doing incredible things with these kids who have no music education", said Nicol (whose previous documentary, A Night At Sea, was about musician Louis Tillett).
"It was so ambitious, and the more I heard about it the more intrigued I was"..
Nicol got the ABC onboard by filming a twelve-minute sizzle reel at one of Leonard's music camps..
For the shoot itself, the filmmaker and regular collaborators Anna Craney (editor/producer) and Carolyn Constantine (Dop) plus a sound recordist travelled around the remote regions of western Nsw.
"We followed Michelle throughout the year.

There’s nothing that makes a horror fan wetter than the words “practical effects” (yup, coming out guns blazing in this review). In a time of dull, lifeless Adr oversaturation, the art of blowing up a prosthetic heads full of gooey physical liquids has become a thing of the past. But Amalgamated Dynamics Inc., the team behind such creature films as Starship Troopers, Tremors and numerous Alien entries, are just a few of the modern-day heroes who believe monster movies should rely on extensive practical make-up/animatronics – and they want to do things their way. That’s why they took to Kickstarter with an entirely practical homage to The Thing called Harbinger Down, smashing past its $350K goal in the name of all that’s squishy, horrific, and disgusting.
Harbinger Down is the brainchild of veteran effects wizard Alec Gillis, who served as writer and director on this 80s-themed passion project.

For those of you who don’t have a clue about what the heck I’m talking about, the Steam Summer Sale is the biggest event for anyone owning a computer.
Basically, Steam (a distribution platform by Valve that allows you to buy and play PC games) throws a summer sale every year. Usually I don’t talk about sales, but this isn’t just any sale. This is the sale for video games. Most games, even the most recent ones, get their prices slashed anywhere from 60-90%. And trust me when I say there are a lot of games and deals to be found.
But with so much goodness as far as the eye can see, sometimes the Steam Summer Sale can feel overwhelming. It’s easy to get lost in all of the discounts and wind up blowing your wallet on games you won’t play,...

Zac Efron and his longtime friend Michelle Rodriguez seemed to have taken their relationship to a new level while vacationing in Italy and Sardinia over the last couple of weeks.
Zac Efron & Michelle Rodriguez Kiss At Sea
While aboard a fishing boat with mutual friend, Italian businessman Gianluca Vacchi, 26-year-old Efron was pictured stealing a kiss from Rodriguez, 35. On the boat, the two packed on the Pda with Efron draping his arms around the Fast & Furious star, kissing her head and wrapping her in a towel.
For the day out at sea, Rodriquez sported a black and white striped bikini, putting her now famous abs on display. Efron, looking fit himself, donned green swim shorts and black wayfarer sunglasses.
When they weren't wrapped up in each others' arms, the actors had some fun doing flips into the sea. At one point, daredevil Rodriguez climbed up the boat’s mast for...

I met David Henry Gerson in Paris last week after seeing his film there at Champs Elysee Film Festival. "Automatic At Sea" competed for finishing funds in the Us In Progress section at the Fest. (Good film, didn't win.)
Us in Progress, Paris
David starred in and produced this film which was directed and written by Matthew Lessner.
In 2011 they were both in Park City in January. Matthew's first feature "The Woods" was in Sundance, New Frontiers section and was distributed in U.S. by Film Movement. It was shortlisted for Independent Spirit and Gotham Awards. The San Francisco Film Society has awarded him two grants for his upcoming feature "Terror Tuesday".
David's film showed then in Slamdance. A documentary, " Ultra Violet for Sixteen Minutes" showed a Warhol period screen test of his future star Ultra Violet and included an interview. She died recently and in the film discussed her art and connection to Mormonism.
David liked Matthew's film then and describes it as summing up his generation. 'The Obama-era-over-socially-networked generation. The generation is overwhelmed by options. The children of the '90's bear a darkness under the surface. The FaceBook feed, scrolling not landing, the big issues are not dealt with.'
So they worked together in "Automatic At Sea". The film is contemplative, dreamlike, even poetic. It has three characters in a beach house, David and two young women. There is no story and it is a study of characters and their interaction. David says of his character there, 'he can do anything but therefore does nothing'. I told David of my reactions to the film and we began discussing his views on acting which I found very interesting.
He comes from the Washington DC area and was raised there. He began acting very young and even had a stage at his family home. He remembered Henry Winkler's advice to actors. 'Before acting, get an education.'
In New York he studied Method acting at the Drama Academy. In La he studied with Sandra Secat. 'Acting is deep and personal to me, using dreams and the subconscious. It is complicated and powerful, as the actor is powerless. I want to do roles I believe in and that create opportunities.'
He goes on, 'Film has responsibility. It occupies minds for a few hours and therefore film needs to inspire. Actors in film need to create poetic art, to give voice to emotional issues, to encourage action. This becomes the question for a film character overwhelmed by responsibility.'
In Sundance '14 he had a short, 13 minutes, the L.A .based " Chapel Perilous ”. David was lead actor and producer. It won an Audience Award and was by the same team that did the feature. It is about war and the earth's destruction. Manly, threatening and aloof in his role in “Automatic at Sear", in life he is also smart (a graduate of Colombia University with a bachelor's degree in English Literature and currently attending the American Film Institute) and engaged.
His future? David says, 'I want to keep acting and always be looking at other options'.

Manly, threatening and aloof in his role, in life he is also smart (a graduate of Colombia University with a bachelor's degree in English Literature and currently attending the American Film Institute) and engaged.

Matthew's previous feature "The Woods", distributed by Film Movement, premiered in the New Frontier Program at the Sundance Film Festival in 2011 and was shortlisted for Independent Spirit and Gotham Awards. The San Francisco Film Society has awarded him two grants for his upcoming feature "Terror Tuesday". Producer David Henry Gerson also starred and to my eye and in my opinion is one of the few mature (adult vs. boy-type) male leads in this new generation of actors. Manly, threatening and aloof in his role, in life he is also smart (a graduate of Colombia University with a bachelor's degree in English Literature and currently attending the American Film Institute) and engaged.

Benjamin Dickinson’s dark sci-fi comedy took the top prize at the Us In Progress independent showcase in Paris on Wednesday (11).
The event, hosted by the Champs-Elysées Film Festival, aims to connect upcoming films from the Us independent scene with distributors and sales agents in Europe.
It is Dickinson’s second feature film after his debut First Winter, about a group of Brooklynite yoga students attending a retreat in an old house in upstate New York, which premiered in Tribeca.
In Creative Control, Dickinson has set the tale in the heart of Brooklyn’s creative community. The director stars as an ambitious young ad executive working on a campaign for a new generation of augmented reality glasses.
He loses his own hold on reality after he creates a life-like avatar of his fashion photographer best-friend’s girlfriend, played by up and coming actress Alexia Rasmussen (pictured). The youthful ensemble cast also features Nora Zehetner and Dan Gill.

My review for Burial At Sea – Episode 1, while positive, lamented the fact that Irrational Games chose to expound upon the idea of parallel universes for their Dlc, a decision that I now understand and, surprisingly, support after playing the second episode. One reason for this is that the latest chapter is simply better than the first in that it offers a stronger story, enhanced gameplay and even manages to tie the series as a whole together. Even though some of the individual pieces don’t come together perfectly, BioShock Infinite: Burial At Sea – Episode 2 wraps up the series in a way that fans need to experience.
The story picks up directly after Episode 1′s ending, with Sally falling into Atlas’ hands and Elizabeth desperate to get her back. To ensure Sally’s safety, Elizabeth agrees to return the department store prison that houses Atlas and his men back to Rapture...

[Warning: While I'll try to steer clear of revealing the ending and major plot points, I won't shy away from talking about the game. So for those of you who wish to go into Episode 2 without a clue (or complete Episode 1, since this would spoil some of it), I'd recommend steering clear of this review for now.]
With the shocking and sudden announcement of Irrational Games closing for good, I imagine there’s a lot of expectations riding on Bioshock Infinite: Burial At Sea – Episode 2. Not only is this going to be the last (?) Bioshock game made, it is going to be the last game made by Irrational Games. And with the legacy of both a fantastic series and a landmark developer, it would be greatly disappointing if it didn’t go out with a bang.
I admit, I had my doubts about this one. Not that it wouldn’t be good; I had confidence there. But rather, I wasn’t sure just how great of a game it might be.
For starters, I wasn’t sure if Elizabeth would be a dynamic, playable character. Now, before anyone misinterprets what I said, I’m not saying Elizabeth isn’t a well written character or she wouldn’t...

The story of Elizabeth, Booker and the rest of the BioShock Infinite cast concludes today with the release of BioShock Infinite: Burial At Sea – Episode Two. To celebrate, 2K Games has released a new trailer for the storyline Dlc that gives us a glimpse at what lies ahead.
Taking place directly following the events of the first Burial At Sea episode, this outing places gamers into Elizabeth’s shoes for the first time. Without Booker’s combat expertise to back her up, Elizabeth must rely on stealth and cunning in order to navigate through Rapture and find Sally, the Little Sister she is desperately looking for. Along the way, she will find herself having to deal with the likes of Atlas and Andrew Ryan in order to finish her mission.
BioShock Infinite: Burial At Sea – Episode Two is the third and final piece of content that will be released for the title.

Usually, one can clump bad films into two categories. The first are those with stories and characters so dull and lifeless that audience interest wanes instantly. The second are incomprehensibly silly tales that can only work if one embraces their kitschy or campy qualities. Winter’s Tale, the howlingly silly and perplexing debut feature of Oscar-winning scribe Akiva Goldsman, holds the rare distinction of being a third kind of awful. It blends these two aforementioned tomes of terrible cinema together into something almost unwatchable.
Winter’s Tale is adapted from Mark Helprin’s literary fantasy, which runs close to 700 pages and was a massive hit in the mid-1980s. Years ago, Martin Scorsese was going to direct a version of Helprin’s novel but even he found it unreleasable. Clearly, this project needed a director who could capture Helprin’s magical realism in an enchanting way. Instead, it comes from...

The second episode for Burial At Sea for Bioshock: Infinite will release on March 25th, and we have your latest trailer!
This will be the last Burial At Sea episode for Bioshock, but it has been promised to be much longer than the first Dlc. This episode, much like the first, will bring back characters from both the first two titles and Infinite, but put them in a new enviroment. Due to this we get to see them in a whole new light, and find out more information about the storyline of the games. Speaking from the trailer, there seems to be a lot to deal with Infinite in this episode as it "takes a character and flips him on his ear." This could be interesting!

Director: Volker Schlondorff
Writers: Volker Schlondorff, Cyril Gely
Producers: Film Oblige’s Marc de Bayser and Frank de Bayser
U.S. Distributor: Rights Available
Cast: Andre Dussollier, Niels Arestrup, Robert Stadlober
The German auteur has another film ready to premiere this year, which we hope gets more attention than Schlondorff’s 2011 film, Calm At Sea, which had a rather subdued festival run and no Us distribution. Two wizened stars of French cinema headline his latest, a period piece reimagining the near bombing of Paris by Hitler. War torn Germany and World War II era Europe are some of Schlondorff’s favorite subjects, but we’re hoping this sees some traction in the coming year.
Gist: During the night of August 24th to 25th, 1944, the future of Paris is in the hands of General von Choltitz, the governor of Grand Paris, who is preparing, on Hitler’s orders, to blow up the capital.

Irrational Games has announced today that the second part of BioShock Infinite: Burial At Sea now has a release date. The Dlc will be arriving on March 25th for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC and can be purchased for $14.99 or as part of the season pass for $19.99.
Though we don’t know too much about what the story holds just yet, a recently released trailer did give away a few spoiler-ish hints as to which familiar faces might be showing up. The first trailer for BioShock Infinite: Burial At Sea Episode 2 has been posted to Irrational Games’ Official YouTube account and it wastes little time before throwing a few surprises at viewers. Two major characters are making their return and if you don’t want to be spoiled on them or if you haven’t played through the first chapter yet, I suggest you avert your eyes.
Spoiler Warning from here on out.
As you can see from the trailer, not only is BioShock‘s sinister Frank Fontaine making an appearance, but Booker DeWitt is inexplicably returning, despite last being seen getting a Big Daddy drill to the chest. We already knew that Burial At Sea Episode 2 will place gamers into the shoes of Elizabeth, but it appears that the team at Irrational still has some surprises up their sleeves.

When Irrational conceived BioShock Infinite, the studio took the brave step of imagining a world that is the complete opposite of the one seen in the previous two games. Where the Rapture of BioShock and its sequel was dark and hidden away in murky depths, Columbia is bathed in light and high up in the sky. Where Rapture was claustrophobic and linear, Columbia was relatively open, with areas connected by a rail system that provided a greater illusion of freedom.
It's arguable that BioShock Infinite offered a little more variety in its combat, too, with that rail network offering a greater range of strategies - you could use those sky rails to whisk yourself up onto high buildings,...

2K Games has announced that the first episode of BioShock Infinite: Burial At Sea will be available on November 12th. The Dlc will carry a price tag of $14.99 and will launch simultaneously on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
In Burial At Sea, you will return to the world of Rapture that was brought so vividly to life in the first two BioShock games. Bearing a strong resemblance to classic “film-noir” tales, protagonist Booker DeWitt will explore the undersea dystopia on the eve of its downfall, which takes place one year before the original BioShock began. Further plot details have not been disclosed, but like all noir films, it will probably be a good, hard-boiled mystery.
In the Dlc you can expect to run into not only your companion from BioShock Infinite, Elizabeth, but some “old friends” from previous games as well. One would expect some of these friends to include the likes of Andrew Ryan,...

Given how perennially beloved they are, it's amazing that The Moomins have never starred in an original feature film before. There have been TV series - most notably the '80s Polish cut-out animation version and the '90s Japanese anime - theme parks and merchandise, but apart from films compiled from TV versions (like 2010's 3-D Moomins And The Comet Chase), the big screen has so far eluded Tove Jansson's famous Finn family. That's about to change, however, with the news that pre-sales are happening right now at Toronto on the Finnish/French co-production Moomins.Jansson first created the Moomins in 1945. Moomintroll, Moominmama, Moominpappa, The Snork Maiden, hobo Snufkin, the bossy Hemulens, the tomboyish Little My and various hangers-on and antagonists had adventures across nine novels between their inception and 1970. There were also newspaper comic strips and picture books. The stories got increasingly dark and strange - Moominpappa...

We only have a few months left to wait until Paul Greengrass’ new fact-based drama, Captain Phillips, docks in our cinemas. To remind us (and those across the pond) of that fact, Columbia Pictures has released two new posters. Captain Phillips follows the eponymous captain dealing with and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the Us-flagged Mv Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.Phillips and some of his crew were taken hostage and faced real peril before Us Naval Special Forces rescued them. Following his ordeal, Phillips became something of a hero for his bravery under challenging circumstances, landing book deals and TV appearances. Now one of those books, A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, And Dangerous Days At Sea, which Phillips penned with Stephen Tally, has become the basis for the new, Tom Hanks-starring film. Billy Ray cranked...

Andy Cohen calls the new Bravo reality series “Downton Abbey on a private yacht.” After tonight’s premiere, I’m calling it “Saved by the Bell, the Summer Edition: Lost at Sea.” (Imagine a very special episode in which one of the Bayside crew finds a baggie of coke on the volleyball court at Malibu Sands and then hands it over to Stacy Carosi. Well, anyone except Jessie Spano, because we all know she’d be so excited that she’d keep it.) But there’s plenty of time to get all royal about it. For now, I’m hooked,...

As someone who can be found with earphones stuck into the side of his head on a near constant basis, it is fair to say that I, like many of you, love my music. I firmly believe that one of the biggest thrills a music fan can achieve is the sense of wonderment that comes after you discover or are introduced to an artist that you may have overlooked or, perhaps, had never even heard of.
I am aware that many people that read this post will come from a multitude of different countries, so I am using this as a forum to (hopefully) introduce you, the dear reader, to some acts from my homeland. I will be listing my favourite song by each artist, while also supplying a video to give you an idea of their style.
I am also trying to avoid some of the more obvious, successful...

The conditions on the Carnival cruise ship Triumph were ‘horrible, just horrible,’ passengers said after docking on land on Feb. 14.
Over 4,200 passengers were finally freed from the Carnival cruise ship Triumph on Friday Feb. 14, after enduring unsanitary conditions, food shortages and having to camp out on deck during five days at sea after the ship lost power on Feb. 10.
“It was horrible, just horrible” Maria Hernandez, 28, of Angleton, Texas told Fox News on Feb. 15.
“It just feels so good to be on land again and to feel like I have options,” Tracey Farmer said. “I’m just ready to see my family.”

Trash cans and sinks of human waste, feces-smeared walls and mushy floors inside the cruise ships are some of the conditions these passengers had to endure during their unfortunate stay.

After The Plane Crash and Terror At Sea: The Sinking Of The Concorida, the UK’s Dragonfly Film and Television will turn its forensic spotlight on another disaster with Sandy: Anatomy Of A Superstorm. The fast-turnaround documentary commission comes from BBC Two with an air date of November 18 in the UK. Using science-based analysis, the program will attempt to decipher how Hurricane Sandy happened while examining the consequences on the infrastructure of New York City. Dragonfly is part of Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine Group. Exec producers on the project are Dragonfly’s recently appointed managing director Simon Dickson and Tamara Abood. Something of a specialist in the arena, the BBC commissioned a quick-turnaround doc on another devastating event this summer, the Aurora, Colo, movie theater shootings.

Tom Holland is a busy man. The Fright Night director not only just opened his own horror memorabilia site, Twisted Curios, but is directing the Stephen King adaptation The Ten O’Clock People as well. And now, he has lassoed Alice Cooper and company to command the Ship Of Fear: A Horror Cruise, an event to mark on your calendar for next Halloween.
The Ship Of Fear will be a cruise boat adventure with some of the greatest directors and actors from the horror genre onboard (featuring notables from The Lost Boys, Gremlins, Friday The 13th, Pet Sematary, and more), along with rock stars, illusionists, performance artists, and presumably all sorts of horror gags for its five nights of fun in the ocean. If you order early, a position on the scary schooner will only cost you $729. To check out ticketing, go here.

Chicago – Critics like to complain that some Hollywood blockbusters skew the balance from character to special effects. With “Battleship,” it’s almost as if director Peter Berg decided, after a brief bit of character set-up, that he would just give up entirely on the human element of his movie. It’s CGI overload, an orgy of special effects designed to rattle your brain like a hyperactive video game.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
While there’s something nearly admirable about the sheer audacity of the filmmaking here (and the thing looks and sounds great on Blu-ray), it’s numbing in its presentation. To say it’s impossible to care about what happens is an understatement. Half the time, it’s impossible even to know what Is happening. If one considers how much of this movie was created by a computer, it should probably qualify for Best Animated Film.
And yet there’s no pretension here.

Jigsaw wants to play a game with you. This time though, the game involves a little R&R, swimming, great food, and a cruise with members of the Saw cast?! Yes it's happening, and for the price of around $700 on average you and your friends could be swimming, participating in mini golf tournaments, and enjoying a private screening of all the Saw movies with random no names from the original all the way to the 3D installment. Sounds crazy to most (awesome to a few I'm sure) but tickets are already selling out for the first voyage setting sail in August. For more details and to book your Saw cruise, go to this page and you'll find all you need.

Because James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s Saw franchise has created its own de facto cult following through sheer repetition, and there are a bunch of big-ass boats out there you can rent, Twisted Pictures and Carnival Cruises have created the Saw At Sea cruise, in which you can relive all the terror of being trapped in confined quarters without the possibility of escape, your entire existence winnowed down to a narrow set of choices, and the minutes crawling by as you’re surrounded by the stench of death, all while also watching the Saw movies. The five-night voyage departs ...

Kinoteka Polish Film Festival, London, Belfast & Edinburgh
The presence of Juliette Binoche gets this festival off to a high-profile start – she plays a French journalist studying teenage prostitution in Elles. And the prestige continues with Agnieszka Holland's Oscar-nominated In Darkness, a Schindler's List-like wartime drama. More interesting though are Suicide Room, an angsty teen movie partly set in a virtual world, and Courage, mixing biblical themes with modern social commentary. This being the festival's 10th anniversary, there are also classic Polish films selected by 10 top film-makers, including Mike Leigh, Andrzej Wajda and Nicolas Roeg, plus – in London – a special concert with master composer Krzysztof Penderecki and Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood.
Various venues, Thu to 22 Mar
Bev Springs 2012, London
Sadly there weren't sufficient funds to mount a full-blown Bird's Eye View festival this year, but the event won't be kept down. So, to mark International Women's Day, there's an evening of international shorts,...
