White House Alters State Dinner Plans Due To World Crises; The B-52s Will No Longer Perform — Update
Update: First Lady Jill Biden said that The B-52s will no longer perform at the White House State Dinner on Wednesday, and that guests instead will listen to music from the “President’s Own” United States Marine Band and the Army and Air Force Strolling Strings.
The change — from the relentlessly upbeat B-52s to the more sedate instrumental music — was made given the multiple crises in the world, Biden said.
“While we had initially planned for legendary B-52s to perform their iconic dance and party music, we are now in a time when so many are facing sorrow and pain, so we made a few adjustments to the entertainment portion of the evening,” Jill Biden said.
The dinner will be for Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and partner Jodie Haydon. Biden said that The B-52s will still attend the event.

On Thursday (23 March), the band posted a video on Instagram informing fans that they are back for a special anniversary tour.

Charlie Simpson, recent winner of The Masked Singer, has revealed that he chose his rhino costume on the show as a nod to his wife’s childhood and family.
The former Busted frontman won ITV’s secret singing competition on Saturday evening, after he performed three songs including Lewis Capaldi’s “Before You Go”.
Now, the 37-year-old has explained the sentimental reason why he decided to opt for a rhino costume.
“My wife grew up in Kenya so I spend a lot of time in Kenya, and we spend a lot of time on safari,” said Simpson. “I actually walked with rhinos, and some of the rhinos, there’s only a handful of them left.”
He continued: “They’re really endangered and they have to be guarded by military personnel now, so the poachers don’t get them and I actually got to go and walk around with them, with these guards,...

Busted’s Charlie Simpson has been crowned the winner of The Masked Singer.
The singer, 37, who rose to fame with the pop punk band which produced hits including Year 3000 and Crashed The Wedding, performed in disguise as Rhino throughout the ITV series.
Simpson performed three times across Saturday’s finale show and beat Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson, who was disguised as Phoenix, and All Saints star Natalie Appleton, who was hiding behind the Fawn mask.
The Busted star admitted he did not expect to win the show and just tried to “remember the lyrics and have fun”.
Asked how he found the experience, he said: “I was terrified the entire time because the thing I was scared most of was remembering lyrics. I often forget lyrics to my own songs.”

Sarah Harding had hoped to be able to attend her Gala dinner before she died, Girls Aloud bandmate Cheryl Tweedy has revealed.
Harding died of breast cancer in September last year at the age of 39, but revealed her final wish while staying with Tweedy weeks before her death. She was apparently keen to be able to thank those who had helped her during her illness.
"I asked her over and over again how we could help. Was there anything she truly wanted or needed?” wrote Tweedy in an article for Vogue.
“Finally she said to me: ‘I would love you to create an evening, a gala of some kind for me. If I am here and can attend I will be able to thank those who have helped me through all of this, and pay that forward in a way that will help others when I’m gone.’”

The first time the B-52s performed onstage together after Covid lockdowns — playing “Love Shack” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! — might have been nerve-racking for any other band. They had to shave a minute out of the song to accommodate the tight TV spot. Then they had to wait in a trailer until they were called onstage —”We didn’t even get to meet him,” the perennially redheaded Kate Pierson says of Kimmel — and then it was just a matter of tapping immediately into their inborn party spirit. The performance was typically spot-on,...

With a June 1 date at Philadelphia’s Sugar House Casino, The B-52s – the toast of Athens, Ga and avatars of the dance-punk movement – officially kicked off its 40th anniversary summer tour. That The Bs founding brain trust of Kate Pierson, Fred Schneider and Cindy Wilson was, and is, still intact, energetically performing their fun, frantic classics, drove the Philly audience to zealously enthusiastic and participatory action.
Forty years after they dropped their first single – “Rock Lobster,” recorded for Db Records – Schneider’s fiercely playful call to action to go “Down, down… Let’s rock” still inspired a sold-out roomful of fans to snorkel and crumble in place.
“We all still laugh at the same things and have a sense of each other — and the absurd — that influences each other,” said Schneider just before the Sugar House show. “I would never dream of doing it this long if I didn...

In the segment, Wilson takes on the role of John and Tennant does Dee, with panellist Nicole Scherzinger remarking: "David, you look pretty as a girl..."

"You said you weren't going to be bitchy and you're being bitchy," he reportedly said. "You've probably got Pmt or something, you were extremely rude. If you choose Paloma she will probably fall asleep while you sing."
Speaking to Digital Spy at the Attitude Awards tonight (October 14), Boy George insisted that he was not responsible for Paloma's outburst.
"First of all, nobody makes anyone cry, crying is a personal choice," he insisted. "And Paloma's gorgeous, I worship and adore her. And we had a right laugh about it afterwards.

Leave it to Boy George to joke about the continuing furore over Sir Tom Jones's departure from The Voice UK.
Jones - who recently told Digital Spy that he couldn't deal with the show's "bullshit" - hit out at producers when he was dropped from the programme earlier this year.
His replacement Boy George had a bit of a laugh about the controversy while speaking to Digital Spy tonight at the Attitude Awards.
"I haven't replaced Tom Jones, I've replaced Rita [Ora]," he initially teased.
The Culture Club singer said more seriously: "I have nothing but respect for Tom. He's major. He's ground control to major. I'm a massive fan, I've always been a massive fan since I was a little kid.
"Even the other night I was watching him on Jools Holland - he was incredible. One can only dream of having a career like Tom Jones. That's what I want to focus on.

The Voice UK might not be back until the New Year, but it's all kicking off already. The spinning chairs have been wiped down with a damp dishcloth, the two new coaches have been practising their button-pressing techniques and the singers are looking in the mirror, rehearsing that bit where they tell us how much this means to them. So what can you expect when The Voice UK returns for its fifth series?
When is The Voice UK back?
Nothing is confirmed yet, but we can make a very educated guess. For the past couple of years the show has launched at the beginning of January and based on that, it seems like we could be good to go on Saturday, January 9. It remains to be seen if we're right, but if we were going to put money on any date, it would be that one.
So it's not being axed then?...

The X Factor is apparently shaking things up once again with plans to introduce guest fifth judges during the live shows. Dolly Parton and Rod Stewart's names have already been thrown out there, and - of course - this gives Louis Walsh his chance to return.
In the face of dipped ratings, Simon Cowell needs to find a sensational hired gun each week. These are the stars who'd make the show utterly unmissable (and no, Sinitta, you can't have a go).

What better way to get back at The Voice UK than to jump ship to The X Factor? Sir Tom would presumably love to waggle two fingers at the BBC, who earlier this week he declared can "go f*ck themselves". Sir Tom Jones has continued his attack on The Voice UK, claiming that he was told to turn his chair more and was given lines to say.
The singer - who recently told Digital Spy that he couldn't deal with the show's "bullshit" - hit out at producers when he was dropped from the programme earlier this year.
He has now told Metro that other BBC bosses called to commiserate when he was axed.
"Producers from other sections of the BBC called and said, 'I hope Tom doesn't think this is the BBC in general - it's just those schmucks running that show'," he said.
Jones went on to say that Endemol boss John de Mol, who created the show, had sent a representative to give him "advice".

Tom Jones has said that the BBC "can go f**k themselves" after axing him from The Voice UK.

Paloma Faith believes Sir Tom Jones won't be losing "too much sleep" over his dramatic exit from The Voice UK.
The Welsh legend was replaced by Boy George in the BBC One singing competition in August, but he later revealed he had "no idea" that he would not be returning.
Paloma - who takes over Rita Ora's spot in the coaches lineup - said that she had a chat with Sir Tom following his departure.
"I spoke to him about it, and he was very upset about the way they handled his exit," she told The Mirror.
"That was sad for him, but I'm sure Tom Jones has got a lot of other things he can be doing, because he is a national treasure and a legend. I don't think he will lose too much sleep over it."
Paloma also explained what she hopes to bring to the show as a mentor.

Olly Murs has had his say on The Voice UK's decision to axe Sir Tom Jones from its forthcoming series.
The X Factor host said that show bosses "didn't do it the right way", adding that the way Jones has been treated isn't "very nice".
Jones revealed on Friday (August 14) that he was only informed one day before the new-look Voice panel was revealed by the BBC that he would not be coming back.
The Welsh music legend claimed he'd been dropped with "no consultation or conversation of any kind", and chided BBC executives for "sub-standard behaviour".
Murs told The Sun: "I was shocked, and I do feel that the way that Tom has been treated wasn't very nice. Obviously he is really upset about it.
"They clearly didn't do it the right way which is a shame, because he's a really lovely guy and an iconic artist who I've always admired.

While we will mourn the departure of Tom Jones from the new Voice UK line-up, there's no denying we are extremely excited to see what Boy George will have to offer the BBC One talent show.
