Jack Huston says 'no one's safe' on 'Boardwalk Empire' [Video]

12 hours ago | Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news »

In the first season of “Boardwalk Empire,” Jack Huston gave a memorable guest performance as Richard Harrow, a troubled, lonely war veteran who has to wear a mask to cover his disfigured face. Talking to Gold Derby, Huston revealed, “there’s never really been a character like him on television ... I found real heart within him ... initially its crazy when you first saw that mask, and that face. It was disconcerting to say the least. So it was a hell of a character for them to decide on.” Huston was promoted to the regular cast for the second season and admits getting that news, “was one of the nicest phone calls I ever got. I was so happy ... the chance to get to play more of him and discover more of Richard Harrow is a dream ... from three episodes, now we’re in season three. It’s great.” And being part of the regular cast, »

Elizabeth Olsen paired a Valentino gown with a black bag from The Row, a line designed by her sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, for last night's Grand Chefs Dinner held at NYC's Gotham Hall. The bash, organized by the Relais & Châteaux hotel chain, had a "Springtime in New York" theme and brought together many of the world's leading chefs like Gary Danko and Daniel Boulud. Funds were raised to benefit Meals on Wheels. Elizabeth was joined by other starlets like the model Coco Rocha and actress Greta Gerwig, who starred in the recent release Damsels in Distress. The dinner brought Elizabeth a break from working on Kill Your Darlings with Daniel Radcliffe and Jack Huston. The trio portray real-life poets caught up in a 1940s murder mystery in a true story. Both the Directors' Fortnight (May 17 through 27) and Critics' Week (May 17 through 25) have presented the posters for their 2012 editions — here and here, respectively. Neither is quite as classy as the poster for the Cannes Film Festival itself (May 16 through 27), but each captures the spirit of its strand pretty well.

In the works. Ingmar Bergman left behind a VHS collection of more than 1500 titles, including works by the likes of Tarkovsky, Buñuel and Truffaut but also more popular fare such as The Blues Brothers, Jurassic Park and Ghostbusters. As Jorn Rossing Jensen reports at Cineuropa, film critics Hynek Pallas and Jane Magnusson and journalist Fatima Varhos "are currently finishing Bergman's Video, a 90-minute documentary (for theatrical) and a 6x60-minute television series which will offer 'a new insight into the genius of Bergman and portraits of great filmmakers of today.' 29 March 2012 12:30 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Last week, we took a look at the relative dearth of leading men in Hollywood: why Tom Cruise, Will Smith, et al. remain at the top of the tree and why so few serious competitors have emerged since. But one of the most exciting things about our job is getting to watch the new names that emerge, breakouts who have the potential to join the A-listers, or at the very least, deliver a host of hugely exciting performances for decades to come.

So we've decided to kick off our On The Rise selection for 2012 by looking at some of the actors who we're tipping for big things in the next few years. Last time we made these kinds of picks and predictions we did pretty well, listing the likes of Joel Edgerton, Edgar Ramirez, Jason Sudeikis, Adam Scott, Jake Johnson and David Oyelowo who have all gone on to become much-sought-after names, »

Here is our first look at Daniel Radcliffe as Allen Ginsberg, getting cosy with Chronicle star Dane DeHaan.

The Harry Potter and Woman In Black actor will be playing the bespectacled and brilliant poet in next year’s Kill Your Darlings. Written and directed by John Krokidas (in his feature film debut), the movie concerns the murder of David Kammerer and the subsequent effect on the New York Beat Generation. It stars Radcliffe as Ginsberg, Dane DeHaan as Lucien Carr, Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene) as Edie Parker, Jack Huston (Twilight: Eclipse) as Parker’s husband Jack Kerouac, Ben Foster (Rampert) as William Burroughs and Michael C. Hall (Dexter) as the murdered Kammerer.

It’s a well documented case, but we shall avoid any details which may count as spoilers to what should be a fascinating modern/historical drama. The Beat Generation provided some of the most pivotal and »

19 March 2012 3:36 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

So are books by the Beats poised to become the next tween lit pick of choice? Okay, so maybe it won't reach "The Hunger Games" or "Twilight" levels of popularity, but we're experiencing a bit of moment here with tweenage fave KStew leading Walter Salles' upcoming "On The Road" and now, Harry Potter himself Daniel Radcliffe stepping into the shoes of Allen Ginsberg. Howl, indeed.

The first look at "Kill Your Darlings" has emerged over at EW and featuring lots of tweed, chunky glasses, a Dad sweater and a scarf, you could probably find a copy of this guy walking down a street in Brooklyn right now. #Hipsterfashionforever. John Krokidas is set to helm a script he's co-written with Austin Bunn which will feature an impressive ensemble --  Dane DeHaan, Elizabeth Olsen, Jack Huston, Michael C. Harry Potter’s a Beatnik. Daniel Radcliffe is currently shooting the thriller Kill Your Darlings in which he plays poet Allen Ginsberg, and the first set photos have surfaced online giving us a look at Radcliffe in his Ginsberg garb. Sorry, James Franco. Your brother Dave kicked box office butt this week in 21 Jump Street, and now Daniel Radcliffe is on track to erase the memory of you as Allen Ginsberg. Elizabeth Olsen Looks To The Future, Talks 'Kill Your Darlings,' 'Thérèse Raquin' & 'Very Good Girls'

16 March 2012 2:51 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

After a breakout year in 2011 courtesy of "Martha Marcy May Marlene," up-and-coming actress Elizabeth Olsen is planning for 2012 to be a "year of firsts": "my first time portraying a real-life person," "my first period piece," and "for the first time in my life, I'm putting work first."

"I'm just really excited to work," Olsen told The Playlist while doing press rounds for "Silent House." "And it's a rollercoaster."

Olsen -- who was juggling her studies at Nyu when she shot "Martha Marcy May Marlene" and "Silent House" (as well as "Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding" arriving this summer), hasn't been in front of cameras for anything since finishing "Liberal Arts" in July. But she is now taking a break from school so she can shoot her next three films: Beat-era drama/murder mystery "Kill Your Darlings," period drama "Thérèse Raquin," and coming-of-age tale "Very Good Girls." 25 Potential 2013 Best Picture Oscar Contenders

Update: I've already realized I forgot to add Andrew Dominik's Killing Them Softly and John Hillcoat's The Wettest County to this list. That would make 27. I haven't yet gotten around to cleaning up "The Contenders" section of the site just yet and while some may argue it's too early to look toward the 2013 Oscars considering we just closed the book on the 2012 Oscar ceremony I have to kindly disagree. If for no other reason, looking at films that might be vying for Best Picture next year we get to sort through a bunch of films that may end up being considered the year's best. What's wrong with that? Granted, as is often the case when looking this far into the future, several of these films may end up being duds. Some may not actually hit theaters in 2012 (though most do have established release dates) and others just might »
