12 Years a Slave continues to be the leader in the clubhouse when it comes to nominations. After leading the Spirit Award nominations it now leads the International Press Academy's (Ipa) 2013 Satellite Award nominations with a total of ten noms, followed by American Hustle and Gravity, each with eight nominations. The top five nominees were rounded out by Rush with seven nominations and Inside Llewyn Davis and Saving Mr. Banks with six nominations each. The Satellites, however, are an interesting bunch. As you can see there are several nominations in each category, leaving pretty much no stone unturned. I guess you could say no nomination for Octavia Spencer (Fruitvale Station) is a surprise and, in my personal opinion, with such a large field of nominees I'd like to see Joaquin Phoenix (Her) get a nomination, but that certainly isn't going to be a film for everyone even though Arcade Fire was...

Columbia Pictures is planning a remake of Blake Edwards' 1962 thriller Experiment in Terror. Screenwriter Robert Pucci has been hired to pen the script for producers Lou Pitt and Matt Baer, with Edwards serving as executive producer. The original Experiment, directed by Edwards and starring Lee Remick, Glenn Ford and Stefanie Powers, was set in San Francisco and based on the novel Operation Terror by Gordon Gordon and Mildred Gordon, who adapted it for the screen. It told the story of a woman (Remick) who is terrorized by a criminal using her to help him steal money from the bank where she works, threatening to kill her teenage sister (Powers) if she doesn't comply. She enlists the aid of an FBI agent (Ford) to thwart the criminal.

John August, who penned the current Tim Burton release Big Fish, is reteaming with the director to write the script for Warner Bros. Pictures' Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Johnny Depp is attached to star in the redo of the 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and Warners is keen on getting the project before cameras early next year. August, who is said to have enjoyed an extremely positive working relationship with Burton on Big Fish, isn't the first writer hired to help Warners mount the update. Scott Frank, Gwyn Lurie and Pamela Pettler have previously handled writing chores but August is starting from scratch, sources said, by heading back to the original source material, the Roald Dahl classic novel. Charlie is being produced by Brad Grey, Richard Zanuck and Matt Baer. Michael Siegel is executive producing. August is repped by UTA. He previously penned Charlie's Angels and it's followup, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, for Columbia Pictures. His other credits include scripting and co-producing Doug Liman's Go.
