To celebrate the release of the drama/thriller The Glass Man, which finally gets a release this week, we sat down with the film’s star Andy Nyman to find out more.
First made in 2011 but stuck in legal wrangling, the new film is finally making its way to screens and, even though it has taken a decade, is actually even more perfectly timed than before. Nyman, best known for his performances in Ghost Stories and Judy, stars as Martin, a man struggling with debt that has consumed him and his wellbeing, When he takes a loan from a shark (James Cosmo), his problems seem to be over, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
A film that on the face of it is a typical thriller about money worries gone wrong, is actually much more and Nyman tells us about how its delay has actually helped it,...

The Online Acting school, The Actors Gym, have enlisted the help of Asa Butterfield, William Moseley, David Schaal and Ali Bastian to provide Online workshops and review submitted self-tapes.
Since launching in February, the online branch of Fidelski’s Fulham based acting school The Reel Scene has seen its popularity sky-rocket due to Covid-19. The main aim of The Actors Gym is to connect and support members with their online community, offering self-tape feedback, Q&a sessions with special guests, exclusive training and zoom workshops with key industry experts from a variety of fields.
Actors are encouraged to send off two self-tapes a month, from which they receive a page of written feedback. Self-taping is the process of recording an audition for a film or television role from home and then sending the resulting video to an agent to be submitted for a role, rather than attending an audition in person.

A man’s inability to tell dreams from reality makes for a smart premise but alarms sound when the plot begins to unravel
At one point in this British drama, Theo (Cristian Solimeno), the sharp-tongued bullying employer of protagonist Zel (Laurie Calvert), describes the latter as having all the charm of a “pubic hair in a cheese sandwich”. That’s maybe a bit harsh, but not entirely wrong. Introverted, shuffling young twentysomething Zel is far less engaging than practically every other character in the film, from his nagging mum (Sadie Frost) who swings by briefly to complain about his flat’s hygiene and is barely seen again, to the more compelling figure of Elliot (Billy Zane), Zel’s enigmatic, only-a-bit-creepy neighbour who gets him into lucid dreaming as way to deal with his social anxiety.

Check out two Rush featurettes. The first goes on the set with Chris Hemsworth, and the other is on driving an F1. The Ron Howard film opens on September 27th, and also stars Daniel Brühl, Olivia Wilde, Natalie Dormer, Alexandra Maria Lara, Joséphine de La Baume, Pierfrancesco Favino, Patrick Baladi and Cristian Solimeno. These new featurettes join the previous ones on "Surface Tension" and on the set of Nürburgring, as well as the ones we added which introduced James Hunt (Hemsworth), Niki Lauda (Brühl). Peter Morgan scripts Rush, which is produced by Andrew Eaton, Brian Grazer, Eric Fellner, Brian Oliver, Howard and Morgan.

It's about time. Finally, a poster, albeit an international version, has come along with the car actually alone in the poster. This is James Hunt's (Chris Hemsworth) McLaren F1 in Ron Howard's Rush, also with Daniel Bruhl as Niki Lauda, Olivia Wilde, Natalie Dormer, Alexandra Maria Lara, Joséphine de La Baume, Pierfrancesco Favino, Patrick Baladi and Cristian Solimeno. Peter Morgan wrote the screenplay for the Universal Pictures release which opens on September 27th, 2013 and is produced by Howard, Brian Grazer, Andrew Eaton, Eric Fellner, Brian Oliver and Morgan. The epic action-thriller stars Hemsworth as the charismatic Englishman James Hunt and Brühl as the disciplined Austrian perfectionist Niki Lauda, whose clashes on the Grand Prix racetrack epitomized the contrast between these two extraordinary characters, a distinction reflected in their private lives.

French poster for Rush is the same thing again with Hemsworth as Hunt, Bruhl as Lauda Exactly how many of these Rush posters with the same thing over and over again do we need? Isn't this a Formula 1 movie? Show us some more cars, or race scenes in a poster. It can't be that much of a complicated thing to do. Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen) wrote the screenplay for the Ron Howard film which opens in theaters on September 27th, 2013 from Universal Pictures. The cast includes lovely Olivia Wilde as well as Natalie Dormer, Alexandra Maria Lara, Joséphine de La Baume, Pierfrancesco Favino, Patrick Baladi and Cristian Solimeno.

Latest poster for Ron Howard's Rush. Time to beef up the adrenalin? So, we're in a bit of a repetitive mode here with these posters from the Formula 1 film which, unfortunately, don't include much Formula 1 in them. We're all for images of Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl as James Hunt and Niki Lauda respectively, but a poster with the drivers in action would be very welcome at this point in time, especially since the film debuts soon, on September 27th. Andrew Eaton, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Eric Fellner, Brian Oliver and screenwriter Peter Morgan produce. Also on board Rush are Olivia Wilde, Natalie Dormer, Alexandra Maria Lara, Joséphine de La Baume, Pierfrancesco Favino, Patrick Baladi and Cristian Solimeno.

I can't remember a time I went to the Seattle International Film Festival (Siff) press launch and looked over the list of films and saw so many I was interested in seeing. The claim to fame for over the years is to call it the largest and most-highly attended festival in the United States. This is a fact I've often taken issue with as I don't equate quantity with quality. Granted, there has been a large number of quality features to play the fest over the years, including Golden Space Needle (Best Film) winners such as Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985), My Life as a Dog (1987), Trainspotting (1996), Run Lola Run (1999), Whale Rider (2003) and even recent Best Director winner, Michel Hazanavicius's Oss 117: Nest of Spies in 2006. That said, looking over this year's crop of films I see a lot of films I will be doing my absolute best to see.

The Glass Man
Stars: Andy Nyman, Neve Campbell, Cristian Solimeno, James Cosmo | Written and Directed by Cristian Solimeno
By day two FrightFest had offered child tormenting imps, depraved psychotic killers, and the inescapable force of Death itself. Still to come were vampires, trolls, and all manner of other terrifying supernatural entities. But The Glass Man deals with something a little more down to earth, something that at one time or another – particularly in these uncertain economic times – could affect us all: bankruptcy.
Have you ever looked at your bank balance, and got that sinking feeling? That “oh crap, what do I do Now?” feeling that makes you sick to your stomach and uncertain about your next move? By day two FrightFest had offered child tormenting imps, depraved psychotic killers, and the inescapable force of Death itself. Still to come were vampires, trolls, and all manner of other terrifying supernatural entities. But The Glass Man deals with something a little more down to earth, something that at one time or another – particularly in these uncertain economic times – could affect us all: bankruptcy.
Have you ever looked at your bank balance, and got that sinking feeling? That “oh crap, what do I do Now?” feeling that makes you sick to your stomach and uncertain about your next move? That’s the basis for the horror of The Glass Man; what would you do to make it right, and how would you process the reality of what was happening to you.

As promised in our Event Report from this year's amazing as always Film4 FrightFest film fest in the UK, we're back with a full gallery of photos from the event taken by our man on the scene, Gareth aka Pestilence, along with a quartet of new reviews.
As you're no doubt aware from our past several years of covering the event, FrightFest is nothing if not eclectic, as evidenced by the films that are the subject of these four reviews from Gareth:
The Glass Man
Starring Andy Nyman, James Cosmo, Neve Campbell, Brett Allen
Directed by Cristian Solimeno
Martin Pyrite has lost his job. But instead of telling his wife, he continues his work routine and gets into enormous monetary difficulties. Then late one night a sinister debt collector bangs on his door with an offer – if Martin helps him carry out an important task, he’ll wipe the financial slate clean.

The Glass Man
Directed by Cristian Solimeno
Starring Andy Nyman, James Cosmo, Neve Campbell
UK, 2011
Time for our second of many British films at Frightfest this year and we were treated to the World Premiere of Cristian Solimeno’s The Glass Man; a surprisingly affecting drama / thriller that rummages into the spiralling psyche of an ordinary man falling further and further into muddy proceedings as he attempts to dig himself out of a simple lie.
After he loses his job, Martin Pyrite lies to his wife and continues his routine, hoping things will somehow work out. Debt piles up as does the guilt and it’s not long before a sinister debt collector shows up at his house late at night with an offer – Martin can help him do the deeds he needs done for one single night and the financial slate will be wiped clean. Or he destroys his life and takes everything.

As the holiest range of dates in the British horror fanatic’s calendar now consigns itself to history, so too do the memories of this year’s Film4 FrightFest (Thursday 25 August to Monday 29 August). As usual, Dread Central was on the scene to bring you insight into the machinations of the UK’s biggest horror film festival. Read on for the details and a sample of our huge forthcoming image gallery!
Now in its twelfth year of operation, the UK’s premier destination for lovers of all things scary and violent appears to have settled solidly into what will likely be its permanent home for the future – the Empire Cinema in London’s Leicester Square. Did we mention last year that it’s also the largest cinema screen in the UK? We did, you say? Well, it is. And it’s a wonderful thing to behold every single time you enter the auditorium.

This is the Pure Movies review of The Glass Man, directed by Cristian Solimeno, and starring Andy Nyman, James Cosmo, Neve Campbell, Brett Allen, Lorraine Burroughs, Lauren Cuthbertson and Will Francis. Martin Pyrite (Andy Nyman) is having a really bad day. Not only is he desperately trying to prevent his wife (Neve Campbell) from finding out he has been fired, he is given a terrible reference and ordered out of the office forever, realises the true severity of his financial difficulties and is quietly mugged in broad daylight – all before the mysterious debt collector Pecco (James Cosmo) arrives on his doorstep with a proposition.

The toast of 2011′s Frightfest thus far and certainly a classier-than-average effort for a horror film festival of any sort, Cristian Solimeno’s The Glass Man concluded amid a round of applause last night in Leicester Square’s jam-packed Empire cinema. Distinguished by its reliance on an outstanding performance from up-and-comer Andy Nyman (best known for small comic bit-parts in Brit productions like Death at a Funeral and Severance), this is one film well-conceived enough that it need not rely on scare tactics and buckets of blood to keep you intrigued; it is a timely, thoughtful and ultimately rather disturbing drama which delivers a warning message of sorts to the insulated, prevailing middle class.
Martin (Nyman) has just lost his job, though hasn’t yet conveyed that information to his wife, Julie (Neve Campell), and continues with the routine of getting dressed and driving to work every day. One day,...

Martin Pyrite (Andy Nyman) is having the worst day ever. It’s 2010, smack in the middle of the financial crisis. He’s lost his job, got a piss-poor reference and no one in the office will talk to him. He’s up to his eyes in debt, he can’t quite bring himself to tell his beautiful high class wife (Neve Campbell), and now someone’s nicked his bloody watch. And it’s about to get worse… The second feature from Footballer’s Wives actor Cristian Solimeno is a resolutely British slow burner, tea and...

The line-up for 2011′s annual FrightFest in London’s Leicester Square has just been announced and it’s another amazing year.
Opening with the Guillermo Del Toro-produced Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and closing up with Julian Gilbey’s A Lonely Place to Die there are plenty of thrillers, shockers and gore-fuelled splattefests, with premieres of some big genre films.
Robin Hardy’s The Wicker Tree, the companion piece to his classic The Wicker Man, is having its European premiere and Andy Nyman’s dark thriller The Glass Man goes before an audience for the first time.
Chillerama, a horror anthology from directors Adam Rifkin, Tim Sullivan, Adam Green, and Joe Lynch, was hinted at last year’s festival and now comes before the FrightFest faithful with ludicrous and brilliant titles such as The Diary Of Anne Frankenstein, I Was A Teenage Werebear and Zom-b-Movie on offer.

Cristian Solimeno’s forthcoming film The Glass Man has been on our radar for a while now, the independent British thriller has Andy Nyman, James Cosmo and Neve Campbell as its leads and is currently shooting in London.
The Facebook page for the film continues as the place to be when it comes to updates with new stills released all the time, and tonight they pointed me to the film’s official website which had a sparkly new trailer to show off.
Featuring more Neve Campbell, this trailer expands on the premise as teased in our first look at the film, that of a man whose past catches up with him in the form of debt collector James Cosmo who turns up one night to claim his debt one way or another. Cosmo remains a truly terrifying presence particularly when set against Nyman’s obsequious failed banker and as you...

We’re fans of Andy Nyman’s work on stage with Ghost Stories, or behind the scenes with Derren Brown, as well as his roles in Charlie Brooker’s Dead Set and Christopher Smith’s Severance, so it’s fair to say that the man knows how to pick his projects.
While it’s still early in the production of Cristian Solimeno’s film The Glass Man has itself a poster and a trailer with Nyman, Neve Campbell and the slightly terrifying presence of actor James Cosmo.
Speaking to Styd Nyman offered this as a synopsis,
In a nutshell The Glass Man is about a guy with a nice middle class lifestyle who works in the financial sector. Thanks to the banking collapse he loses his job but instead of telling his wife (Campbell) he continues his 9-5 routine and gets into enormous monetary difficulties. Then late one night there...

The big Elijah Wood news in the past couple days was that the actor will appear in The Hobbit to reprise his character Frodo from The Lord of the Rings. (Details on that appearance here [1].) But he's also got another role booked: he'll be Ben Gunn in a Sky TV adaptation of Treasure Island, scripted by Stewart Harcourt and directed by Steve Barron (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). Eddie Izzard is playing Long John Silver, which is brilliant. After the break, Neve Campbell books a role to follow Scream 4, and Michael Fassbender circles a Sean Penn film. The Glass Man is shooting now, with Neve Campbell, Andy Nyman and James Cosmo appearing, with Cristian Solimeno writing and directing. Called "a recession horror film," the plot goes like this: The Glass Man is about a guy with a nice middle class lifestyle who works in the financial sector.
