Unlike some of the other major characters that can firmly be termed as superheroes, Watchmen have been utterly controversial figures, right from when DC first introduced them, back in 1986. Major characters such as Ozymandias and Doctor Manhattan were initially integrated in DC’s primary universe via 2017’s Doomsday Clock, which saw the two featured alongside iconic figures such as Batman, Superman, and the Joker.

However, a range of prominent narratives in the past have led to Watchmen often being accused of being fascist, which in itself was a major plot point that DC Comics dealt with in the 1980s. While the likes of Rorschach, Doctor Manhattan, and The Comedian have often engaged in questionable acts, Alan Moore, back in 1987, debunked the common notion, claiming that none of his characters were fascist.

Alan Moore revealed why he suspected that DC was keeping him away from its flagship characters like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. The creator has had a hand in making stories for these characters but was initially given DC’s C-tier and D-tier pantheon to work with. The reason for this came to light when Alan Morre talked about some of his other works, which may have caused DC not to give the creator particular characters from the A-list.

“The Watchmen Chapter 1”, is the first of a two-chapter animated film, adapting the 1987 “Watchmen’ graphic novel title by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, with appearances by ‘Rorschach’, ‘Doctor Manhattan’, ‘Nite Owl’, ‘Silk Spectre’ and ‘The Comedian, releasing Tba:
“…October 1985, New York City detectives investigate the murder of ‘Edward Blake’.
“With the police having no leads, costumed vigilante ‘Rorschach’ decides to probe further.
“Rorschach deduces Blake to have been the true identity of ‘The Comedian’, a costumed hero employed by the government, after finding his costume and signature smiley-face pin badge.
“Believing that Blake's murder could be part of a larger plot against costumed adventurers, Rorschach seeks out and warns four of his retired comrades:
‘…shy inventor ‘Daniel Dreiberg’, formerly the second ‘Nite Owl’, the superpowered and emotionally detached ‘Jon Osterman’, codenamed ‘Doctor Manhattan’, Doctor Manhattan's lover ‘Laurie Juspeczyk’, the second ‘Silk Spectre’ …

Yesterday, we reported new details about DC Comics and Warner Bros.’ upcoming “Watchmen” animated project, which will be released as a two-part movie. Both DC and Warner promise a faithful adaptation of the original comic book, so we’re excited to see how Moore and Gibbons’ legendary story comes to life. Alan Moore’s “Watchmen” is considered one of the best comic books ever written. It’s a gritty superhero story set in a corrupt, dystopian future, serving as a metaphor for a hero-less world filled with heroes. The animated project will use CGI to adapt the original story, with the first part releasing later this year and the second part in 2025. Additionally, Warner and DC have just released the first official trailer for the animated project!

Alan Moore’s 1986-1987 limited series comic “Watchmen” is obviously a big game changer in comic books. Arriving the same year as Frank Miller’s 1986 “The Dark Knight Returns,” both heralded a new age of darker, much more mature comic books aimed at adult-level readers. Both signaled a new era in comics, and their influence on the culture is still being felt decades later.

Just yesterday, we reported on the new information related to DC Comics’ and Warner Bros.’ upcoming Watchmen animated project, which will be released as a two-part animated movie. For the first time in a while, both DC and Warner promise a faithful adaptation of the original comic book, so we are quite excited to see how Moore and Gibbons’ legendary story comes to life in this iteration. Alan Moore’s epic Watchmen comic book is arguably the best comic book ever written. A gritty superhero story that shows the corruption of a not-so-distant dystopian future, Watchmen is a metaphor for a heroless future filled with heroes. The animated project will see the original story adapted using CGI, and we will see the first part released later this year, while the second part is coming out in 2025. On top of that, Warner and DC have surprised us with the first official trailer for the animated project!

Who watches the Watchmen? Pretty much anyone who knows that Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ original comic book run is one of the greatest works of fiction ever written, that’s who. But when it comes to Watchmen screen adaptations, the source material has never actually been fully adapted. Sure, Zack Snyder’s 2009 movie is, in many ways, faithful to Moore and Gibbons’ work, even recreating many of its panels – but it makes major changes in the final act, swapping out the arrival of a giant fake mutant squid in New York for a more grounded Doctor Manhattan-styled attack. And the astonishingly great 2019 Watchmen HBO miniseries from Damon Lindelof proved to be a sequel series to the original comic rather than an actual adaptation. So there’s reason to be excited, then, for Watchmen Chapters 1 & 2 – a two-movie animated adaptation of the comic, set to bring the entire story to the screen.

Who watches the Watchmen?
Maybe the better question is, who wants to watch another direct adaptation of Watchmen?
Updates have been scarce since we first got word that Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios were developing an animated feature based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' iconic graphic novel during Sdcc last year, but the first teaser trailer has now been released online.
The two-part event movie utilizes CG animation style, with Chapter 1 set to debut later this year and Chapter 2 at some point in 2025. The project has been described as "a leap forward for our DC Cinematic Animation."
The trailer teases some key moments that are sure to be familiar to fans of the comic - and Zack Snyder's live-action adaptation!
There's no getting away from the fact that this looks a lot like the 2009 movie, which, to be fair, did also recreate numerous panels from the page.

The Annecy Animation Festival has showcased a lot of upcoming projects from Warner Bros. Firstly, the studio would debut 20 minutes of footage from the new animated feature film from the realm of Middle-Earth with Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim. Warners would also announce projects coming from their DC Comics division. A trailer was shown for a two-part, R-rated, animated feature film version of the Watchmen graphic novel by Alan Moore. Now, James Gunn would send a video message for a presentation on sharing his vision for the first project from DC Studios — Creature Commandos.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Gunn sent in a video due to being in production with Superman in Atlanta. Creature Commandos is about a ragtag group of monsters that are led by Amanda Waller (voiced by Viola Davis) and is set to release on Max in December. Gunn explained to the crowd at Annecy,...

The Boys' Sister Sage Explained and Why It's So Hard to Write Smart Superheroes - Main Image
Homelander (Antony Starr) is the biggest villain of The Boys. He’s literally unstoppable, and he’s climbed to the very top of Vought International's power structure over the course of three seasons.
With Season 4, though, Homelander is said to have met his (mental) match with Sister Sage (Susan Heyward), and showrunner Eric Kripke explains how hard it is to write for a character who is supposed to be the “Smartest Person in the World.”
Who is Sister Sage?
Sister Sage is one of the new characters introduced in Season 4 of The Boys. As mentioned before, she’s described as the “Smartest Person in the World,” and Homelander himself recruits her to be part of The Seven. Could the upcoming adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ iconic 1986 graphic novel Watchmen be the definitive version that fans have been waiting for?
Watchmen has long been one of those stories that has long been cast as ‘unfilmable’, even though plenty of filmmakers have tried.
Zack Snyder is the only filmmaker to date to get a Watchmen film out into the world and whilst it has its fans, his (mostly) faithful 2009 adaptation has its fair share of detractors too.
The most acclaimed version to date is Damon Lindelof’s small screen miniseries, which wisely didn’t try to emulate the original graphic novel, instead telling an impressive tale which extended the Watchmen mythos rather than trying to recreate the magic of Moore and Gibbons tale.
Enter Warner Bros’ upcoming animated version then, which is set to try and recreate Moore and Gibbons’ original tale. It is CG-rendered, rated R...

Warner Bros. Entertainment has dropped the first teaser trailer for the upcoming two-part, R-rated animated Watchmen movie, which I must admit, I had entirely forgotten about.
The project was first announced in 2017, but we haven’t heard much since. The trailer was screened for audiences at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, where it was confirmed that the CG-animated movie would be released in two parts. Chapter I will be released later this summer (with Blu-ray.com giving an August 13th release) with Chapter II coming in 2025.

"There is good, and there is evil, and evil must be punished." So Rorschach says... Warner Bros has debuted a first look teaser for an upcoming animated adaptation of the celebrated Watchmen graphic novel. Back in 2009, Zack Snyder adapted the groundbreaking graphic novel into an epic 3 hour long movie (to mixed reviews). Which was extended into the "Ultimate Cut", including animated segments of "Tales of the Black Freighter" from the original book. There was also a Motion Comic version released in 2009. Later came the "Watchmen" series on HBO in 2019, a complete re-interpretation from Damon Lindelof. Now, it appears that WB is adapting the entire book once again. It seems to be sticking with the same story, with some visuals reinvented, though most of it looks mostly familiar. There's only 30 seconds of footage here so far, and barely anything else is known about it yet. Created with CGI animation featuring some...

In 2009, Zack Snyder made his foray into the DC Universe with Watchmen, basing it directly on the 1986–1987 DC Comics limited series of the same name. Adapting a grim storyline of a dystopian nature posed its own set of challenges and forced the filmmaker to take concrete steps to address issues within the plot.
Additionally, he led a slew of creative decisions, from casting to the color palette, which went on to become some of his signature elements in the coming installments of his then-upcoming full-fledged DC Extended Universe.
A still from the Zack Snyder Watchmen movie | Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures
In a manner similar to what he did with Man of Steel, the 300 director altered the tone of the plot to suit his version of the adaptation better and, once again, stirred a debate with a hotly debated ending. The conclusion of the dystopian flick involved a significant departure from the comics.

Alan Moore’s acclaimed ‘Watchmen’ comic is widely regarded as one of the greatest ever written. This gritty superhero tale explores a corrupt, dystopian future where superheroes exist but are far from heroic. The story has attained classic status, prompting major studios to seek its adaptation into film. Zack Snyder’s controversial live-action version was first, followed by Lindelof’s HBO series, which further divided fans. Now, DC Comics is returning to the source material with an animated project in the works.
This animated adaptation of the graphic novel is eagerly anticipated. It remains unclear if it will tie into a larger animated universe or take creative liberties like previous adaptations. DC has recently confirmed significant release details for this upcoming project.

During last year's San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Bros. Animation announced plans for adaptations of Crisis on Infinite Earths and Watchmen.
We've had two instalments of the three-part Crisis so far and both have proven to be largely disappointing. With DC Studios looking to tell stories across live-action and animation (Creature Commandos is set to bow this December), those direct-to-dvd movies run the risk of concluding on a sour note thanks to the upcoming Part Three.
On the plus side, though, we still have Watchmen to look forward to. The iconic graphic novel was written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons, with Zack Snyder bringing it to theaters in a live-action 2008 movie (which controversially did away with the squid).
Since then, we've had Damon Lindelof's sequel series on HBO which received widespread critical acclaim.
As for this project, a panel at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Market saw Warner Bros.

“Fast X” and “Lupin” director Louis Leterrier will make his animation debut with “The Chimera Brigade,” an action/sci-fi series that pulls from European folklore and pop culture and turns a simple comic-book premise: What if Marie Curie’s discoveries help birth the world’s first superheroes?
Leterrier will co-direct with Antoine Charreyron (“Batwheels”), while Ron Dyens of Sacrebleu Productions acts as lead producer. The project is adapted from an award-winning comic series written by Serge Lehman and Fabrice Colin and illustrated by Gallic artist Gess.
Taking place between the two world wars in a steampunk vision of Paris evocative of Jules Verne and “The Rocketeer,” the series sets a Gallic and Teutonic superhuman squads against one another in a race to prevent – or accelerate – the next global conflict. It's a tragedy that "comic book" is synonymous with "superhero." If film is sometimes dismissed as a less mature medium than literature, and television in turn deemed less than film, then comics are at the bottom of that rung. The medium being the birthplace of an inherently childish genre about strongmen in capes doesn't dissuade the uninitiated of that notion.
Someone who definitely agrees with me is Irish comic writer Garth Ennis. He co-created "The Boys," a series where CIA agent Billy Butcher leads a five-man squad dedicated to taking down corrupt "supes."
Ennis grew up reading war comics and the magazine "2000 Ad" (home of Judge Dredd), so he has no childhood fondness for superheroes and can look at them with a different eye than most comic writers. "I don't hate superheroes," Ennis has protested. "I just think they're kind of silly." Hence, "The Boys" is all about taking the piss out of superheroes,...

Welcome to the latest instalment of a brand-new feature here on Nerdly, where one of our comic gurus, Ian Wells, delves into comics history and dissects Comics Interview, the long-running journal of interviews and criticism from David Anthony Kraft (Dak).
Respect For Dak
In this issue Dak kicks things off talking about how much writing he is still doing in other forms. Borrowing a page from his book I want to take a more extended look at his comics career as I don’t feel I done it justice in the first issue. I mean no disrespect but I feel ‘journeyman writer’ is best to describe his career. It is an impressive catalogue of work, where he can play claim to having worked on legendary characters such as; Kamandi, Tarzan, Captain America and She Hulk. In 1984 he finished a long stint on Worlds Finest, so you can add Batman and...

Following its finale in 2010, co-creator Damon Lindelof’s sci-fi adventure drama series Lost sparked debate and division among fans. Despite being hailed as a groundbreaking show that revolutionized television storytelling, its conclusion left many viewers feeling unsatisfied and even betrayed.

Thus, disappointed with the ending, fans went on to criticize Damon Lindelof for the mess. However, having reached the limit of endurance after three years since the wrap-up, Lindelof seemingly channeled his inner Walter White to defend Lost ending. Unwilling to apologize for the mess he created, as per fans’ conception, Lindelof offered his closure to the dissatisfactory ending of Lost.

Have you seen an occult fantasy movie or TV series in recent years? If you have, then it is quite possible that it owes a lot to the Hellblazer comic book about John Constantine that DC Comics began publishing in 1988. For example, Supernatural referred to the adventures of Constantine, but traces of the detective-demonologist can be found wherever the smell of hellish fumes and pentagram paints waft.
The rude and dishonest detective John Constantine first appeared in Alan Moore's comic book series The Saga of Swamp Thing. In 2005, the long-running Hellblazer comic was brought to the big screen by director Francis Lawrence.

The Boys is one of the best superhero series with some of the most gory and violent action sequences. Based on a comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the Prime Video series is created by Eric Kripke and it follows the story of a young man named Hughie whose girlfriend is killed by a reckless supe, because of that, he joins Billy Butcher with a team of vigilantes who are trying to get justice against the supes, who are backed by their very violent leader Homelander and an evil corporation Vought. The Boys is just getting better with each new and let’s hope that’s the case for the upcoming fourth season. So, if you love all the gore, violence, dark comedy, supes, and genuine emotions in The Boys here are some similar shows you could watch next.

Spoilers for "X-Men '97" to follow.
"I am trying to be better," proclaimed Magneto — "Please... do not make me let you down." He was speaking to a small United Nations panel, but addressing humanity as a whole. So, of course, mankind again forced his iron (controlling) fist.
As of episode 9, "Tolerance Is Extinction Part 2," Magneto is once more an antagonist to the X-Men (I won't say "bad guy"). He puts on his old red outfit, complete with the telepathy-blocking helmet. Regrettably, I don't think we'll be seeing Magneto back in the opening credits team line-up anytime soon, if ever again.
This heel U-turn is far from unmotivated, though. The season's Big Bad, Bastion, orchestrated the genocide of mutant nation Genosha and intends to build a future where human/Sentinel hybrids rule enslaved mutants. Magneto is a Holocaust survivor (a tragic backstory that "X-Men '97" has maintained). He's always refused to...

The Killing Joke is one of those films that would have been a challenge to adapt. Despite the film being adapted into an animated feature, there was a lot of backlash about how the story was treated. Regardless, Bruce Timm had certain reservations about the adaptation from the beginning of production.
Batman: The Killing Joke
Timm revealed to Empire what his idea for the film was, and that pretty early on in the project, there was one aspect of the film that was set in stone from the very beginning. The film made a lot of changes from the source material, but this bit was to be kept as is, Bruce Timm revealed.

In 2016 Bruce Timm reunited with Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill to adapt Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s acclaimed 1989 graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke. Following the comic’s nature, the animated film earned an R-rating upon its release, as Timm wanted to stay truthful to the source material, and Tkj became the first rated R DC Universe Original Animated release.
But reflecting on the film’s adult rating, the Batman: The Animated Series creator clarified it wasn’t the start of a trend of more rated-r animated DC releases moving forward.

George R.R. Martin is known for his A Song of Ice and Fire book series, which would become the legendary HBO series Game of Thrones. The writer has been in the business for decades and has contributed his storytelling to multiple franchises, including the Wild Card anthology series of novels as well as the Elden Ring games.
Martin’s writing in Game of Thrones is known for its merciless killing of fan-favorite characters. Fans at the time were surprised by an important death in each season and many times the arcs of these characters were not even complete before their demise. The author mentioned that when he was younger, he loved The Avengers #9 comics because of one character’s death.

When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, Marvel Studios regained the Fantastic Four and X-Men. Captain Britain may or may not fall into the latter category, but he's a character we've been waiting to see in the MCU for a long time.
We're pretty sure Brian Braddock has always belonged to Marvel Studios, with only his sister - Betsy Braddock - and a few mutant supporting players likely off-limits before the Disney/Fox merger.
Regardless, a new rumour shared by scooper @MyTimeToShineH claims that a Captain Britain TV series is in the works for Disney+. That's all we have to go on for now, though we'd be shocked if Marvel's MI13 and Excalibur comics don't influence what we see.
There's also no word on a premiere date or the heroes and villains who will take centre stage beyond Captain Britain.
The last significant update on Captain Britain came from Marvel Studios...

The final film in the Dcamu, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War brought together many classic characters from the DC roster into the forefront to battle Darkseid. The film series which began with Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox saw many characters that were not usually explored in the mainstream such as Constantine, Raven, and more.
One such character was Etrigan the Demon, who joined the Justice League in their battle against Darkseid. Etrigan the Demon is known for his magical powers and his bond with the immortal knight Jason Blood. The Demon is also known for his penchant for rhyming while speaking, which was done away with Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. Spoilers ahead.

Is there any current director who is more controversial than Zack Snyder? It’s wild how divisive a figure he is, with his fans nearly cult-like in their devotion, while his detractors are just as fervent. Here at JoBlo, we’ve always been ardent supporters, even if we haven’t unquestioningly praised all of his films. Thus, we thought it would be interesting to do an all-around ranking of his films (although we’ve left the animated Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole off the list). So, without further ado, here’s our ranking from worst to best.
Sucker Punch:
I’ll admit to not knowing precisely what Snyder was trying to pull off when I saw this movie in 2011. It remains the most obscure of his live-action films. It is a tough nut to crack, being that it’s a fantastical, hyper-surrealistic fantasy centred around a woman...

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have, in less than 15 years, established themselves as the most exciting composers working in contemporary film.
Their first score was David Fincher’s masterpiece “The Social Network.” The score was a haunting, atmospheric triumph, and it won them Oscars, an even more impressive feat given the Academy’s historic anti-rock band bias. And what began as an exclusive collaboration with Fincher soon blossomed outward – they have worked with Pixar and Ken Burns, scored a prestige TV version of Alan Moore’s “Watchmen,” and an animated “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie. They can do it all, while remaining uniquely them.
They are unstoppable, too. This week “Challengers,” from Luca Guadagnino, is released alongside their soundtrack album. And they have a pair of scores still coming this year – for the big-budget Apple movie “The Gorge” and for Guadagnino’s “Queer,” starring Daniel Craig.

Few modern blockbuster filmmakers draw as sharply divided reactions from critics and general audiences as Zack Snyder. For every review that praises Snyder’s remarkable ability to create grand, fantastical visual imagery on film, there will be another review criticizing the filmmaker’s overreliance on slow motion and weak plot points. Let us take a look at Snyder’s filmography, and the critical reaction to his works as determined by Rotten Tomatoes.
Dawn of the Dead (2004), Tomatometer: 76% Zombies attack in Dawn of the Dead
Zack Snyder‘s maiden effort as a director remains his most critically successful venture. In 2004, Zack Snyder presented the world with his dramatic reimagining of George Romero’s classic horror tale of a zombie invasion. The slick, visually compelling action scenes coupled with a strong screenplay by James Gunn help elevate the film above your run-of-the-mill horror remakes.
Dawn of the Dead is now available for streaming on Starz.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan played Edward Blake aka The Comedian in Zack Snyder’s 2009 film Watchmen. It was this lesser-known DC property that launched Snyder’s career into one of the fan-favorite Cbm directors. Morgan only had great things to say about the film, which he shared was ahead of its time. Morgan was sure that the series created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons would be loved forever by fans.

Tom Cruise is easily one of the biggest Hollywood stars of all time. Even though he has been in the industry for over four decades, he is still sought after by the best directors to star in their projects. The actor himself exerts his influence too, often to bring out the best in him, and his decisions have always paid off.
However, he does not always get his way, as Zack Snyder recently revealed. The director confessed that he wanted the Mission: Impossible actor to play a certain character in one of his films, but Cruise sought a different role.

Zack Snyder is all set to release the second part of his space opera magnum opus Rebel Moon. The Netflix film is the follow-up to last year’s Chapter 1 – A Child of Fire. The filmmaker has had a busy few years after helming large-scale blockbusters such as Army of the Dead and Justice League.
While Snyder has worked with many A-listers, he reportedly got a call from the legendary star Tom Cruise early in his career while he had just finished 300. The actor reportedly gave him a surprise call after the film opened big at the box office. Cruise was also reportedly Snyder’s first choice to play Ozymandias in his divisive Watchmen adaptation.

There are very few comic book writers who have attained the status of ‘legendary’. Comic book enthusiasts unanimously agree one of them is Alan Moore, who took DC comics to its heights during the 80s and 90s. He revived a number of forgotten supernatural characters, especially through his run with Swamp Thing, such as Spectre, the Demon, the Phantom Stranger, Deadman, and introduced John Constantine.

Moore’s contribution to the comic book world is immense, and being an industry expert for decades, he knows all the ins and outs. He understands how times have changed, and how several concepts that worked before won’t work today.

Batman: The Animated Series, a cornerstone of beloved DC shows, celebrated its 28th anniversary. Batman: The Animated Series was followed by two sequel series — Superman: The Animated Series (1996-2000) and The New Batman Adventures (1997-1999).

When it comes to the Batman comics, each follows a story sacred to its own, many manage to stand out, but only some are Alan Moore’s The Killing Joke. It is the story that is regarded as one of the darkest in Batman’s many variations. The violence is off the charts, the tones set much darker, and everything else in Gotham is stuck between a rock and a hard place.
The Killing Joke
Despite being regarded as a storytelling masterpiece, there is a lot about the comic book arc that Moore hates. Ironically, it was his own mindscape that came to life through this project. There are many artists who come to hate their art after a while. Some could hate it in the process of making it, while some might simply dislike it.

Written by Mark Waid and Alex Ross, DC Comics Kingdom Come was published in 1996 under the Elseworlds imprint. Alex Ross developed the concept from the original idea and painted the comic book in gouache, which has been appreciated by ardent comic book fans. DC Animated Universe veteran Bruce Timm also appreciates Alex Ross’ concept for the comic book.
Set in an alternate future of the DC Universe, Kingdom Come’s story takes the readers into a time when the Justice League team and the new-generation superheroes are fighting each other to determine the future of the planet. The limited series was reportedly written as an indictment against the growing trend of violent anti-hero archetypes that sprung out in the early 1990s. Bruce Timm explained in detail why the comic book couldn’t be adapted for an animated movie.

Alan Moore is a legend. The comics that he has created have become some of the most significant in DC Studios, having been behind iconic works like Batman: The Killing Joke, Night Olympics, and Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow. He has a reputation for creating works that are the perfect blend of literary genius and mainstream comics.
Justice League Unlimited
Despite all of the iconic works he created, the writer famously hated his works being adapted onto the screen. It did not matter if it was live-action, animation, or retellings; if they were using his comics as source material, he wanted nothing to do with it.
Suggested“It was all white people like me”: HBO Didn’t Want Damon Lindelof to Unmask One Watchmen Character That Alan Moore Didn’t Even Dare To
However, he did make one exception for an episode in the Dcau series, Justice League Unlimited.

15 years after its theatrical release, Zack Snyder's "Watchmen" occupies a curious spot in the history of comic book superhero cinema. While bleak blockbusters like "Dune: Part Two" and "Oppenheimer" might be all the rage in 2024, that wasn't the case when Snyder's film arrived in 2009. The success of "Iron Man" a year earlier signaled a shift in audiences' tastes. The brooding, auteur-led offerings of the 2000s (like "Hulk" and "The Dark Knight") would soon after give way to the studio-mandated crowd-pleasing spectacles of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Snyder's relentlessly downbeat and violent interpretation of writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons' equally grim milestone graphic novel suddenly felt wildly out of tempo with the genre, as did his subsequent vision for the now-kaput DC Extended Universe.

The Killing Joke is considered one of comic book legend Alan Moore’s crowing achievements in superhero comics. Right alongside his classic works like The Watchmen, The Killing Joke attempts to tell the story of Batman’s most notorious nemesis, the Joker.

The Killing Joke ended on quite the nebulous note, leaving whatever happened in the end open for interpretation. This was true for the animated adaptation of the comics as well, one that was headed by Bruce Timm as the executive producer. The iconic superhero media legend talked about what he thought about the ending of the story way back when he first encountered it.

“The People’s Joker” isn’t going to end the 2010s superhero boom all by itself. Other factors are contributing to the decline: “Madame Web” flopped. “The Marvels” and “Aquaman and the Last Kingdom” barely made a ripple. And the simple fact that stars like Dakota Johnson and Kristen Stewart feel free to shit on the superhero-industrial complex — in Johnson’s case, from the inside — without fearing for their careers is a sign that Marvel and DC don’t have the stranglehold on the film industry they did only a few years ago. But Vera Drew’s “queer coming-of-age fair use superhero world parody” might just be the killing blow.

Louis Gossett Jr., who was one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood, passed away on March 29, 2024. The veteran actor was the first Black actor to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 1982 for his role as drill instructor Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley in the film An Officer and a Gentleman.
Though the star still has a few more releases on the horizon, including John Krasinski’s If, one of the actor’s final TV appearances was the HBO show Watchmen. The series was lauded for reinventing the original comics and portraying the infamous Tulsa Massacre of 1921. Despite positive acclaim, the series was reclassified as a limited series, which reportedly hurt the veteran star.

DC’s Justice League: The Animated Series is one of the most entertaining to watch, as it tells a dynamic story with rich and compelling storytelling, perfectly integrated with stunning animation. The series has perfected the art of engaging narratives, where each episode presents a new challenge to our heroes, keeping the viewers at the edge of their seats.
Justice League
Even though the superhero team was so popular among the viewers another team of equally popular heroes was supposed to make their appearance on the show. it was the decision of the DC Comics President, Paul Levitz, who forbade the decision of their appearance. While it may look like a bad judgment to the fans initially, it was a well-planned decision from the President as it would have made them look outdated and a joke to a new generation of fans.

Batman and Joker are two of the most beloved DC comics characters of all time, and both have been played by numerous actors on the screen. However, when it comes to the best Batman-Joker pairing, fans will wholeheartedly agree that Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill were the best hero-villain duo they have ever come across. With films like Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and The Batman Superman Movie: World’s Finest, both actors have proven why they are considered to be the best of the best.

Bruce Timm, the visionary behind the acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series, actually admitted something unexpected. He wasn’t a fan of adapting the graphic novel The Killing Joke into a movie. Even though he did a great job in crafting a mature yet accessible Batman universe, he thought this particular story wasn’t suited for animation.
Batman: The Animated Series
Timm’s Batman: The Animated Series (Tas) was a masterclass in crafting a show that resonated with both children and adults. The show took a lot of inspiration from noir and classic animation styles but never shied away from mature themes. Remember the harrowing scene where Barbara Gordon falls from a building?
