Former British player John Lloyd thinks that Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer haven't been truthful when discussing record books as opposed to Novak Djokovic .
Tennis players play the game of tennis mostly because they love it but for a lot of them it's an obsession. You don't become as good as Djokovic, Federer, Nadal, and the like by just playing the game out of love. No, you get to that level by being obsessed with it, so much so that everything in your life becomes less important.
There have been great talents in the past but what separates legends from talents is the sacrifice and hours of work you put in. Nadal's career is a good example of a player who was incredibly dedicated to his craft. Djokovic's as well, same with Federer whose passion early in his career is long-forgotten due to his more mature approach in the second part of his career.

Over the last year the entertainment industry has suffered incalculable losses of talented people. Some of them hit home personally, as is the case with producer Euan Lloyd, who passed away this weekend in London. I first met Euan in 1978 when I was attending college in New Jersey. I had the enviable gig of being the film critic for the campus newspaper, which afforded me the opportunity to routinely attend press screenings of forthcoming films in New York, which was a stone's throw across the river from my native Jersey City. I had read about the upcoming release of "The Wild Geese" which seemed to promise a "too-good-to-be-true" cast composed of some of my favorite actors (Richard Burton, Roger Moore and Richard Harris above all) in the kind of gritty, macho British war flick that I had become addicted to ever since seeing "Zulu" at age 8. Here’s an interesting one. Qi’s team of researchers – often referred to as the ‘Qi Elves’ by Mr Stephen Fry – are spinning out into their own TV show.
BBC Two has picked up No Such Thing As The News for five episodes. Qi brainboxes James Harkin, Andrew Hunter Murray, Anna Ptaszynski and Dan Schreiber will appear on-screen and recount funny stories from the week’s news.

Constance Cummings: Actress in minor Hollywood movies became major London stage star. Constance Cummings: Actress went from Harold Lloyd and Frank Capra to Noël Coward and Eugene O'Neill Actress Constance Cummings, whose career spanned more than six decades on stage, in films, and on television in both the U.S. and the U.K., died ten years ago on Nov. 23. Unlike other Broadway imports such as Ann Harding, Katharine Hepburn, Miriam Hopkins, and Claudette Colbert, the pretty, elegant Cummings – who could have been turned into a less edgy Constance Bennett had she landed at Rko or Paramount instead of Columbia – never became a Hollywood star. In fact, her most acclaimed work, whether in films or – more frequently – on stage, was almost invariably found in British productions. That's most likely why the name Constance Cummings – despite the DVD availability of several of her best-received performances – is all but forgotten.

After more than 180 episodes as the host, Stephen Fry has decided to retire from Qi after the upcoming ‘M’ series…
Sad news, this. The mighty Mr Stephen Fry has decided to retire from his position as host of Qi, the fact-driven-and-utterly-hilarious BBC panel show that he’s hosted for over 180 episodes.
He’ll stick around for the upcoming series, all about the letter ‘M’, but after that he’ll depart the programme for pastures new. The show will carry on without him.
“For thirteen years I had one of the best jobs on television,” said Stephen Fry in a statement. “Behind the camera squadrons of quite extraordinarily brilliant researchers, programme makers and uniquely curious (in both senses of the word) people making that job so much easier.”
“In front of the camera generations of lively minds and above all of course the wonder of nature that is Alan Davies.

Frequently described as "Britain's nicest man", Michael Palin really has done it all. From playing a singing, cross-dressing lumberjack to travelling Around the World in 80 Days, the star has no plans to stop yet. He's even about to venture further than ever before, as he joins the Clangers' little moon planet as their new narrator.
Palin is a household name in the UK and around the world, thanks to his globetrotting adventures and most prominently his Monty Python fame. But here are some facts you may not know about the comedian...
1. Michael Edward Palin was born in Broomhill, Sheffield on May 5, 1943. He attended Birkdale Preparatory School and had his first acting - and possibly cross-dressing - experience at the age of 5 in a performance of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, in which he played Martha Cratchit... and fell off the stage.
Undeterred by this unfortunate turn of events and despite his extreme stage fright,...

Qi is everything that’s good about television. Arriving on our screens at a point when panel shows were reaching their zenith, this BBC show slotted in nicely to the schedules and carved its own little niche. Going from strength to strength, giving birth to extended episodes (Qi Xl), books, DVDs, it’s left an entertained and generally more learned viewership (along with the acceptance that Stephen Fry is one of the greatest people alive.)
It is a show which has seemingly always been around, though with plans for a series for every letter of the alphabet, we’re now approaching the halfway point. Qi (standing for Quite Interesting and a deliberate reversal of Iq), has had a plethora of guest panellists. Host Stephen Fry and series regular player Alan Davies are regularly joined by all manner of interesting guests, but let’s let our minds wander and think...

The Harry Potter film series may be the highest-grossing cinematic franchise of all time (even if it’s soon to be overtaken by the Marvel Cinematic Universe), but that doesn’t mean it’s anywhere near perfect, either as a series of adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s beloved novels or as a collection of standalone movie outings.
Over the epic 8-film saga, plenty of creaky, ridiculous and laughably-acted dialogue has sneaked its way in, and we’ve scoured the entire series to find the 20 most ludicrous lines, complete with an assessment of why they each make us cringe quite so much.
We’ve got wild over-acting, nonsensical dialogues that sound silly even with context, forced sexual tension that just doesn’t work at all, and plenty of earnest cornball schmaltz that might’ve worked for us as kids, but as adults, we can’t help but laugh.

In Preston Sturges’s landmark 1941 film Sullivan’s Travels, the writer-director achieves a unique balance of genre aesthetics. The film is billed as a comedy, and it more than earns that title. But a significant portion of it is actually a tragedy, completely unlike anything else in the film. The combination of both sides of the coin in this film is potent. They are almost completely different movies in plot and tone, the only constant being protagonist Sullivan. By combining both the comedic and tragic, Preston Sturges creates a Hollywood movie that defies convention.
The plot kicks off with John Lloyd Sullivan (Joel McCrea), a successful comedy director in Hollywood, wanting to direct a dramatic epic as a change of pace. He wants to make a movie called O Brother Where Art Thou? to connect with the harsh times people were experiencing during the Great Depression. He decides to ‘get into character’, in a sense,...

New York - John Lloyd Young won a Tony Award for bringing Frankie Valli to Broadway in the hit musical "Jersey Boys," but he knew trying to land a role in Clint movie adaptation wouldn't be easy. That being said, he didn't flinch when he was asked to audition. "I took them seriously because i wanted it to happen," Young says. "And also some of the best Hollywood musicals did use the original Broadway stars. I hoped that they would draw from the stage production, because that would be in my favor." Speaking with co-star Vincent Piazza earlier this month, Lloyd also reveals he had some important boosters on his side. Namely, the real life Valli who had been part of the musical's journey from the beginning. "This is also a very unique situation because Frankie Valli and Bob Gaudio are executive producers on the project and they are alive,...

Producer John Lloyd has described the late Rik Mayall as a "proper actor".
The 56-year-old - who passed away in London earlier today (June 9) - worked with Lloyd while starring as Lord Flashheart in Blackadder.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, Lloyd said that Mayall "had such charisma, and to see him live on stage was an amazing experience".
Best known for his roles in The Young Ones, Bottom and The New Statesman, Mayall enjoyed a long and successful career in comedy.
His long-term comedy partner Ade Edmondson paid tribute following the news of his death, saying that he feels "privileged" to have known him.
A cause of death has yet to be confirmed, but a Scotland Yard spokesman said that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

"Jersey Boys" is coming to the big screen! The just-released trailer for the Clint Eastwood-directed adaptation of the Broadway hit tells the story of The Four Seasons -- and it looks pretty darn good. The flick follows the rise to stardom of four boys from New Jersey, who became one of the biggest singing sensations in the 1960s. Check out the trailer above! John Lloyd plays Frankie Valli, reprising the role he played in the original stage version. The film also stars "Boardwalk Empire's" Vincent Piazza and Christopher Walken. In the Broadway play, different members from group take turns narrating the musical through the show ... and it seems like Eastwood is following suit in the flick by breaking the fourth wall. The music-heavy movie is set to hit theaters June 20th -- are you excited for the on-screen adaptation of "Jersey Boys"? Tell toofab in the comment section below!

It's been a whopping 30 years since Spitting Image first hit our screens on ITV in 1984. The satirical puppet show quickly became one of the most-watched shows of the 1980s and early 1990s.
I wasn't able to fully appreciate the series when it was first on TV. When I watched it in the early '90s as a child, I found it funny mainly because of the silly puppets, even if I didn't quite understand what was going on. But in retrospective viewings, it still holds up as a genuinely hilarious satire of politics, entertainment, sport and general UK culture of the era.
It's quite incredible to think that Spitting Image hasn't been on air since 1996. To put that into perspective, the Spice Girls had only just been unleashed, Tony Blair hadn't been elected yet, and Lorde had only just been born.
As a show that is heavily reliant on topical...

It's quite incredible to think that Spitting Image hasn't been on air since 1996. To put that into perspective, the Spice Girls had only just been unleashed, Tony Blair hadn't been elected yet, and Lorde had only just been born.
As a show that is heavily reliant on topical...

Arriving later in February, it will mark the 30th anniversary of the launch of the satirical television show.

The son-in-law of a Tennessee couple killed when a package exploded at their home has been charged with first-degree murder in their deaths. State Fire Marshal's Office spokeswoman Katelyn Abernathy said Richard Parker is also charged with unlawful possession of a prohibited weapon. Reached by telephone the day before the arrest Thursday, Parker declined to talk about the deaths of Jon and Marion Setzer with the Associated Press. Parker ran Legacy Restorations, a business that specializes in historic restorations, according to its website. His house was just behind the Setzers' in a semi-rural area of Lebanon, about 40 minutes east of Nashville.

BBC Four has announced a one-off documentary about Spitting Image.
Arena: Whatever Happened To Spitting Image? will mark the 30th anniversary of the classic satirical puppet show.
The programme will look back at the creation and history of the series, with contributions from caricaturists Peter Fluck, Roger Law and producer John Lloyd.
It will also discover where the iconic puppets currently live, after they were sold off at auction back in 2000.
Arena will find out how the puppets were created, and meet several team members including puppet-mould makers, designers, puppeteers, impressionists, writers and directors.
It will also ponder whether there is a gap in the TV market for such a satirical programme today, following its 17-year absence.
Anthony Wall, Series Editor of Arena, said: "I made a film about Fluck and Law in 1980, some years before Spitting Image was made, so it's great to be able to revisit their distinctive contribution to Britain's television history.

Veteran British comedy producer John Lloyd has reportedly had discussions with Rowan Atkinson about a possible movie based on the classic 1980s sitcom "Blackadder".
Considered one of the greatest comedies ever made, each of the four seasons of "Blackadder" was set in a different historical period but utilised many of the same cast members including Atkinson, Tony Robinson, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, Miranda Richardson and Tim McInnerny.
The first season was in the Middle Ages, the second in Elizabethan times, the third during the Regency era, the fourth during the First World War, and specials set in both Dickensian and contemporary times.
A fifth season was proposed long ago which would've been set in the 1960s and followed a band. Lloyd tells The Sun that, with the cast now getting on in years, the setting will be quite different:
Rowan and I had this great idea, because we are all getting a bit old,...

'Blackadder' is set to return as a movie. John Lloyd, who produced the popular 1980s period sitcom, has held talks with Rowan Atkinson - who played main character Edmund Blackadder - about reuniting the old cast members including Sir Tony Robinson, Stephen Fry, Rik Mayall and Hugh Laurie to create a 'Dad's Army'-style motion picture. The pair have already discussed a detailed storyline, which will see the characters get kidnapped by a Nazi U-boat and end up in Colditz Castle prison camp. John explained: ''Rowan and I had this great idea, because we are all getting a bit old, of doing...

This week's comedy news
Comedian and actor Tim Allen is in a spot of bother this week. Specifically for telling the Tampa Bay Times that he should be able to say the n-word as much as he likes. "If I have no intent, if I show no intent, if I clearly am not a racist, then how can 'nigger' be bad coming out of my mouth?" asked Allen. The comic, who claimed to use the word regularly in his standup, added that "[the phrase] 'the n-word' is worse to me than nigger." African-American commentators politely but firmly disagreed. "Here's a general rule of thumb to follow when using the n-word for white people," said sociologist, author and radio host Michael Eric Dyson on MSNBC: "Never.

Comedian, actor, writer and director who came to prominence in satirical TV sketch show Not the Nine O'Clock News
Mel Smith was once upstaged by a talking gorilla. He was playing a zoologist in a sketch on his hit comedy show Not the Nine O'Clock News and the gorilla suit contained Rowan Atkinson. "When I caught Gerald in 68 he was completely wild," said Smith. "Wild?" retorted the gorilla. "I was absolutely livid!"
If the gorilla had the best line, Smith had the more expressive countenance, mugging with a deadpan virtuosity rarely seen since Oliver Hardy in his pomp. That face – as hangdog as his childhood hero Tony Hancock's – made Smith, who has died of a heart attack aged 60, one of the most recognisable of postwar British comedians.

London, August 2: A new research has suggested that Long John Silver's character in 'Treasure Island' was based on a Welsh adventurer in the West Indies.
Researchers said that Robert Louis Stevenson in his classic novel depicted the lives of Owen and John Lloyd, brothers born in the town of Rhuddlan, North Wales.
After investigating for more than 9 years, author John Amrhein has insisted that Stevenson's famous book was inspired by the brothers, who were born near the resort of Rhyl.

The Stephen Fry-fronted panel quiz aired on BBC Four and BBC Two from 2003 to 2008 before moving to BBC One in 2009 for the last three runs. No knighthoods for tabloid-backed stars, but Sheila Hancock, David Suchet and composer Howard Goodall make the list
Despite the best efforts of the tabloid press, there were no knighthoods for either Bruce Forsyth or Simon Cowell, but veteran actors Sheila Hancock and David Suchet were both awarded CBEs, as was the composer and broadcaster Howard Goodall. Representatives of the arts and media make up 7% of the honours list.
Harriet Walter, best known as a classical actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company – most recently as Cleopatra opposite Patrick Stewart's Antony and as Friedrich Schiller's Mary Stuart in the West End and on Broadway – is made a dame, 11 years after becoming a Cbe. Reacting to her award, Walter said: "I have reservations about some parts of the honours system. I fear it's not very fair and I think there are lots of people not recognised who should be." But she...

London, July 1 – A king of England and an earl of Leicester may be among the ancestors of Hollywood actress Brook Shields, an amateur genealogist has claimed.
Genealogist John Lloyd Marlow believes he has found a little-known connection between the actress and Simon de Montfort, the sixth earl of Leicester.
Through research on internet, the 73-year-old says he has also found links between the actress and King Edward III, whose fourth son, John of Gaunt lived in Leicester Castle.
Marlow said he used the website lagenealogy.net to find details of the actress’ heritage.

Last Sunday, a theater full of deeply devoted nostalgists/adventurers hunkered down for one of the greatest film trilogies of our lifetimes: the Back To The Future saga, presented by Fantastic Fest.
We had gorgeous new 35mm prints…we had a delicious 6-course feast…we had three (!!) Deloreans parked out in front of the Ritz…
It was beautiful.
But, in the tradition of the great scientific pioneers of yesteryear, we were compelled to reach out further into unexplored territory. We needed something spectacular to make the event absolutely unforgettable.
Then, at 11:31 Am, a fourth Delorean pulled up by the curb. The passenger door opened — vertically, of course — and out stepped Doc Brown himself, Christopher Lloyd. Here’s the News 8 Live footage of that incredible moment!
Mr. Lloyd introduced the event and followed Part 1 with a Q&A, where he casually expanded on the Bttf universe and made everyone wish...

If it doesn’t already, it should sadden you that Rowan Atkinson’s most well known role is Mr. Bean. Sure, attempting to remove your underwear in public has its comedic merit, but only if you’ve never seen Atkinson’s stupendously idiotic turn as the self-appointed Black Adder in the times of olde. The series spans different eras with each of the seasons taking place in a new one. Then, to further the adventures of the unfortunately inept title character, three of the specials created after the series’ conclusion are included on their own disc. It’s not the first “all inclusive” set to be released but it does a good job rounding up most of the extras that have been created for the show over time – though true Black Adder connoisseurs will notice that some of the smaller events (The Shakespeare Sketch in 1989 or the theatrical show Blackadder:...
