The latest Lifetime thriller from director David DeCoteau, Million Dollar Lethal Listing, is a topical look at the dangerous financial implications of home ownership, unequal incomes, and trusting your partner.
It’s clear early on that engaged couple Becca (Morgan Bradley) and Tom (Jon Briddell) don’t have a great relationship. She’s taken it upon herself to find them a home in between working “freelance” (in what field? It’s unclear) while he spends long hours at his law firm in an effort to make partner.
Becca’s friend Annie (Ciarra Carter) and her lawyer Meghan (Jackée Harry) are both wary of Tom. Meghan is pressing Becca to get a pre-nup because it makes financial sense to protect her sizeable half a million-dollar inheritance in the event of a divorce. Annie, meanwhile, doesn’t like how Becca loses her agency around her betrothed or how responsible she is for...

"I don't wanna be thinking, the whole time that I'm in New York, that she's spending all her free time with this other dude" An official trailer has debuted for an indie drama titled The Departure, which has been set for VOD release in June this summer. Before leaving Los Angeles to start a new job in New York, Nate, with the help of his best friend John, devises a wicked plan to test his girlfriend's loyalty. Worried about her interest in a coworker, he asks his friend to try and seduce her to see what will happen. Grant Gunderson stars as Nate, with Kendall Chappell playing his girlfriend Jessica, also joined by Austin Lauer, Olivia Lemmon, and Jon Briddell. The marketing info says this film will spark "dinner table conversation", of course. But it looks a bit too cheesy and a bit too obvious to pull off anything like that.

It’s difficult where to start with Warner Brothers rebooted feature of Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase, directed by Katt Shea. For all intents and purposes, it’s a harmless rendition of a young adult detective story targeted at that specific audience “young adult”. It’s not meant to be consumed by all manners and corners of cinema-goers and to that respect, it’s difficult to fault both the production and the final product of a film that’s the definition of harmless fun. However, that being said there are multiple issues that arise with this feature that was undoubtedly meant to premiere on the Disney Channel Network.

However, the film began with promise. Two hunters stalk the forest but are quickly turned to pray by an unseen monster. Some films are almost better experienced with a little bit of background knowledge. I know that goes against the idea of spoilers, but a little information about the plot or the characters can sometimes be the dash of hot sauce in the ramen noodles. It can set it apart from being collectively associated with a particular type of formulaic comfort genre that might have lost its flavor.
Case in point, when “Grabbers’ came out, knowing that being drunk was the only defense against the creatures, made me elevate it above any other contemporary creature flick that I had access to at the time. Then again, there are films, and in...

Actors Nicole Shipley and Atli Oskar Fjalarsson have been added to the cast of the upcoming thriller film Sable.
Shipley has been in several films (Club Lingerie, Guardians of The Galaxy, Jailbait) and Fjalarsson is an Icelandic actor that was written up in Variety as one of the rising stars from Europe.
When speaking about the actors, Director Michael Matteo Rossi told us "Having known Nicole for a few years now and having worked with her on a past film; I was indeed thrilled to have her come on board. After I cast Nicole, I thought of Atli (who I had met somewhat recently) to play the boyfriend and they had fantastic chemistry together on set and were a joy to work with. The interesting thing about both of them is that they are young stars truly on the rise and really added to the overall quality of the film.

Michael Matteo Rossi’s upcoming thriller feature Sable from InnoVate Productions (in association with Italian Cowboy Productions), has just wrapped principle filming and left us with some very intriguing stills of the movie.
Some of the screen grabs are very horroresque and even conjure up thoughts of "Saw" meets "Dexter" meets "The Shining". Check out some of the stills below the details.
The dark film stars Ayla Kell (Make it or Break it) as the title role, Jon Briddell (11/11/11), Chris Petrovski (Madam Secretary), Rodney Eastman (I Spit on your Grave) and BoJesse Christopher (Point Break) in a twisted story of revenge, redemption and one-upmanship.
Director/writer/producer Rossi tells us, “Sable at its core is a cautionary tale…it’s a showcase of what occurs when all the characters act on impulse and greed instead of pure logic. It makes for a pretty wild ride.”

You’d have to be living under a rock not to have experienced the ubiquitous hype surrounding the recent Valentine’s Day release of Fifty Shades of Grey, the film adaptation of E.L. James’s erotic novel of the same name.
Maybe you’re of the camp that sees Christian Grey as a brooding, romantic figure to fantasize about. Maybe you see Fifty Shades as disgusting, misogynistic trash that glorifies troublesome (but all too relevant) horrors like domestic abuse, stalking, and brainwashing. Whichever camp you hail from, it’s more than a little likely that you have strong opinions about the film, the characters, and the way the storyline addresses certain themes.
That’s exactly why I was intrigued when I first caught wind of Michael Matteo Rossi’s Misogynist.

The good thing about a movie called Misogynist is that viewers are already prepared to watch piggish male characters take advantage of vulnerable females, which prevents all the politically correct whistleblowers from sharpening their spears as the movie starts. Michael Matteo Rossi’s gender-exploiting thriller dares to challenge Fifty Shades Of Grey for anti-romantic dominance, and while it’s an ambitious attempt, sleek camerawork isn’t enough to save this rushed, underwhelming web of deception. Running at a brisk 77 minutes, Rossi struggles to pace what feels like only three short scenes glued together by some marshmallow fluff that’s lost its flavor. Misogynist is a bit of a premature squirt, leaving us as unsatisfied as the poor, mistreated women who are left with nothing but a regretful night and a story better forgotten.

Here at Dread Central we love women. Love them! They're the greatest thing about this horror genre we love. However, in the new film Misogynist that isn't the case for the lead character, Trevor. I hate him already!
Veteran actor Jon Briddell stars as Trevor in this dark drama/thriller that the film's writer/director/producer Michael Rossi describes as "American Psycho meets Fight Club". That's quite the comparison. Now we're definitely interested.
In addition to Briddell the film features Eve Mauro, Danielle Lozeau, and Tracey E. Bregman. For more info, "like" the official Misogynist Facebook page. And definitely check out the still and trailer below. Fuck Trevor.
Synopsis
Trevor is an extreme narcissist, misogynist, and borderline sociopath who holds underground "seminars" to teach young men the ways of controlling women. His best student, whom he treats like a son, is Harrison, a student of his ideology for the last three years.

Darren Lynn Bousman’s 11-11-11 isn’t the only film cashing in on a numerically gimmicky date next month. The Asylum has its own 11/11/11 movie hitting DVD shelves on November 1st, and the trailer has just premiered in all its devil child glory.
Jack and Melissa are frightened by their son's bizarre and violent behavior; they soon learn that he is the gateway to the Apocalypse, and it will happen on his birthday, 11-11-11.
Jon Briddell (Midnight Movie) stars alongside Erin Coker and Hayden Byerly. Keith Allan directs from a script he co-wrote with Kiff Scholl.
Here’s the trailer for 11/11/11. Doesn’t look too shabby. Needs more mega shark, but then what couldn’t be improved with more mega shark? Maybe next they can combine genres and give us a hell shark.

Here is your early warning that The Asylum will be trying to capitalize on another blockbuster release. This time Darren Lynn Bousman's 11-11-11 is being clearly copied to swindle wayward buyers out of their hard earned dollars. The Asylum's doppelganger this time is 11/11/11 and unbelievably, they have another title copying Bousman's film called 11/1/11. Notice the removal of one digit here folks. All three films involve themes of a spiritual apocalypse, with The Asylum's version much lower budgeted.
This reviewer would love to interview someone at The Asylum to find out how well these copies perform financially. Apparently they are successful as this film production and distribution company has created dozens of films that copy blockbustes. To test your film knowledge, try to identify the films copied in the following titles: Battle of Los Angeles, Paranormal Entity, Transmorphers, Titanic II, The Terminators and The Day the Earth Stopped. How well did yo do?...

As soon as I write a story about a few new Asylum movies, they have to go and update their website with the first production stills from their upcoming horror movie 11/11/11, not to be confused with Darren Lynn Bousman’s 11-11-11, though I suspect that might be part of the master plan.
As I wrote in the previous Asylum update, “Simply change a dash to a slash and you get The Asylum’s 11/11/11."

The Asylum has actually been on a roll lately with the wonderfully ludicrous 2012: Ice Age and the surprisingly decent Born Bad. Will the streak continue with a 3D ghost flick, more monster sharks, and a mockbuster with the exact same title as its theatrical counterpart?
We begin with A Haunting in Salem 3D, the latest 3D haunted house movie from The Asylum following 2009’s Haunting of Winchester House, a film I found to be as boring as its 3D was useless. Hopefully they improved things in both categories.
When the new sheriff of Salem, Massachusetts discovers that he is the victim of a centuries-old curse, he must protect his family from the vengeful ghosts that torment his home.
Paranormal Entity and Titanic II helmer Shane Van Dyke directs Bill Oberst, Jr., Courtney Abbiati, Jenna Stone, and Nicholas Harsin from a script by H. Perry Horton.
Look for A Haunting in Salem...

*full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by producer John Charles Meyer.
Director/writer: Kenneth Cran.
The Millenium Bug is an indie film from Kenneth Cran that deals with hillbillies, the Y2K and giant creatures living underground. No, this is not a hybrid of The Hills Have Eyes and Tremors, but something a little different. Set on December 31st, 1999, the day before Y2K, The Millenium Bug deals with some of the fears that came with a computing programming problem that was more anti-climactic, than anything else. Unfortunately, this film has a problem or two involving a weakly and awkwardly developed story. However, Cran's production team makes up for some of these weaknesses with stunning visuals. The sets, models and creature effects are all delivered with no CGI and the result is impressive. After the credits roll, despite the film's drawbacks, The Millenium Bug left this reviewer with a satisfied feeling.

The Millennium Bug is any monster movie fans breath of fresh air! A movie with a fun story, crazy characters, a giant monster, with lots of blood, gore and dismemberments, all without the use of CGI. Plus this is an indie film people! I’d put it up against any studio monster movie, period! Godzilla meet The Millennium Bug!
Writer and director Kenneth Cran definitely has an imagination with a much welcomed monster movie for a new generation! The movie follows the Haskins, escaping the Y2K scare as they head into the mountains. They meet up with a crazy, mutated, inbred hillbilly family who are set on brining in new blood to the family to limit the deformities from years of inbreeding. What we get with this family, the Crawfords is grotesque looks with killer instincts and lots of humor, yes this movie has just the right hint of humor in it!

Title: The Millennium Bug Writer-director: Kenneth Cran Starring: John Charles Meyer, Jessica Simmons, Christine Haeberman, Jon Briddell, Ken McFarlane, Ginger Pullman A world premiere presentation at the just underway Dances With Films festival, ‘The Millennium Bug’ boasts a simple, streamlined concept, and features poster art that strongly echoes Sam Raimi’s ‘The Evil Dead’, so one could be forgiven for prematurely celebrating the birth into the genre world of a groovy, gory and blissfully self-aware new creature feature. Unfortunately, writer-director Kenneth Cran’s film, while admirably incorporating some low-tech elements, never has any fun with its zonkers conceit, and even touches let alone rises above the sum of its cliched parts.
