The Bloody Disgusting Selects zombie period piece Exit Humanity has taken a bite out of Screambox.
Hailed as “not a movie, but a piece of cinema” by Fangoria, it features genre legends Dee Wallace (Cujo), Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects), and Stephen McHattie.
The film portrays a young man’s struggle to survive in the aftermath of an undead outbreak during the American Civil War. Heavily inspired by classic films such as Jeremiah Johnson and The Outlaw Josey Wales, Exit Humanity is a poetic tale told through the journal entries of its protagonist Edward Young.
The Canadian feature blends live-action and animation to explore deeper themes of fear, hope, redemption, and evil.
Starring horror icons Bill Moseley, Dee Wallace, Stephen McHattie, and new horror hero Mark Gibson, Exit Humanity is a zombie saga that tells the tale of the ultimate battle of good vs. evil. Brian Cox provides narration.

From directors Jesse Thomas Cook (Septic Man) and Matt Wiele (Exit Humanity), this horror comedy involves a "reality tv crew" and a series of condemned houses. In simpler times, Maggie would be a revolutionary zombie drama about the inevitable clutches of death that take hold after a victim becomes infected. But we live in a world where there’s not one, but Two shows based on Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead, plus we’ve had zombie period pieces (Fido/Exit Humanity), romantic zombie movies (Warm Bodies), child zombies (Cooties), and just about every other zombie movie incarnation you could dream up. So why do writer John Scott 3 and director Henry Hobson get a pass for their eerily human zombie tragedy? Easy: Arnold Schwarzenegger. And no, not ass-kicking Arnold, either. A sad, broken, helplessly distraught fatherly Arnold – which is a version of Arnold the world needs more of.

Hellmouth is the new one from Exit Humanity director, John Geddes. And writer of Pontypool, Tony Burgess. Hellmouth is a neo-noir horror tale, created with the usage of contrasting colors and other such visual techniques. Some would say that this is in the style of Sin City, which is helped along by the fact that the first third of the film is black and white, with a few traces of color. Personally, I would compare it to Dark Country before Sin City, but I’m one of only 5 people that bothered to see that nice little piece of horror-pulp starring Thomas Jane, so Sin City is probably a more accessible approach to explaining the style to expect. What I’m saying is, a lot of detail is focused on creating the visual style of the world, and it makes for a stunning experience. There are a few frightening scenes along the way.

Friday was Day Two of Toronto After Dark 2014, and the theater was packed for both of the evenings screenings. Hellmouth had its World Premiere, ABCs Of Death 2 had its Toronto Premiere, and the sold out crowds were cheering and ready for both movies. It’s kind of a big deal that both of these screenings sold out, as that means that the first four consecutive films at this year’s festival were completely full. I believe that is a new Tadff record. The festival certainly has grown over the last 8 years, and it’s exciting to watch as more and more films sell out with each iteration.
The night kicked off with Pupa, an anime-style animated mindfuck of a short film that was both entertaining and bizarre. It certainly was a great match for Hellmouth, which is about as Wtf-inducing as they come (more on that in minute), so...

I’m swamped with life, and movies/TV that I Have to watch, so my recreational October horror movie consumption is taking a hit. Slow week, for me. Oh, well, soon Exhumed Films 24 Hour Horror-Thon will be upon us, and I will be inside of a theater with movies on-film playing continuously for 24 straight hours. That should even me out. We have a mixed bag this week, including the new episode of The Walking Dead, which I am told is being counted.
The Walking Dead – Season 5, episode 1 “No Sanctuary” Sunday, October 12th – 66 minutes – 2 pts
Love it or hate it, The Walking Dead is here to stay. I’m one of the ones that love it, and this episode was one of the best of the entire series. Tons of action, and formerly-weak characters being total badasses. They didn’t meander, or spend an entire season setting up how the group would escape Terminus.

Imagine the messiest bathroom you’ve ever seen. Now imagine it 100 times more disgusting and even then it probably doesn’t equal the horrendous confines of the restroom in the opening scene of Septic Man, due out later this month from Starz Digital Media. We have a clip featuring a bile-inducing bathroom that could be a plumber’s private hell.
“Septic Man follows Jack, a sewage worker who is determined to uncover the cause of the town’s water contamination crisis. During his investigation, he becomes trapped underground in a septic tank and undergoes a hideous transformation. He must team up with a docile Giant and confront a murdering madman in order to escape. Hailed as a “stunning” (Little Red Umbrella), “funny” (TwitchFilm), and “visceral story that will leave you shaken and desperate for a shower” (Rue Morgue Magazine), Septic Man is an odyssey into the darkest depths of gross-out horror.

The latest from writer Tony Burgess (Pontypool, Septic Man), Ejecta has just debuted its first trailer and poster. The Sci-fi thriller is described as such:
Ejecta is the story of two men who witness an unexplainable event in the atmosphere on the eve of a historic solar storm and must survive a terrifying life form that's hunting them. An anonymous group will stop at nothing to unearth the truth behind what happened to the men that night and prove to the world that we were never alone in the universe.
Written by Tony Burgess, the madman behind PontyPool and Septic Man, Ejecta stars the always exceptional Julian Richings (Man of Steel, Supernatural), Lisa Houle (PontyPool) as well as Adam Seybold (Exit Humanity).
An ode to the 80's lo-fi sci-fi era, the film's poster, effects and electronic score pay homage to a classic time in the genre's history while focusing on...

Anchor Bay Canada scooped up Foresight Features' sci-fi thriller Ejecta, which comes our way courtesy of co-directors Chad Archibald and Matt Wiele, at the tail end of last year. Genrebending films are always interesting and sometimes fun. The blending of Westerns and zombie films has been particularly active across the indie film circuit with films like Devils Crossing and Exit Humanity releasing in just the last few years. GallowWalkers takes the zombie western into the big budget (reportedly 17 Million) and named actor (Wesley Snipes) realm and adds the elements of action film and science fiction to the equation.

Pontypool writer Tony Burgess reunites with Pontypool star Stephen McHattie for more terror in Hellmouth. If talented writers directors and actors are enough to convince you something special waits on the horizon then youre probably up in arms for this announcement. Exit Humanity while working the slow burn effect extensively is a fun little period piece in which the focal characters suddenly face a zombie apocalypse. It may be slow but its a quality piece of cinema. And Pontypool well its hard to say enough good things about this one the most original zombie tale to hit the market in decades Definitely a fair assessment. Its also an outrageously creepy flick that exercises psychological terror in uncanny fashion.
