This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
Like its predecessor X-Men: The Animated Series, X-Men ’97 remixes classic stories from X-Men comics to make them more palatable for television. But X-Men ’97 is also very much a continuation of Tas, returning to stories and themes that first aired almost three decades ago.
So it’s no surprise that season one showrunner Beau De Mayo has suggested that fans go back to a few classic Tas episodes ahead of the three-part X-Men ’97 finale, titled “Tolerance Is Extinction.” De Mayo points to the following story arcs specifically: “One Man’s Worth Parts 1 and 2,” “Sanctuary Parts 1 and 2,” “Descent,” and “The Final Decision.”
Beau DeMayo says the following episodes of the original X-Men animated series are worth rewatching to prepare for the 3-part finale 'Tolerance Is Extinction'. #XMen97

Marvel’s X-Men ’97 was filled with unexpected twists and turns, yet it has been one glorious ride for all Marvel fans. After years of having a love-hate relationship with Fox’s X-Men movies, fans were hopeful that Marvel Studios would bring them a more comic-book-faithful version of the mutants after Disney acquired Fox.

Not only is X-Men ’97 faithful to the source but its nostalgic theme and ties with the original X-Men: The Animated Series make it one hell of a show to watch. With the season one finale approaching fast, creator and showrunner Beau DeMayo took to his X account to share a bit of assignment for fans of the show.
In his recent tweet, DeMayo revealed that every fan of the mutant tale should prep and watch these 6 episodes of X-Men: The Animated Series before watching the 3-part season finale, Tolerance is Extinction.

"The Fugitive" ran for four seasons on ABC from 1963 to 1967. The series followed Dr. Richard Kimble (David Janssen), a (you guessed it) fugitive accused of murdering his wife. Pursued across the country by lawman Philip Gerard (Barry Morse), he tries to prove his innocence by finding the real killer.
On one hand, "The Fugitive" is as episodic as you'd expect from a 1960s TV show. Each episode features Kimble in a different town with a new problem to solve. The backstory is also told via title sequence; the first episode, "Fear in a Desert City," is just another adventure for Kimble, not the murder, trial, and Kimble's escape the way it would be today. However, there's also some serialization with the story threads of Gerard hunting Kimble and Kimble hunting the real murderer, a one-armed man (Bill Raisch). These reach their conclusion in the finale, "The Judgment."

Hidetaka Miyazaki is easily one of the most successful video game directors in recent times. His games never disappoint, and the stories in those games are never lacking in detail. Players can simply roam around the worlds that he creates and experience a bunch of exciting new stories, just through the environments or item descriptions.
His games have such expansive lore that gamers spend hours just digging through them in search of new details. One can be sure of one thing: stories with such depth can only be written by a person who himself has read a lot. While Hidetaka Miyazaki does not deny reading a lot, he suggests he went through a somewhat tough childhood before getting where he is.
Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki’s life is indeed pretty inspirational
A still from Demon Souls Remake
Demon Souls had an interesting premise: a godlike creature taking over the world.

"X-Men '97" is bringing the marvelous mutant heroes back to the small screen like they never left it, picking up right after the original series finale, "Graduation Day." Since that aired, the show's '90s setting has gone from contemporary to period piece.
The long-awaited trailer for "X-Men '97" debuted on February 15, 2024, and there's plenty to discuss even with less than 2 minutes of footage. For one, we've now finally seen the series' animation style, which brings modern shading and three-dimensionality to the original's classic cartoon look.
Much of the original voice cast is back (even if they only get a line each to show it), while Ray Chase and Matthew Waterson sound uncanny as Cyclops and Magneto. I'll admit I've been skeptical of "X-Men '97" before now — I've never been a huge fan of the original (the production values were quite low and often off-putting). Plus, the X-Men's world is so vast,...

In The Heirloom, a couple facing lockdown decide to adopt a pet. It’s wintertime in Toronto, and Eric and Allie are chipping away at their Covid-restricted lives. Eric, a screenwriter, has hit a block. Together they goof around until Allie eventually asks the eternal question: why don’t we get a dog? Heirloom is the first feature of Ben Petrie, who is credited as director, editor, writer, and producer. He also stars in the film alongside his longtime creative partner Grace Glowicki, who also co-produced it––making The Heirloom not quite a Petrie-dish. What’s more, they have to share the screen with Milly, an auburn whippet rescue dog from the Dominican Republic whose cautious eyes and darting movements often steal the show.
Much like Milly, Petrie’s film works itself into a charmingly anxious mood. With few distractions, and some reason to procrastinate, Eric and Allie begin obsessing.

My first impression of Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale was that this might be a low-budget British version of Big Little Lies, only with the inclusion of witches, but I was very wrong. This show will transport you back to the early 2000s with the way it’s made, the styling, and the way some of the themes of the show are addressed. In this world, “Sanctuary” is a safe haven for witches, who can live as registered individuals freely and safely. The show begins with an incident that takes place six years ago, where somebody got seriously wounded before Sarah, the resident witch, made a cut on her hand to cast a spell and save that person. We don’t see who this is, but by the end of the first two episodes of Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale, we will learn who it was and what happened to them eventually.

While its title and its availability on AMC+ (in addition to Sundance Now) might suggest otherwise, Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale is less akin to Interview With the Vampire or Mayfair Witches than to crime dramas like Big Little Lies or Mare of Easttown — albeit with less prestige gloss and more janky CG. Though that comparison doesn’t feel quite right, either.
What’s most memorable about the series is neither its supernatural elements, which are only vaguely explained, nor even really its central murder mystery. It’s the clear and unsparing portrait of its villain, a woman who weaponizes her genuine grief over the death of her son into a literal witch hunt, with shocking and horrifying results.
Upon first glance, Sanctuary looks every inch the Edenic retreat suggested by its name, a cluster of picturesque homes nestled amid rolling green hills. During a picnic for new neighbors, Sarah (Elaine Cassidy...

Universal's "Wolf Man" remake, a project that's long remained in various stages of development over the years, is finally rounding into shape. Last we heard, the film was going to star Ryan Gosling as the eponymous Universal monster with "The Place Beyond the Pines" filmmaker Derek Cianfrance in the director's chair, taking over for original director Leigh Whannell (who had proven himself as a brilliant fit in this new Monster-verse with his 2020 reimagining of "The Invisible Man") after the latter departed due to scheduling conflicts. Well, I hope you weren't too invested in that news because it seems the studio has gone back to the drawing board and emerged with an even more exciting version of the movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Whannell has found his way back to the production and will once again direct the feature ... with a new leading man in place. Gosling is the...

The erotic thriller is back, and you'd have to be a prudish killjoy to lament its return.
The subgenre has its roots in the pre-code movies of the 1920s, and '30s, and films noir of the '40s and '50s, but the formula as it exists today was codified in 1980 with Paul Schrader's "American Gigolo" and, most vitally, Brian De Palma's "Dressed to Kill". And thanks to Karina Longworth's deep dive into best and worst of the subgenre via her indispensable podcast "You Must Remember This," younger viewers who weren't there for the '80s and '90s heyday are now revisiting the stylish highs and Skinemax lows of films in which people occasionally take a break from screwing to commit a string of murders (or investigate said murders with alarming aloofness).

Don't let the title fool you: "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" isn't the only one of her kind. The "Slayer" line goes back millennia, and when one falls, another young girl is called on by destiny. In the season 1 finale, "Prophecy Girl," Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) briefly dies but is revived. The writers took advantage of that technicality in season 2 to introduce another slayer, Kendra (Bianca Lawson) — but she met a swift end.
Enter Faith Lehane (no relation to Dennis) in season 3, played by Eliza Dushku and sharing her actress' Boston origins. Her name is a virtue, but Faith is a rebel — so much so, she bounces from ally to enemy and then back again. In an interview with "Buffy" writers and producers, they discussed how, from the beginning, Faith was meant to be a "psycho" Slayer who would be a foil for Buffy. [Editor’s note: The following story contains spoilers for “Fair Play,” in addition to spoilers for “The Devil Wears Prada,” “A Star Is Born,” “Working Girl,” “Don’t Worry Darling,” and “Sanctuary.”]
In the gendered zero-sum game of love, money, and professional success, Chloe Domont’s “Fair Play” is a rallying cry for women in uneven — and downright competitive — romantic relationships with men.
The Sundance breakout film, which Netflix landed in a $20 million deal this January, stars Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich as would-be finance world power couple Emily and Luke. The only issue: They’re both analysts at the same investment firm, and there’s just one project manager job up for the taking. While Luke is rumored to be the replacement, Emily actually lands the promotion, prompting Luke to question his role at the firm and in their bed.

Netflix added another title to its rapidly expanding Japan live-action originals slate Wednesday with the announcement of the romantic drama series Beyond Goodbye.
The series is an original story by prolific Japanese screenwriter Yoshikazu Okada (Bl Metamorphosis, The Last 10 Years). It co-stars Kasumi Arimura, known for the Japanese blockbuster We Made a Beautiful Bouquet and the Netflix feature Call Me Chihiro, and Kentaro Sakaguchi, a TV drama regular and recent star of the feature drama success The Last 10 Years (2022).
The film tells the story of Saeko (Arimura), who suddenly loses her fiance Yusuke in a tragic traffic accident. As she tries to overcome her grief, she meets Naruse (Sakaguchi), a man who strangely reminds her of Yusuke. Little does she know that Naruse had received Yusuke’s heart a few months prior to their encounter — a heart still in love and holding all the memories of Yusuke and Saeko’s relationship.

Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff are officially in it for the long haul. The pair married Aug. 19, a little over a year after announcing their engagement in May 2022. But the music producer isn't the first public figure Qualley has dated over the years. She was once in a relationship with Nat Wolff, and she and Pete Davidson also dated at one point. Qualley's mom, Andie MacDowell, even gave Davidson her stamp of approval at the time.
Just like she's taken her relationship status to the next level, Qualley's professional life has also blossomed over the past few years. Early roles in "Palo Alto" and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" helped kickstart her career, and she received an Emmy nomination in 2022 for her performance in "Maid." This May, she starred as a dominatrix in "Sanctuary" alongside Christopher Abbott, and in 2024 she'll star with Geraldine Viswanathan, Beanie Feldstein, and Pedro Pascal in the film "Drive-Away Dolls.

Everyone wants to be rid of painful memories from the past, but no matter how hard we try to conceal them, the memories won’t just disappear. Shizuuchi, an unstoppable wrestler in the Japanese sports drama Sanctuary, dwelt on such horrific memories for a long period of time. The memories of Shizuuchi and the root cause of his introverted, depressed appearance have been effectively shown in the series.
Shizuuchi was a small boy when his father abandoned him. Their mother had raised him and his younger brother all by herself. His mother wasn’t an ideal parent since she was a heavy drinker who frequently took out her frustrations on her boys. Shizuuchi’s entire youth had been spent in anguish without an ideal environment in the house where he could feel secure and comfortable. Shizuuchi’s mother was ostracized by the community, maybe because she was a single mother,...

Kiyoshi Oze, a young lad from Fukoaka, won the Sumo Jonokuchi category and has joined Okayata Ensho’s stable to battle in the forthcoming tournaments. While Enno had impressive talent in wrestling, he wasn’t a big fan of consistent practice. His arrogant personality was another factor that was hurting his chances of success. However, over time and after a few tournament victories, Enno realized that only winning the tournaments wasn’t necessary, as he would also have to win the hearts of his spectators as well. Although Enno’s unusual and intimidating persona was entertaining to watch on television, the series aimed to show a shift in Enno’s behavior during his career as a wrestler, conveying the message that all it takes to be an ideal...
