The Asian Project Market, the film financing event attached to the Busan festival’s Asian Contents & Film Market, will return this year as an in-person event. To increase the focus on regional projects it has selected 29 titles and excluded those from outside Asia.
The Apm will be held at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (Bexco) and run Oct. 9-11, 2022. The Busan International Film Festival runs Oct 5-14.
Organizers say that thematically the selection – made from 288 projects submitted – highlights women filmmakers and the return of a handful of Busan festival alumni. The selection also finds house room for nine projects from South Korea.
The Apm prizes awarded to be awarded on Oct. 11 will also be “more diverse.” They include a newly-established Taicca Award and the Vipo Award, sponsored by Taiwan Creative Content Agency and Japan’s Visual Industry Promotion Organization respectively, which will pay out 10,000 to support film development. It’s an awfully long way from Louisiana to the Isle of Lewis in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, but for Richie Adams, it was a journey worth taking. The American filmmaker, previously best known for U.S.-set indies “Of Mind and Music” and “Inventing Adam,” has made the most expansive, ambitious film of his career in “The Road Dance.”
Appropriately having its world premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival, the film is a sweeping rural melodrama centered on first love, the horrors of war and patriarchal oppression in a small Scottish village some years before the First World War. The change of pace has unleashed a burst of creative energy in Adams, who has two new features — an adaptation of the nonfiction book “Mr. Townsend and the Polish Prince” and an original screenplay, “Pedro Pan” — written and, in his words, “ready to go.”

Exclusive: CNN's 'The Nineties' Examines 'The Real World' Phenomenon That Changed Reality TV Forever
CNN's new original series, The Nineties, from executive producer Tom Hanks, peels back the curtain on the decade's most iconic television shows.
In Et's exclusive sneak peek from the series premiere, the seven-part series takes a deeper look into The Real World phenomenon, which took the world by storm in 1992 on MTV and changed reality TV for good.
According to The Real World executive producer Jonathan Murray, MTV was looking to do a scripted program about young people. But after discovering that it was too expensive, they decided to apply the rules for a drama series to a documentary -- and hence, the "docu-soap" was born!

"Still Alice" is a moving film that showcases the immense talent of Julianne Moore; the movie is written and directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland, a couple with a previous run of quirky Independent films like 2013's "The Last of Robin Hood" or 2008's "Pedro," which played the Toronto Film Festival that year.
The film is about characters dealing with early-onset Alzheimer's disease, a horrifying condition when a person loses not only their faculties, but a major part of who they are as they descend into dementia.
Sounds cheery...
Well, this is indeed a tear-jerker, but to its credit the film isn't all about manipulation of emotions as we drive towards the inevitable conclusion. I can't speak to the source material, the 2007 book by Lisa Genova that Westomoreland and Glatzer based their script on, but the narrative does do more than engage in disease porn. There's some lovely character moments amongst the family members,...

What started as a novel concept – seven strangers picked to live in a house to find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real –when The Real World first premiered on MTV has become a new reality altogether.
“When we started this back in ’92, none of us had any idea it would continue even maybe past the first season,” creator Jonathan Murray (aka the “Father of Reality TV”) tells ETonline.
In the 29 seasons since Murray and production partner Mary-Ellis Bunim created the show, reality TV has evolved from sticking cameras in people’s faces into a highly conceptualized form of entertainment with people stranded on island, battling it out for a million dollars and California girls blurring the lines between reality and scripted television.

It's been a good, long while since The Real World resembled the initial conceit that picked seven strangers to live in a house and have their lives taped to find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real. The last half dozen seasons have been more interested in the drama that arises from bed and bar-hopping, with each subsequent round of houseguests looking less and less like the thoughtful men and women I came to love and identify with through the first nine seasons (or perhaps I've simply aged out of the target demo and the show is a terrifying, but accurate, representation of today's twentysomethings).

Misfiring Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has reportedly drawn interest from Spanish champions Barcelona, According to the London Evening Standard.
And the Catalans will be hoping to sign the Spaniard for a cut-price £17 million – less than half of the £50 million the Blues shelled out on the striker when they signed him from Liverpool in a British transfer-record-breaking deal in 2011.
Newly-appointed Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who is returning for a second spell at Stamford Bridge, is set to hold talks with the striker within the coming weeks and will respect whatever decision the forward makes over his future.
However, should Torres leave for Barcelona, it will only be as a substitute, according to the Mirror.
The 29-year old has only scored one league goal this year and Barca will be hoping they can convince him to swap the Chelsea bench for theirs, and intend for him to play the role of a goal-scoring super-sub.

Defending European Champions Spain advanced to the Semi-Finals after sweeping aside a lacklustre France team.
Xabi Alonso’s fourteenth and fifteenth international goals on his 100th cap helped Spain go against tradition and beat France in the knock-out stages of a major tournament.
The Real Madrid midfielder headed home the first goal after 19 minutes before scoring a late penalty following Anthony Reveillere’s clumsy challenge on Pedro Rodriguez.
The Spanish started with the same eleven that opened their campaign against Italy, preferring Cesc Fabregas to Fernando Torres.
After days of unsettled behaviour in the French camp, Laurent Blanc opted to make three changes to try and deal with the fluent Spanish. Mathieu Debuchy was moved to the right wing as Reveillere dropped in behind him at right back. Yohan Cabaye and Florent Malouda were started ahead of Samir Nasri (possible knee injury) and Alou Diarra. While Philippe Mexes was suspended,...

One of our favorite mantras around the AfterElton offices is “because visibility matters.” Indeed, the idea that gay and bisexual men need to be visible, both to ourselves and to the wider culture, is one of the principle reasons AfterElton.com even exists. After all, it is only by being visible to family, friends and the world that we’ve been able to overcome the stereotypes and bigotry used to justify discrimination against the Glbt community.
That quest for visibility explains why we have done so many polls including the AfterElton Hot 100, the Fifty Greatest Gay Movies, the Top 50 Gay TV Characters, and the 50 Best Gay Books. After all, it’s not as if Entertainment Weekly is going to ask gay and bisexual men which guys we think are the hottest, which movies mean the most to us or, in the case of our latest poll, which celebrities we most admire.

Things are certainly looking up for "The Social Network" actor Armie Hammer. The super-tall 24-year old nabbed himself one sweet supporting role in Clint Eastwood's biopic entitled "J. Edgar," where he'll be playing the role of the lawyer-turned-fbi official Clyde Tolson who supposedly had a bit of a love affair with J. Edgar Hoover. Surely there are some women who are salivating over the thought of having Hammer in a role like that. "J. Edgar" is written by Dustin Lance Black and stars Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role. Warner Bros is attached as distributor with Imagine Entertainment and Malpaso Productions part of the project as co-producers. Dustin Lance Black's previous written work includes "Milk," "Pedro" and several episodes of the hit HBO series "Big Love." Principal photography for "J. Edgar" is set to begin early next year with no scheduled release date at the moment.Anyways, what...

Looks like we were on to something when we suggested that Matt Kindt's "3 Story: The Secret History of the Giant Man" should be adapted. The book was optioned as a feature film by Warner Brothers this week.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Milk" screenwriter Dustin Lance Black has signed on to direct and write the adaptation of "3 Story." Dark Horse Entertainment's Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg will produce the film, along with Lynn Harris and Matthew Milam.
Black has previously written the screenplays for "Pedro," "Something Close To Heaven" and the upcoming biopic "Hoover" for director Clint Eastwood. Black also served as a writer and producer on the HBO series "Big Love" and made his directorial feature debut with "What's Wrong with Virginia," which is expected to be released later this year.

Warner Bros has acquired the movie rights to Matt Kindt's graphic novel 3 Story: The Secret History of the Giant Man, which is published by Dark Horse Comics. HeatVision is reporting that the studio has already signed Dustin Lance Black, the Oscar-winning writer of Milk, to pen and direct the adaptation. Publisher's Weekly describes the story as being "a modern fable, exploring the life of the giant man, Craig Pressgang, through the experiences of three women—his mother, wife and daughter." The story chronicles Craig's journey from birth to his growth to over three stories tall. Black's take will focus on "the father-daughter relationship and soften the melancholic ending." Sounds like a risky but possibly artful project. Black's other screenwriting credits include 2008's Pedro, a biopic of the Pedro Zamora, episodes of Big Love, and Clint Eastwood's next film Hoover. He wrote and directed What's Wrong With Virginia, which stars...

As hard as it may be to believe sometimes, someone (or someones) actually sits down and writes a movie or TV show before you end up seeing it at your local multiplex or on your favorite TV network. The people who do the sitting and the writing are, surprisingly, called writers and, like the Directors, the Golden Globes and the Oscars, they have their own awards show.
This week, the Writers Guild of America, which is the trade group and advocate for writers, announced its nominations for outstanding achievement in feature film and television, radio, news, promotional writing, and graphic animation during the 2009 season to be honored at the upcoming 2010 Writers Guild Awards on February 20, 2010, in Los Angeles and New York.
We realize that these nominations may not be as glamorous as the Golden Globes or the Oscars, but we kinda like writers around here and think they do a pretty important job.

Several usual suspects -- "30 Rock," "Mad Men," "The Office," "The Simpsons" -- picked up multiple nominations for the 2010 Writers Guild of America Awards -- but a couple of new shows broke through too.
"Glee" and "Modern Family" are both up for best comedy and best new series at the guild's awards, which will be presented Feb. 20. "Modern Family" also picked up an episodic comedy nomination for its pilot, written by series creators Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd.
The other comedy series nominees are "30 Rock," "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "The Office." For drama series, the contenders are "Breaking Bad," "Dexter," "Friday Night Lights," "Lost" and "Mad Men." Someone from "The Simpsons" will win in the animation category, as its writers swept all five nominations.
Below is a partial list of the nominees in the TV and radio categories (movie nominations will be announced later). The complete list is at WGA.org.

Awards heavyweights "Mad Men," "30 Rock" and "The Office" and buzzed-about newcomer "Modern Family" led the TV field for the 2010 Writers Guild Awards with three nominations each.
AMC's "Mad Men" and NBC's "30 Rock" and "The Office" are in the running for best drama/comedy series, and each received two nominations for episodic writing. "Family" made the cut for best comedy series, best new series and best episodic writing for a comedy series.
ABC's "Family" was one of two new shows to break into the best series categories along with Fox's quirky high-school dramedy "Glee," which faces "Family" in the best comedy series and best new series fields.
While the WGA Awards are still in its nomination phase, Fox's "The Simpsons" can already uncork the champagne. The veteran series is assured to win the animation category after landing all five nomination slots.

The original reality show broke ground with Pedro.
On November 11, 1994, the day after the final episode of The Real World: San Francisco aired, Pedro Zamora succumbed to complications from AIDS. Most of the world had only known him since June of that year, but the 22-year-old had made the most of the short time he’d spent on earth.
Born in Cuba, raised in Miami, Pedro was diagnosed as HIV+ while still in high school, and had dedicated his life to being an educator on the disease. Prior to appearing on the groundbreaking MTV reality show, he had already spoken about the disease with Oprah Winfrey, Phil Donahue, and before a session of Congress.
But it was by appearing on The Real World: San Francisco that he managed to have a global impact. For many young people, Pedro was the first real, out gay man they ever saw...

This week's new DVDs include looks back at two TV pioneers—a gay man with AIDS who made everyone in America feel like they knew someone fighting the disease and a small-screen legend in two specials that have been unavailable to fans for more than 30 years.

The made-for-tv Pedro makes its way to DVD this week, boasting a script by Milk Oscar-winner Dustin Lance Black. It could be argued that both films slightly suffer from the impossibility of finding an actor to be as charismatic as the real-life person depicted—especially when that person has been extensively captured on film in real life—but Alex Loynaz takes a valiant stab at portraying Pedro Zamora, the AIDS activist whose stint on MTV's The Real World made him one of pop culture's most visible gay men. The film definitely benefits from producers Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland (Quinceañera...

Lauded Milk and Pedro screenwriter Dustin Lance Black has topped this year's power list of gay people old enough to remember when Nickelodeon shared a channel with A&E yet just a tiny bit too young to have been potential Thalidomide babies.
And thank God for that, because look at them pipes!
I'm a fan of Black's work, but I'm even more of a fan of when I get to see him not wrapped in a tuxedo and burdened with the weight of the entire gay visibility movement on live, national television. I just like to see people comfy!
For the full list, head on over to the Advocate's website. (And don't bother scouring the list for my name, because I look waaay older than I really am and I'm sure they just figured I was out of range and I'm gonna just cry a little now k? K.)...

While the number of gay/bisexual characters on scripted television has, at best, held steady over the past decade (and doesn’t exactly represent the diversity of gay men in the real world), it’s a different story when it comes to the depiction of gay men on reality television. Indeed, along with the explosion of reality programming has come a dramatic increase in the numbers and types of gay and bisexual men appearing on our television screens.
From the groundbreaking appearance of Pedro Zamora on The Real World: San Francisco to the current seasons of The Amazing Race, Survivor: Tocantins, and Make Me a Supermodel, there is a breadth of gay men that is quite frankly astounding.
In fact, there have now been so many gay and bisexual men on reality television that we decided to let AfterElton.com readers choose their favorites of all time. Here...

Fifteen years after his death, the network that brought the voice of openly gay Cuban-American AIDS educator Pedro Zamora to the world is once again celebrating his work and legacy. On April 1st MTV and several of its affiliates (including Logo, the parent company of AfterElton.com) will be broadcasting Pedro, a biopic of the beloved reality star.
And while the film may lack the polish, star power or distinct narrative voice of Oscar-winning brother-in-arms Milk, Pedro pays earnest tribute to a man who shattered preconceptions about gay people and people living with AIDS in millions of homes in America and beyond.
Much like Milk (both scripts come from Academy Award-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black), Pedro introduces us to its subject near the end of his life, in a moment of reflection. It is 1994, and Zamora (played by relative newcomer Alex Loynaz), at the height of his Real World fame,...

Chicago – The legacy of Oscar winners following their wins with horrible career choices is long and well-recorded. Perhaps the best piece of news about this year’s Academy Award winners is that they are unlikely to produce a “Snow Dogs,” “Gothika,” or “Aeon Flux” any time soon. The upcoming projects for 2009 Academy Award winners is a more promising slate than most years.
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Photo credit: Reel Movie News Of course, the most well-documented post-Oscar career choice for this year’s winners is that of “The Dark Knight“‘s Heath Ledger, who will have only one more film released, Terry Gilliam’s “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”. From the visionary director of “Brazil” and “Twelve Monkeys,” “Parnassus” will be the epilogue for Ledger’s filmography, another brief glimpse at this excellent actor who left us far too soon.

An underdog movie about a little guy overcoming life's enormous obstacles swept the Oscars Sunday night, as Slumdog Millionaire racked up eight Academy Awards, including those for Best Picture and for its Director, Danny Boyle. But it was not underdog Mickey Rourke (for The Wrestler) who took the Best Actor Oscar. That honor went to Sean Penn, for Milk, in which he played 1970s gay activist Harvey Milk. "I did not expect this, and I know how hard I make it to appreciate me, often," Penn said in his impassioned acceptance speech – in which he also acknowledged his fellow nominee,...

Pedro Zamora, Alex Loynaz
The inspiring and heartbreaking life of Pedro Zamora has made it to the big screen in a new bio-pic, with help from a few out Hollywood big-wigs.
Pedro (who's certain to rank high on our Favorite Gay Reality Stars poll, which closes tomorrow!) learned he was HIV-Positive at age seventeen, and spent the rest of his life trying to educate young people about the disease. His appearance on MTV's The Real World: San Francisco in 1994 was groundbreaking, and when he died the day after the final episode aired, it was a shock to all of us who had become enamored of his sweet smile and gentle personality.
Pedro stars newcomer Alex Loynaz in the title role, and focuses on his Cuban family, his relationship with partner Sean, and his close friendship with Real World housemates Judd and Pam.

Berlin -- Richard Loncraine's "My One and Only," a '50s-era comedy starring Renee Zellweger and Kevin Bacon, was squeezed into the competition lineup for this year's Berlin International Film Festival, barely a week before the event kicks off.
Zellweger plays a glamorous single mom on the hunt for a rich man to foot the bill for her and her sons' lifestyle. Produced by Merv Griffith Entertainment and Ray Gun Prods., "My One and Only" will have its world premiere in Berlin. Essential Entertainment is handling international sales.
Berlin also added Lone Scherfig's Sundance favorite "An Education" with Peter Sarsgaard, Alfred Molina and Emma Thompson and Davis Guggenheim's music documentary "It Might Get Loud" for its Berlinale Special Galas, ensuring the films will get the red carpet treatment without any of the pressure of competition.
