We may very well be in the middle of one of the greatest career renaissances in recent memory. M. Night Shyamalan is a filmmaker who started off his career with a bang. The Sixth Sense is still a flick that is highly relevant in the pop culture zeitgeist, and Shyamalan went to follow up that strong film with Unbreakable and Signs, proving that he was no one-hit wonder.
Of course, you can’t bring up Shyamalan without also bringing up the slump he fell into. There may be some debate as to when it started. Some say it started with Signs, some say The Village, but most can agree that his work started to get universally panned around the time of Lady in the Water. From The Happening through After Earth, it wasn’t clear if he would ever come back as the same creative force as he once was.

Most filmmakers spend the duration of a career emphasizing one walk of life over the infinite others, but occasionally there is an artist who seeks the truth through universality: the common thread that unifies a Mexican intersection, a Moroccan village, or an American theatre into a snapshot of what it truly means to be alive. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu is one such artist, pursuing the crevices of the human soul for nearly twenty years, and doggedly striving to capture fear, hope, and mortality on the silver screen. Some label it pessimistic cinema, but in the words of Iñárritu idol Oscar Wilde, “A pessimist is nothing but a well informed optimist.”
Starting his own production company in the 1990s, the Mexico City native would spend much of the decade churning out advertisements and short films – many of which, including Detras del Dinero (1995) and El Timbre (1996), provided glimpses of the director’s penchant for humanized drama.

This summer’s blockbuster N.W.A biopic, Straight Outta Compton, will be getting two new soundtrack releases in early 2016. Knee Deep Act 1: Wonderland released on Steam on July 6th to great fanfare within a few niche circles of the gaming community, and a few criticisms from adventure game fans. Developer Prologue Games have doubled down on the criticisms of the first part, and in Knee Deep Act 2: Festival, they’ve done everything they can to polish up the series and fix the minor niggles to make the second entry something truly special. For the most part, their efforts have worked.
Knee Deep takes you to the town of Cypress Knee. A backwater, redneck stereotype in the bayous of Florida, you take on the role of three very distinct characters. Hipster blogger, Romana Teaque, beleaguered newspaper journnalist Jack Bellet, and private investigator K.C Gaddis. Knee Deep Act 1: Wonderland is part one of a trio of narrative-driven adventure titles from indie developer Prologue Games. While Telltale has long had a stranglehold on the adventure genre, Knee Deep is entirely unique in its style, harking back to the glory days of classic adventure games like Grim Fandango and the Monkey Island series. While the variation in its text-heavy, pulpy world isn’t always successful, it’s different enough that you should stand up and take note.
Knee Deep takes place in the murky depths of the Florida bayou, in a sleepy little backwater town called Cypress Knee. The town is as much a character as the central trio you play as, who are markedly different but all there for just one reason – to find the truth. The story opens with the death of Tag Kern, a Hollywood celebrity and eccentric who had converted to the cult-like Church of Us.

Patrick Wolf will score a new Noel Coward biopic.
B Good Picture Company's film based on the early life of Coward was announced at this year's Cannes Film Festival, and has Glee's Chris Colfer attached to star as the playwright.
"I am so thrilled for my first film soundtrack composition to be about Noel Coward's early life. We both grew up in the same parts of south west London, and began our journeys onto the stage and into writing at the same precocious age," Wolf said.
"The script, director, Noel Coward Estate and the cast attached combined are already in perfect synergy to make this something magical. It's an honour to be the next piece of such a legendary puzzle."
Provisionally titled Noel, the screenplay has been written by Martin Sherman and will be directed by Joe Stephenson, his second feature following his debut Chicken.

Born of the famously turbulent, yet ultimately fruitful collaboration between John Ford and James Stewart, Two Rode Together stands as compromised material. Ford took on the project strictly for cash shortly after the death of his friend and colleague Ward Bond passed away, sending the film into much darker territory than the director had ever or would ever normally work within. The picture was based on Will Cook’s novel “Comanche Captives”, material Ford apparently thought was less than intriguing western revisionism, even after bringing on his frequent collaborator Frank S. Nugent (The Searchers, The Quiet Man, Mister Roberts) to make something of the screenplay. Though certainly not as piercing as some of his work with his male muse John Wayne, the film remains a solid entry into the nihilistic anti-heroic take on the western.

Recently, the 34-year-old actor spoke with ABC News about the film and how a very special lady has a cameo. James's grandmother Mitzy can be seen in the courtyard at the witch Glinda's palace.
As for his next big thing, the renaissance man says, "I've been teaching a lot, actually. That's a new chapter in my life. It was very scary at first, but I love it. Ruth Negga won a host of admirers with her portrayal of Shirley Bassey on BBC TV last year. Now she's set to break through with a major Channel 4 spy drama and a role in Steve McQueen's next movie
Ruth Negga looks over her shoulder. "Hold on a minute," she says, leaning back to peer beneath our cafeteria table on an upper floor of the Riba building in central London. She bends to look under her chair. "Where is my movie career?"

A best newcomer nominee at the Olivier Awards back in 2003, Negga has had memorable success in the theatre across the intervening decade, particularly at the National: Aricia next to Helen Mirren's Phèdre, Ophelia opposite Rory Kinnear's Hamlet. Los Angeles — George Clinton and the Black Eyed Peas have settled a lawsuit in which the funk pioneer accused the pop group of using his music without proper permission.
The settlement was reached after mediation and was reported to a federal judge on Monday, records show. The judge has canceled an upcoming trial as attorneys work to finalize settlement documents, and no further details were provided.

After being blown away by Captain America over the summer, I was thrilled to discuss the film’s genesis with screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
Adam Cray: I just want to start by saying that I grew up in the 1980s as a fan of the Captain America comics so I thought you both did justice to the character onscreen.
Stephen McFeely: Thank you!
Christopher Markus: Great! Good to hear!
Adam Cray: How did you both initially get involved with the Captain America film?
Stephen McFeely: We chased it! In Spring 2008 we heard they were going to make it. Iron Man had done well and they said we’re going to do these movies leading up to The Avengers and going to make Cap and going to make him “World War II” and we thought that was pretty fabulous! ‘We haven’t inherited this world from our parents; we’ve borrowed it from our children…’
Dr. Jane Goodall, celebrated primatologist and ethnographer, is an extraordinary woman. Having ambitioned at the age of just ten to one day move to Africa and live with the animals, a young Jane Goodall set off from her England home with obliging mother in tow. Sponsored by one Louis Leakey, who believed a woman not yet biased by further education would make the best observer, Goodall went on to revolutionise the field of primatology with the discovery of tool-use in chimpanzee culture. For the 2011 Cmt Music Awards, the Zac Brown Band took to the stage (complete with sand, sun and surf) to perform their new single "Knee Deep." It was definitely a fun performance and quite a bit different from their hits "Chicken Fried" and "As She's Walking Away." "Knee Deep" is their second single off their second studio album, "You Get What You Give."
Unfortunately, Jimmy Buffet could not grace the stage with the Zac Brown Band. Buffet collaborated with the band on the radio version of the song, but was not at the Cmt Awards Wednesday night (June 8).
The Zac Brown Band was up for two awards for their "Colder Weather" video - Video of the Year and Group Video of the Year, but they did not take home either award. "Colder Weather" was the first single off their newest album.
We'll post video just as soon as we have it.

The newest release from WhoMadeWho is unlike any music video you have seen before. The title for the track, “Every Minute Alone,” off their forthcoming mini-lp, Knee Deep, can already have you guessing the song’s video is depressing. Well, watching grown men let their emotions go wild with tears is definitely upsetting, but the video has a mysterious element that keeps a viewer continuously captivated. Perhaps, we like watching things that are uncommon. Whatever the reasoning, WhoMadeWho certainly has us wishing men would cry more often. “Every Minute Alone” is the first song off Knee Deep, which drops Aril 26 via Kompakt. Check out the video and stay tuned for...

As if their outfits weren’t enough, the Black Eyed Peas have embarrassed themselves in a totally new way. News on the street is that the Black Eyed Peas are being sued by George Clinton of Parliament-Funkadelic fame for sampling his 1979 song “(Not Just) Knee Deep” for remixes of a Peas tune. The suit names Fergie and Will.I.Am, as well as their label, for sampling the Clinton song in a remix of “Shut Up” from their 2003 album “Elephunk,” and on a remix featured on the deluxe addition of their 2009 album “The E.N.D.” Hmm, maybe the lawsuit will inspire Will.I.Am to write a really dark, moody concept album about dealing with the legal system. Oh, and getting crunk, of course. Unfortunately for the Fergie and the gang, Clinton alleges that they didn’t just use the hook without permission, which would have been a jerk move in and of itself.

George Clinton would like the Black Eyed Peas to shut the phunk up. Er..."Shut Up" was the second single off of the group's 2003 album Elephunk, and that's when the remix came out, too. So what took the funk master so long to raise an objection? More: Black Eyed Peas score Super Bowl Halftime gig Clinton's lawsuit, filed in a California federal court, states that, not only did the Peas use his song in their 2003 remix, but they sampled him again in 2009's "Shut the Phunk...

Ewan McGregor in The Ghost Writer
Photo: Summit Entertainment One thing is for certain, Roman Polanski knows how to build tension and The Ghost Writer delivers on that front and is, for the most part, a very satisfying paranoid thriller of which Polanski is a known master. The story twists and turns down a few roads I didn't see as necessary, but in the end it delivers a punch you most likely saw coming, but were never entirely convinced would actually arrive.
Ewan McGregor stars as The Ghost, a writer for hire. He finds himself ghosting the memoirs of former British Prime Minister Adam Lang played by Pierce Brosnan. Knee deep in political scandal and surrounded by protestors at every turn, Lang isn't exactly a prime subject for a glowing autobiography. Things look even worse when taking into consideration McGregor's predecessor died under mysterious circumstances.
Nevertheless, locked away in a beach-side fortress in Martha's Vineyard,...

Knee deep in 80s remakes as we are there are a few interesting peaks rising above the slew, and Louis Leterrier’s remake of the 1981 film Clash of the Titans is one of those.
Today a new international trailer hit the waves of the internet and there’s a lot of hack and slash intermingling with the portentous bombast from Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson is aglow with Zeusness.
And there’s also the necessary quotient of enormous monsters, and like most trailers this one saves the best for last. It’s gearing up to look like a fun film, though there’s not an awful lot to convince you if previous trailers haven’t caught your eye. I know one thing, it would look outstanding in 3D…
Thanks to the good guys at /Film for pointing us to the trailer at IGN.
