Washington — Usher sang "Yeah!" Katy Perry donned star and stripes for "Firework." And a ballroom full of lucky kids got to rock out with Sasha and Malia Obama at Saturday's Kids' Inaugural Concert, a star-studded event that honors America's military families.
"Now, inauguration is a pretty big deal," first lady Michelle Obama, who hosted the event along with Jill Biden, told the assembled families at the Washington Convention Center. "But I have to tell you that my very favorite part of this entire weekend is being right here with all of you." She paid tribute to the sacrifices that military families make, including their kids.
Pointing out that such kids often attend six to nine schools by the end of high school, always having to be "the new kid," she said being a military kid meant "growing up just a little faster, and working just a little harder than other kids.

Trevin Hunte may have specialized in big, booming ballads during Season 3 of The Voice, but don’t try to slap a label on him in his post-show career.

We're just about there. One day before Christmas! The sled is loaded, the reindeer are mounted (wait, what?) and Santa is donning his gay apparel. That can only mean we've just about come to the end of our Six Slays of Christmas 2012 series. But not before we all have one last Silent Night.
Last year we closed the original Six Slays of Christmas with one of the all-time iconic yuletide horror films: Silent Night, Deadly Night. So it's only fitting to end the Six Slays of Christmas 2012 with the reimagining of that controversial film. Silent Night is not a sequel or a remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night, but there are definitely aspects that tie these films together. Although it isn't blood related, it is certainly a member of the family. And the makers of the new film were wise enough to grab one of the most memorable scenes from the original film to recreate.

We tuned in for host Adam Lambert, but VH1's Divas Live contained a number of eye-popping, deeply danceable moments last night. Miley Cyrus sang Billy Idol, Brandy, Kelly Rowland, and Jordin Sparks wooed us with mad vocals and killer hand choreography, and even Sheila E. dropped by for an otherworldly drumming exhibition as part of a Donna Summer tribute.
But those weren't even my favorite moments! My interviews on the red carpet with many of the divas will be up soon, but in the meantime, check out our favorite clips from the night.
Adam Lambert kicks it off with a gnarly-ass version of "Let's Dance"
Hell yes: Adam sounded amazing as he toasted David Bowie with this tripped-out, blipped-up, vampy version of "Let's Dance." I think it's fair to call it one of the best performances of the night, since it had fine costuming, killer vocals, and choreography lifted...

“Sometimes when we’re at our most vulnerable is when we truly let people in to figure out who we are as artists,” declared Carson Daly at the top of The Voice Season 3 results telecast. Naturally, the super-efficient host’s use of “we” got me wondering if I’d somehow missed an important biographical detail from his past.
Was Carson ever in one of those post-nkotb boy bands that never quite ignited the public’s imagination? (That would imply the guy gets, or has gotten, jiggy!) Does he moonlight as an acoustic troubadour, playing coffee houses up and down the California coastline?...

Bon Iver's Justin Vernon tweeted that he "hates the Grammys" on Thursday, responding to tweets sent by Grizzly Bear vocalist Ed Droste, who was distraught over not being nominated for any awards.
Grizzly Bear's latest album, "Shields," was extremely well-received. The disc currently has a Metacritic score of 86, and with reviews from Pitchfork, The A.V. Club and more rating it above a 90.
Here's how the conversation started:
At which point Vernon (@blobtower) weighed in:
Droste later tweeted that he was being sarcastic, but it's not uncommon for musicians to show a distaste for the Recording Academy's Grammy nominations. Vernon, who himself won Best New Artist at last year's awards, has been vocal about his complicated feelings about the process. "It's really hard to accept this award," he said during his acceptance speech. "There's so much talent out here... and there's a lot of talent that's not here tonight.

"America, it's time for you to vote." - Adam Levine ... he might've actually been talking about the election though.
Well, here we are. The first week of live shows dubbed "The Playoffs" certainly separated the experts from the novices. All in all, I agreed with the America's votes this week, but I must admit that I'll miss De'borah, Mackenzie Bourg and Julio Castillo. There were certain contestants who came out swinging and others who looked (and sounded like) they had no idea what was going on. But no focusing on the contestants that underwhelmed me, instead I'll highlight my personal favorite from each of the coaches' teams.
Team Christina
Sylvia Yacoub - The One That Got Away
I guess I'm a little late to the party when it comes to Sylvia. It's not that her voice hasn't blown me away in the past, it's just this is the moment I was waiting for. Sitting behind...

If you read a transcript of the coaches’ comments on The Voice, you might think they loved everyone equally all the time. But, of course, you’d be missing the nuances that can be derived from tone of voice and facial expression.
So while Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green respectively had nice things to say about their proteges Devyn Deloera and Diego Val during Wednesday night’s Live Playoffs performance show, their inflections told a different tale: “If you’re not one of America’s top two vote-getters on my team, don’t expect me to waste my third...

Last night was predictable for The Voice playoffs. Unlike Monday's round, Team Cee Lo and Team Xtina's final fives sang like it was a competition, with the producers, as usual, putting Trevin Hunte on last to bat it out of the park. Once he's taken the stage, everything after would seem like a letdown, so it's really just the polite thing to do. Hunte got in some big note balladry with "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You," which Cee Lo picked, and Hunte turned into molten sap.

If you made it through last night's election coverage, what's five hours of "The Voice" in one week? Just kidding -- it's definitely way too fucking much Carson and Sprint Skybox.
But, we're quickly cutting down the competition. Now it's Team Christina and Team Cee Lo's time to take the stage live for the first time and Thursday, each team of five will be whittled down to three -- two chosen by America and another saved by their coadge.
There seemed to be more energy with Cee Lo and Teen's teams, which is probably fitting for the coadges they represent. Plus, Purrfect made her return, we learned "The Voice's" wardrobe team has a Twitter account and Nicholas David shaved -- or maybe that's just wishful thinking.
First, the ever observant Carson compliments XTeens on her patriotic outfit -- well, really, hair. "I guess I didn't think about that, but Ok,...

I really respect the fact that The Voice knew Cee Lo had the best team and Xtina had the worst, so it paired their squads together for Wednesday night's performance show.
The second half of the Top 20 performances were put on display for America, and now it's the fans' turn to decide who deserves to move onto the next round. Who did enough to stay in the competition? And who should be on their way out the door? Let's recap what went down on Wednesday evening...
Adriana Louise - "Firework"
Adam was right about there being a lot of long notes in that song, which makes it difficult to sing, but this felt boring to me. Adriana did very much a carbon copy of Katy's rendition, and it was inferior to the original. I wasn't excited by it.
Grade: C
Cody Belew - "One More Try"
You have to admit one thing.

Kelly's gone country ... again!Kelly Clarkson just dropped her new single "Don't Rush," and it's a departure from her usual pop style. The song features country superstar Vince Gill. Listen below:This is Kelly's second foray into country; she and Jason Aldean recorded the ballad "Don't You Wanna Stay." "Don't Rush" is definitely more uptempo, and even has an '80s easy listening vibe.Still, Kelly's voice shines through."Don't Rush" is one of two new singles on Kelly's "Greatest Hits -- Chapter One" album due out November 19 -- the other being "Catch My Breath." The album also features a slew of the original "American Idol" winner's songs, including "A Moment Like This," "Since U Been Gone," and "My Life Would Suck Without You."If you ask us, Kelly should also release a greatest covers album, including her renditions of Adele, Eminem, Coldplay and fellow "Idol" Carrie Underwood. In a world like Hart of Dixie, you have to be careful about what you say and, more importantly, what you do. What may seem like a fairly minor move or turn of phrase can spark and turn into an inferno of controversy that you might not have expected at the time. Couple that fear of becoming blacklisted by the BlueBell elite with multiple characters that are afraid of being hurt or that don't know how to express themselves as openly as they should and you have one bottled up population ready to blow.
Is tonight the night that it all comes pouring out?
Keeping It Casual

Six seasons in, 30 Rock is still catnip to me. It's a showcase of the most lovable characters, the best jokes, and constantly surprising storylines. Kim Jong-Il is a semi-regular 30 Rock character, guys. Even South Park couldn't pull that off.
Tonight, 30 Rock's final, abbreviated seventh season kicks off with an episode titled "The Beginning of the End." That alone gets me misty-eyed, so without further ado, let's honor this unbelievably funny series by revisiting its finest gay moments. Let Will Arnett's frosty little smirk lead the way.
1. Devon Banks is the most nefarious gay man in TV history.
Will Arnett is simply smashing as Jack Donaghy's gay, snickering, diabolical adversary Devon Banks. Arnett has earned four Emmy nominations for the guest role, and if I had to pick a best (and most gay) Devon moment, I'd have to choose the time he feigned disgust while wrestling a muscular dude on Don Geiss' estate.

Most reality singing competitions are structured in a way that, by the time the audition rounds are reaching completion, they’ve been relegated to background noise while you fold two weeks’ worth of clean laundry. Or they leave you longing for a grizzly bear to bust through your front door and consume you whole, just so you don’t have to listen to ‘em anymore.
But The Voice — with its jaunty judges’ camaraderie, its international good vibrations (even when singers get rejected), and the fascinating ebb and flow of Christina Aguilera’s cleavage — provides the polar opposite experience. As the...

"Just because I’m country you think I roll around in pig (expletive) all day?" - Blake Shelton
Ahhh, The Voice. How I love watching thee and thy five million commercials. Week 3 of The Voice was ripe with tears, attitude and show stopping performances. The coaches have almost filled their teams and they're showing a bit more restraint in pushing their buttons. This means it's getting down to the wire and the contestants start pulling out the big guns… which means this viewer was literally blown away.

This music teacher reminds me of oatmeal, fireplaces and Grandma's quilts. What I mean is her tone is cozy and comfortable. Singing Fleetwood Mac's Landslide, her rich, velvety texture had me transfixed. Her command of the stage lured Adam and Blake to hit their buttons. We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including How I Met Your Mother, Sons of Anarchy, Modern Family and Grey’s Anatomy!

Bring on the dancing dogs! America’s Got X Factor finished its Season 2 auditions Thursday night, and I, for one, can’t wait to see how the Pekingese and the Poodle fare when they get to Boot Camp.
Okay, okay, I’m being a cranky beast from Hades, but Thursday night’s X Factor installment felt more like NBC’s summer variety special than a search for a legitimate musical superstar. There was the 13-year-old kid who passed out backstage from “dehydration” — a dark part of my brain imagined him whispering “Mom, did you slip my that Rohypnol like I asked you to?...

Tonight kicked off The X Factor’s final week of auditions, in which the judges’ panel headed east to Providence, Road Island in their quest for talent.
Starting off the night was a pair of men by the names of Adonis and John, also known to only themselves as “Original Greeks.” This seemingly confident duo declared that they would be singing Lionel Ritchie’s “Hello,” which seemed like a unique choice. Unfortunately, Adonis lacked the singing skills to back up John’s random “yeah” that was thrown in here and there in an attempt to put a rap spin on the song. With a lot of laughter and even a few “yeahs” of their own, the judges gave four solid no’s to the pair.

Wednesday night’s X Factor ended with the image of a 13-year-old boy collapsed in a heap in his mother’s lap, a flurry of producers and medics trying to figure out if he’d live or if he’d eventually die of embarrassment at the hands of Simon Cowell.
I’m not sure if the incident was a clever indictment of the lengths today’s youth will go to for a chance at fame, or just a happy (medical) accident that the show’s producers cynically used to fill out yet another two-hour audition episode. Maybe it was both.

Tuesday’s audition episode of The Voice will go down in history as the night where the show was forced to put an asterisk next to the word “blind” in its “Blind Auditions” round. (And, additionally, as the night when I was forced to put an extra asterisk next to my “Overall Season 3 Rankings” list.)

Things got a little rough and tumble on Monday night’s installment of The Voice. Blake Shelton asked a sassy singer to punch him in the face, Christina Aguilera lamented the lack of “spank” in a contestant’s delivery, and Cee Lo Green tried to incite the female members of the audience to riot.

Last week on The Voice, blind auditions continued on with the judges working to fill their teams with top notch talent. When Tuesday night’s episode came to a close, Blake was left shorthanded with the fewest number of team members and Adam and CeeLo tied for having the most seats filled on their teams. Here’s the breakdown as it stands going into tonight’s episode of The Voice:
Team Adam managed to score six new team members last week, bringing him to a total of eleven so far. Notable additions for the week included Melanie Martinez, whose acoustic version of “Toxic” was both interesting and bold. Former Nyu student Collin McLoughlin’s pure tone while singing “Wild World” was not only impressive, but downright soothing. Adam’s last pick of the week, Benji, the race car driver turned singer, was a definite stand out, having killed it...

"I’m feeling a bit loser-y" - Blake Shelton
NBC's The Voice, in my humble opinion, features the best unknown and relatively unknown singers on television. I don't say this just because I'm a former contestant (I'm also a former contestant on that other singing show, but that's a different blog for a different day). I say it because the talent this season is so undeniable. Even the hopefuls that are unfortunate enough not to make a team are way better than some of the finalists on other shows. And this season most of my favorites aren’t even 18. So here is my personal compilation of some of the incredible aural goodness I heard this week:
The Amazing
1. Avery Wilson
I incredulously watched this kid sing Usher's Without You possibly better than Usher ever has. This kid executed some ridiculously impressive riffs a.k.a "runs." If you are unsure as to what a "run" is...

Great news for our readers: BollySpice will be reporting exclusively from this year’s London Film Festival. The festival is the UK’s biggest film event, with 225 films showing. It enters its 56th year and is a 12-day celebration of filmmaking from around the world, with a host of previews and premieres.
The festival has a new Director, Clare Stewart, who previously ran the Sydney Film Festival. This year she has introduced a new theme-based category for films, clustered around the themes of Love, Debate, Dare, Laugh, Thrill, Cult, Journey, Sonic and Family. This new approach is designed to help festival goers find the films that mean most to them and to open up entry points for new audiences.

Tampa, Fla. -- Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder isn't singing Republican Mitt Romney's praises.
Vedder said during a Thursday performance at a fundraiser for President Barack Obama that he was upset by Romney's caught-on-tape comments from last spring that 47 percent of Americans consider themselves victims and entitled to government help.
"It's very upsetting to hear a presidential candidate be so easily dismissive of such a ginormous amount of the population," Vedder told the Obama donors. He said if Romney were to win the White House, "none of those 47 percent of people would have a voice."
Vedder told the audience that he struggled as a young man and credited a government training program with helping him learn the skills he needed to become a security guard in San Diego, a job that helped support his rock `n roll ambitions.

Say what you want about The Voice, but its pacing in Season 3 is proving far less predictable than in prior installments — from can’t-lose “inspirational” contestants failing to turn a single judge’s chair, right down to host Carson Daly dropping candid bombshells like “the coaches don’t always get it right.”
With so much truthiness in the air, it’s only a matter of time before the National Enquirer starts blaring headlines about a “Carson-Blake Backstage Blowup,” no?
(Seriously, though, who could get mad at Carson and his empathy for the contestants as he partakes in the agonizing wait backstage with their families?...

The beginning of week two of 'The Voice' ended with a bang with Avery. It's too bad a lot of the talent that came before him wasn't up to par! The Voice kicked off its second week tonight, continuing with the show's trademark blind auditions. With news that season four will see Shakira and Usher swiveling where Christina Aguilera and Cee -Lo Green once sat out in the air, watching tonight felt a little bizarre. It didn't help that there wasn't much outstanding talent to take my mind off the news. That is, until Avery Wilson took the stage. Standout Auditions We have to start at the end of the episode because 16-year-old novice Avery blew everyone who came before him right out of the water. It was clear that Avery was untrained, but his vocal performance on David Guetta and Usher's "Without You" was so outstanding, it didn't matter.

On the heels of news that Usher and Shakira will be replacing Xtina and Cee Lo on this spring's fourth season of The Voice - as the latter two take a hiatus for other projects - the Blind Auditions continued on Monday, showcasing plenty of talent that will vie for positions in this year's live shows.
Like always, there were a few featured artists who didn't make the cut on Monday. The most interesting was Cupid. Yes, that Cupid. The man who made the "Cupid Shuffle" tried out for The Voice and failed to turn around a single chair.
He came on the show to prove to everyone that he was more than just his pop phenomenon line dancing song. I get that. He wants to prove he has a voice, something that wasn't really showcased in his signature track. So what song did he choose to sing for his audition?...

After last week’s marathon of blind auditions of The Voice, I had lost a little of my enthusiasm for tonight, having been burned out a bit from three solid days of the show. Like a good little writer, however, I tuned in and found my enthusiasm instantly renewed, with amazing talent and just plain fun interactions between the judges.
Tonight kicked off like any other blind audition night on The Voice, with Blake Shelton being a braggart about his country music accomplishments and Carson Daley pretending to care about the back stories of the contestants. Then, a little girl with two toned hair and a bow on her head stepped onto stage and sang Britney Spears’ “Toxic” in a quirky acoustic manner while playing the guitar with a tambourine between her feet. With a killer kick off to the second week, Adam scored this the unique talent that is Melanie Martinez for his team.

Things we learned on The Voice tonight (that we never knew we didn’t know): Blake Shelton might not be opposed to occasionally rocking pink undergarments. A song called “The Cupid Shuffle” is all the rage at weddings and bar mitzvahs. You can be among YouTube’s Top 100 most-subscribed musicians and still need the help of a reality singing competition to hit it big. And there are only three bars in Anchorage, Ak.
Okay, so that last tidbit might not actually be true. (Blake’s sense of humor is drier than a county without alcohol, making those jokes of his often seem borderline convincing.

Total Loss is a much less insular listening experience than How To Dress Well’s (alias of singer/producer Tom Krell) debut, Love Remains, and most of the reverb and lo-fi production is cleaned away: it all sounds very clear but mostly manages to retain the intimate bed-sit solitude of Krell’s debut. Opener ‘When I Was in Trouble’s’ opening piano refrain is dolefully buoyed up by the surging and distant churn of thunderclouds. ‘Cold Nites’ icy piano notes sound like their coming straight from Dracula’s castle, with a warped bass-line that wanders out ominously beneath an infantilised vocal sample.
‘Say My Name Or Say Whatever’s’ vice-tight melody is Four Tet circa Rounds with most of the serotonin washed out, but the child-like choral whisper at the end of the song is truly angelic and tinged with the kind of warm-hearted feeling you get from a carol song.

As many iTunes lovers and Youtube fanatics understand, music (old and new) has become a huge factor on hit television shows and both the show and artists featured benefit from the collaboration. Ever YouTube a certain scene from your favorite show for hours on end? Did it have a catchy song that you immediately downloaded? Yes, the odds are that you have.
Television show soundtracks are an obsession over here and the music played make that specific scene that much more memorable. "Don't Stop Believin'" instantly became a hit all over again when the Glee club sang it in the first episode. And remember "My Life Would Suck Without You" before the credits scrolled? McKinley High may do covers for the most part, but at least we get a Mr. Schue shimmy out of it from time to time.

The Last Weekend Finale ITV

ITV’s Sunday night thriller The Last Weekend reached a dramatic conclusion this week as old Ollie (Rupert Penry-Jones) met his maker sooner than expected. Ollie’s chances of making it through the series in one piece seemed to increase when we discovered that his “inoperable tumor” was actually benevolent. However, while his constitution was strong enough to fight off an unwelcome growth, he wasn’t physically strong enough to fend off a brutal attack from his oldest friend Ian (Shaun Evans).
Shaun Evans is likely to become a household name on both sides of the Atlantic thanks to his role as the young Inspector Morse. While he’s well suited to the role of Endeavour, let’s hope he still has time in his schedule to take on more roles like this one because Evans makes a great villain. For his part,...

So, get this: I have reverence for the MTV Music Video Awards. If you check their history of winners (and ignore some key, depressing anomalies), they routinely honor the correct people. Since this year's ceremony on September 6 is just a couple of weeks away, we're celebrating with a new celebration of the VMAs' past: a list of the best 10 winners of the coveted "Best Female Video" trophy. For a refresher course in the history of the category, check this out. For a definitive list of the best lady videos' of the past 30 years, check below.
10. Cyndi Lauper, "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"
She's so unusual, indeed -- Cyndi Lauper whipped her block into a swishy, she-bopping frenzy in "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," and while her punky chutzpah certainly warranted MTV award credibility, she deserved every award for out-snarling Elvis and offering killer pipes, to boot.

The Last Weekend follows in the footsteps of recent ITV thrillers such as Without You and Injustice. Like those shows, this one combined a creepy soundtrack with flashbacks to create an air of mystery and or confusion. The story centered around an impromptu reunion between two old college chums: Ollie and Ian. The former a wealthy barrister, the latter a primary school teacher. To make things interesting, Ollie was married to Daisy who once dated Ian.
We know that one of the principal characters is going to die because we saw a coffin being carried out of their rented home in a Lost style flash forward. We don’t know whether that person will be Ollie – who is terminally ill – or perhaps Ian who spent half of the show doing a Lovejoy style ghostly narration. That being said it could be Ian’s wife or of course Daisy.
