Colin Farrell is far from the first person to make his mark playing famous Batman rogue The Penguin in HBO’s aptly named new series “The Penguin.”
Of all the superheroes, Batman’s villains are the most recognizable. Among them The Penguin stands as possibly the most recognizable behind only the Joker. That’s led to quite a number of actors getting a crack at the character over the years beginning way back in the mid-60s.
There have been a few one-off performances in TV or animated movies where people lent their voice, but these 10 performers made their mark on the character especially felt. Before you get too deep into “The Penguin,” go back and appreciate the long history of the Batman villain on the big and small screen.

Naruto has its fair share of annoying and hateful characters. From Kabuto to Orochimaru, Masashi Kishimoto has created some of the most sinister villains. While Sasuke is considered one of the most hated characters, there’s a character far more diabolical and menacing in the series who surpasses this Uchiha.

From his hate toward the Uchiha clan to his treatment of them, the fanbase’s hatred towards Danzo is undisputed. His death in the series is one of the most satisfying moments, according to fans. However, there’s more to it. While most fans deem him evil, some feel that his character is a mere scapegoat. This also led to the Second Hokage’s impunity in the series.
Danzo’s death by Sasuke Uchiha was Masashi Kishimoto’s ploy to make him a scapegoat

The first feature adaptation of a novel by author Colleen Hoover, It Ends With Us, is hitting the screen this weekend in what is expected to be a major crowd pleaser for her legion of female fans. The movie, aptly in the hands of Jane the Virgin actor-turned-Five Feet Apart filmmaker Justin Baldoni, who also stars here, captures the emotional complexities of relationships mired in domestic abuse and why women decide to stay — or not.
Similar to how Baldoni was able to capture the fragile romanticism between a young couple stricken with chronic diseases in 2019’s $93 million-grossing Five Feet Apart, the director, together with screenwriter Christy Hall, is able to lift the particulars of passions that are damaged and toxic off the pages and onto a bigger canvas, while stepping into the headspace of many women who’ve experienced plights such as Lily Bloom’s, portrayed by Blake Lively...

Giancarlo Esposito is often the best thing about whichever project he appears in. That was certainly the case, for this writer, at least, in “The Mandalorian,” his TV series “Parish,” and, now, the Guy Ritchie Netflix show “The Gentlemen.”
This one is a spin-off of the successful 2019 movie of the same name, which starred Matthew McConaughey and a terrific Hugh Grant. The show focuses on Theo James‘ aristocrat, who inherits his family estate only to find that it is the home of a weed empire. What follows is a classic Ritchie affair, with gangsters and crime members in pursuit of the empire. Esposito appears as a suave, menacing American billionaire named Stanley Johnston, who wants to buy the estate from James’ aristocrat. Esposito once again wields his mesmerizing voice to full effect, delivering the best monologues in the show, in which he calls British aristocracy “the original gangsters.” Critics agree,...

Anyone who’s ever worked in an office knows what a mind-numbing, soul-sucking experience it can be. And if you haven’t worked in an office, you know someone who has because they’re probably intent on telling you what a depressing bummer it is, day in and day out.
We’ve seen plenty of movies take place in the corporate world, but few of them have ever touched upon the monotony of the experience quite like “Office Space,” Mike Judge’s incisive takedown of cubicles, office managers, and the drudgery of a Nine to Five in a soulless office building. In fact, one needn’t have worked in an office to relate to its characters who search for something meaningful in their boring jobs. Most everyone’s had a job that made them want to slam their head against the wall, and “Office Space” seems dedicated to those of...

"I believe you have my stapler." Odds are, the majority of people who enjoy comedy films would be able to tell you that quote is from "Office Space." Directed by "Beavis and Butthead" creator Mike Judge, it was his first live-action feature and would probably rank near the top of any list of things he's made if one were to conduct an informal survey of his fans. That's the way it is now. In 1999 when the film first hit theaters? Not so much. "Office Space" majorly disappointed against high expectations and, at least at first, seemed like it was going to be forgotten to time. Then a straight-up cult developed around the workplace comedy and it's now a part of the fabric of popular culture.

It’s Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary month, which calls for two things: celebration, and admin. Fittingly, here’s an administrative celebration of the BBC show, featuring every season/series that’s aired so far. After a six-tab Excel file and a lot of overthinking, it’s a big ol’ list arranging each of Doctor Who’s individual runs in reverse order of excellence.
(A note on methodology: this list does not include runs of Doctor Who specials or the TV movie, and Christmas specials are included under the entries for their relevant series.)
There’s good stuff everywhere in Doctor Who. Sometimes it can take a bit of digging to find it, but much of the time, you hardly even have to look – it’s just there, posing as the Commissioner from Sirius 4, or asking “Do I have the right?”. What follows is an attempt to arrange each season...

Written and directed by Bob Byington (Frances Ferguson), the film follows a ne’er-do-well literature professor adrift on a soulless college campus who learns he only has six months to live. With the clock ticking, will he change his ways? Probably not.
Next set to screen at the Orcas Island Film Festival in Washington, pic also stars Martin Starr (Party Down), Olivia Thirlby (Dumb Money), Jocelyn DeBoer (Greener Grass), Macon Blair (The Toxic Avenger), and Stephen Root (Barry). Byington and Chris McKenna produced, alongside executive producers Stuart Bohart and Tim League.

Trainspotting writer Irvine Welsh has said that he wrote a transgender character into Season 2 of Crime to show how people are struggling with their identity in the modern world.
The Dougray Scott drama will stream in the UK on Itvx next month and follows detective Ray Lennox as he returns to crime fighting in Edinburgh following a breakdown.
Lennox quickly becomes embroiled in a case about vengeance, identity, and social justice after one of his former colleagues is attacked.
Produced by Buccaneer Media, Crime Season 2 has cast Boy Meets Girl star Rebecca Root as a transgender character who is navigating a world that has not fully accepted her identity.
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Welsh said he wanted to be “sensitive” to gender identity issues in the show, which engaged a trans advisor during filming.

The episode of Revisited covering Buffy the Vampire Slayer was Written, Edited, and Narrated by Lance Vlcek, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
With the recent passing of Paul Reubens, it got me thinking about the first role I ever saw him in, funny enough, without even knowing it was him until years later. It’s the one as a long-hired rocker with a penchant for blood. It’s a fun supporting role, acting alongside the legend that is Rutger Hauer. So, today I’d like to revisit a goofy, light-hearted, and charming vampire flick – from the early 90s. So raise your glass and raise it high. Today we talk about Buffy the Vampire Slayer (watch it Here).

When Anthony Carrigan’s Chechen gangster Noho Hank was first introduced in HBO’s Barry, he mostly brought levity to the dark comedy co-created by Bill Hader. But by the final season, while Carrigan still got laughs from Hank’s unique diction and other eccentricities, he also led the character down a tragic path where he had his lover and business partner, Cristobal (Michael Irby), killed before dying himself.
On the same day Carrigan was nominated for this third Emmy for this performance, it was reported that he would be starring as superhero Metamorpho in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy. It made for an “insane” day for him. “It’s so nuts,” he tells THR. During the interview, Carrigan also delved further into Hank’s transformation and saying farewell to the flamboyantly dressed criminal.

London, July 29 (Ians) Zak Crawley, Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow blasted half-centuries as England scored close to 400 runs on the third day of the fifth and final Test of the Ashes 2023 series, taking a massive 377-run lead against Australia at The Oval on Saturday.
Crawley blasted a 75-ball 73, Root blazed to 91 off 106 deliveries while Jonny Bairstow hammered 78 off 103 balls as England continued with their Bazball tactics as they reached 389/9 in 80 overs at stumps on the third day.
Opener Ben Duckett (42) and skipper Ben Stokes (42) nearly reached their half-centuries as England snatched away the initiative from Australia after being bowled out for 283 in their first innings. The hosts came back to restrict Australia to 295 and then turned the game in their favour with high-tempo scoring that left the Aussies gasping for most of the day.

London, July 29 (Ians) Veteran India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik said England skipper Ben Stokes falling to Australia off-spinner Todd Murphy on Day Three of the fifth and final Ashes Test was an example of the all-rounder’s mantra of ‘living and dying by the sword’ in the longest format of the game.
Stokes took his familiar aggressive option in a bid to take on Murphy, but he miscued the shot and holed out to mid-on, to fall for 42 off 67 balls.
During his innings, Stokes broke the record for the greatest number of sixes hit in an Ashes series, hitting his 15th maximum to go past Kevin Pietersen’s previous record of 14 hits over the fence.
“If you look at it generally, it’s a poor shot. But the way England have been batting, it’s a case of ‘you live by the sword, you die by the sword’. The way Stokes...

Dubai, July 25 (Ians) Australia legend Ricky Ponting has labelled as “ridiculous” suggestions by former England captain Joe Root to help combat bad weather and slow over-rates by extending Test sessions into the evening.
“That’s a ridiculous thing to say,” said Ponting adding that it is not within the current laws of cricket.
Root has suggested after Manchester’s fickle weather cost England any chance of levelling a riveting Ashes series at 2-2 when the recent fourth Test at Old Trafford petered out to a tame draw. Root was left frustrated at the circumstances surrounding the finish of the match that saw the entire final day washed out.

London, July 11 (Ians) Former captain Nasser Hussain has expressed his intention to persuade Joe Root to assume the No.3 for England in the ongoing Ashes 2023 series as the hosts face a selection headache when it comes to the spot.
The No. 3 position was filled by Ollie Pope until his Ashes campaign was cut short due to a shoulder injury sustained during the Lord’s Test. In an attempt to find a replacement, the team experimented with Harry Brook in the first innings of the Headingley Test, but the young batter struggled to make an impact.
By the second innings, Brook pushed back down to his usual position at No.5 after England sprung a surprise and sent Moeen Ali in at first drop. However, the decision to promote Moeen didn’t work out as he was dismissed cheaply for five.
The quest for the perfect candidate to fill the No.3 position...

Their skipper Pat Cummings played a captain’s knock to get them over the line. He showed exemplary leadership qualities of shouldering and fulfilling his responsibility, both with the ball and the bat. One needed nerves of steel to take one’s team to victory and Cummings did so with a cool and calm approach.
This remarkable and engrossing Test match between two of the top sides of world cricket will go down as one that has left an indelible mark on the future of the pure and conventional form of the game. It has established a definite paradigm shift as to how Test cricket will be perceived and played in the future.

Birmingham, June 21 (Ians) A superb rearguard innings of 44 not out by skipper Pat Cummins and his crucial 55-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Nathan Lyon (16 not out) helped Australia scamper to a two-wicket victory over England in the nail-biting first Ashes Test of the 2023 series at the Edgbaston here on Tuesday.
Chasing a fourth innings target of 218 to win the match, Australia, who ended Day Four at 107/3, were in trouble after losing Alex Carey for 20 with the score 227/8.
The first game of the new Icc World Test Championship cycle ended in dramatic fashion, with Cummins playing a captain’s knock to steer his side to a famous victory in the Birmingham twilight.
Despite losing the first session of the day because of rain, England, who declared their first innings at 393/8 and bowled out for 272 in their second, were sniffing their chances as they only needed two wickets with Australia needing 54 runs.

Birmingham, June 20 (Ians) The First Test of the 2023 Ashes series hangs in balance as Australia shot out England for 273 and knocked off 107/3 in their second innings, leaving them 174 runs behind with one day’s play remaining at the Edgbaston on Monday.
Australia skipper Pat Cummins (4-63) and spinner Nathan Lyon (4-80) shared eight wickets between them as Australia, who had conceded a small lead to England, shot out the hosts for 273 in their second innings.
Joe Root inspired a quickfire England start to the day, with Harry Brook and Ben Stokes also making valuable contributions.
But four-wicket hauls for the outstanding Cummins and Lyon saw England bowled out for 273, leaving a target of 281 for the tourists to win the Test.
Stuart Broad took two crucial late wickets to leave an England win still very much in the mix with some cloud and possible rain delays expected on the fifth day.

Birmingham, June 19 (Ians) On Day Four of the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston, Joe Root started by attempting to reverse scoop off Australia skipper Pat Cummins, which he couldn’t do so. But nailed the shot a short while later, hitting a six and four off seamer Scott Boland to set the ball rolling for an entertaining 55-ball 46.
Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen was in awe of Root’s knock helping England extend their lead to 162 runs at lunch on Day Four. “Root owned the game, he ran the game, he was pure quality. He made Australia do everything he wanted them to do, like spreading the field. It was a masterclass.”
“The sky is the limit for Root with the brain he has and also his work ethic, which is like none other. With 11,000 Test runs, he could be, ‘I’ve got enough, I could swan around, get a hundred,...

Ashes 2023: Would give England the edge; thinking and captaincy was brilliant, says Kumar Sangakkara
Birmingham, June 18 (Ians) Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara feels England have the edge over Australia in the ongoing first Ashes Test at Edgbaston, saying the captaincy and thinking in taking a slender seven-run lead has been brilliant.
England took the last five Australian wickets for 75 runs to bowl them out for 386 in the first session of day three’s play, with Ollie Robinson taking three of those scalps after a wicketless performance on Day Two’s play. For Australia, Usman Khawaja top-scored with 141, his first Test century in England.
“It is set up wonderfully and there will be an exciting two sessions from here. I think it is pretty even but the way the innings ended I would give England (the edge). The thinking was brilliant, the captaincy was brilliant. England are not going to settle for draws and now it will be if they can dominate with the bat after lunch.

Birmingham, June 18 (Ians) Despite Usman Khawaja’s brilliant century on the second day of the first Test of Ashes 2023, England pacer Stuart Broad feels that the game is nicely poised and they are one or two wickets away from the tailenders of Australian batting line-up.
Khawaja’s superb unbeaten 126, his 15th career century but his first in Tests in England, and his vital partnerships with Travis Head (50) and Alex Carey (52 not out) helped Australia finish Day 2 on Saturday at 311/5, trailing England by 82 with five wickets remaining.
“The game is nicely poised: we’re one or two wickets away from the tail. It’s been a hard, gruelling day on a pitch that’s offered very little so far, but for us, being 90-odd ahead with five wickets to get, and trying to get in a position where we’re not batting last on that pitch is a really positive place to be,...

Birmingham, June 17 (Ians) The Edgbaston Cricket Stadium will turn ‘Blue for Bob’ on Saturday, which is day two of the first Test of Ashes 2023 to commemorate England’s legendary cricketer Bob Willis, who passed away at the age of 70 from prostate cancer in 2019.
The initiative will raise money to help and support the Bob Willis Fund, co-founded by his wife Lauren Clark and brother David, in its research and bring awareness about prostate cancer.
Edgbaston first went Blue for Bob in the 2021 Odi between England and Pakistan and on day two of England’s rescheduled fifth Test against India in 2022. Spectators attending day two’s game are encouraged to wear blue to support the cause.
Edgbaston was Willis’ home ground during his time with county side Warwickshire between 1972 and 1984, including winning the County Championship in his very first season with the club.

Birmingham, June 16 (Ians) Australia made a steady start in their first innings after Joe Root’s excellent century steered England to a surprise declaration on an intriguing opening day of the first Ashes 2023 Test, here on Friday.
Root’s unbeaten 118 not out, his 30th century in Test cricket, was the stand-out contribution on a surface that offered little for the bowlers, and was the 32-year-old’s fourth hundred against Australia but his first since 2015. His ton drew him level with Matthew Hayden and Shivnarine Chanderpaul in the all-time list, just three behind Alastair Cook’s England record of 33.
England opted for a first-evening declaration with the score on 393/8 in their first innings after scoring at a rate of more than five-an-over across the day. And Australia’s openers Usman Khawaja and David Warner will resume on 14/0, 379 behind, having survived a tricky mini-session at the end of Friday’s play.

The EP behind Netflix’s Queen Cleopatra docu-drama has defended the casting of an actor of mixed heritage descent in the title role, stating that Adele James reflects the “multicultural nature of ancient Egypt.”
With Queen Cleopatra premiering today as the second instalment of the African Queens series, Jane Root, who runs the Jada Pinkett Smith-narrated show’s production outfit Nutopia, said Netflix “asked us to promote a conversation and that’s just what has happened.”
The series has been generating headlines aplenty over the past weeks following the Egyptian government’s staunch criticism of James’ casting, with the government insisting that the ancient Queen was likely of Greek descent and would have been fair skinned. The discussion has been debated on the likes of The Daily Show and Piers Morgan’s Talk TV show and, according to the Egypt Independent, the government-backed al-Wathaeqya documentary channel has begun producing...

Jaipur, May 7 (Ians) England batter Joe Root was handed his Indian Premier League (Ipl) debut as Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bat first against Sunrisers Hyderabad in an Ipl 2023 match at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Sunday.
The pitch for Sunday’s match is the one used in Friday’s game, where Rajasthan were handed a nine-wicket thrashing by defending champions Gujarat Titans. Both Rajasthan and Hyderabad are coming off four losses in their last five matches of the competition and need a victory to get their campaign back on track.
After winning the toss, Samson said apart from Root’s debut, the team is dealing with a few injury issues. Trent Boult is not in the playing eleven, with Rajasthan fielding three spinners — Ravichandran Ashwin, Murugan Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal.
“Conditions also demand the same. Climate has been different. Not much dew in the latter half.

Bill Hader insists he never had any long range plans for “Barry’s” storylines.
At the Los Angeles premiere of the HBO series’ fourth and final season on Sunday, Hader told Variety when he first began the process of developing and pitching “Barry” seven years ago, he had “no idea where the series was going to end up.”
In fact, he says, Season 4 is “totally different” than his original plans. As the series wrapped, Hader revealed those final days were “very bittersweet,” but everyone was “also so tired, we were exhausted,” he said, laughing.

This article contains spoilers for Succession season 4 episode 4.
Succession season 4 episode 4 “Honeymoon States” represents a monumental occasion in the show’s history. This is the first hour of the HBO series to not feature media titan/bad daddy Logan Roy, following the character’s sudden death in episode 3.
As such, much of “Honeymoon States” is fittingly jarring. Logan Roy’s surviving family members and business accomplices sleepwalk through his palatial Manhattan penthouse as they all halfheartedly scheme in their own various ways, trying to anticipate what could possibly come next after the death of a giant. Then, like a lightning bolt through the clouds, arrives a sudden and unexpected presence: Stephen Root!
At this point in its run, Succession is no stranger to the out-there cameo (see: last week’s brief Jamie Chung appearance). But anytime consummate character actor Stephen Root pops up on a TV show it’s enough...

With Barry‘s fourth and final season now in the can and starting to roll out on HBO, Bill Hader has his sights set on the next goal: directing a movie.
“I would do a feature, for sure. I haven’t had the space in my head to do it. We did seasons three and four back-to-back so it’s pretty wild.”

Late in the final season of “Barry,” a character says, “This is not a good guy/bad guy story. It goes way deeper than that — so much deeper.” Never mind that this man is talking about an unproduced film script. Bill Hader and Alec Berg’s black comedy is as deep as it is dark. There are shades of gray aplenty, but the lines are so sharply etched, morality often plays second fiddle to motivation. The people in “Barry” want, and what they want is often just out of reach (as tends to be the case in TV shows). Some crave fame or acclaim, like the needy actors Gene (Henry Winkler) and Sally (Sarah Goldberg), while others seek riches, like the self-centered handler Fuches (Stephen Root), or merriment, like the cheery Chechen oddball Hank (Anthony Carrigan). Circumstances can be their own impediment — Hank, for instance, often sees his mob responsibilities...

Big Brother two-time finalist Enzo “the Meow Meow” Palumbo has seemingly mastered the social game, as his likeability prevents him from getting nominated. After competing in Big Brother twice, he gave his shot at The Challenge. Where is Enzo now?
Enzo Palumbo placed third in ‘Big Brother 12’
In 2010, then-32-year-old New Jersey-based insurance adjuster Enzo Palumbo competed on Big Brother 12. The “Meow Meow” quickly protected himself by forming an alliance with Hayden Moss, Lane Elenburg, and Matt Hoffman, which he named the Brigade.
The group played an under-the-radar game and remained in control thanks to their nine combined Head of Household and Power of Veto wins.

London, Sep 1 (Ians) Joe Root has admitted the England Test captaincy sucked the life out of him and when he realised that it was affecting his family life, he chose to resign from the post.
On April 16, Root stepped down as England’s Test captain after leading the side in 64 matches, registering 27 wins, the most by any men’s Test captain from the country in the longest format of the game.
But with England winning just one out of its last 17 Tests and losing men’s Ashes 4-0 followed by a 1-0 series defeat in the West Indies, calls for Root’s resignation increased and culminated with him stepping down, with all-rounder Ben Stokes now the Test skipper.
