Said to be a mix of Top Gun and Back To The Future, T-Minus will be an expensive-sounding action thriller based on a Philip K Dick short story. Michael B Jordan will co-produce.
Michael B Jordan, who’s currently working with Ryan Coogler on his currently untitled horror movie, now has another major project in the works. Called T-Minus, it’ll be produced by Jordan through his company, Outlier Society, in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios.
The script will be co-written by Drew Pearce, who wrote the upcoming The Fall Guy, and Nick Cuse, writer of TV’s Watchmen and Masters Of The Air.
What’s really intriguing about T-Minus – for this writer at least – is that it’s based on a Philip K Dick short story, A Little Something For Us Tempunauts.

Exclusive: Outlier Society is developing the Amazon MGM Studios action thriller movie, T-Minus, which is being co-scripted by Fall Guy‘s Drew Pearce and Watchmen and Station Eleven scribe Nick Cuse.
Outlier Society’s Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo will produce with Pearce who is producing via his Point of No Return Films and Isa Dick Hackett via Electric Shepherd Productions.
Pearce
The project was initially developed by Pearce’s banner Point of No Return Films. Outlier Society’s Elizabeth Raposo heard the pitch—said to be an action-thriller along the lines of “Top Gun meets Back to the Future, with a Philip K. Dick twist”—and saw the potential for it to be the perfect Outlier project: an elevated piece with major tentpole potential.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, T-Minus will be adapted from the Philip K. Dick sci-fi 1974 short story A Little Something for Us Tempunauts.

As an actor, Betty Gilpin says the gigs that “are painful to do are the ones where you feel like you’re only being asked to do five percent of what you can do” as a performer. Enter Mrs. Davis.
Peacock’s new series casts the Glow alum as a nun named Simone who is intent on destroying the world’s most powerful artificial intelligence, aka Mrs. Davis. It’s not a spoiler to say that the series — created by Lost guru Damon Lindelof with The Big Bang Theory vet Tara Hernandez — was the opposite of painful because it activates all of Gilpin’s talents. It’s a genre-blending mashup (think drama and wacky comedy mixed with sci-fi and action) with a host of themes (best explained here) and Gilpin says she was more than ready.

Yesterday, news broke that Damon Lindelof, co-creator of hit shows like “Lost” and “The Leftovers,” was working on a new “Star Wars” feature film, to be directed by Oscar-winning documentarian and “Ms. Marvel” director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
Now TheWrap has confirmed that Justin Britt-Gibson will co-write the screenplay alongside Lindelof. In addition, other new details have emerged about what the project is and how Lindelof is developing the story.
According to a report in THR, a writers’ room was convened shortly after Star Wars Celebration, the all-“Star Wars” convention that was held in Anaheim, California, across the street from Disneyland earlier this year. The writer’s room was held for two weeks in July and included participation from Lindelof’s “Leftovers” collaborator (and “Station Eleven” creator) Patrick Somerville; “Obi-Wan Kenobi” consulting producer Rayna McClendon and Andy Greenwald, creator of the short-lived but deeply brilliant USA series “Briarpatch,” which had the...

Once upon a time, the theatrical window that comprised the weeks or months between a movie’s opening weekend and home media debut was a sacred thing. It was so pronounced, it led to debates between famous directors and other members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as to whether streaming giant Netflix should even be allowed to win Oscars. That all went out the window a week ago.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to change in big and small ways how people lead their lives, it’s left the moviemaking industry in a state of anxious upheaval. Currently movie theaters have been closed by the city governments of New York and Los Angeles, and major theater chains nationwide are shutting down in both the U.S. and UK. As a consequence, studio movies currently in theaters have no (or very few) theaters to play in.

Universal and Blumhouse’s politically charged horror-satire came under fire last year ahead of its September release after concerns over gun violence, and criticisms from President Donald Trump over its perceived plot and message. The controversy over director Craig Zobel’s film, written by Nick Cuse and Damon Lindelof, stems from a narrative centered around a group of “liberal elites” hunting “redneck deplorables” for sport in a loose riff on Richard Connell’s short story “The Most Dangerous Game.”...

Stop me if you’ve know this one, twelve strangers wake up in deserted clearing with no idea of how they arrived there and aClear cachere then systematically hunted for sport by more affluent members of society. If you haven’t heard that story, morality play, joke, or whatever you would like to call it, before, that may be because it is none of those things. It is, in fact, the plot of the new horror film called The Hunt.
This is a film that starts off at full-throttle and never lets up. Director Craig Zobel, who directed the overlooked science-fiction parable Z for Zachariah (2015), drops the viewer right in the middle of the action along with the players and leaves them just as disoriented and confused (but in a good way). Writers Nick Cuse and Damon Lindelof (HBO’s Watchmen) craft a story that plays on numerous standards of the cat-and-mouse story,...

While the platform to target people with different political views has drastically changed since The Most Dangerous Game was released almost a century ago, the basic human condition has remained the same. The Hunt, which was inspired by Richard Connell's classic short story, and is one of the year's most controversial horror films, is now in theaters nationwide.
Director Craig Zobel's horror thriller satirizes the current hostile political climate in the U.S. In The Hunt, “Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are, or how they got there. They don't know they've been chosen… for a very specific purpose… The Hunt.

On August 3rd, 2019, a gunman killed 22 people in an El Paso Walmart with a semiautomatic rifle after posting a manifesto online decrying a “Hispanic invasion.” Hours later, a shooter killed nine people with an Ar-15-style semiautomatic pistol at a bar in Dayton, Ohio. The shootings reignited the gun-control debate in America, as well as criticisms of President Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric.

Arriving in theaters nationwide this Friday, March 13th, is the highly anticipated—and equally controversial—horror thriller, The Hunt. Co-written and executive produced by Nick Cuse, and loosely inspired by Richard Connell’s classic 1924 short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” in The Hunt: "...a bunch of elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt humans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of the hunted, Crystal (Betty Gilpin), knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman (Hilary Swank) at the center of it all."

It was last August when a movie called The Hunt, scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures in the usually arid moviegoing month of September, became a national news story. Word got around that the film, written by Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) and Nick Cuse (The Leftovers), was a liberal screed about a bunch of political lefties hunting and killing right-wingers in a variation on the old The Most Dangerous Game narrative. The outrage machine then went into overdrive.
With recent mass shootings in three states—California, Ohio, and Texas—still fresh, the current occupant of the White House and his allies jumped all over the film sight unseen, with President Donald Trump declaring it a “liberal fantasy” designed to “inflame and cause chaos.” The echo chamber effect of those words, combined with the sensitivity over the shootings, led an uneasy Universal to pull the film from its schedule and possibly consign it to permanent limbo.

Genre specialists Blumhouse Productions deliver another winner with this violent and satirical thriller The Hunt, which sees liberal elites hunting “deplorables” for sport. Combining deliciously dark humour with smartly judged gore moments and a terrific lead performance, it’s one of the genre highlights of the year.

A riff on The Most Dangerous Game‘s well-worn premise, the Blumhouse blockbuster-to-be The Hunt was supposed to be just another project coming off a prolific production company’s assembly line, a tweaked take on class warfare that was part tongue-in-cheek transgressiveness and part tongue-ripped-from-mouth shock treatment. Then word got out that the story involved liberal elites preying on just folks for sport, a few politically charged phrases were flagged from a leaked script, the President weighed in and, well… as with most things involving our current Potus, things went south in record time.

Last summer, even before the public had gotten a chance to see it, humans-hunting-humans thriller “The Hunt” became a target for pundits on both sides of the gun control debate, when mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, prompted critics to consider the media’s role in glorifying violence. In response, Universal ripped director Craig Zobel’s movie from its Sept. 27 release date and rescheduled the thriller for spring 2020, making room for national mourning in the wake of the horrific events, only to turn around and use the controversy as an unconventional marketing hook.
While not nearly as incendiary as the early coverage made it out to be, “The Hunt” gives skeptics ample ammunition to condemn this twisted riff on “The Most Dangerous Game,” in which a posse of heavily armed liberal elites get carried away exercising their Second Amendment rights against a dozen “deplorables” — as the hunters label their prey,...

The Most Capitalist Game: Zobel Skewers Class Consciousness with Ribald Satire
Social satire is perhaps the only conducive way to narratively navigate the ills of capitalism in a world as addicted to its fruits as it is critical of its consequences. Director Craig Zobel, he who favors extreme social situations which finds human behavior reduced to instinctual baseness, finds a fitting home with Blumhouse Productions for the now-infamous The Hunt, which was all set for release in September 2019 before being unceremoniously shelved in response to another mass shooting just prior to its planned premiere.
Funny, how we can collectively agree on certain matters of poor taste regarding the depiction of uncomfortable topics but do little to actually solve them—but then, this is the sentiment at the heart of Zobel’s film, scripted by Nick Cuse and Damon Lindelof, who have turned The Most Dangerous Game on its regressive little head,...

After seeing The Hunt, you’ll understand how asinine pre-release protesters now sound. No political identification is safely coddled. Outrageous rhetoric isn’t intended to be taken as propaganda. All citizens and officials from coast-to-coast, border-to-border, get sucker-socked at least a baker’s dozen times. It’s comical how Blumhouse’s aggressively marketed American satire turns out to be just that: punchline exploitation mockery. A gruesome battle royale that makes Ready Or Not‘s classist warfare seem subtle in comparison, pitch-black and thematically barbed in rabidly hilarious ways.
Across internet chatrooms and forums, conspiracy theorists spin yarns about an elitist hunting club dubbed “Manorgate.” Commenters accuse leftist snobs of abducting red-blooded simpletons and killing them for sport. Turns out, somehow, podcasters and vloggers got this one right when “Manorgate” becomes reality for a selection of unlucky contestants. “Rednecks” from Orlando to the Midwest regain consciousness in a field next to an armory of weapons,...

Initially scheduled to be released at the tail end of summer 2019, Blumhouse’s controversial new thriller The Hunt was then abruptly shelved by Universal, a cancellation which came in the wake of the Dayton and El Paso mass shooting. Considering the film’s subject – a group of wealthy liberals set out to hunt a group of right leaning rednecks for sport – it was only a matter of time before the big Cheeto in chief got involved in this whole saga. Trump referred to the film in several tweets calling it “racist” without knowing what it was really about, which let’s face it, was a surprise to nobody.
Directed by Craig Zobel and co-written by Lost and HBO Watchmen writer Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse, The Hunt is based on the 1924 short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell and stars Betty Gilpin, Hilary Swank and Ike Barinholtz.

America’s sharp political divide is an oft-explored topic in cinema, and a tale as old as time across any medium. However, with our country’s unceasing mass shooting epidemic fanning the flames of political outrage, The Hunt found itself in a predicament last fall. Based on marketing footage alone, Craig Zobel’s satirical thriller was the target of right-wing media, including Twitter’s most gratuitously active account, and was indefinitely delayed by Universal mere weeks before its September release. The “controversial” thriller has now re-emerged and, surprisingly, it’s easy to imagine both sides of the increasingly divided political spectrum will finally come together in a rare moment of unity, concurring just how lazily written, shoddily constructed, and downright pointless the film is.
Loosely based on Richard Connell’s 1924 short story “The Most Dangerous Game”–itself the foundation for numerous other films, books, television episodes, videogames, radio plays, etc.

To believe the controversy last year, The Hunt was going to be the most vile film ever to be releases. Of course, those railing against it hadn’t seen it, and arguably hadn’t even seen the previews. However, I have seen the movie, and can tell you that, unsurprisingly, the conservative pundits had it all wrong. No, this is not just 90 minutes of liberals killing “deplorables.” In actuality, this leans into satire, parodying the most liberal and “woke” of individuals. Yes, the bones of what you’ve heard about are there, but this goes in a way different direction than you’d expect. In fact, it’s better for it, emerging as a shockingly good time from Jason Blum, Blumhouse, and the mind of Damon Lindelof (among others). The film imagines a rumored scandal called Manorgate, where wealthy elites bring salt of the earth folk to hunt for sport.

“The Hunt” may be new and controversial, but stories about humans hunting humans for sport have been around since, at the very least, Irving Pichel and Ernest B. Schoedsack’s “The Most Dangerous Game,” and they’ve pretty much always been used to explore the evils of one form of dehumanization or another.
It’s not supposed to be thrilling to watch a rich psychopath kill poor people. It’s supposed to be a thrill to watch the hunted turn on the hunter. The hunter, in simple terms, is always the a-hole.
Craig Zobel’s “The Hunt” is a little more complex than that, but it’s still a raucous, funny, ultraviolent exploitation thriller about people trying to kill each other. Betty Gilpin, Ike Barinholtz and Emma Roberts star as conservatives who suddenly wake up in a forest with a box full of weapons awaiting them in the middle of a field.

As someone who is pretty much on board whenever we get a new spin on Richard Connell’s iconic short story, "The Most Dangerous Game," I was pretty primed when The Hunt was announced for release last fall. Of course, there was a ton of controversy surrounding the film, so it was delayed, and now we finally get to see what all the hubbub was about with the film’s arrival into theaters this weekend. And truth be told, while it might seem like The Hunt is set to skewer those with a certain set of beliefs, or deliver a cinematic takedown of one political party over the other, that really isn’t the case at all.
As it turns out, The Hunt actually ends up being a pretty thought-provoking examination of the current state of the political climate in the United States, with its tongue planted firmly in its cheek,...

I really want to like The Hunt. As an object of scorn and right wing media smears, not to mention a one-time shiny distraction for our ever distracted president, the horror-comedy in which liberal elites hunt red state “deplorables” was maligned and distorted by Fox News’ funhouse mirror. But despite all that, The Hunt just really wants to be liked by everyone on both sides of the aisle with its straight down the middle “you’re all nuts” commentary.
Granted the movie is certainly the product of liberal filmmakers turning election cycle politics into blood sport, but only in the most self-deprecating and self-satisfied way. The cinematic equivalent of Andy Borowitz’s standup routine at The New Yorker Festival, one can almost see the words crafted by Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse’s screenplay strain as they reach out of the screen to pat their own back. The only thing missing is an applause sign.

A busy March box office slate continues this weekend with the release of three new films: Sony’s adaptation of the Valiant comic book series “Bloodshot,” Universal/Blumhouse’s provocative thriller “The Hunt” and Lionsgate’s faith-based “I Still Believe,” the studio’s first release under its new partnership with Jon and Andrew Erwin’s production label Kingdom Story Company.
Of those three, “I Still Believe” is the one picked by independent trackers to have the best opening weekend and one analysts tell TheWrap has an outside chance of taking the No. 1 spot from Pixar’s “Onward” if it overperforms. Estimates for the inspirational true story film are currently set around $15 million, with Lionsgate projecting a $10-12 million start. Screenings will begin early on IMAX starting Wednesday.
While it isn’t expected to be a major grosser for Lionsgate, “I Still Believe” is still an important release for the studio.

Donald Trump tweeted about “The Hunt” in August 2019; the next day, Universal canceled the September release. Director Craig Zobel knew the concept was ludicrous — liberal gun nuts hunt conservative rednecks for sport — but he also believed that it would be seen for what it was: a satire designed to skewer both ends of the political spectrum. However, the release came as the country reeled with the tragedies of mass shootings in California, Texas, and Ohio, creating a perfect time for Trump to pluck some Fox News talking points and declare an impending “liberal fantasy” engineered by Hollywood “to inflame and cause chaos.”
As usual, the leader of the free world had no idea what he was talking about. “I felt like it had been colossally misunderstood,” Zobel said, months later. “My first instinct to make sure people would see the movie.”
That proved tricky. Zobel said there was a point...

While November and December are often considered the months in which films of the highest-quality films arrive (as award season demands), one could easily make the case for spring. It’s often the time of year when distributors unspool more daring, adventurous works that may not be tailor-made for Academy voters. To further fuel this notion, March brings three films in my current top five of the year thus far, and much more. Check out my recommendations below.

Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are, or how they got there. They don’t know they’ve been chosen… for a very specific purpose … The Hunt.
In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, a group of elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt ordinary Americans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of The Hunted, Crystal, knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman (two-time Oscar® winner Hilary Swank) at the center of it all.

After being pulled from Universal's release schedule last summer, Blumhouse's The Hunt is now back on track for theaters, with a Friday the 13th of March release date and an updated trailer and poster highlighting the buzzed-about movie that "nobody has seen… yet."
Directed by Craig Zobel from a screenplay by Nick Cuse and Damon Lindelof, The Hunt stars Betty Gilpin, Ike Barinholtz, Emma Roberts, and Hilary Swank.
Here's what producer Jason Blum told Entertainment Weekly about the movie's return to the theatrical release calendar:
“I think we needed time. There’s never been a movie where there was so much judgment about a movie nobody has seen…. I was definitely very surprised by that. And it took a long time to process. But we always felt, together, collectively with the studio, that the movie would come out.”
