Elon Musk cast some doubt on his own declaration that comedy is now ‘legal” on Twitter after suspending several accounts — including those belonging to actual comedians Sarah Silverman and Kathy Griffin — for parodying him over the weekend.
Taking advantage of these last fleeting days before a blue checkmark costs 8 a month, Griffin and Silverman changed their profile pictures and display names to match Musk’s and had a bit of fun. For instance, Silverman pointedly tested the courage of Musk’s convictions, tweeting, “I am a freedom of speech absolutist...

Elon Musk said Twitter users who impersonate other handles, without specifying it as a “parody” account, will be permanently suspended without a warning after a number of prominent accounts, including that of comedian Kathy Griffin, were kicked off the platform for pretending to be the billionaire and posting tweets mocking him.
Musk, the newly installed majority owner and CEO of Twitter and self-proclaimed free speech absolutist, revealed the policy in a tweet thread Sunday night. Musk tweeted, “Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying “parody” will be permanently suspended.”
In a pair of follow-up tweets, Musk wrote, “Previously, we issued a warning before suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning. This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue.” He added, “Any name change at all...

The backlash over the Ray Rice video has begun ... with celebs from all facets of sports and entertainment ripping the NFL and Rice over the new elevator knockout footage. Seth Rogen -- I don't know much about football, but I know that Ray Rice is a piece of garbage who shouldn't be allowed to play it professionally anymore. @nflcommish your punishment for beating a woman is less than for smoking weed. In February, on the eve of Michael Sam's historic coming out, Howard Bragman, the veteran Hollywood publicist who coordinated the reveal, hosted an intimate dinner party at his Valley Village home. Invited to toast the NFL's first openly gay draft prospect over Chinese takeout was a gathering of athletes who'd helped pave the way. Some, like Major League Baseball outfielder Billy Bean and NFL Europe cornerback Wade Davis, had come out post-retirement; others, like the NFL's Brendon Ayanbadejo and Chris Kluwe, were straight but outspoken advocates of the cause. Hedwig recoups investment, Croatia approves civil unions, Jose Antonio Vargas detained at U.S. border in Texas
Hedwig and the Angry Inch has now recouped the investment to put it on, in a very short run. The show cost $5 million to put on, which is admittedly small for a major production. Capactiy crowds for a week would be $834,413, but with Sro crowds, it pulled in $1,072,311 last week. They’re not just banking that cash, either, because they just wrote a check to Hetrick-Martin Institute for $100,000 to help with their work with Glbt youth.
Malawi has announced that they are suspending their anti-gay laws and will not prosecute anyone while they are reviewed. This is a welcome bit of news out of Africa, where tighter and more brutal anti-gay laws seem to be popping up every day.

Chris Kluwe, a former punter for the Minnesota Vikings, plans to sue the NFL franchise over the manner of his release from the team.
Chris Kluwe To Sue Vikings
Kluwe announced his lawsuit with his attorney, Clayton Halunen, on Tuesday, reported USA Today Sports. Among the allegations in the suit are religious discrimination, sexual orientation discrimination, defamation and tortious interference with contractual obligations – all of which supposedly led to Kluwe’s release in May 2013.
At the center of the lawsuit are claims that Vikings special teams coordinator Mike Priefer took issue with Kluwe's stance on gay marriage and resultant activism for the cause. Kluwe alleges that Priefer repeatedly directed intolerant language at him and made homophobic comments that were ignored by higher-ups. One such remark Priefer is said to have made was: "We should round up all the gays, send them to an island, and then nuke it until it glows.

Civil unions come to Malta, judge strikes down Ohio marriage recognition law, Laura Ingraham joins ABC’s This Week
During his remarks at the White House Easter Breakfast, President Obama turned to openly gay Bishop Gene Robinson to ask for the closing prayer, surprising the bishop, who says that his remarks will live on only in memory, because it was entirely off the cuff. Considering an audience of different faiths, it’s hard to imagine the President’s move was apolitical.

Chicago – Lara Croft is all about her boobs. I mean, seriously. I don’t mean to be this guy, but if you’re a gamer who was around to play or hear about the initial “Tomb Raider,” the first thing your subconscious brings to mind – most likely – is Ms. Croft’s green tank top and those not-quite-round polygonal boobies.
Heck, the second game had a level where Lara runs around in a bathrobe shotgunning dudes. Much like how Indiana Jones is the hat and whip, Lara Croft is her sex appeal.
Video Game Rating: 3.5/5.0
In today’s day and age, this is kind of a problem. After numerous sequels, sidequels and puzzle games that have attempted to turn the “Tomb Raider” image into something a little more respectable, it looks like the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC reboot of “Tomb Raider” did just that. So it’s a bit ironic then...

Michael Sam came out as gay in an interview with Espn and The New York Times just months before he could be selected in the 2014 NFL draft in May.
Michael Sam Could Become First Openly Gay Player In NFL
Sam, a senior defensive lineman for the University of Missouri and an All-American, is expected to be in high demand come May. Should he be drafted, he will become the first openly gay professional football player in NFL history.
Sam, however, says that while he understands how historic his move to the NFL could be, he does not want to be remembered as “the gay athlete.” Instead, he would like to be judged as an athlete just like any other, especially going into the NFL draft. When asked about his potential place in history as the first openly gay player in the NFL, Sam replied that he doesn’t see himself that way.

Taking a break after participating a live Jan. 5 broadcast of "GameDay Morning" at his current home, NFL Network, at its studios in Culver City, Calif., sports journalist Rich Eisen repeats the oft-heard assertion that pro football is "the greatest reality show on television."
"It is, with the drama, sometimes the family feuds, that go on, the storylines that constantly change and surprise us," Eisen says. "It's a narrative-generating machine."
But as "Duck Dynasty" fans recently learned, there is such a thing as too much reality in a reality-tv show. When duck-call manufacturer and evangelical Christian Phil Robertson had a frank and occasionally crude discussion with a GQ reporter about his unsurprising views on sin and the mechanics of gay sex, it set off a firestorm that saw A&E (temporarily) suspending Robertson from the show (which it never stopped airing), and anger erupting across the press and social media.

Life of Whoopie Pie, CNN chronicles the Journey of Gay Athletes, Chris Kluwe moderates his view of punishment for Vikings’ coach
Chris Kluwe stands by what he said happened in the Vikings organization, but thinks he may have been too harsh in demanding that Mike Priefer never be allowed to coach again. “After thinking about it, after reflecting on it, I don’t think an appropriate punishment is if he never coaches again. Last night former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe appeared on MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes. He was there to discuss homophobia in the NFL and his belief that he was cut from the Vikings for being outspoken on the issue of gay rights. Kluwe points out that his stats as a kicker had been pretty consistent throughout his career and the only thing that had really changed between his eighth and ninth season was his pro-gay advocacy.
Kluwe’s appearance was impressive on a number of fronts. First off, he came across as eminently reasonable and not merely a disgruntled ex-employee. He makes clear he thinks that under the 1st Amendment the Vikings had every right to cut him from the team. (“Free speech” supporters of Duck Dynasty‘s Phil Robertson should probably take note). But likewise, Kluwe feels he has every right to speak out on gay rights and homophobia in the NFL.

Henry Rollins doesn’t care that much about what a bigot on Duck Dynasty said. He wasn’t going to watch it anyway. But he does say that while he accepts the outcome, that doesn’t mean the argument is over. “On the flip side of things, one of you supremely talented graphic artists should start a comic book series starring the Duck dudes as homosexual bears. Talk about crossover potential. The thing writes itself. At the next major gay pride event, there should be hard-bodied men in camo hot pants, ridiculous beards pasted to their chins, blowing through duck calls. Rep Aaron Schock’s Instagram is gay, Charlie Crist apologizes to the Glbt community repeatedly, Navajo Nation moves for marriage equality
In things that I never thought I’d write, Clay Aiken is evidently considering a run for Congress in his native North Carolina. He’s done some polling, met with Democratic operatives, and is said to be seriously considering a run to unseat the incumbent Republican. He certainly has the name recognition.
NHL star Henrik Lundqvist is going to be the new face and body of underwear company Bread & Boxers. Hopefully they don’t shoot on the ice, because, you know, shrinkage.
Rep. Aaron Schock may not be gay, but his Instagram account certainly is.
The Minnesota Vikings have responded to Chris Kluwe’s accusations that he was fired for supporting marriage equality so vocally. “The Minnesota Vikings were made aware of Chris Kluwe’s allegations for the first time today.

Chris Kluwe, former Minnesota Vikings punter and gay rights activist who publicly supported same-sex marriage, says he was released from the NFL team in 2013 due to his beliefs.
Chris Kluwe Publicly Supports Gay Marriage
Kluwe, an outspoken activist, appeared on many talk shows and spoke freely about his support of same-sex marriage throughout 2012, while he was still playing for the Vikings.
Kluwe was released from the Vikings in June 2013, before the beginning of the official 2013 season, with one year left on his contract. At the time of his dismissal, Kluwe remained quiet over the issue, but now, one year later, Kluwe has decided to take his side of the story public in an op-ed piece on Deadspin, published Jan. 2, 2014.

Regardless of who you root for, it was a good pro football season for those networks fortunate enough to be in on the sweet NFL action. The 20th NFL on Fox regular season concluded Sunday as the network’s most-watched ever — since 1994 — and its highest-rated since 1995. This season, Fox’s pro pigskin games averaged 21.2 million viewers, topping the previous high of 20.1 million (2010). The network’s 12.5 household rating tied ’95′s high-water mark — which was just its second regular year partnering with the league. Former Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe penned a strongly accusatory editorial for Deadspin, and the headline is pretty self-explanatory: “I Was an NFL Player Until I Was Fired By Two Cowards and a Bigot.” In the piece, published Thursday, the Vikings all-time leading punter contends that he was released from the team before the current NFL season because he chose to speak out in support of gay marriage. While Kluwe claims he had the support of team owner Zygi Wilf, the now-former Viking believes that he was let go because he became a problem for Head Coach Leslie Frazier (“Coward”), General Manager.

Russia is now the 8th largest film market in the world. Frequently stars travel to Moscow to promote those films, and frequently those stars are major gay rights supporters like Brad Pitt or Matt Damon. But will studios allow them to speak out on gay rights violations when they promote a $200 million blockbuster? With the exception of Madonna, Lady Gaga and Tilda Swinton, Hollywood has been remarkably quiet on the issue.
Speaking of which, has the boycott of Russian vodka already been a success? Some people think so, since we’re never actually going to bankrupt a multinational by withholding pink dollars, but the boycott has made international news, and gotten people talking about the subject in a way that the law, the arrests and the abuses haven’t.
