In June 2021, Oscar-nominee and Emmy-winner Riz Ahmed and Pillars Fund’s Kashif Shaikh and Arij Mikati outlined the urgent need for more Muslim representation in the entertainment industry, both in front of and behind the camera, during an extensive interview with Variety.
The trio announced plans to launch a first-of-its-kind initiative, dubbed the Pillars Artist Fellowship, with a mission to provide resources and mentorship to a group of talented Muslim artists to help them use their talents to change the game in the film and television industries. Today, Pillars Fund, Ahmed and his Left Handed Films banner unveil the inaugural cohort of fellows.
“We spent months getting to know many talented candidates,” stated Shaikh, Pillars Fund’s co-founder and president. “We are honored to work with these incredible artists and are excited to provide them resources to reach even greater heights in the coming year.”

“A Quiet Place Part II” is now available to stream on Paramount+ for U.S. subscribers, the streamer announced Monday.
Picking up where its 2018 prequel left off, the Abbott family must face the outside world and all its dangers — most notably the deadly blind monsters with acute hearing senses — once again. Forced to venture into the unknown, the family quickly realizes that there are many more threats simmering under the surface of their post-apocalyptic world than they initially expected.
“A Quiet Place II” — which was originally set for a March 20, 2020 release in U.S. theaters but was pushed to May 28, 2021 — was the first film coming out of the pandemic to pass $100 million at the domestic box office, where its current cume is more than $150 million. Worldwide, its total is over $279 million. Critics and moviegoers who have already seen it seem to be of like mind, with it sitting at 91% on...

In 2018, John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place turned silence into the building blocks of fright and forged from the horror-thriller genre a modern fable of family love, communication and survival. With its mix of relentless tension and layered storytelling about a tightknit clan fending off an immensely destructive, sound-attuned alien force, the film became a startling hit and cultural phenomenon. Now comes the story’s unnerving second chapter, which picks up right where the Abbott family left off. But A Quiet Place Part II also heads to new places as events hurtle past the fragile sanctuary of the “sand path” the Abbotts created in order to prevail in a reality where even a single footstep could be deadly—and into a world of infinite peril beyond.
On Thursday Paramount Pictures released the final trailer, along with a terrific video featuring director John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, for “Omg, we-can’t-wait-for-the-sequel” A Quiet Place Part II.

Lionsgate has hired Victoria Mahoney to direct “Shadow Force,” an action film starring Kerry Washington and Sterling K. Brown, the studio announced Monday.
Mahoney has worked extensively in TV on shows like “Power,” “American Crime,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Queen Sugar” and most recently “Lovecraft Country,” but she became the first woman to ever direct on a “Star Wars” film when she served as a second unit director on “The Rise of Skywalker.”
Mahoney will direct “Shadow Force” from a script by Leon Chills and Joe Carnahan about an estranged husband and wife with a bounty on their heads who must go on the run with their son to avoid their former employer, a unit of shadow ops that has been sent to kill them.
Washington and Brown are also both producing “Shadow Force” through her Simpson Street production company and his Indian Meadows Productions, as is Stephen “Dr.” Love through Made With Love Media.

The first trailer for director John Krasinski’s “A Quiet Place Part II” kicks off with a flashback to the day the sound-sensitive aliens arrived on Earth — as Emily Blunt tries to drive her two children (Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe) out of harm’s way down a busy street.
The new clip, released Wednesday, also flashes forward to Blunt as she and her family — include her newborn child — seek safety away from their farm after the events of the original 2018 horror blockbuster.
The Abbott family discovers other survivors of the alien attack, including Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou, but learns that leaving familiar surroundings may not be all that it’s cracked up to be. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.

John Krasinski’s character didn’t survive the horror of 2018’s “A Quiet Place” but his legacy lives on in the sequel as Emily Blunt is seen carrying a newborn baby in the first teaser for the sequel, released Wednesday morning.
In the 30-second clip, Blunt’s rifle-wielding character is seen walking silently and on guard as she leads her two older children (again played by Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe) through the woods — until they come to the end of the cleared portion of the path and must begin stepping on crunchy autumn leaves. (No sign of where her newborn might be — though the infant does appear in the first look image the studio released.)
While he won’t appear on screen, Krasinski returns as writer and director, with Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou joining the cast.
A fuller teaser trailer will be released on New Year’s Day.

Exclusive: Could this be another horror hit for Platinum Dunes? Sony has just picked up a horror pitch from scribes Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan for Platinum Dunes, the producers behind A Quiet Place, which was released in April by Paramount and has grossed a whopping $331.7 million worldwide. All the more remarkable given that the net cost of the horror film was $17 million.
Although the storyline of the pitch is being kept under wraps, the untitled project is said to be in the vein of I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream. It’s being referred to as an Untitled holiday movie for now.
Writers Melton and Dunstan, who pitched the project, have worked a lot in the horror genre. They wrote on three of the Saw movies and just finished up on Rate Your Stay at Lionsgate and The Reckoning at Paramount. They also wrote the ABC...
