It wasn’t all fun and games on Ryan Murphy’s “The Glee Project”, apparently.
To mark the 10th anniversary of the final episode of the reality show, that aired from 2011 to 2012, contestants have spoken out about their time on the series.
Insider interviewed multiple stars of the show, which was dedicated to finding “Glee”‘s next big star, with season 2 contestant Abraham Lim admitting: “There were so many great elements of the show, but it was also really anxiety-inducing and there was a lot of trauma. Trauma bonds were made.”
Executive producer Shauna Minoprio insisted it was all about who Murphy wanted to write a “Glee” character for.
“What’s interesting about the show is, this was about somebody’s creative vision,” Minoprio told the publication. “It wasn’t about who’s the best singer or dancer. It was about who Ryan Murphy was the most excited to write a character for.

The Isley Brothers have enlisted Snoop Dogg for their first new song in four years, “Friends and Family.”
“Friends and Family” is a breezy party-starter with a thumping bass groove and some slick guitar work from Ernie Isley. The track finds Ronald Isley celebrating the most important things in life — “Although we didn’t have much we still had each other,” he croons, “And what we went through, we went through it together/We stick together through thick or thin/I thank God for family and all my day one friends!

Exclusive: Veteran manager/producer Brad Kaplan has joined Link Entertainment as a partner. Kaplan, who comes from Primary Wave Entertainment, will work out of Link’s West L.A. offices which were expanded last month in part to make room for the company’s growing literary department.
“We have had the privilege to work with Brad in the past and he has been a friend for over 15 years,” the Link partners said in a statement. “He is one of the smartest and most genuine people we have had the pleasure to collaborate with. As we expand our literary/production division, we couldn’t ask for a better partner. We have always admired Brad’s incredible taste in both clients and material”.
Kaplan started his career at Silver Pictures where he worked as a production executive and worked on such films as Lethal Weapon 4, Conspiracy Theory, Executive Decision and The Matrix.

With "diversity" now an industry buzzword, and "black history" (broadly speaking) seemingly now becoming a bottomless well of stories for Hollywood and indie producers alike, I suppose now is maybe as good a time as ever to revisit this project which was first announced 2 years ago, in 2013, but has been in Limbo since then. Music video helmer Erik White was previously attached to direct what was described then as a dark comedy about a washed up 1990's R&B music star, for StarStream Entertainment (producers of “Life of Crime,” starring Jennifer Aniston, and the exec producers of “Lee Daniels’ ‘The Butler'"), with music produced by Gregg...

Music video director Erik White has signed on to direct the dark comedy “Break It Down” for Night Fox Entertainment, one of the companies that produced this year’s Sundance entry “Z for Zachariah.” “Break it Down” follows a washed-up ’90s R&B star who must come to terms with his selfish and destructive behavior in order to get his band back together and court the woman of his dreams. White, who will direct from a script by Ted Beck, made his feature film debut with Universal’s successful “Lottery Ticket.” Also Read: Jimmy Fallon, Pharrell Williams Are Awfully Demanding...

Hello, my lovelies! So sorry for the lateness. Technical difficulties and so on.
This week’s theme was Romanticality, which translated in everyone’s heads (including you, Michael, admit it!) as “Excuse to mack on Blake.”
Spoilers (and snark) ahead!
This week’s guest judge is Darren Criss. Fortunately, this was not filmed during a full moon so his werewolf beard and hair were not present.
Robert introduces him as one of Glee’s breakout stars and someone who participated in some of Glee’s most romantic scenes. He doesn’t mention that those scenes were left on the cutting-room floor. The Homework Assignment is “More Than Words” by Extreme. Since the contenders were zygotes when the song was a hit, they all look mystified. For no reason I can explain, Extreme’s guitarist and the writer of the song, Nuno Bettencourt, will be on hand to play the song for them.

Orson Welles. Robert Altman. Jhoan Camitz (a.k.a. That Guy Who Directed the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe”). And now Glee Project video director Erik White. Few have tried to execute the dreaded one-take virtuoso shot, and even fewer have succeeded. (“Wannabe” actually had two takes, proof that you can have too much zig-a-zig-ah.) This logistical nightmare, though, was an appropriate challenge during The Glee Project’s Tenacity Week as Gleek hopefuls wheelbarrow-ed and double Dutch-ed their way through nearly three dozen takes to film a video for Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger.” Several contestants earned their stripes, but Ryan Murphy...

This week’s Glee Project went beyond the stated task of testing the final seven contestants on their tenacity, and turned into a grueling gauntlet that pushed the would-be Damian McGintys to the physical and emotional breaking point.

This week was full of surprises, so let’s get right to it …
Some highlights of this week’s episode, “Adaptability”
Warning! Spoilers ahead.
Aylin & Charlie: "Let’s hug it out!"
The week begins with Aylin and Charlie deciding to put their budding flirtation aside and focus on the competition. Good idea when you’re on a televised reality competition. They seal the deal with an awkward brother-sister type hug/shove.
Mentor/casting director Robert Ulrich announces that this week’s theme is adaptability, something a performer on Glee will need in spades.
Michael (center) intends to shine this week
Michael is very excited because he thinks this theme will help him be more spontaneous and stop overthinking his performances. Mario thinks he’ll do well with the theme, while Lily isn’t thrilled about it. Then all of the contestants find out that they have to sing the song solo.

Some highlights of this week’s episode, “Sexuality”
Warning! Spoilers ahead.
This week’s theme is announced, as always, by mentor/casting director Robert Ulrich and is bound to induce squirming: sexuality. Everyone will definitely be comfortable with that, um-hmm! Aylin is excited, as she feels that she’s the sexiest Turkish Muslim who ever lived, while Nellie expresses nervousness at the prospect.
Aylin: I’m sexy and I know it
Nellie admits that she’s nervous about getting sultry
The group’s “Homework Assignment” is a performance of Color Me Badd’s “I Wanna Sex You Up” — perhaps a song best left in 1991.
Naya Rivera
Week 4’s guest judge is … Glee’s Santana Lopez, Naya Rivera, who, luckily for the contestants, seems much nicer than the uber-bitchy cheerleader she plays.

What this week’s episode of The Glee Project lacked in suspense, it made up for in peculiar delights. We got the Color Me Badd flashback we didn’t even know we wanted. Things got real this week, you guys. The theme was vulnerability, which meant it was time for deep confessions and a lot of tears.
Homework Assignment: “My Life Would Suck Without You” by Kelly Clarkson
I was confused by this song choice. It’s a happy, upbeat song! And yet the contestants managed to make it sound depressing as possible. Apparently this bunch thinks that being vulnerable means looking into the distance and making sad pouty faces. Guest mentor Cory Monteith picked Nellie, who was definitely the standout, as the winner. Props to the show for having both Rachel and Finn on as guests already.
Music Video: “Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M.
The video centered on teen bullying, so music video director Erik White had a discussion with everyone about their own experiences with bullies. The conversation was emotional as they all revealed their own personal struggles, like how...

After last week’s extreme highs and lows, plus Taryn unexpectedly dropping out of the competition, the contestants get down to serious business ... which means people bursting into tears every 5 minutes.
Some highlights of this week’s episode, “Vulnerability”
Warning! Spoilers ahead.
Vulnerability is announced as this week’s theme. Some contestants, like Abraham and Tyler, are looking forward to showing off their emotional sides, while others—ahem, Michael—are dreading it.
Oh crap! How do I look vulnerable when I’m this good looking?!
This week’s “Homework Assignment” is a group performance of Kelly Clarkson’s pop gem “My Life Would Suck Without You.” After last week’s kerfuffle, Mario doesn’t want to compromise on his song lines again. So Michael generously gives his lines up for Mario, but dude still doesn’t seem happy. Is he becoming just a little bit of a diva? Read on.

Still, the Bottom 3 contestants on this week’s Glee Project put on such a display of waterworks during their last-chance performances, I was a little worried Glee‘s executive producer Ryan Murphy and his team of mentors might be swept out to sea, never to resolve the burning question of what the heck Kurt Hummel’s gonna do with his life now that he’s not getting into Nyada.

A reality competition + Glee = a super fun summer show known as The Glee Project. That's my kind of math, y'all.
Of the 14 hopefuls who auditioned in Chicago, New York, Nashville and through an online casting process, only one (maybe) will remain standing and that contestant will win a seven-episode arc on Glee Season 4.
Season 2 of the talent search that launched more than one career in its inaugural run begins now!
The format of the show is this: Each week there will be a theme and each week the contestants will work with vocal producer Nikki Anders and choreographer Zach Woodlee to create a music video that will be directed by Erik White. Contestants who do well in the Homework challenge will get the opportunity to work with Glee cast members who will serve as guest mentors. Chicago – The comedy “Lottery Ticket,” recently released on Blu-ray and DVD, is so forgettable that it seems almost mean to pile on top of the negative reviews that greeted it in theaters. It’s not a horrible film, mostly because of the charms of its three leads, but there’s just not much nice to say about it either. It’s bearable and mildly-diverting, but with so many other great released on the market this month, don’t you want more than that faint praise?

Despite the presence of Ice Cube as both supporting player and executive producer, Lottery Ticket is no Friday. It ain't even Barbershop (or Millions, for that matter). But it's not bad for an urban comedy, generally amusing in its first hour before getting inevitably preachy on us.
One can almost see this as a passing of the torch from Cube to the no-longer-Lil' Bow Wow, from one rapper-turned-actor to another, and while Wow doesn't quite boast the former's innate charm, he's perfectly fine as the clean-cut Kevin, a would-be shoe designer who's ashamed of how everyone in his Atlanta projects is lining up to take a chance on a $370 million lotto jackpot. It's a system "designed to keep poor people poor," he insists, but once he loses his job at Foot Locker after a run-in with a local thug (Gbenga Akinnagbe), he's not above giving it a shot. Kevin (rapper Bow Wow: The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Roll Bounce) doesn’t play the lottery, because he thinks it’s “designed to keep poor people poor by selling them false dreams.” So why does he buy a lottery ticket anyway? Because he couldn’t win $370 million if he hadn’t, and there would be no movie if he didn’t, silly! This bizarre bit of inexplicable screenwriting does also serve another purpose: it is perhaps the best explanation for the existence of this crass excuse for a comedy: it’s wish fulfillment to keep the American underclass from revolting for another week. Newbie screenwriters Erik White and Abdul Williams (music video director White is also making his feature debut) could have elected to not have Kevin disparage lottery-playing, but I suspect that this reality-based approach to the dollar-and-a-dream lottery philosophy is meant to, er, keep it real.

Lottery Ticket
Directed by: Erik White
Cast: Bow Wow, Brandon T. Jackson, Loretta Devine, Ice Cube, Charlie Murphy, Mike Epps
Running Time: 1 hr 35 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: August 20, 2010
Plot: A young man (Bow Wow) and his grandmother (Devine) attempt to keep a coveted winning lottery ticket in their possession for a long weekend before it can be cashed in.
Who’S It For? Being a fan of the cast members’ previous comedic work would be a great advantage towards possibly enjoying Lottery Ticket.
Expectations: The wide cast had me optimistic that this movie could bring in a wide variety of laughs, along with a story that makes for an interesting, but altogether slightly impossible predicament.
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Bow Wow as Kevin Carson: He might be less reputable acting-wise than his co-stars, but he can still do a decent job of carrying this movie, and pushing it forward.

Erik White's Lottery Ticket is so generally-but-not-notably bad that it's hard to even muster the critical stamina to appraise it. It's one of those movies that is rarely so unbearable that it demands that a critic warns his loyal readers away from going anywhere near it but it also contains so few positive attributes that there's very little nice to say about this semi-comedy. It falls into that critical valley where I'm forced to try to convey a shrug in words. Comedy is serious business. In directing his first feature film, it appears Erik White found out just how tough it is. And though he seems to have a thorough understanding of the formula and techniques involved in movie-making, “Lottery Ticket” has more misfires than hits within its 90 or so minutes of screen time.
The premise is simple. Kevin Carson, played by Bow Wow, is a high-school graduate who lives with his Grandma while working at the local Foot Locker. Though he tries to keep it a secret after his lottery ticket comes up a winner, everyone in the housing project they call home learns of his windfall. Matters are made worse because it’s Fourth of July weekend. Kevin, along with his best friend Benny, has to keep the winning ticket intact and in his possession until the lottery office opens up on Tuesday, July 5th. That’s where the fun usually begins.

Erik White wanted the housing projects in Lottery Ticket, his fractious wish-fulfillment comedy, to look like an "Everywhere, USA" that would be relatable to all. Though he envisioned the story taking place in his hometown of New York City, circumstance led him to shoot in Atlanta, Georgia, largely on a complex of soon-to-be demolished projects with a pink-bricked, benignly institutional look. He carefully shot around any identifying signs or landmarks, ensuring that his generic, non-specific, ultimately unsatisfying take on a bullet-proof concept -- an 18-year-old Foot Locker employee wins the lottery but is forced to wait out a long weekend within the cutthroat ecosystem of his community before he can claim the prize -- is reflected in its hermetic, alienating aesthetic.

Film bosses behind upcoming movie Lottery Ticket have been hit with a lawsuit from a screenwriter who alleges his idea was stolen.
Tom Huang filed papers at Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday claiming he wrote a treatment for a movie plot in 2004 and talked it over with his agent Brad Kaplan.
The writer alleges Kaplan "stole" the idea and passed it on to his client Erik White, who wrote and directed Lottery Ticket, about a young man who has to fend off his greedy neighbours when they discover he's holding a winning ticket worth $350 million (£233 million).
Huang claims the film, which is due for release later this month, includes parts of his story such as "detailed plot elements, characters, and scenes", reports TMZ.com.
He is seeking an undisclosed amount but states in the legal documents that Lottery Ticket, starring Ice Cube, is likely to make millions of dollars in profit.

Screenwriter Tom Huang filed a lawsuit Weds in L.A. Superior Court, against Evolution Entertainment, and managers Brad Kaplan, Oren Koules and Mark Burg, as well as Erik White, the director of the upcoming film Lottery Ticket, (who also has a co-”story by” credit on the film), claiming “breach of fiduciary duty, aiding and abetting breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, civil conspiracy, breach of oral contract, promissory estoppel, breach of implied-in-fact-contract and unjust enrichment.” Whew! In other words… they stole his script.
Huang claims that in 2004, Evolution took him on as a client and helped him develop a treatment for a film called “Gotta Make It Til Morning.” Kaplan, a literary manager, then allegedly suggested Huang work with White, another Evolution client, to develop the idea further. After a few meetings, the project didn’t go anywhere, and Huang says he thought the movie was dead. That is, until...

At the Lakewood Stages in Atlanta, Georgia we are inside of a house on a sunny day, or at least you would think that until you looked up and saw the entire ceiling was made up of lighting rigs, and that "sunlight" is a few very powerful lights blasting through the windows. When it is done well this is the kind of illusion that is always disorienting, no matter how many film sets you've been on... well, and the fact that all the furniture is covered in plastic to protect continuity. This particular set is for Warner Bros. new urban comedy Lottery Ticket , directed by music video auteur Erik White and starring rapper-turned-actor Bow Wow (born Shad Moss) who has made himself a marquee name in pictures like Roll Bounce and the third "Fast and Furious"...

The Last Airbender
Opens: July 2nd 2010
Cast: Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel
Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Summary: A live-action film based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series. In a fantastic world where civilisation exists as four great empires, a reluctant young child sets out on a perilous journey to restore balance to a world torn apart by war.
Analysis: It has been quite the decade for M. Night Shyamalan, who started it as a household name with the label of a modern-day Hitchcock thanks to the likes of "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs". Today he's considered more of a one-trick pony and in some cases a punchline due to rampant stories of egomania run wild and a series of much derided onscreen flops like "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening".
