Every major actor and actress in Bollywood will at one stage attempt the double role. It is up there on every distinguished star’s curriculum vitae. There a countless examples Hum Dono (Dev Anand), Ram aur Shyam (Dilip Kumar), Seeta aur Geeta (Hema Malini), Apu Raja (Kamal Hassan), Chaalbaaz (Sri Devi), Kishan Kanhaiya (Anil Kapoor) and many many more. In addition to these we have Amitabh Bachchan’s own contributions to the double role genre, but to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema and its great tradition of double roles, we thought we would choose a slightly different film – Mahaan.
A triple role! Now that is is a completely different level and there is only one actor, the superstar of Indian cinema, who has truly attempted and achieved that – Amitabh Bachchan. Father, son and son – that was Mahaan. The father donned a beard, one son a moustache, the other clean shaven.

The last time we saw Shilpa Shirodkar was 13 years ago in Gaja Gamini, the actress who was quite popular back in the 1980s and 90s with films like Khuda Gawah, Aankhen, Kishen Kanhaiya, Gopi-Kishan etc is ready to bounce back, though this time via the small screen. It is learnt that the 43 year old actress will soon be seen in the role of a domestic help in Zee TV's new show 'Ek Muthi Aasman'. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is back in the reckoning with the huge success of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Obviously, it's the question of 'what next' that is looming large on him. While there have been reports of him beginning work on Mirza Sahiba, we have just been informed that the one that could well make the cut is his dream project Raja And The Legend Of The Flute.
"This is a film that Mehra has in mind for years. In fact it was earlier titled Paanch Kaurav and was touted to be a very expensive larger than life adventure. The film is set as a mythical thriller as it is centered on a hunt for Krishna's flute. He had plans for this even earlier on but then he started Bhaag Milkha Bhaag first," informs a source.

On May 26, when the 66th Cannes film festival draws to an end, India will anxiously wait to see if either Monsoon Shootout or Dabba will bring home a Camera d’Or, the award given to the best debut film in the festival. Ritesh Batra’s Dabba which played in the International Critics’ Week won an audience award-the Grand Rail d’Or-following unanimous praise by the critics and the audiences.
While we wait, let’s go down in the annals of history to know about the Indian films that won awards at the premier film festival. Although they might seem like a rare and exquisite breed, there are actually quite a few of them starting from the very first edition of Cannes.

While song and dance have always been a part of Bollywood, this year we saw a huge change in the way music was incorporated in films. A lot of the films used music in the background and there was actually very little dancing and not much room seemed to be left for innovative dance sequences. Yet, there was this ongoing trend of item numbers that filled up a lot of space.
Bollyspice takes a look at some of the most innovative and enjoyable choreography of 2012.
‘Ishq Shava/Ishq Dance’ – Jab Tak Hai Jaan
The newest and most modern choreography was seen in the only dance number in the movie Jab Tak Hai Jaan: ‘Ishq Shava” with choreography by Vaibhavi Merchant.
The sequence begins with the prelude called Ishq Dance, which is one of the highlights of the movie, where Katrina Kaif is seen dancing to different styles with different dancers.

This year's animated feature race still feels like a mystery: Brave wasn't beloved enough to slide right into Pixar winner position; Frankenweenie wasn't popular enough despite its fun aesthetic achievements; ParaNorman was a hit but not a huge one; Madagascar 3 was very well reviewed and a huge hit but the third in a series Oscar hasn't cared for; and so on.
With 21 eligible features this year we'll have five nominees and unless either Rise of the Guardians or Wreck It Ralph (just opened) are across the board sensations, we'll have a real race.

In my predictions I had 17 animated films that looked like they would be contending for Best Animated Feature at this year's Oscars. Of those 17, all but one made the final list of what turned out to be 21 total films. Disney's joint effort with Utv Pictures, Arjun: The Warrior Prince, did not make the final list despite word it would be getting an Oscar qualifying run. My assumption is the fact the film was available on Netflix Instant before it ever had that run, which would make it ineligible, but unfortunately I was unable to get anyone from Disney on the phone for confirmation before posting this article. As for the five new films I hadn't previously counted on, they include Adventures in Zambezia, Delhi Safari, Hey Krishna, The Mystical Laws and Walter & Tandoori's Christmas. At this moment I don't have any information on these five films, but I have already...

Pran Kishan Sikand
Pran Kishan Sikand dreamt of becoming a professional photographer. Little did he know that a measly, humble ‘paan’ (betel leaf) would change his life and set him on his destined path. It was 1939 or thereabouts. Pran was at a ‘paan’ shop at Lahore, enjoying a munch with his friends when a stranger approached him and asked whether he wanted to act in films. Pran was amused and asked his name. Stranger introduced himself as Muhammad Walli, a renowned film maker in the flourishing film district of Lahore. He said he was making a Punjabi film and Pran looked a perfect fit for the role of a villain in the film. Pran just brushed him off. Walli kept insisting that he pay a visit to the studio, and pushed a piece of paper with his address into Pran’s hands. The film was Yamla Jat (1940), a runaway hit that year.

After 9/11, security at American airports has been tightened up. America is doing everything in it’s power to make sure another 9/11 does not happen. In order to do that, people who travel to the Us these days, who look different, are coloured, have a strange last name or their name looks similar to a name on the blacklist of Interpol have a chance to be questioned by immigration officials. It happened to actor Shah Rukh Khan this week for the second time in three years.

The story of the Trishna and Krishna, Bangladesh twins joined at the head, is equal parts ethical conundrum and medical miracle. Abandoned by a mother who couldn’t afford to care for them, their chances at the orphanage weren’t much better. By a stroke of luck, the girls were discovered by an Australian aid worker who recognized the dire situation they faced, and transported them to Australia for surgery just in time to relieve a rise in blood pressure as one twin drained fluid into another. With the time that procedure brought them, a team of neurosurgeons began mapping out a multi-part procedure that would enable them to separate the two brains and eventually give them independent lives. The stakes are high, and a mistake could cost one or both twins their lives.

2011 was a great year for music in the Hindi film industry with an eclectic mix of styles, moods, vibes, beats, fresh new sounds and cool grooves. The songs ranged from romantic ballads, to full on rock, to the playful, the funny, the traditional, the internationally flavored ones and everything in-between and even some with the track tinged with a little bit of each. So many of the soundtracks this year were so good that it was not just one song that was killer good, it was most of them. Because so many albums this year were such a good collection of brilliant songs, think Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Delhi Belly, Rockstar and more, we had a tough time limiting ourselves to 25 Best Songs of the year, so we thought why try and decided to go with 50! We now present the 50 best songs of 2011!

Film: ‘Khatta Meetha’; Starring: Akshay Kumar, introducing Trishna Krishnan, Kulbhushan Kharbanda; Directed by: Priyadarshan; Rating: ***
First things first. This is not, repeat not, a comedy. Not by any yardstick. For those expecting a typical Priyadarshan-Akshay Kumar comedy ‘Khatta Meetha’ is not your cup of tee-hee. For those who know there’s a more reflective and ruminative side to both the prolific director and the leading man, here’s the thing.
‘Khatta Meetha’ takes stinging satirical swipes at the epidemic disease of corruption that has taken over the Indian ethos. Tragically the treatment is quite.

Film: Badmaash CompanyMusic Director: Pritam ChakrabortyLyricist: Anvita DuttSingers: Kk, Mohit Chauhan, Krishna, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and DayalRating:**1/2 What stands out in the soundtrack of Shahid Kapoor-starrer Badmaash Company is the absence of female singers. The album contains four originals and two remixes. The soundtrack starts off with a song called Ayaashi sung by Kk. It is a catchy song with a heavy use of percussion. The upbeat track has all the qualities of becoming a hit with the youngsters. It also ...

When most of the films are having its audio launch grandiosely hosted, there are certain films being simple affairs as well. It was evident with Dhanush starrer ‘Kutty’ that had the music release function in simplicity.
Situations were the same with ‘Kattradhu Kalavu’ starring Krishna and Vijayalakshmi in lead roles. Krishna is none other than the younger brother of director Vishnuvardhan and son of producer ‘Pattiyal’ Shekar.
This film is directed by debtuant Balaji Devi Prasad and music is scored by Paul J.
Three songs and the film’s teaser were screened for the special invitees.
Vishnuvardhan, Rama Narayan, Kalaipuli Sekar, L Suresh, Hansraj Saxena, Sivasakthi Pandian, Kaja Moideen, Tp Agarwal, Al Azhagappan, K Murlidharan, Kastoori Raja, and Kreedom Vijay graced over the occasion.

It is well known that the Yash Raj Films folk do not have numerous private screenings (as most filmmakers do) for the cast, special guests and others associated with the production. But there can be exceptions to the Yrf rule, especially when it involves Rani Mukerji, considering her proximity to them.It is learnt that producer Aditya Chopra had a special screening of Dil Bole Hadippa for the actress and her family recently. Along with Rani, her parents Krishna and Ram Mukerji as well as her brother Raja and his wife Jyoti were present.Says a source, "Normally, such a screening of a Yrf project would never happen. But Aditya himself organised a screening of the movie exclusively for the Mukerjis at the Yrf studios." Buzz doing the B-Town rounds is that Raja has been raving about his sister's performance ever since. When asked about the Hadippa screening,...
