Raphael Bob-Waksberg's animated Netflix series started out unprepossessingly enough as the story of a misanthropic former sitcom star wallowing in residuals payments and self-pity in the Hollywood hills. Keri Russell was unwittingly by my side at the start of the most painful chapter of my life.
The wretched afternoon in question is chronicled in my new memoir, Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies, which is available beginning today at your local bookstore and all major online retailers. The tome delves into my 13-year relationship with my late husband, Kit Cowan, who — as followers of mine on social media and regular readers of TVLine know — died in 2015 after an 11-month battle with a rare and merciless form of colorectal cancer.

A photo posted by Giuliana Rancic (@giulianarancic) on Dec 18, 2016 at 5:33am Pst Giuliana Rancic has a lot to celebrate this year. The former E! News host posted a beautiful photo of herself on Instagram on Sunday to celebrate an incredible milestone: being cancer free for five years. The mom of son Duke first revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer back in Oct. 2011. She then underwent a double lumpectomy, radiation treatment, and a double mastectomy to treat it. In the snap, Giuliana stands on a beach while looking at the ocean with her arms outstretched. She captioned the photo: "'Everything will be Ok in the end. If it's not Ok, it's not the end.' Ever since I was diagnosed with breast cancer, this quote has been my mantra. These words have been my anthem, my inspiration, my comfort and my prayer. They gave me hope...

New Karlovy Vary programme showcases European film school talent.
At this year’s Karlovy Vary Film Festival, European Film Promotion – the body behind Shooting Stars at Berlin and Producers On The Move in Cannes – presented Future Frames – Ten New Filmmakers To Follow.
Future Frames showcases the work of directors from film schools from across Europe while also giving the filmmakers the chance to meet with industry.
“We realized that young people who study at film schools and do their diploma films all of a sudden enter the real world of filmmaking and the film industry and most of them are not really prepared,” explained Renate Rose, the managing director of Efp, speaking to Screen at the Future Frames press event.

Geo-blocking and territoriality were high on the agenda when European Commissioner Andrus Ansip met with members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education for an ¨exchange of views¨ in Strasbourg.
During the 90-minute grilling on Monday evening (April 27), Ansip repeatedly detailed his plans for copyright reform as part of the European Commission’s Digital Single Market Strategy to be unveiled in Brussels next week.
¨I would like to ask for cross-border access to the content and portability of the content, but it does not mean that we are wanting to destroy this principle of territoriality,¨ he explained.
¨It does not mean that after this reform there will only be pan-European licenses. If, for example, in a smaller Member State, film producers are expecting that the interest to buy those rights of the films is only in the neighbouring Member States, this will be acceptable. There is no need to sell pan-European licenses, no need to...

The idea of Adult Beginners is something that many of us can connect with on some attainable level, given that everyone has felt the ripple effects of a struggling economy in some way. Sure, it’s always enjoyable to hear about success, because positive stories inspire a bit of hope inside us struggling schmoes (albeit typically farfetched instances). But you know what? It’s equally important to know that we can fail and Still find that same success. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and people have been suffering for centuries, yet society’s new Insta-culture of immediate gratification has ruined any concept of building from the ground up. People are hungrier than ever, and want their gold-plated shark tanks installed, like, three years ago – but that’s not always what life has in mind.

Barbara shared an inspiring quote about how ‘everything will be Ok’ on her Twitter account on Mar. 14. Is she hoping to comfort former flame Justin?
Justin Bieber has not had an easy time lately. The pop superstar had quite a catastrophic week in London, between arriving late at a concert, going to the hospital, and even physically lashing out at pesky paparazzi! As he’s trying to recoup and pull himself back together, his former fling Barbara Palvin is tweeting inspirational messages. Is she hoping Justin will be comforted by her words?
Justin Bieber’s London Troubles
Justin’s nightmare in the UK seemed to begin on Mar. 1, his birthday, when his extravagant circus-themed party was a bust, leading the 19-year-old to proclaim it his “worst birthday” on Twitter. After that, the pop star showed up two hours late to his first concert at the O2 Arena on Mar. 4, arriving to boos from perturbed fans.

The 50th Ann Arbor Film Festival has announced its full line-up for this year. The festival focuses on short films and experimental work and has almost 200 films being screened this year. The festival will be continuing its popular Out Night screenings this year which focuses on Lgbtq-themed films. In attendance will be special guest Barbara Hammer to screen several of her films. Don Hertzfeldt is at the end of one journey and the beginning of another. The indie animator, perhaps best known for his brilliant 2000 short "Rejected," has been steadily churning out spectacularly eccentric animations for years, working on his own using a 2-D process largely of his own making. He doesn't even know how to sell out; his work bears little resemblance to anything mainstream. At the same time, the last decade of Hertzfeldt's cartoons shows his growth. While "Rejected" features little more than stick figures on a billowing piece of paper and occasional flashes of color, his more recent efforts erupt with marvelous special effects and explosive imagery. But he's still just a one-man band. Hertzfeldt came to the Sundance Film Festival this year to screen his latest short, "It's a Beautiful Day." Concluding a trilogy that began with 2006's "Everything Will Be Ok" and continued with 2008's "I Am So.

Between Lines by Kim Lawler is a series of aerial photographs taken in the Kimberley, far north Western Australia. This remote area is embedded with stories of Indigenous and non-Indigenous inhabitants and transitory visitors, and is scarred by multinational companies' resource development. Kim Lawler has lived in this region and her work is strongly influenced by the displacement of its peoples and the competing demands for natural resources. The extraordinary colour and beauty of these landscapes glow in these large scale pigment print photographs.

The Oscar category of animated short film doesn't tend to get a lot of attention, but in 2001 it was host to one of the most unlikely and awesome nominations in recent Academy Award history. Alongside a tasteful watercolor-based work about a father and daughter and a stop-motion drama set in plague-era Europe was Don Hertzfeldt's "Rejected," a profane, hilarious and brilliantly absurd short filled with non sequitur-spouting stick figures and fluffy creatures bleeding from lower orifices, one that imagined an animator driven mad by his hopeless attempts to please corporate sponsors. The film didn't win, but did fuel a devoted fan base that's followed Hertzfeldt in his staunchly independent career of crafting totally distinctive animated shorts that have grown in ambition and sophistication even as he's continued to hand-draw his work and avoid computer influence. His last title, "Everything Will Be Ok," won the short film...
