Storyline

After the closure of the mines in the German Ruhr region in the late 1970s, three young men are unemployed and unable to find jobs. Bored with the tedium of their lives, they steal a moving van full of furniture and start driving with no destination in mind. Anywhere will do, just as long as they get out and away. Along the way, they pick up a hitch hiking young girl, who joins them on their trip to freedom. However, soon they find the local police and other law abiding citizens from the region hard on their heels.

How to escape from depressions?
15 February 2006 | by See all my reviews

Dortmund in the 1970s: the last mining companies are going to be shut and more and more young people get unemployed. The same with Atze and his 3 Friends: they are unemployed, they are sitting around the whole day, playing with cubes or drinking, building their own car. But than one day, they took a parked truck and start their "tour" through the Ruhr-region in Germany ...

This film is brilliant, Adolf Winkelmann draws a real picture of those days in Dortmund and about the problems of the younger generation. in this movie, Winkelmann only used 3 or 4 professional actors/actresses like Tana Schanzara, the rest had been amateurs!
