For the most part, previous actors who’ve played the Doctor have welcomed the news that the Time Lord is about to become a woman for the first time with open arms. Since the announcement that Jodie Whittaker would be portraying the Thirteenth Doctor, several Doctor Who stars have congratulated the actress – including Peter Capaldi, Colin Baker and David Tennant.

Astronauts are in vogue right now in the movie making world. The memory of last year’s Gravity, a film which garnered many kind words from real space-walkers, is still very fresh. We all know that Christopher Nolan’s next movie Interstellar is set to dig out the Hollywood standard-issue spacesuits, too.
However, an astronaut telly show is something we haven’t seen for a while. American network TNT is looking to remedy that by bringing a four hour televisual biopic of Neil Armstrong to the small screen.
The miniseries, entitled One Giant Leap, will be adapted from a book by journalist Leon Wagener. Scripts will be written by Al Reinert, half of the writing team behind Apollo 13 and regular scripter for TV series From The Earth To The Moon.

Patiently standing in the checkout line at Stop & Shop today (which was mobbed because tomorrow is the first night of Passover) I did what so many of us do – browsed the covers of the tabloids. Kim Kardashian has gained more than 40 pounds during her pregnancy. And here I didn’t even know she was enceinte! Kate Middleton, who is also pregnant, fell while attending a royal function because her heel got stuck in a grating! (Oh, no!) Jennifer Aniston reveals her wedding dress! (Somehow I doubt that.)

With Percy dead, Division has been revamped to do good. Ryan Fletcher's at the helm with Nikita and Michael by his side. The government offered amnesty to any former Division agents that came in; and while many did, some of the most dangerous decided to go rogue.
In "3.0," the first task of the new Division was to track down these rogue agents, The Dirty Thirty, and take care of them. Their inaugural mission was to hunt down Martin, who discretely killed a CIA asset in Hong Kong.
The mission didn't go according to plan at all. Martin was smart and got suspicious when the model he was sleeping with received a wrong number phone call. With that chaos ensued, Martin broke the model's neck and called the police to report the assault in...

As many in the game industry (as well as those outside looking in) reflect on the tropes and treatment of women in games (and to a fair extent women and girl gamers), Lollipop Chainsaw hits the scene as a title that is, by design, guilty of the same tropes while gleefully upending them. Like Baoynetta, Lollipop Chainsaw is super aware of the kind of exploitative, hyper-sexual game it is, while at the same time giving us a giddily competent (and upbeat) heroine in chainsaw wielding zombie hunter Juliet Starling rambling around through an endless stream of horror and rock references, all set to a fantastic soundtrack.
Whether you think Suda51 and creative director/writer James Gunn went too far over the top or that they hit the sweet spot with winking at the audience just enough, it's a game whose content, points of reference, and ideas will be worth talking about for a while.

Sega's abrupt punting of the action brawler into Q1 2013 for the U.S. and Europe even has the game's devs scratching their heads.
That's the take from Platinum Games' Executive Director Atsushi Inaba, who took to Twitter yesterday to respond to the surprise move from a couple of weeks back, which saw the studios' fifth collaboration with Sega being released during the same window as the July 5th Japanese release.
Apparently, it's not as a result of the game being unfinished or anything: according to Inaba, the Western releases are finished. "First of all, we are done with all international versions of Anarchy Reigns. The delay is not due to further development on the game," he explained via Twitter posts. In the same series of posts, he says that Plantinum Games' hands are tied with regards to Sega's Q1 2013 release plans, although he does thank fans for their support.

DC Comics has announced that they are teaming up with Amazon to bring graphic novels to the new Kindle Fire, the first color e-reader by the internet merchant. The Kindle Fire will boast 100 titles at launch including Watchmen, Superman: Earth One, and Batman: Arkham City, with plans on expanding that library later on.

It’s excellent news that DC is officially launching their graphic novel titles in a digital format, but I can’t imagine why they are limiting themselves to the Kindle Fire, which only boasts a 7 inch screen (hardly an optimal viewing situation for graphic novels.) It seems like a much better idea to release them through ComiXology like their other titles. Releasing them through Kindle hardly limits their reach, but if they are optimized for a 7 inch screen it makes me wonder how they will look on a 10 inch tablet.

Not, remember, the series finale; that’s a year away. We have a Christmas special and an entire additional season Plus a series finale episode yet to come. Thank Goodness. But it’s still sad news that tonight is the last episode of the current season; we love Eureka. This one looks like a good one… but aren’t they all? Last week’s episode was “One Small Step.” This week’? “One Giant Leap.”
So… the truck makes a giant leap? Guess we’ll have to watch and see. As if we weren’t going to already!

The very good news for Fringe viewers is that somewhere between Episodes 3 and 6 of the coming season, John Noble and Joshua Jackson will reunite on screen.
As soon as Peter “ceased to exist” at the close of the Fox drama’s Season 3 finale, Fringe fans fretted: Will the show be able to salvage the father-son dynamic between Walter and his boy? One small step toward that goal would be for Noble and Jackson to share scenes in Season 4, but when last we looked into that, Noble had two episodes under his belt while Jackson had yet to report to the set.

Jack and Henry raced to stop parts of Gd (and Eureka) from being melting this week, due to exposure from genetically altered bat guano, while we took "One Small Step" towards the Astraeus launch.
Pop quiz: If you lived in Eureka, how long would it take you connect an exorbitant amount of poop on your car in the morning with returning and finding it melting just a couple of hours later? My wife and I put it together in about 45 seconds. Okay, I put it together in about 45 seconds. She only needed 35.
Given how Jack's intelligence, I find it impossible he wouldn't instantly have thought of the crap he found on car as a possible suspect for it melting. Especially since it happened when Taggart was around.
Don’t get me wrong, I was happy to see Taggart back in Eureka, I've missed him as a regular and always enjoy...

With a worldwide tally of $637.6 million and counting, Kung Fu Panda 2 has become the highest-grossing film ever directed by a woman. In this case, the honor goes to Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who made her directorial debut with the well-reviewed Panda 2 after working on the first Kung Fu Panda as head of story and the director of that film’s opening dream sequence. The New York African Film Festival begins Today New Yorkers, and the 2011 lineup is an impressive one!
Of note, several films that have been touted on this website (old and new) are scheduled to screen at this year’s festival, including, Andrew Dosunmu’s feature film directorial debut and Sundance 2011 entry, Restless City, in what I believe will be the film’s New York city premiere! The new "Transformers: Dark Of The Moon" trailer has hit the Internet, giving viewers a first look at the third installment in Michael Bay's robot-vs.-robot franchise. The trailer is surprisingly light on the Awesome explosions and robotic violence that will no doubt comprise 90 percent of the film, instead subtly setting up the movie's premise: that 41 years ago Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were sent to the moon not to collect space rocks, take soil samples and come up with clever one liners ("One small step..."), but to investigate a mysterious crash landing on the orb's dark side. What they found there was a ginormous wrecked spacecraft that was piloted by a mammoth, as-yet-unidentified robot (we're thinking Alpha Trion, one of the 13 original Transformers).

I guess I should be excited about tonight’s episode, as the last woman standing in the house is also the Hoh, so it’s sort of a rah-rah, girl power moment. Movieline's One-Page Screenplays have been many things, including epic (Rian Johnson's The Plains of Rothinian), smart-alecky (Diablo Cody's Father Approved), and just plain beautiful (Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick's One Small Step). But, we'd wager, they've never been controversial -- so why not have Tucker Max try his hand at one?
Max, for those unfamiliar, is the author of the drinking-and-debauchery memoir I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, which has been made into an independently-distributed film debuting this Friday. Since he started his own website in 2002, Max's true-life tales have won him a legion of devoted followers, and an equally passionate set of detractors who call his stories misogynistic.
What they'll make of his One-Page Screenplay remains to be seen. On with the show!

It's time for the latest installment of Movieline's One-Page Screenplay, the project meant to revolutionize the movie industry, mainly by reducing script coverage to a Twitter-surmounting two words (examples: "Is good." "Will Smith?" "Harvey hates"). Today, we've got a contribution from the writing duo of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who breathed life into the upcoming "zom-com" Zombieland.
Reese and Wernick know a thing or two about creating compelling alternate worlds -- after getting their start on the reality-tweaking Joe Schmo Show, they've since scripted Venom and Earth vs. Moon -- and we think you'll agree that the setting of One Small Step is their most fantastic yet. Enjoy!

Next week the world celebrates the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11 landing on the moon. Rightly so, because it was a feat made possible by political vision, scientific and industrial genius and, most importantly, truly awesome levels of human endurance, determination, creativity and courage.
Whatever else our failings as a species -- war, famine, the films of Joe Piscopo -- putting Neil Armstrong and Buzz Alrdin on the lunar surface on July 20, 1969, is something of which we can be forever proud.
Just see if you don’t still get the chills watching the footage that 500 mil...
