Twitter recently lost one of its premier chaos agents: Jaboukie Young-White, the ace comic responsible for maybe the best single act of trolling in the hellsite’s history.

“Live coverage here, as it happens,” Fox News’ Martha MacCallum declared Thursday with an on-screen Breaking News alert. “We are now minutes away from Hunter Biden’s arraignment in a Los Angeles courtroom!”
Mere hours after Donald Trump received the judicial equivalent of a spanking in the courtroom at New York City fraud trial, Biden’s courtroom appearance on the other side of the country had Fnc in a lather.
In the federal courthouse in downtown LA, Biden entered a not-guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Mark C. Scarci. The hearing, Biden’s first appearance in the case, lasted about 30 minutes with Trump-appointed judge Scarci making sure Biden was aware a warrant for his arrest could be issued if he failed to comply with any conditions of release like drinking or having a gun.
“Do you understand?” the judge asked.
“I do, your honor,” Biden responded, with his attorneys by his side.

Sun Valley, a sleepy ski resort nestled between Idaho’s mountain peaks, is about to see an invasion of Gulfstreams ferrying an embattled species of mogul. These media and tech CEOs are facing threats on several fronts — from labor strikes to plunging share prices to a possible recession. So they’re likely in need of some R&r when they hit Allen & Co.’s annual conference this week. The cloistered event is an off-the-record affair, with reporters cordoned off from the captains of industry. But it remains closely watched, having been the setting for major mergers and acquisitions over the years, from Comcast’s purchase of NBCUniversal to Disney’s deal for ABC. Here’s what’s on the minds of the C-suite set as they embark on their high-altitude retreat.
Succession Isn’t Just an HBO Drama
Bob Iger returns to Sun Valley after briefly ceding control of Disney to Bob Chapek.

Eight years after a Michael Jackson fan sued Sony and the singer’s estate over posthumous recordings the label released that were allegedly sung by an impersonator, the lawsuit has finally been settled.
In 2014, Jackson fan Vera Serova filed a class-action lawsuit against Sony Music, the Jackson estate, and producers claiming that three songs on the 2010 LP Michael — “Breaking News,” “Keep Your Head Up,” and “Monster” — were sold as Jackson recordings, even though Jackson’s own children, friends, and fellow artists believed they were sung by someone else.

Stephen Colbert was on a break when news broke that CNN was planning to pull back on the use of its “Breaking News” banner, a change directed by his former executive producer Chris Licht, who now helms the news network.
“I’ve been off for a week. I’ve missed you. I also missed a lot of news, which I did not miss. But there’s some new news about the news because CNN is cutting back on overhyping everything as ‘Breaking News,’ which means overhyping everything is now up for grabs. So we have ‘Breaking News.’”
Colbert then ushered in the use of CNN’s “Breaking News” graphic and alert music before sharing his own “Breaking News” report.
“Gentlemen, I stand before you shocked and terrified to report that what I’m saying right now means nothing,” Colbert said, mocking the network’s robust use of the graphic to date.

Laurence Fishburne (John Wick: Chapter 4) and Clifton Collins Jr. (Nightmare Alley) have signed on to star in the upcoming film Frank & Louis, which Petra Volpe is directing for Participant, Zodiac Pictures and Tyler Perry’s Peachtree & Vine Productions.
In Frank & Louis, a man serving a life sentence (Collins) takes an in-prison job caring for aging and infirm prisoners suffering from memory loss diseases—including one played by Fishburne. Volpe and Esther Bernstorff wrote the script. Participant will produce alongside Reto Schaerli and Lukas Hobi of Zodiac Pictures, and Perry and Tim Palen of Peachtree & Vine. Cora Olson is co-producing, with Jeff Skoll and Anikah McLaren of Participant serving as exec producers. McLaren, Elizabeth Haggard and Connor DeSha will oversee the project for Participant.

My name is Joe Bel Bruno, and I’m addicted to the news. CNN has been my habit of choice.
Lockdowns during the pandemic gave news junkies exactly what we needed — constant access to the relentless pace of 2020’s turbulent events — Covid breakouts, the George Floyd shooting, Black Lives Matter protests, and the presidential election. The dramatic theme music played before a “Breaking News” banner splashed across the screen was intoxicating for folks like us.
It came time to cut back when watching that much CNN programming gave me a sixth sense into exact phrases Dana Bash would use to frame a position and what color tie Don Lemon will wear the next night. Not to mention, a worried friend even told me it’s time to cut back. The network basically trained me as a viewer what to expect, the cadence of shows, and how to consume their reports.

BBC’s Breaking News Twitter account announced Mary Tyler Moore’s death Thursday — four years after it occurred. Moore, an Emmy-winning entertainer, died Jan. 25, 2017.
“US actress Mary Tyler Moore dies aged 80” was the headline on the obituary embedded in the now-deleted tweet. The tweet itself said her death was confirmed by her publicist.

The late actress trended on Twitter as a result of the tweet. Users spent Thursday morning and afternoon reminiscing about “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” suggesting followers listen to its theme song for a pick-me-up, while others posted tributes and memorials.

I never thought I would miss those inbred hillbilly freaks as much as I do right now…
Back in 2003, director Rob Schmidt and writer Alan B. McElroy dropped Wrong Turn on the world and took the “lost in the woods” horror drama to the next level. Introducing us to Three-Fingers, Saw-Tooth and One-Eye, West Virginia’s newest favorite family. Wrong Turn would also cement Eliza Dushku and Desmond Harrington as would be stars. I, honestly, bloody love that first movie and found it genuinely scary at the time, yeah it spawned about seven hundred and thirty three sequels that all pretty much sucked in comparison but they have remained a guilty pleasure in part due to my love of that original movie.

Neglected banker’s wife Sue Buttons (Allison Janney) finds all the attention she’s been missing from her marriage in the glow of the local media in “Breaking News in Yuba County.” A surprisingly violent small-town satire from director Tate Taylor that feels every bit as much a period piece as his 2011 hit “The Help,” despite taking place in the present day, “Breaking News” suggests a cross between such dark comedies as “To Die For” and “Fargo,” minus those films’ pitch-perfect balance between eccentricity and outrageousness. Here, Taylor wrings laughs from weird wigs and even wonkier carnage, rather than trusting his promising (if outdated) premise.
It’s Sue’s birthday, and nobody seems to care. Not her self-interested half-sister (Mila Kunis); not her suicide-hotline co-workers, who add insult to injury by celebrating a colleague’s birthday instead; and most hurtfully, not her husband Karl (Matthew Modine), who buys a bouquet of flowers … for his mistress.

An unexpected disappearance turns into a small town free-for-all in the new trailer for Tate Taylor’s Breaking News in Yuba County, which is set to arrive digitally and in select theaters February 12th.
The film stars Allison Janney as Sue Buttons, an under-appreciated suburban housewife who becomes an empathetic local celebrity overnight after her husband suddenly goes missing. While Sue relishes her newfound fame — spurred in part by coverage provided by her half-sister, a local news reporter played by Mila Kunis — the disappearance uncorks a deeper mystery involving a wide array of unique characters.

Last week, a 2014 lawsuit brought by a Michael Jackson fan against Sony Music and the singer’s estate— which alleges that three songs on the posthumously released “Michael” album do not actually feature Jackson’s vocals — rose into public view when an onlooker misunderstood a comment by an attorney to mean that Sony had admitted that Jackson did not perform on the song. After online articles reported the inaccurate conclusion arising from the comment, reps for the estate and Sony quickly moved to clarify the matter and deny any such statement.
On Tuesday, three appeals court judges ruled in the estate and Sony’s favor, essentially removing the two parties from the class-action suit, which was brought by fan Vera Serova in 2014. Tuesday’s ruling — on an appeal brought by the estate and Sony — ruled that because the estate and Sony did not know for certain whether Jackson sang on the three songs,...

Despite recent reports, Sony Music Entertainment is not admitting to putting out fake Michael Jackson songs. In 2014, a fan named Vera Serova filed a class-action lawsuit against the record company. She alleged that the King of Pop may not be the lead singer heard on the songs "Breaking News," "Monster" and "Keep Your Head Up," featured on the 2010 album Michael. It is the first of two posthumous LPs released after Jackson's 2009 death. "No one has conceded that Michael Jackson did not sing on the songs," Sony Music said in a statement to Variety on Friday.
