It’s that time of year when the Christmas/ Holiday/ Winter Solstice/Hanukkah/ Kwanzaa Specials come out. Not all different ones of course, but these days the books try and be inclusive and include all the above. DC have cleverly sidestepped the yearly outrage at using either Christmas or Holidays in the title. Life’s too short. I’ve been enjoying these seasonal specials in one shape or another for many years, going back to the late 70’s. I still have most of them and still read them every year in the run up to Christmas. Digital now means I don’t even have to fight my way into the correct comic storage box too, an annual tradition I’m pleased to let go. The stories are generally light and a bit of fun, but that’s the spirit of the season.

"Teen Titans Go!" releases chapter 3 of its digital comic on Saturday (Jan. 11), and you can get a first look at the Cartoon Network-based artwork here. What happens when the Titans get involved with reality television?
After watching a popular show, "Jump City's Got Your Talent Right Here!," Starfire decides to sign up and show off her own talent. Of course, this is certain to go horribly wrong. It's fun to watch in the meantime though.
Written by Sholly Fisch, with art by Lea Hernandez and a cover from Dan Hipp, chapter 3 of "Teen Titans Go!" is available via the DC Comics and Comixology apps and on Nook, iBookstore, Kindle and Google Play.
"Teen Titans Go!" airs Wednesdays on Cartoon Network.

Grant Morrison is one of the greatest writers Superman has ever had – if not the greatest. His book All Star Superman remains the high water-mark of quality for all Superman books and his understanding of the character is so profound that his stories have qualities to them that few other stories possess. So it’s always cause for celebration when a new Superman book comes out with Morrison’s name on the cover – and Bulletproof is no exception.
While the first Action Comics book was a patchy affair in terms of quality, I think the second book is far better – the stories are more ambitious and sophisticated and they all contain many great Superman moments. But given the New 52 label and that this is only the second book in this reboot, I feel Morrison’s advanced storytelling approach and use of pre-New 52 continuity could throw and alienate the new readership...

Grant Morrison’s head is brimming and bursting with ideas, so it’s only fitting that his pages follow suit. A vast swelling of content and a multitude of loose ends has led the conclusion of his triumphant run on Action Comics to run over into this extra ‘extension’ issue. The additional pages are entirely validated: Superman struggles through his continued climactic battle with the demon from Dimension-5, as the spectre of death hangs in the air and a flurry of supporting characters confer over the implications of the Man of Steel’s probable demise.
The sky is red, the end is nigh and references to Superman’s previous death at the hands of Doomsday have been aptly drawn in the preceding instalments. As far as exits go,...

Pretty much the comic book Oscars, the 2012 nominations for the Eisner awards have been announced. There is quite are large showing from Marvel in the superhero department, not so much from DC. Surprising, considering the company’s high profile New 52 relaunch. Save for Jeff Lemire’s nomination for Best Writer, most of DC’s nomination are pre-relaunch, or from their Vertigo imprint which has been left untouched by the New 52. The nominations are usually as controversial as the Oscars, with books and whole companies being left out, much to fans, sometimes, anger and confusion.
A full list of the nominations are below, courtesy of Bleeding Cool, and the award will take place at this years San Diego Comic Con.

As many of you may already know, each and every year, awards distributed at San Diego Comic Con to a few select (and noteworthy) nominees who are chosen by retailers and professionals in the comic book industry. The ceremony is better known as the Eisner Awards which is now heading into its 24th year with some great talent in the running. One of the most loved titles in this year’s nominee list is Marvel’s Daredevil, picking up 6 nominations that include Best Continuing Series, Best Single Issue, Best Writer (Mark Waid), Best Cover Artist (Marcos Martin), and Best Penciller/Inker Team Marcos Martin, and Paolo Rivera/Joe Rivera). DC also scored some decent recognition with their iZombie Vertigo series, gathering 3 nominations (Cover Art, Coloring, Inker/Penciller) for the creative team.

With Action Comics #9, two acclaimed guest artists will explore an alternate Earth and the story of its Kryptonian protector. Multiple Eisner Award-winning artist Gene Ha will be a guest artist for the primary plot, penned by regular series writer Grant Morrison. And fresh from his recent work on The Shade miniseries, artist Cully Hamner will illustrate the issue’s back-up story, written by Sholly Fisch. Parallel worlds come to the forefront of DC Comics-The New 52 “Second Wave,” with titles such as Earth 2 and Worlds’ Finest exploring the adventures of heroes on alternate Earths. Action Comics #9 sets up the multiverse with a standalone story of a Superman from another Earth, who must fight a monster from yet another parallel world. For the past few months, almost every time I’ve venture to my local comic book store I heard a slew of mixed opinions about writer Grant Morrison’s Action Comics, how they’re dropping the series and overall how the book has been lower than their expectations. However I walked into my Lcs yesterday to find that every-single-copy had sold and that the book was the talk of the shop, after reading I can fully see why this issue was eaten up by the public so quickly.
Upon first glance this issue may be seen as a filler tale to let regular artist Rags Morales catch up with the busy schedule, and to some extent it is.

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this March. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.8 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant pile of Christmas tinsel since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The first fill-in artist on Justice League, although Gene Ha is certainly no slouch in that department. We also have new writers on Firestorm and Green Arrow, new backups in Justice League and Action Comics, and the DC 52 hits lucky number 7.
Shall we see who is the fariest of them all? Oh indeedy, let’s do!

Book: Action Comics #4
Written By: Grant Morrison / Sholly Fisch (Backup Story)
Pencils By: Rag Morales / Brad Walker (Backup Story)
Publisher: DC Comics
Price: $3.99
Pages: 40
God I’m trying so hard to like this book. It does so many things right but then it goes and messes on itself a couple of times and like a tired parent I get frustrated from having to tidy it up. This is one of the most action based issues of the series so far however it has some quite odd and little nonsensical moments that bring me back to square one.
The story’s pace has finally picked up and we have hit our first punch up between Superman and Braniac (or rather his possessed drones, one being John Metallo Corben) as he decends on Metropolis. It’s an enjoyable scene however the pacing became jarring at times (more on that later...

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this February. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.9 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant stack of returned copies of Holy Terror since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The new look of Darkseid, and we’re far enough into the new 52 books that it’s time for Batman to start crossing over in all of them. Plus Mara Jade, the red-haired assassin who fell in love with her blond-haired man she was sent to kill– oh, I’m sorry, that’s from Star Wars. This is Mera in a jade outfit. Our mistake.
Shall we? Surely!
As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

Starting with issue #4, Action Comics will begin to feature 8 page back up stories which will tie directly into the main 20 page story. The first will feature the New 52 debut of Steel and will be written by Sholly Fisch (Brave And The Bold). Here is a first glimpse at the new Steel prototype armor by Brad Walker, based off a design by Rags Morales.. From DC's The Source.. The lead story in Action #4 by Grant Morrison and Rags Morales features the debut of the “New 52” Steel! Last we saw of John Henry Irons, in Action #2, he had quit his military job in protest over Lex Luthor torturing Superman under General Lane’s command. Now, as the Terminauts lay siege to Metropolis, it’s time for John Henry to put his money where his mouth is and go help Superman defend the city. The backup in #4 ties into...

Once again, a look into the future, with some very interesting looks at the past, including the reprinting of a comic that was never released in America in the first place, the infamous Elseworlds 80 Page Giant that was pulped because of concerns about Superman’s babysitter.
