SAG-AFTRA has been on strike since July 14, 2023 after the AMPTP failed to meet their reasonable terms for a new contract. Those terms included many things like protections against studios using AI to recreate performers’ likeness in perpetuity, fees for late payments made by the studios, and increase in penalties for productions not allowing adequate meal breaks or rest periods while on set. While all of these things are important and necessary for the union to continue fighting for, one of the issues that union members have been most vocal about is the need to update the residual payment process in the streaming era.
Actors from Sean Gunn to Mandy Moore have shared the pennies in payments they’ve received in streaming residuals from their major roles in popular shows like Gilmore Girls and This is Us. Aaron Paul is the latest to make headlines for how little he’s made in residuals,...

Snoop Dogg is sharing his thoughts over streaming residuals and asking where the money is at as the writers’ and actors’ strikes have brought Hollywood to a standstill.
WGA and SAG-AFTRA are standing up to the studios and Snoop Dogg understands their fight as he delivered a passionate speech during an event at the Milken Institute this week.
“The streaming gotta get their shit together because I don’t understand how the f**k you get paid off of that shit,” the rapper said. “I mean, can someone explain to me how you can get a billion streams and not get a million dollars? Disney CEO Bob Iger recently sat down with CNBC for an interview during which he shared his views on the SAG-AFTRA strike.
“It’s very disturbing to me. We’ve talked about disruptive forces on this business and all the challenges we’re facing, the recovery from Covid which is ongoing, it’s not completely back. This is the worst time in the world to add to that disruption,” Iger said in that interview.
“I understand any labour organization’s desire to work on behalf of its members to get the most compensation and be compensated fairly based on the value that they deliver,” Iger continued, but chided the union for setting goals he characterized as unrealistic.
“There’s a level of expectation that they have, that is just not realistic,” he said of striking actors. “And they are adding to the set of the challenges that this business is already facing that is,...

"Ho ho ho! I'm going to unwrap your skull." Have a holly, jolly Christmas! It's the best time of the year... As long as Santa isn't killing you, then there will be plenty of cheer. How about a fun Christmas horror short to warm up these holiday days? Jolly is a new short film by from Todd Spence & Zak White. The two have been cooking up under-5-minute, low budget horror shorts for the last few years - including Where Is It and this year's Fear Wish. Jolly, about an animatronic Santa head, also stars Todd Spence with Zak White as the voice of Santa. These guys are damn good at putting together homemade shorts that are slyly entertaining and extremely creepy without much happening, which isn't as easy at it seems. Just don't make Santa angry. Thanks to Todd for the tip on this. Description from YouTube: "An...

"Which one of these houses do you live in?" Don't forget your mask! Or else. This creepy new horror short is from filmmakers Zak White and Todd Spence, the same duo that makes lots of horror shorts all year long for Midnight Video. Face Mask is their latest creation, a social commentary horror about the pandemic and dangerous anti-mask idiots, as well as a very unsettling short with a wicked twist. When one man takes the trash out and is confronted by a neighbor one night, things get a bit tense. Starring Bill Parmentier and Zachary Allen Farmer. The mask guy's look and voice and everything about him is just so creepy. Spence & White, who let Adam Huber & Dan Allen direct this one, are always so good about taking a simple concept and making it super scary with some discomforting filmmaking tricks. And also writing something that comments on the...

"In order to wish for something you need, you gotta wish for something you fear. Otherwise that first wish goes away." Yet another tense, low key horror short film from Todd Spence & Zak White. The two have been cooking up under-5-minute, low budget horror shorts for the last few years - including Where Is It and last year's Your Date is Here. Fear Wish is their latest short and it's about a desperate man trying to wish for something he needs. Starring Nathan Sutton, with Scott Whyte and Amy McRoberts. I really enjoy their shorts because they're so simple but effective, taking a jump scare and clever concept and wrapping it with some quality writing. They're not reinventing the horror-short-wheel, but they are always fun to watch. Thanks to Todd for the tip on this. The movie Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark has its own official twitter that it has used to keep fans updated with pictures, drawings, clips, and posters. We have a new poster this week with the tease, “This week will be scary. More coming soon…”, with a little spider emoji at the end.
This poster is very cool, and it features a girl clad in pink, standing in a pink bathroom, looking in the mirror, horrified at the sight of the giant bump protruding from her cheek. It’s awful to see and think about it happening to you. Check it out:

A few months ago, one of the topics discussed on a "Horrigins" episode of Corpse Club was that there are a lot of amazing short films out there, but it can be hard for fans to keep up with all of the content that gets released over time. With that in mind, this writer thought it would be fun to turn the spotlight onto the short format horrors on the internet once a month with our new column series, Daily Dead Salutes Your Shorts.
For our second installment, we have quite the variety of shorts for your enjoyment, including Your Date is Here from Todd Spence and Zak White, the perfect tribute to everyone’s favorite cuddly creatures in Gremlins: Recall, the award-winning short Dawn of the Deaf, and Zena S. "Maybe you got the dweeb?" Just in time for some Valentine's Day scares, enjoy this new horror short film from filmmakers Todd Spence and Zak White called Your Date is Here. It's nice and short (only 6 minutes!), with a fun premise, and it's effective at building up the suspense. Your Date is Here stars Becca Flinn and Dani Tiernan as a mother and daughter playing a board game one night. Things start to get weird and creepy as they keep playing, and then the pizza shows up. I'm always impressed by how easy it is to take such a simple premise, with only two characters, and create a short film that is actually effectively scary and gripping to watch. The power of great filmmaking! You don't even need a huge budget to make a good film. Official description from YouTube: "After dusting off an old Mystery Date-style board game,...

"Oh, that's okay, it came with the house anyway, so... no big deal, I guess!" We're almost into October, which means it's just about time for the horror season. To kick things off (a bit early) we're sharing this fun, freaky horror short film titled Where Is It, from co-directors Zak White and Todd Spence. This clever little horror short is about two friends who connect up over FaceTime for a chat. One of them just returned home from a trip, and the other watched her house while she was away. She accidentally broke an old mirror that was on the wall, neither thinks much of it. But apparently it has some importance to someone in the house. Thanks to io9 for the tip on this short. Listen, we’re not trying to say all Westerns are the same, but there are some unexpected similarities between Back To The Future III and the HBO series Westworld beyond their Wild West settings. Both center on contemporary people transplanted into an old-timey way of life, allowing us to experience the Old West through modern eyes. Both feature a white-haired scientist whose motives are never quite clear. And both star kind but occasionally aggressive heroes alongside ingénues with hidden strengths.
Admittedly, those parallels only go so far—namely because Back To The Future III doesn’t feature any lifelike robots moving closer and closer to a revolution. But that didn’t stop Todd Spence from creating a pretty effective mashup of the two anyway.

If you're a fan of Back to the Future and the HBO series Westworld, you've got to watch this fantastic fan trailer that combines the two! It's called "Back to Westworld," and it thrusts Marty into the dark and exciting world of Westworld where Buford “Mad Dog” Tannen is clearly a host. The video was edited together by Todd Spence, and I loved how it turned out.
How funny would it be to see Marty McFly actually show up in Westworld as an older man after going through the experiences he has already gone through. This mashup video is the closest thing we'll get to seeing that, so enjoy!

When Ben Affleck was cast to play Batman for the upcoming Batman v Superman film, there were many cries of discontent. Well, those fanboys and fangirls are going to be extremely angry when they see a YouTube video where Affleck plays both superheroes. The faux promo for BvS was created by Todd Spence (who, on his Twitter feed, calls himself a “Comedy guy. Writer. Painter.”). It features clips from the upcoming superhero battle royale spliced together with footage from the 2006 film Hollywoodland, where Affleck played the original Superman, George Reeves. That’s where things get wacky. The real Batman v Superman hits theaters this Friday, March 25. Or, if you’ve read the reviews already and have been scared away, maybe just watch the video.

Welcome to Outrage Watch, HitFix's semi-regular rundown of entertainment-related kerfuffles. Not feeling anxious enough already? Get your fix of righteous indignation below, and stay posted for outrage updates throughout the week. Just when you start getting excited about the new Indiana Jones, Friday has to come around and steal all your joy: David Koepp, longtime Steven Spielberg collaborator who wrote the widely-reviled Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (and directed Mortdecai, but let's not go there) has officially signed on to pen the script for the fifth installment. But first, in fairness: the controversial idea to insert aliens into the Indiana Jones universe was not Koepp's but, famously, producer George Lucas's, who at this point has no involvement with the upcoming movie. Also in fairness: let's not forget that Koepp wrote Jurassic Park for Spielberg and boasts other well-regarded credits including Sam Raimi's Spider-Man and David Fincher's Panic Room.

We love mash-up trailers here at The Movie Bit, we’re quite partial to the latest effort from the Mission: Impossible franchise, Rogue Nation, and we think Chris Farley is a comedy genius. So, you can believe how delighted we were to see this mash-up from Todd Spence, which replaces Tom Cruise with the comedy legend, creating something absolutely wonderful, and proving Cruise wasn’t the first person to dangle from a plane as it was taking off. As much as we loved Rogue Nation, I think we want to see this movie more. Check it out below.

You can always count on the internet for a quirky, yet kind of perfect mash-up of two seemingly unrelated properties, and that's just what we have here in this clip of comedian Chris Farley edited into the trailer for "Mission: Impossible -- Rogue Nation."
In the video, created by YouTuber Todd Spence, the late Farley is spliced into the trailer in place of series star Tom Cruise. While Farley and Cruise may not seem to have much in common, the goofy clip somehow works nevertheless, including a spot-on usage of footage from the flick "Black Sheep," and the scene where Farley's character gets his jacket caught in an airplane door, and it takes flight with him flailing and trying to hold on.
That replaces Cruise's death-defying (and real) airplane stunt from the original trailer, but honestly, Farley's version works just as well. Plenty of other clips from "Black Sheep" and...

There's an insane parody of kids' rainy-day activity books making the rounds this week that lets you color scenes from some well-known movies – which doesn't seem at all unusual until you discover that the scenes depicted within its pages aren't taken from the latest Disney/Pixar blockbuster, but from some of the darkest, least kid-friendly classic movies ever made. There Is a 'True Detective'/Hardy Boys Book Cover Mashup, Because Of Course The joke is that the Hardy Boys are for kids and 'True Detective' is for adults. by Liam Mathews It's an obvious joke, but a good one. In fact, it's shocking that it took until two weeks after the first season of True Detective came to a close for someone to Photoshop Rust and Marty into Hardy Boys book covers. These are beloved American crime-solving duos, one from the past, one from the present. They juxtapose neatly: The Hardy Boys are clean-cut, wholesome young men who solve crimes usually ranging from petty to grand larceny, while the True Detective guys are world-weary alcoholic philanderers who solve quasi-Satanic rape-murders. Yes, it's been a couple weeks now since we said goodbye to "True Detective," but the show is still inspiring all kinds of parodies and tributes. From the Batman-themed opening credits to the Seth Rogen and Patton Oswalt spoof to Martin Hart witnessing the Red Wedding, the Internet has had plenty of fun with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. And now another creative take on the show has landed. Todd Spence has created illustrated book cover versions of the original boy detectives—The Hardy Boys—but swapped in Marty and Rust for Frank and Joe.
