Amy Forsyth and Christian Cooke have joined the cast of “Plainclothes,” a new independent film from writer-director Carmen Emmi. They will star alongside Tom Blyth and Russell Tovey, who Variety previously reported would lead the project.
Set in the ’90s and inspired by true events, the film follows a working-class undercover officer tasked with entrapping and apprehending gay men, only to find himself drawn to one of his targets. The film is produced by Arthur Landon, Colby Cote, and Eric Podwall on behalf of Page 1 Entertainment and Lorton Entertainment. Alex Wenger and April Kelley will co-produce.
Forsyth will play Emily, ex-girlfriend and trusted confidant to Lucas (Blyth). She received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for best supporting actress for her role in the 2021 film “The Novice.” She was also seen in the Oscar-winning film “Coda” that same year. Any new show by producer Frank Doelger – whose credits include “Game of Thrones,” “The Swarm,” “John Adams” and “Rome” – must rate as an event. That event takes place Oct. 17 at Cannes Mipcom trade fair, with the world premiere of “Concordia,” on which Doelger serves as executive producer and showrunner.
Produced by Intaglio Films, a joint venture of Zdf Studios and Beta Film, which share international distribution, “Concordia” is backed by a powerful partnership of Zdf, Mbc, France Télévisions and Hulu Japan. Shot in English, the six-part series is directed by Barbara Eder.
“Concordia” begins in classic Noir style cutting from a seeming suicide on a windswept moor to the discovery of a young man’s dead body, found beside a road just outside Sweden’s Concordia, a attempt to create a utopia powered by AI surveillance to ensure a fairer, more humane and safer society.

[This story contains spoilers for “International Break,” the 10th episode of Ted Lasso season three.]
Ted Lasso’s title character is mostly off screen in this episode, which scattered several AFC Richmond players as they suited up for their national teams and left those at home with less to do at Nelson Road than a normal week during the club season. The show has pulled focus away from Ted and the club successfully in the past, but “International Break” felt somewhat disjointed.
Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) getting a new measure of closure with Rupert played well, and the seemingly inevitable reunion between Roy (Brett Goldstein) and Keeley (Juno Temple) had its moments too. Nate’s (Nick Mohammed) story, on the other hand, still feels like it’s missing beats, while Sam (Toheeb Jimoh) is forced to take another setback.

"If you go back inside, you'll never get out." Vertical Ent. has released an official trailer for The Informer, the crime thriller about an undercover ex-cop in a prison. This was supposed to open last year - we already featured two trailers last year. It was pushed until early 2020, then the pandemic hit and they kept delaying it - until the end of summer. But now they're just scrapping theatrical release plans entirely and dumping it on VOD this November - more than a year after its initial release date in August of 2019. The film is about an ex-con who goes undercover and intentionally gets himself incarcerated again in order to infiltrate the mob at a maximum security prison. The film stars Joel Kinnaman as Pete Koslow, who gets "caught in the middle of dangerous people with their own priorities." The action thriller also co-stars Rosamund Pike, Clive Owen, Common,...

"No offense, but none of you lot look like the killing type." The film is titled Agatha and the Truth of Murder, and originally premiered on TV in the UK in late 2018. It's not slated for release in the Us in the fall of this year. With a script by Tom Dalton (The Pharmacist), set in 1926, the film depicts Agatha Christie investigating the murder of Florence Nightingale's goddaughter and how her involvement in this case then influenced her writing. Ruth Bradley stars as Agatha Christie, with a cast including Dean Andrews, Bebe Cave, Amelia Dell, Richard Doubleday, Derek Halligan, Blake Harrison, Pippa Haywood, Stacha Hicks, and Ralph Ineson. It looks suitably mysterious and alluring, no doubt. Here's the official trailer...

Exclusive: Viacom’s Channel 5 has hunted down two more Agatha Christie dramas following the success of last year’s Agatha and the Truth of Murder.
The British broadcaster has commissioned Agatha and the Curse of Ishtar (w/t) and Agatha and the Death of X (w/t) from Endemol Shine’s Darlow Smithson Productions (Dsp). The two feature-length crime dramas are part of the network’s ramping up in the scripted genre over the last twelve months.
Agatha and the Curse of Ishtar, which will air later this year, sees author Agatha Christie travel to the deserts of Iraq in the late 1920s for an archaeological dig where she unravels a series of mysterious murders. Agatha and the Death of X is set in the Blitz in 1940s London, as the author decides she must kill off her most famous creation, and in doing so, becomes a target herself.

AMC and Channel 4’s sci-fi series “Humans” has been canceled after three seasons, an AMC spokesperson has confirmed to TheWrap.
Executive producers and writers Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent shared the news via Twitter on Monday.
“Sadly there won’t be a 4th season of ‘Humans.’ In this age of unprecedented choice and competition, we can have no complaints. Channel 4 & AMC were the perfect partners. They supported the show brilliantly and above all — let us make three seasons!” the pair wrote in a joint statement tweeted from Vincent’s account. “We know we left some threads hanging. That was the way we always wrote the show. Maybe one day we’ll get a chance to pick them back up. If there’s anyone out there with a few million quid and an interest in AI stories, we’re all ears.”

"If you go back inside, you'll never get out..." Aviron Pictures has released the first official trailer for a gritty new crime thriller titled The Informer, formerly known as Three Seconds before this new title, a film about an ex-con who goes undercover and intentionally gets himself incarcerated again in order to infiltrate the mob at a maximum security prison. The film stars Joel Kinnaman as Pete Koslow, who gets caught in the middle of dangerous people with their own priorities. The film's cast includes Rosamund Pike, Clive Owen, Common, Ana de Armas, Sam Spruell, Ruth Bradley, Martin McCann, and Jenna Willis. Looks like one of those films that's extra convoluted just to give a crime action movie some plot that usually involves the CIA or FBI getting mixed up with criminals, and a good person having to risk everything to live. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Andrea Di Stefano's The Informer,...

Feature documentaries about Chaka Khan and Prince are on Kew Media Distribution’s slate for the Afm. Kew is building a profile in music documentaries, launching “Chuck Berry” at Mipcom and recently sealing deals with Showtime and Sky for “Teddy Pendergrass – If You Don’t Know Me.”
In Michael J. Kirk’s “Mr Nelson: On the North Side,” Spike Moss, a musical mentor of Prince, talks about the origin and influences that shaped the star’s musical skills. In turn, musical icons including Chuck D, Macy Gray and Chaka Khan recount stories of Prince and how he inspired them. It is the latest factual project about Prince since his death in 2016.
“Chaka Khan: Keep On Holdin’ On” tells the life story of 10 time Grammy Award winner Chaka Khan, including her time as a civil rights activist and member of the Black Panther movement. Another music feature documentary from Kew and...

Does this sound familiar? A meteor crashes to Earth, near human habitation, “something” comes out of the meteor and proceeds to run amok among the local human populace. Or it could be a human built space craft, returning from Mars, Venus or the moon and “something” gets loose near a city or small town and creates mayhem every where it goes. Or it could be an alien spacecraft, or even big seed pods.
My point being, this is one well used concept in science fiction movies, especially science fiction monster movies. You wouldn’t think there was much film makers could do to return to that story and do something new with it. The fine Irish film crew that created Grabbers did exactly that.
Part of my post duty orders here at We Are Movie Geeks is to shine a spotlight on little known and largely unseen moves that deserve a larger audience.

Just what is it that makes us human? That is the question that is asked in this episode of Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams. With Bryan Cranston starring in this episode, a lot of expectation had built up around it. Does it live up to the hype that the Breaking Bad actor brings?
When Silas Herrick (Bryan Cranston) returns from a disastrous mission to Rexor IV he comes back a changed man. When Vera (Essie Davis) notices the changes, she likes the new him. When it seems that he could be a Rexorian though, will she give up the new better husband?
In Human Is we see Silas as an abusive husband in an unloving relationship. Emotionless and cold he pushes Vera to find comfort by other means. This is why his return from Rexor IV is so strange. He comes back as a loving man who gives her everything that she ever wants.

Channel 4 and Amazon are bringing us a Phillip K Dick anthology series that's worth getting excited about...
Philip K. Dick’s writing has been translated to the screen numerous times, with most of the results being brilliant in their own ways: Blade Runner remains one of the best-loved sci-fi films of all time; Minority Report stands out as one of the best Tom Cruise movies; Total Recall, the first one, has cult classic status; and The Man In The High Castle has really captured imaginations over the last couple of years.
See related Looking back at Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
Now, Amazon and Channel 4 are teaming up to offer fans an unprecedented number of Dick-adapted stories all at once. Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams is an anthology series, arriving this autumn, which gives short stories from the iconic author a Black Mirror sort of treatment.

Can a human and a machine love one another? This is the question Humans dedicates itself to not only asking, but to asking in as many ways possible.
The show exists in a setting familiar to most science-fiction fans: a world in which lifelike humanoid machines populate society’s homes and businesses. Like the hosts of Westworld or the replicants of Blade Runner, they’re anatomically identical to humans and nearly blend in with humans. However, unlike hosts and replicants, the “Synths” of Humans do not think, trick, manipulate, feel or lie. That is, except for a select few – Niska, Mia, and a handful of others – who are disrupting expectations due to their “consciousness code.”

Another Sunday and another installment of VOD Vault, taking a look at some of this weeks on-demand releases that have hit various VOD platforms here in the UK. This week we have a very seasonal edition, featuring two films that take a horrific look at the holidays…
Krampus
Stars: Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Allison Tolman, Conchata Ferrell, Emjay Anthony, Stefania Lavie Owen, Krista Stadler | Directed by Michael Dougherty
Krampus has seemingly become the de jour villain in the horror genre recently. We’ve already had two movies featuring the evil anti-Santa, Krampus: The Christmas Devil and Krampus: The Reckoning; and now comes a third. Although unlike its seasonal brethren, this Krampus at least made it into cinemas – and so it should have. This is the latest film from director Michael Dougherty, who exploded onto the UK horror scene a few years back when his Halloween anthology Trick ‘r’ Treat was screened at Frightfest.
