Kate Beckinsale, Scott Eastwood and James Cromwell will star in kidnapping drama “Stolen Girl” directed by Britain’s James Kent.
“Stolen Girl,” which is in pre-production in Southern Italy’s Apulia region, is inspired by the real story of an American woman named Maureen Dabbagh who spent years tracking down her daughter who had been abducted and taken to the Middle East by the child’s father.
In the film, which starts out in 1993 in Ohio, Maureen’s 6-year-old daughter Amina is snuck out of the country by her ex-husband, Karim. After years of unsuccessful attempts to find her, Maureen intersects with a professional retriever of internationally abducted kids who promises to help her find Amina in exchange for her collaboration. Maureen eventually succeeds in tracking down her ex-husband and Amina in Beirut, where she will face “the most difficult decision of her life,” according to a provided synopsis.

Terry Crews is a serial entertainer. The energetic actor has a muscular physique that action icons Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger were impressed with when they worked with him on The Expendables franchise. However, despite the hulking image, Crews would not limit himself to action movies as he would use his charismatic charm for such sitcoms like Everybody Hates Chris and Are We There Yet?, as well as being the host for the reality competition, America’s Got Talent. Crews is now ready to throw some fists and let the bullets fly yet again. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crews will be seen in an upcoming action-comedy that will co-star the equally charismatic muscleman, Dave Bautista. Crews and Bautista have recently wrapped filming on The Killer’s Game.
The film’s synopsis, as reported by THR, says, “Based on Jay Bonansinga’s novel, The Killer’s Game follows a veteran assassin (Bautista), who,...

Amazon is heading to North Carolina with the creators of Netflix’s drama Outer Banks.
The retailer and streamer has handed out an eight-episode, straight-to-series order for The Runarounds, a music drama that follows a post-high school band as they try to make it big. The series is not a spinoff of Outer Banks but it does feature the same group — The Runarounds — that was previously featured in a season three episode of the hugely popular young adult drama on Netflix.
From Obx co-creator Jonas Pate and with a teleplay from David Wilcox (Fringe), the fictional drama is inspired by the real band of the same name and will star the group’s members — William Lipton (General Hospital), Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock and Jesse Golliher — as well as Lilah Pate and Kelley Pereira. Lilah Pate, the daughter of The Runarounds creator Jonas Pate, has had a recurring role in Obx.

AMC has ordered The Terror: Devil in Silver, a six-part series based on the novel written by Victor Lavalle. The story follows Pepper, “a working-class moving man who, through a combination of bad luck and a bad temper, finds himself wrongfully committed to New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital – an institution filled with the people society would rather forget. There, he must contend with patients who work against him, doctors who harbor grim secrets and perhaps even the very devil himself. As Pepper navigates a hellscape where nothing is as it seems, he finds that the only path to freedom is to face down the entity that thrives on the suffering within New Hyde’s walls. But doing so might prove that the worst demons of all live inside him.“

On Monday night, November 27, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, the Gotham Awards presented the winners at their 33rd annual event. “All of Us Strangers” went in with a leading four bids, followed by “Past Lives,” “The Zone of Interest” and the TV limited series “Beef” with three apiece. But who prevailed? Scroll down for the full list, updated throughout the night.
The nominations were decided by panels of film and television critics, journalists, festival programmers and film curators. The winners were then selected by juries of writers, directors, actors, producers, editors and others directly involved in filmmaking. That makes these awards unique and often results in surprising winners like “The Rider” for Best Feature in 2018 over the higher-profile “The Favourite,” or Danielle Deadwyler (“Till”) for Best Lead Performance in 2022 over eventual Oscar winners Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) and Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”). It turned out that “Everything Everywhere All at Once” was pretty much everything to every Oscar voter. Of its 11 nominations, it won seven, including the big one: Best Picture. The last Best Picture winner to win that many statuettes was “Gravity” in 2014.

Just when it seemed like “In the Bedroom” and “Little Children” writer-director Todd Field might never make another feature film, he announced that his 16-year hiatus would conclude with the 2022 release of “Tar.” The biting character study, which Field conceived at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, has now brought him some of the best notices of his career, including his first Best Director Oscar nomination. He now belongs to an elite group of individuals who have achieved academy recognition for producing, directing and both adaptive and original writing.
Field’s competitors in this year’s directing race are Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”), Martin McDonagh (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Ruben Ostlund (“Triangle of Sadness”) and Steven Spielberg (“The Fabelmans”). Spielberg is the only category veteran in the bunch, with eight previous nominations that led to a pair of victories for “Schindler’s List” (1993) and “Saving Private Ryan...

After a second consecutive awards season up-ended by the pandemic, the 2023 Oscars should see a return to relative normalcy. The 95th Academy Awards is set for March 12, 2023 in its traditional home, the Dolby Theater. Films released theatrically from January 1 to December 31 of 2022 are eligible for consideration. Scroll down for the 2023 Oscars Best Picture predictions.
Some of the early Oscar hopefuls were launched at Sundance in January and Cannes in May. Four more film festivals — Telluride Venice, Toronto and New York — will showcase more movies. Others will forego the festival circuit entirely.

Todd Field may be a man of few films, but he doesn’t lack for accolades. All three of the features he’s directed — In the Bedroom (2001), Little Children (2006) and Tár (2022) — have been bestowed multiple Oscar nominations, including best picture. Tár, which was also written by Field, stars Cate Blanchett as a renowned conductor brought down by allegations of personal transgressions. Like other films of the current era, the making of Tár was complicated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Field — who had worked in commercials in the intervening years since his last feature — also had to assemble a European crew, since much of the movie was shot in Germany, including Berlin and Dresden. Working in these settings, as well as with a real-life orchestra, brought its own challenges. Field has been a hands-on producer on the trio of movies he’s directed and shares a PGA credit for Tár with Scott Lambert and Alexandra Milchan.

Following a 16-year hiatus from feature filmmaking, “In the Bedroom” and “Little Children” writer-director Todd Field reemerged in 2022 to unleash his first original creation on the world (his previous films were adaptations). “TÁR” — an engrossing fictional character study and a deep analysis of how and why power is abused — is now up for six Oscars, including Best Picture. Since he was previously nominated for producing “In the Bedroom,” he could follow Jim Burke (“Green Book”) and Dan Janvey and Peter Spears (“Nomadland”) as the fourth person in five years to take the academy’s top prize on his second bid.

Cate Blanchett is wonderfully commanding as the sociopath musical megastar whose life is crumbling around her but it is the steely menace in Todd Field’s film that is simply delicious
The great crack-up of Lydia Tár, the Berlin Philharmonic’s entirely fictitious but docudramatically real-seeming chief conductor, has given the cinema its greatest spectacle, its greatest provocation and its greatest pleasure. If there is any justice, it will be producer-director Todd Field, with fellow producers Alexandra Milchan and Scott Lambert, who will be invited up on stage at the end of the evening to receive the climactic best picture statuette.

When Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams dropped the nominations for the 95th Oscars on Tuesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had for the first time in awhile the most wide open and competitive race in years.
There is something for everyone here. There are two billion-dollar-grossing films in the Best Picture mix in Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water. Both are sequels. This might well help the Oscarcast that have been in steady decline over the past pandemic-plagued years.
Also helping is the chance to see Rihanna and Lady Gaga perform their nominated tunes for Wakanda Forever and Top Gun: Maverick, respectively. They will compete against perennial nominee Diane Warren, who is up for the award yet again for the film Tell It Like A Woman. There is also the rousing theme from Rrr, and the prospect of Talking Heads leader David Byrne for Everything Everywhere All at Once.

“Gandhi” is the most nominated film at the BAFTAs with 16 nods and “All Quiet” ties with “Atonement,” which also had 14.
Close behind “All Quiet” with 10 nominations apiece are Searchlight’s “The Banshees of Inisherin” and A24’s “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” Warner Bros.’ “Elvis” follows with nine nominations, while Focus Features’ “Tár” received five nods.
