Given the weight and scope of Frank Herbert’s Dune, Denis Villeneuve’s decision to split his adaptation of the novel into multiple parts not only makes sense, but it allows for a clean division at the moment the story tips over from a narrative rooted in court intrigue and hostile power plays redolent of Old World Europe into one steeped in a lysergic blend of ecological fable and Islamic mysticism.
The first film ended with Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) escaping from a coup that left his ducal father dead and House Atreides’s hopes for control of the planet Arrakis shattered by their noble rivals, the Harkonnens. Left in Arrakis’s vast desert with his mother, Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), Paul falls in with the indigenous Fremen people, who view him as their possible messiah in a fight to regain control of their colonized planet and its invaluable spice resource.

[This story contains spoilers for The Fall Guy.]
After the many industry-wide challenges of the last four years, The Fall Guy screenwriter Drew Pearce just wanted to make a feel-good Friday night movie, and based on various metrics, the consensus among critics and audiences is that he and the rest of his collaborators succeeded. In ten years, the social framing around the David Leitch-directed movie won’t be that it opened to $27.7 million instead of a projected $30 million. Rather, the impression of a good action romcom will remain above all.
Pearce is no stranger to IP-driven films, as he’s officially written for Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3, the fifth Mission: Impossible film, Rogue Nation, as well as the Fast & Furious spinoff, Hobbs and Shaw. That also doesn’t include all the cups of coffee he’s had with other franchises in an uncredited capacity. So, compared to the aforementioned IP, the assumption is that The Fall Guy,...

Anya Taylor-Joy makes a very brief appearance in Dune: Part Two, but if and when Denis Villeneuve returns to helm his adaptation of Dune: Messiah, the Furiosa star will have a much more substantial role.
If you haven't seen the movie yet, spoilers follow.
In Part One, we learn that Paul Atreides' mother, the Bene Gesserit Lady Jessica, is pregnant with the late Duke Leto's child. When the Fremen take in the survivors of the Harkonnen massacre, Jessica agrees to become the tribe's new Reverend Mother (she isn't really given a choice) and is "persuaded" to drink the Water of Life (a blue substance that's been extracted from a juvenile sandworm).
This gives Jessica incredible foresight and knowledge of previous generations, while also awakening similar abilities in her unborn daughter, who begins to communicate with and seemingly influence her mother's actions.
When Paul ingests the same liquid later on in the movie,...

This article contains spoilers for "Dune: Part Two."
Denis Villeneuve's "Dune: Part Two" takes a few departures from Frank Herbert's original novel, perhaps most notably in the omission of Alia Atreides. Alia is Paul's young sister, born while he and his mother Jessica had survived the Harkonnen massacre and were hiding out with the desert-dwelling Fremen. In the book, Alia grows to toddlerhood supernaturally fast and already possesses a spate of eerie Bene Gesserit mental powers. She's also the one who, as a toddler, knifed the evil Baron Harkonnen to death.
Villeneuve figured that shooting in the desert with a toddler would be difficult and uncomfortable for a young actor, so he transformed Alia into a more abstract character. Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) now has psychic conversations with the still-growing fetus inside her womb, while Paul (Timothée Chalamet) has a dreamlike vision of an adult Alia, seemingly contacting him from the future.

Rebecca Ferguson is becoming close to a household name. O.K., maybe “close” is a slight exaggeration, but her profile is bigger than her social media presence, and that’s primarily because her resume over the past decade is filled with one banger after another. “The Greatest Showman,” three acclaimed “Mission: Impossible” flicks, a Best Picture nominee in “Dune” and, likely, a second Oscar nominee in her latest blockbuster, “Dune: Part Two.” And now, she’s up for a potential Emmy nomination as Juliette, a “sheriff” in a post-apocalyptic civilization trying to discover the truth behind the gigantic, multi-level “Silo” humanity is confined to.

Box office sands continue to flow for “Dune: Part Two,” which is nearing $700 million worldwide.
Director Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic has grossed $276 million in North America and $419 million overseas, bringing its global tally to $695.8 million after eight weeks of release. It’s an impressive benchmark in post-covid times; only five movies in 2023, eight in 2022 and five in 2021 managed to cross the $700 million mark.
At this point, “Dune 2” is the highest-grossing movie of 2024 at the domestic and worldwide box office. Outside of the U.S. and Canada, the biggest markets are the U.K. ($48.8 million), China ($48.5 million), France ($42.6 million), Germany ($39.7 million) and Australia ($22.5 million).
“Dune: Part Two” has far outgrossed its predecessor, 2021’s “Dune,” which generated $433 million while landing simultaneously on HBO Max. The sequel’s impressive staying power is thanks to several factors, including glowing word-of-mouth, an A-list ensemble led by Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, and interest in Imax and other premium formats.

This post contains spoilers for Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" films.
When the Atreides first arrive in Arrakis in "Dune: Part One," we get our first glimpse of the mystical sandworms from the aerial perspective of a roving ornithopter. Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac) notices the steady advent of the creature beneath the sand, the disturbance caused by its hidden scale leading up to an awe-inspiring scene: a gigantic, bottomless mouth swallowing one of the spice harvesting machines. As the Atreides do not know much about the Fremen and their relationship with Shai Hulud at this point, this first introduction feels even more intriguing, with a decided air of danger encircling the mysterious worm-like creatures.
Denis Villeneuve maintains the mystique surrounding the sandworms in "Part One" with the aid of a simple, yet effective strategy, where small glimpses of the creatures are peppered throughout to build up to the stunning reveal when...

The Godfather trilogy began in 1972 and is still considered one of the most iconic and influential films of all time. If you truly want to get into the essence of cinema, The Godfather is a must-watch for you. No wonder the film found a place for itself in the U.S. National Film Registry. It had a ton of unforgettable characters that filmmakers haven’t been able to replicate, even today. But now, it looks like Dune 2 has come to challenge this statement. At least, according to Denis Villeneuve.
The Godfather (1974)
In a recent interview, filmmaker Denis Villeneuve compared Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides to Al Pacino’s Michael Corleone. Given the fact that Michael Corleone is one of the most iconic and tragic characters in cinema history, it goes without saying that Denis Villeneuve’s comment has received mixed reactions from the fans of the film industry.

One of the biggest issues with Fallout that fans will take umbrage with is its short run time. The first season of Jonathan Nolan’s post-apocalyptic saga is only eight episodes long. At roughly an hour each, that’s just a single 9 to 5-hour shift! Definitely not enough time in the wasteland.
There’s nothing that can quite replicate the same feeling as Fallout. But some can come close. So, if you’ve finished the series and feel like you need more of the wasteland, here are five shows that can keep you busy until the second nuk—sorry, season drops.
5. The Last of Us The first season did a faithful retelling of the story of the first game and its Dlc.

As the upcoming Ryan Gosling–Emily Blunt crowd-pleaser “The Fall Guy” shows, doing stuntwork in Hollywood can be risky business. That is why you are supposed to leave it to the professionals.
But Chris Pratt decided to get in the mix a little bit during the production of his next film, “Mercy,” and the result didn’t go so well.
As he shared on Instagram, the “Jurassic World” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” actor, after saluting his stunt team, admitted he “sometimes tr[ies] to get in there and do some of my own stuff. Today, daddy caught a metal post to the ankle. Should be interesting moving forward.” He included the “thinky guy” emoji and two photos—one of a bandaged foot, the other looking a bit scratched and puffy. It’s unclear to what degree this injury will delay shooting.

Rebecca Ferguson decided to leave the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise because her character Ilsa Faust was becoming a "team player".The 40-year-old star's alter ego was killed off in 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One' and she felt it was the right time to bow out as Ilsa's "unpredictable" element was being taken away.Rebecca told the UnWrapped podcast: "To speak very clearly – because I know a lot of people are sad about it, I'm sad about it – I had filmed three films. My deal was done. And I love her beyond words. Beyond words. I think she's the most awesome, fantastic character."Ilsa was becoming a team player. And we can all want different things, but for me, Ilsa was rogue. Ilsa was naughty. Ilsa was unpredictable. There was a lot of characters coming in, not leaving enough space for what she had been.

My guest this week is Rebecca Ferguson. She recently reprised her role of Lady Jessica with Dune: Part Two, and plays the lead role in Silo, Apple TV+’s dystopian series about a community gone underground following an apocalyptic event. Ferguson stars as Juliette, an engineer-reluctantly-turned-sheriff, who uncovers alarming secrets while investigating a mysterious death.
Here, Ferguson describes the “intoxicating” experience of making the show, working with showrunner Graham Yost and her EP role, plus the elaborate and stunning sets and VFX work that went into it all.
As for Season 2 plans, how close will the show adhere to Hugh Howey’s original book series, on which it’s based? “I couldn’t possibly say,” Ferguson laughs, “but can you guess? No, don’t guess!”
Ferguson also addresses whether her character of Ilsa Faust would ever make a posthumous appearance in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two…

Sequels of a successful media franchise can turn out to be risky endeavors as we have witnessed in the past. Many franchises have gone on to make sequels that only ruin their masterpiece of a movie or legacy. The Hollywood star, Tom Cruise is also not a big fan of making sequels with the Mission Impossible franchise being the biggest exception of the star’s career.

"Men in Black" is a bit of a strange franchise. For instance: did you know there are actually four movies in the series? I bet you completely memory-holed the 2019 movie "Men in Black: International," but it exists! Hell, you might have even checked out after the disappointing "Men in Black II" and not realized there was a "Men in Black III." And yet, the original "Men in Black," released in 1997, is a near-perfect movie. It blends humor, heart, and incredible visual effects to craft a memorable blockbuster that still holds up to this day. The basic set-up of all the film is the same: a secret government agency known as the Men in Black police outer space alien activity here on Earth. Four movies later, the franchise remains lopsided, but you really can't beat that first film.

Rebecca Ferguson went viral during her “Dune: Part Two” press tour in late February after she revealed on the “Reign With Josh Smith” podcast that she once had an “idiot” co-star who made her cry on set. The story led to a guessing game across social media platforms where people tried to figure out who exactly Ferguson was talking about, although the actor recently said on SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show” that she was “not expecting” that to be the takeaway from her comments.
“Number one, yes, I kind of enjoyed the grab,” Ferguson admitted. “But what I realized even at the age that I am now is it doesn’t matter. I am me. I definitely think I’m much more open. I also know where my boundaries are. But the point of the interview wasn’t about finding the person — of course, people will be interested. But...

“This is not just a film that I’ve created a character and done and left. It’s a show that I am so involved in that I love it beyond anything and everyone,” says Rebecca Ferguson at Deadline’s Contenders TV panel for Silo. “It’s really thought-provoking, philosophical, psychological.”
She added: “We had one day where we weren’t really figuring out a scene … and we just stopped the shooting for 15 minutes … and we just talked it through, because we’re not rushing anything. This is the essence of this show. We get to the core of what we’re doing and why we’re doing it, in the most phenomenal setting.”
Apple TV+’s dystopian drama tells the story of the last 10,000 people on earth, whose mile-deep home protects them from the toxic, deadly world outside. However, none of the township knows when or why the township was built,...

Rebecca Ferguson shared what transpired after she accused an unnamed actor of screaming at her while they were filming together.
While doing press for Dune: Part Two, the 40-year-old actress divulged that someone berated her on a movie set.
“I remember there was a moment and this human being was being so insecure and angry because this person couldn’t get the scenes out,” she recalled. “And I think I was so vulnerable and uncomfortable that I got screamed at. But because this person was number one on a call sheet, there was no safety net for me. So no one had my back. And I would cry walking off set.”
Rebecca has since revealed what she was told after making the incident public.

When Rebecca Ferguson revealed earlier this year that she had to stand up to an “idiot” co-star after they belittled her in front of the cast and crew – ultimately telling this unknown star to “f off” – a frenzy began in trying to figure out who the mystery was. Sadly, her overall point was missed by many in the process.
As Rebecca Ferguson told Jess Cagle (via The Hollywood Reporter), “The point of the interview wasn’t about finding the person — of course, people will be interested. But I was excited about the question, which was a very good question…Because the point was: Is there a point in your career where you were treated in a way where you changed your decision on — this is how I formulated it in myself — where you want change, or you will not accept it? And it was such a clear moment for me working with this person.
