Thrillers from the Vault – 8 Classic Films
Blu-ray
Mill Creek Entertainment
1935, 1939, 1940 / B&w / 1.33: 1 / Blu ray
Starring Boris Karloff, Ann Doran, Evelyn Keyes,
Written by Arthur Strawn, Karl Brown, Robert Andrews
Directed by Roy William Neill, Nick Grindé
In 1934 Boris Karloff was an unhappy actor, he was one of Universal’s most illustrious stars, yet good parts were scarce, and intelligent horror roles like hen’s teeth—the occasional work at other studios was both a boon and a welcome distraction.
In 1935 the studio loaned him to Columbia for The Black Room, a blood and thunder gothic in which Karloff would play two roles, an aristocrat and his evil twin—a dark fable played out in shadows, but a light at the end of the tunnel for the 47 year old actor who relished a challenge. Even brighter news for Karloff, Roy William Neill was signed to direct. Known for his exacting nature,...

Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo has expanded a new online market where he’s selling thousands of demo recordings made over the past couple of decades.
Cuomo quietly launched the site back in November with a single demo bundle, and today, December 8th, appeared to finalize the market, which now boasts 2,655 recordings. Cuomo created the site, he said, as a final project for a web programming class.
For my Web Programming class final project, I made a web market stocked with 2655 previously unreleased demos. https://t.co/wFNb1drPRs

Exclusive: MajorJazz, a development and finance company with ties to Wall Street and Silicon Valley has acquired The Black Room, a paranormal horror spec about marriage, deceit, and the constant intrusion of the past into the present written by Grady Hendrix and Nicholas Rucka. The inspiration for the script came from Hendrix’s experience in New York City taking incident reports at parapsychology research organization in New York City. Rucka is an editor currently working on This Is Us.
The indie will be produced by Jon Shestack (Before I Fall) and Michael Richter and James Shifren of MajorJazz.
Set in the 1970s, The Black Room is a story about two rivals – Tom, a disgraced parapsychologist still grieving over the loss of his wife and Peter, his former mentor, now a professional debunker – who investigate a small-town medium who claims she can speak to the dead. Does she really have a gift?...

Check Out Funny or Die's Prevenge Prank Video: "A pitch black, wryly British horror comedy from the mind of Alice Lowe (“Sightseers,” “Hot Fuzz,” “Paddington”) that’s as funny as it is vicious, Prevenge follows Ruth, a pregnant woman on a killing spree. It's her misanthropic unborn baby dictating Ruth's actions, holding society responsible for the absence of a father. The child speaks to Ruth from the womb, coaching her to lure and ultimately kill her unsuspecting victims. "It will try to seduce you, trick you with pleasure, make you want more. It feeds off your desires." Check out the official trailer for a gore-filled horror film titled The Black Room, from filmmaker Rolfe Kanefsky. The film stars Natasha Henstridge (where has she been recently?) and Lukas Hassel as a newly married couple who move into their dream house, only to discover there's something evil in the "black room" in the cellar. Also starring Lin Shaye, Dominique Swain, James Duval, Auggie Duke, and Caleb Scott. From the looks of it, this doesn't seem like anything particular special. There's new horror films being made all the time, and this one seems forgettable despite the marketing. The flaming title card really tops it off. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Rolfe Kanefsky's The Black Room, direct from YouTube: Paul (Lukas Hassel) and Jennifer Hemdale (Natasha Henstridge) have just moved into their dream house.
