David Leitch Says He Pitched Brad Pitt As Cable & ‘Deadpool’ Meetings Were Initially About ‘X-Force’
Ever since co-directing the “John Wick” franchise in 2014 and then splitting off on his own from partner Chad Stahelski, filmmaker David Leitch has been one of the most in-demand action directors on the planet. Almost taking the most recent “Jurassic World” reboot before rethinking it ultimately, since ‘John Wick 1,’ Leitch has directed a “Fast And Furious” spin-off, “Atomic Blonde,” “Bullet Train,” “Deadpool 2,” and his upcoming film “The Fall Guy” which opens tomorrow and stars Ryan Reynolds and Emily Blunt.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is certainly one of the releases this year that is meant to kickstart great things. First, the movie is Deadpool’s first foray into the MCU, something that fans have been asking for, well, since the MCU existed. Second, it’s part of a new strategy that aims to restore at least some of the faith that fans had in the franchise and in the studio.
During the 2024 CinemaCon Marvel Studios presentation exclusive clip was shown, that featured Deadpool, Wolverine, and all supporting characters set to reprise their roles from the previous movie. The clip is funny, emotional and before everything else, it revealed that Deadpool wasn’t kidnapped by the Tva because he stole Cable’s time travel machine, he is needed to save the sacred timeline.

Unfortunately I am having some trouble with this story, which is a shame because I really love the character. I think a big part that is working against it, especially from my own point of view is the retroactive angle to the story. Without repeating myself from last month, in a nutshell, a lack of consequences detracts from delivering a good story. There has been a spate of retroactive storytelling from Marvel in the last few years, some has worked and some hasn’t. I think a lot of it can come down to the popularity and back catalogue of any given character to decide the levels of success a retroactive story can have. Even though I said I love the character I have to admit my knowledge of her early comics are sketchy at best.

It's no secret that John Malkovich is willing to consider any kind of role, whether that leads to him playing an assassin, a Pope, or a weird, evil sci-fi doctor. Given how high-profile his roles can be, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the man loves the spotlight. After all, how many shy people would sign on for a "Being John Malkovich"-style movie — even if the story itself was moreso influenced by screenwriter Charlie Kaufman's struggles?
It's not that Malkovich necessarily loves the spotlight; in fact, as he told Vanity Fair, he is "intriniscally shy" and doesn't care for public speaking lest someone misinterpret what he says. Yet he also doesn't hold back when a project seems exciting:
"I want to do things that interest me. You know, when I was a little, fat kid, it would have been well beyond my imagination, or anybody's -- I would...

Exclusive: Sean Ryan Fox (Henry Danger) and Catherine Daddario (Oak) will lead the cast of the indie high school drama The Midway Point, marking the feature directorial debut of writer-director Lucca Vieira, which has wrapped production in Los Angeles. Others in the ensemble include 2019 Honorary Academy Award winner Wes Studi (The Last of the Mohicans), Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Thora Birch (Ghost World) and Julie Benz (Dexter).
The coming-of-age film said to be in the vein of Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade follows the introverted and highly creative high school senior Jake (Fox) as he experiences his first love with Alice (Daddario), a brash and outgoing classmate. As the two open up to one another, the seemingly opposite pair find they have more in common than meets the eye. Studi plays Jake’s teacher, with Birch as his mother, and Benz as the school’s guidance counselor who helps him with his social anxieties.

Fans of Transparent will recognize Trace Lysette. For five seasons on Amazon’s groundbreaking gender- and genre-breaking series, she played Shea, a transgender yoga teacher who helps Jeffrey Tambor’s character — and the non-trans audience — understand trans lingo and culture.
It was also Lysette who came forward, in 2017, with claims that Tambor had sexually harassed her on the Transparent set, one of several allegations that led Tambor to exit the show after its fourth season.
Her performance as Shea helped get Lysette the role of Tracey in Lorene Scafaria’s 2019 blockbuster Hustlers alongside Jennifer Lopez, one of the first times a trans actor had a starring turn in a major Hollywood film.

Nearly four months have passed since Starz’s sprawling “Power” universe was last on the air, following the April season finale of the Tommy Egan-focused “Force.” That’s not much time, and certainly not the longest span of time between installments in “Power” creator Courtney Kemp’s ever-widening tableau of cocaine entrepreneurs. But it feels like a long time, evidence that Kemp has succeeded into turning “Power” into a Marvel-style narrative ecosystem, for better and for worse.
The “for worse” part comes when any extended amount of time passes, when the richness and depth of a long-running, hyperconnected story triggers the audience’s anxiety about their ability to keep track of all its machinations. For example, “Force” reintroduced O.G. character Liliana (Audrey Esparza), who hadn’t been seen in over seven years since her initial three-episode arc in “Power.” The move ultimately paid off, but it also signaled to the fanbase that,...

New spin-offs of The Voice and House Rules join a host of returning franchises in the Seven Network’s 2022 slate, which features a renewed focus on light entertainment.
Of the titles announced as part of today’s upfronts, Screentime’s Claremont was the sole local drama, reflecting a shift from the 2021 schedule which included three.
The four-hour investigative miniseries from the creative team behind Catching Milat details how the disappearance of young women launches a 25-year investigation by the police and one tenacious journalist, who are united in their determination to seek justice. Major production investment was provided by Screen Australia in association with Seven, with finance from Screen Nsw.
Claremont is joined in the schedule by My Kitchen Rules, The Voice: Generations, AGT, Australian Idol, and Apartment Rules – a spin-off of House Rules – as well as new factual series’ Strike Force and Code 1: Minute by Minute, both of which are produced by Wtfn.

The Old Guard has become one the most popular movies to debut on Netflix, its success more than a little down to Charlize Theron’s portrayal of Andromache of Scythia, the leader of the titular band of immortal warriors who’s growing tired of her eternal life. Her sympathetic character is the core of the movie, but she may have proven less relatable with the knowledge that she was once a slaver.
In the second volume of the comic series on which the movie was based, Force Multiplied, the newest immortal, Nile, investigates the past of her millennia-old comrade, and is pointed in the right direction by Noriko (the drowned immortal the movie renamed Quynh to accommodate her Vietnamese actor), telling her to ask Andy about Law 282 of the Code of Hammurabi. The Sequel Trilogy as a whole really managed to polarize Star Wars fans. Some despise the entire thing, others believe that Rian Johnson was onto something with his treatment of The Last Jedi, and there are even those who found something to like about it. This division in the fanbase might have been fuelling rumors that claimed Disney was planning to erase the Sequel Trilogy from the continuity, but that’s since been shot down by Lrm Online, who reached out to their source at Lucasfilm, who’s denied that this is happening.
It all started when YouTuber Doomcock’s video titled “Star Wars Leaks Reveal Exactly How the Sequel Trilogy Will Be Erased” put forward the idea that the current trilogy would be relegated to Star Wars Legends status. This would have meant that the three films wouldn’t be considered canon in the Star Wars Universe, falling outside...

The announcement that Michael Keaton would be joining the upcoming Flash movie was met with great shock. Keaton walked away from Batman ahead of Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever, turning him into “The guy who used to be Batman” for years as he struggled to get away from his superhero shadow. That changed with Birdman, when his character seemed like a metacommentary on his own career, and with Spider-Man: Homecoming, when he returned to cape movies as the villainous Vulture, but by then, Keaton’s version was multiple Batmen in the past.
And then he wasn’t.
The grand return of Tim Burton’s Batman and arguably the best Bruce Wayne ever put to film was unexpected in the first place, and his placement feels absurd. Could Keaton be playing the same Bruce Wayne that he did 30 years ago in The Flash movie? Possibly, and the idea behind his...

The Flash star Grant Gustin got fans worried earlier this year when he revealed that his current contract runs out after season 7, with the pandemic preventing re-negotiations from going ahead. Hopefully, the actor will be able to sign up for more after next season, but this has woken us up to the fact that the end is in sight for the Scarlet Speedster. And it seems that The CW already knows how they’re going to conclude the Arrowverse series, whenever that may be.

Over the last few years, there’s been an increased call for Marvel to make an all-female Avengers movie, likely based off the A-Force superheroine team from the comics. To date, Kevin Feige has yet to officially announce one, but that hasn’t stopped fans from asking for it. The fun of it would be in seeing the women from all corners of the McU come together. Maybe even the TV shows, too, like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
And if such a thing was to go ahead, Chloe Bennet would love to reprise her role as Daisy Johnson Aka Quake in the movie. In an interview with Playboy, Bennet was asked about the possibility of an A-Force type film and made clear that she would jump on the opportunity, assuming she got an invite. Which she doesn’t think is impossible, by the way.

As the flagship series for Apple TV+, featuring another high-profile return to TV (Jennifer Aniston), the show cost an exorbitant $15 million an episode. However, high production costs and loads of talent in front of and behind the camera couldn’t save The Morning Show from being received tepidly from critics. Now that it’s one of the most beloved comedies on streaming, across multiple generations, it can be hard to remember that The Office was not well-received when it debuted on NBC in the spring of 2005. It’s not just that the mockumentary format was relatively new to American TV, but that the show’s original conception of Michael Scott was far more malevolent and abrasive than he would become. In particular, the scene in the pilot episode — which was beat-for-beat a remake of the premiere of the British original...

There was, clearly, no expense spared in the making of “Space Force.” Imagining what a Space Force branch of the military might actually look like outside the bounds of President Trump’s imagination (though the show never mentions him by name), the new comedy is a splashy flex of Netflix’s powers. It boasts the co-creator team of Greg Daniels and Steve Carell, whose smash hit “The Office” gained an almost more successful second life when it hit Netflix and won over a whole new generation of TV fans. With Carell at the center of its orbit, “Space Force” features an all-star cast including Lisa Kudrow, John Malkovich, and even the late Fred Willard in the bittersweet role of Carell’s ailing father. Its sets are expansive and slick, gleaming and pristine. Every episode brings new familiar faces, stellar production design, and the kind of confidence that only the total...

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was intended as something of a love letter to the history of the saga, and one way that this factored into the plot was in the presence of Force Ghosts – or, at least, Force Voices. During her climactic fight with her evil grandpappy Palpatine, Rey was spoken to by the spirits of many Jedi who had gone before her – everyone from Anakin Skywalker to Ahsoka Tano.
This subtly upturns previously established facts about how Force Ghosts work, though. In the old EU/now Legends stories, a Jedi could only become a Force Ghost for a brief period of time before passing over into another plane of existence. The voices Rey heard seem to confirm this is not the case in modern canon, however. The Rise novelization confirms this and goes even further, revealing that Leia received messages from Obi-Wan and Yoda which helped her learn about the Force.

A shameful piece of Atlanta’s history is now the subject of two major television series. Sometimes known crudely as the Atlanta child murders, the story follows the murders of at least 30 African American teenagers that decimated Atlanta during the ’70s and ’80s. The semi-unsolved case was the subject of David Fincher’s “Mindunter” Season 2, which offered little in the way of answers but brought renewed attention to the horrific events. In spring 2019, the city of Atlanta announced it was re-opening the case.
HBO will explore the tragedy and the new investigation in a five-part documentary series, “Atlanta’s Missing and Murdered: The Lost Children,” which just released its first official trailer.

Since its late 2019 launch, fledgling streaming service Disney+ has only released a handful of original films, from projects initially bound for theatrical releases (like the Willem Dafoe-starring dogsledding adventure “Togo”) to those expressly made for the service (like the live-action remake of “Lady and the Tramp”). When filmmaker Julia Hart and her husband and co-writer Jordan Horowitz signed on to make “Stargirl,” the streaming service was still almost two years away from its public debut.
It was something of a leap of faith for the “Fast Color” and “Miss Stevens” team. They had no idea what Disney+ was going to look like, but they knew it would be big (Disney big!) and that it offered them a chance to scale up their production in a way that independent filmmaking might not be able to provide.

This The Flash review contains spoilers.
The Flash Season 6 Episode 14
I’ll confess, The Flash was starting to worry me just a little bit in the days since Crisis on Infinite Earths wrapped up. I still maintain that The Flash season 6 is well on its way to being perhaps the best season of the show yet. I know we all love season one (and I have the somewhat controversial opinion that season three might be my favorite overall), but under new showrunner Eric Wallace has taken some real chances this year, whether it was by breaking the season up into two mini-seasons, the choice of villains, or expanding the supporting cast (and giving them more to do while we’re at it), we can’t say that they’ve fallen back too hard on formula this time around. And after the incredibly conventional (and tedious) season five, that alone is worthy of applause.

Kid Flash is back! Next week, Keiynan Lonsdale makes his return to The Flash for the first time in a while and these promo images tease the Flash family reunion that’s about to take place. However, Wally West is back in Central City for a reason. And it’s not a positive one. I think the title of season 5’s fourteenth episode tells you all you need to know, as it’s called “Death of the Speed Force.”
This new batch of pics showcase Grant Gustin’s Scarlet Speedster and his former sidekick working together in S.T.A.R. Labs and also teaming up in costume on the streets of Central City. Elsewhere, Cisco has returned from his travels cataloguing the various changes to the world post-Crisis. He wasn’t involved in the recent “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, but Keiynan Lonsdale is making his way back to The Flash for the show’s next episode. Titled “Death of the Speed Force,” it’ll air on March 10th and the promo above gives us a tease of the reunion we’ve all been waiting for, with Barry and Wally sharing a hug.
It doesn’t offer up much more than that unfortunately, as it’s quite short in length, but we do get to see that Wally also imparts a dire warning to the Scarlet Speedster, telling him that something is very, very wrong with the Speed Force. Ep Eric Wallace has also teased that a major comic book villain who hasn’t been seen on the TV show before will debut in the episode. Who that may be, we can’t say for sure, but for more,...

“Power Book III: Raising Kanan” at Starz has found its lead actor.
Mekai Curtis has been cast as a young Kanan Stark, the character played in the mothership series by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. He joins previously announced cast member Patina Miller, who will play Kanan’s mother.
The young Kanan is described as smart, driven and still naïve. Kanan’s world revolves around his mother, Raq (Miller), who raised him by herself. She is his everything. At the same time, he is beginning to get a sense of not only the world around him, but his place in said world. Kanan wants to be just like his mother and that’s the problem. He’s young and wide-eyed and doesn’t know how the hustle works. And even more importantly, his mother is not nearly as keen as he is for him to follow in her footsteps.

Patina Miller has been cast in a leading role in the upcoming “Power” prequel “Raising Kanan.”
Officially titled “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” the series is a prequel set in the ‘90s during the early years of “Power” character Kanan Stark. Miller will star as Raquel “Raq” Thomas, Kanan’s mother. The character is described as cold, hard, and fierce; a successful and deadly woman taking names in a man’s world. As much as she cares for her son, there are many instances where one wonders if she loves him for who he is, or if she loves him merely as an extension of herself. The middle child of three, Raq also carries the heavy burden as the earner for her two brothers.
Miller most recently starred in the CBS political drama “Madam Secretary.” Her other TV credits include “Mercy Street” and “All My Children.” She has also appeared...

Henry Danger, the title character in Nickelodeon’s longest-running live-action sitcom, is about to leave the network, But that doesn’t mean there won’t be other superheroes to try and grab hold of its young audience.
The kids-focused cable network, part of ViacomCBS, will launch a new spinoff, “Danger Force.” The new series will star two characters from the original, which centers on the adventures of a young superhero, his mentor and a group of helpers. The new series will pair “Captain Man” (played by Ray Cooper) and “Schwoz” (played by Michael D. Cohen) with a new group of four young superheroes in training.
The conceit allows Nickelodeon to continue the “Henry Danger” storyline while adding new elements to the concept. Nickelodeon has produced 128 episodes of “Henry Danger” across five seasons. The series is the most-watched program among kids between 6 and 11 on TV year to date and was the...

We’re going to hear about the Snyder Cut of Justice League until the end of time or until it gets released, whichever comes first. The latest point being made about its differences from the theatrical version is a confirmation of the use of time travel.
Snyder has continually drip-fed morsels about his original vision for the superhero team-up, each one further convincing fans that it would have been infinitely superior to the garbled mess of a movie that was released in cinemas. An image declaring “Happy 214” (referring to the Snyder Cut’s purported runtime and celebrated on February 14th) that sees two versions of the Flash running across the scene as a bolt of speedster lightning streaks from the sky, got fans talking, and one asked about its significance to the final film.

As is the case for much of the extended universe material now considered non-canon by Disney, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed still maintains a loyal fanbase to this day. Released way back in 2008 for last-gen consoles, LucasArts’ well-received single-player adventure was one of the studio’s last, prior to the majority of its staff being laid off by the house of Mickey Mouse. Today, the company exists largely as a licensor, no longer having a hand in the franchise’s video game division.
That job has since fallen to EA, of course, which, following a number of disappointing releases, finally delivered one worth shouting about last year in the form of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. In retrospect, Respawn’s first foray into a Galaxy Far, Far Away shares many similarities to Force Unleashed in a gameplay sense but narratively? Not so much. Actor Sam Witwer’s turn as Darth...

The emblem of the controversial Space Force has been tweeted out by Donald Trump and has been observed by many to bear more than a little resemblance to the logo of Star Trek.
The image, consisting of a chevron enclosed by the orbital path of a spacefaring object and backed by a basic stylization of the Earth and the small dots of distant stars, has an unquestionable similarity to that of Starfleet Command. And as you can always rely on when something obvious is unleashed into the wilds of the internet, Twitter has not been shy in pointing it out.

Nat Faxon and Jim Rash’s “Downhill” begins — as its inspiration, Ruben Östlund’s “Force Majeure,” did before it— with the taking of a family vacation photo. It’s an appropriate metaphor for the story that follows because any photo—especially the family vacation photo—is a case of presentation; this is the image we’re going to pretend is representative when, in fact, it took all sorts of pushing and prodding and passive-aggression to create that split second where everyone seems to be having a great time.

When “Parasite” filmmaker Bong Joon Ho won this year’s Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign-Language Film, the beloved Korean auteur used his podium to deliver a necessary message: “Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films.” It’s a lesson any film fan could stand to learn, including the audience who opts to take in Nat Faxon and Jim Rash’s well-intentioned but ultimately flat “Downhill,” an Americanized remake of Ruben Östlund’s understandably lauded 2014 black comedy “Force Majeure.” While the duo have snagged an enviable cast, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell taking on the lead roles of a married couple on edge, and a script co-written by “Succession” creator Jesse Armstrong,

It’s strange to think that a Star Wars TV show made a bigger impression on 2019 pop culture than the major motion picture released the same year, but Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian might well have managed just that, thanks in no small part to the continuing popularity of the character known as Baby Yoda.
From Disney’s perspective, it’s a good thing that the cute little Force-user took off like he did, considering how much money the Mouse House invested in the character. During a recent TCA Winter Press Tour event, actor Adam Pally was reminiscing about his experience playing a stormtrooper who punches Baby Yoda when he mentioned an eyebrow-raising figure for the cost of the puppet:
“I remember the first take that I did when I punched it… They called ‘cut’ and Jon, who was watching on a monitor in his office, came down and said,...

President Donald J. Trump unveiled the official logo for the Space Force on Friday and was instantly jeered and cheered by Star Trek fans who say the design boldly goes beyond the line of borrowing.
Trump’s tweet unveiling the logo is another reminder that the sixth branch of the U.S. military will be an extra-terrestrial enterprise. What better model for that mission then Starfleet, the exploratory and quasi-military organization that Gene Roddenberry introduced in the landmark first episode of Star Trek in 1966?
The Commander-in-Chief was an impressionable 20-year-old when Roddenberry’s space-faring sci-fi classic premiered on NBC so it’s possible it left a real mark on him — as it certainly did with Nasa types, inventors, and scientists of several generations. But the new Space Force logo stirred an instant backlash that suggests its imagery may cling-on to Trek motifs too much.

Despite previous episodes featuring cameos from across the long history of DC live-action adaptations, nobody expected what happened last night. Installment four of the five-part “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover saw the show’s seven Paragons teaming up to connect the multiverse through the Speed Force. Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen proceeded to zip through many universes, eventually arriving in the one place fans assumed he couldn’t go: the Dceu.
