Upcoming horror film adaptation Until Dawn has added a memorable face from the videogame on which it’s based: one Peter Stormare.
It’s been around six months since we learned that Sony is developing a film version of Until Dawn, the 2015 ‘cabin in the woods’-style horror game that impressed players with its branching narrative paths and cinematic visuals. Screen Gems is co-producing with PlayStation Productions and Shazam! helmer David F Sandberg is on board to direct. Gary Dauberman, the screenwriter behind such horror mainstays as It, Annabelle and The Nun has written the script and Screen Gems has described it as an ‘R-rated love letter to the horror genre, focusing on an ensemble cast.’
The videogame cast featured plenty of up and coming stars who would go on to do great things: Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek appeared, as did Scream 6′s Hayden Panettiere and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Brett Dalton,...

Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman’s company T-Street has signed a two-picture producing deal with Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group.
Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, who took over as the studio’s co-chairs and CEOs in 2022, orchestrated the deal. It marks the producers’ first collaboration with Warner Bros., having previously worked with Lionsgate on the box office hit “Knives Out,” Netflix on its sequel “Glass Onion,” Disney on “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and Focus Features on the neo-noir thriller “Brick.” It’s unclear if Johnson will direct either of the two films that he’ll be overseeing at Warner Bros.
“Mike and Pam’s renewed commitment to original storytelling and the theatrical experience make Warner Bros. Discovery an ideal place to help us bring the filmmakers we love to audiences around the world on a grand scale,” said Johnson and Bergman. “We’re thrilled to have them as partners.

The next Paul Thomas Anderson movie has a release date.
While announcing several calendar placements for its upcoming theatrical slate, Warner Bros. revealed on Tuesday that Anderson’s untitled project starring Leonardo DiCaprio will arrive in theaters (including IMAX venues) on August 8, 2025.
Little is officially known about Anderson’s new movie, other than its cast: DiCaprio, Sean Penn, “Licorice Pizza” breakout Alana Haim, “A Thousand and One” star Teyana Taylor, and Regina Hall. Unofficially, however, the film has a reported budget north of $115 million, according to Variety. There has also been broad and unconfirmed speculation that the untitled feature is at least partially inspired or based on Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel “Vineland.” That book was set in the mid-1980s, although it’s unclear if Anderson’s potential take on the material would follow its same timeline. (Anderson previously adapted Pynchon’s “Inherent Vice” for the big screen.)

Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film doesn’t yet have a title, but it does have a release date, and it will even open in IMAX theaters.
Warner Bros. has dated the untitled PTA movie for a release on August 8, 2025. The movie officially stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Alana Haim, and Chase Infiniti.
Anderson is writing, directing, and producing the film, now his 10th narrative feature, with Sara Murphy and Adam Somner also producing.
Warner Bros. is calling PTA’s next movie an “event film,” and its release plans on IMAX are a coup for the director and the studio. Little else is known about it, as Anderson loves working in secrecy, but the film is said to be contemporary in its setting, and it’s felt to be his most “commercial” project to date. The film is currently in production in California.

Warner Bros has pushed Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II starring Robert Pattinson back a year from October 3, 2025, to October 2, 2026, and set Paul Thomas Anderson’s crime tale starring Leonard DiCaprio for August 8, 2025.
It is understood the date change for The Batman Part II stems from the Hollywood strikes, which halted and severely disrupted studio production for close to six months last year.
The sequel to Reeves’ 2022 $772.2m global hit steers clear of DC Studios co-head James Gunn’s Superman on July 11, 2025, which will be the first film on release from the restructured division.

“The Batman 2,” the sequel to Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” starring Robert Pattinson, has been delayed by a full year to 2026.
Warner Bros. Pictures announced “The Batman 2” will now open in theaters and IMAX on October 2, 2026, delayed from October 3, 2025. The new Batman movie now opens a week ahead of a planned sequel to the animated “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”
Taking the place of “The Batman” on the release calendar is “The Bride!,” the new film from director Maggie Gyllenhaal that stars Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley, Peter Sarsgaard, with Annette Bening, and Penelope Cruz, and is meant to be a riff on Frankenstein. That film was announced to open Oct. 3, 2025, and it will also debut in IMAX.
“The Batman” opened in 2022 and was a box office hit for WB, grossing $772 million worldwide. A sequel was announced back in 2022.

Robert Pattinson is delaying his return to Gotham.
The gritty comic book sequel “The Batman Part II,” in which the actor will play the Caped Crusader again, has been postponed a year. It will debut in theaters on Oct. 2, 2026 instead of its original date of Oct. 3, 2025.
In addition to the move, Warner Bros., the studio behind the superhero tentpole, has shuffled around other titles on its release calendar. Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride,” starring Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley and Peter Sarsgaard, will take “The Batman” sequel’s old spot on Oct. 3, 2025. And “Alto Knights,” a mob drama starring two Robert De Niros, has relocated from Nov. 15, 2024 to March 21, 2025.
The studio also added the latest film from director Paul Thomas Anderson to its schedule, slating it for Aug. 8, 2025. The movie, labeled by Warner Bros. as “An Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Event Film,” will be released in Imax. Little is known about the project,...

The Batman Part II is flying off to a new date. The film will now open Oct. 2, 2026. That’s back a full year from its previous date.
Batman 2 wasn’t the only notable change made to Warner Bros. release calendar on Tuesday: The Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed The Bride!, starring Christian Bale, will take Batman 2‘s old date of Oct. 3, 2025; Barry Levinson’s gangster pic Alto Nights is being delayed from Nov. 24, 2024, to March 21, 2025; and Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled, star-studded event pic has landed an Aug. 8, 2025, release date. All of the titles will be offered in Imax.
The sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman was first announced at CinemaCon in April 2022. Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 is no longer opening on October 3, 2025 — a new launchpad for comic book movies. Instead, it is going a year later on October, 2, 2026. We hear the new date is due to the aftermath of the dual strikes.
The spacing also will give some distance from James Gunn’s Superman, which is hitting cinemas on July 11, 2025. That film will kick off Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Studios, the first phase titled “Gods and Monsters.”
Reeves’ Batman is not part of the Gunn universe, but it’s all kosher to co-exist. Gunn has another Batman movie in the works, Batman: Brave and the Bold, with Andy Muschietti directing. Robert Pattinson plays Batman in Reeves’ universe. The role will be recast for Muschietti’s film.

Tony Ganios, best known for playing Anthony ‘Meat’ Tuperello in Porky’s, is dead at the age of 64. According to the actor’s fiancée Amanda, Tony was admitted to a hospital in New York on Saturday with a severe spinal cord infection but passed away of heart failure following surgery on Sunday.
“The last words we said to each other were, ‘I love you,’” Amanda wrote on X. “Love is an understatement. You are everything to me. My heart, my soul and my best friend.“
He made his feature-film debut in Philip Kaufman’s coming-of-age comedy-drama The Wanderers, which followed a group of Italian-American teenagers and their power struggles against rival gangs in the Bronx in 1963. The film was a success upon release, but its popularity grew over the decades as it developed a passionate following, even leading Warner Bros. to re-release the movie in 1996.

Warner Brothers has been undergoing some restructuring since it was merged with Discovery. This has caused some uproar in their release schedules and even caused some films to be shelved altogether. Just when things seemed to stabilize, two industry strikes again caused chaos across the board. So, what can we look forward to for the Warner Brothers 2024 release schedule?
Dune Part Two – March 15th
The second installment of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune saga hits theaters. The first one fought against a Covid release but still earned a respectable amount at the box office. Fans of the property seem excited to check out this one, so it should be a decent hit. If the box office is sizable enough for the WB, then a third film will be on the way, as the director has commented that he has already started writing it based on Frank Herbert’s novel Dune Messiah.

Paul Thomas Anderson has assembled an all-star cast for his next movie, which will likely be the most expensive of his career.
Oscar winners Leonardo DiCaprio, long rumored to be in the movie, and Sean Penn, who recently popped up in Anderson’s “Licorice Pizza,” will appear in the untitled film. They join Regina Hall, the “Girls Trip” and “The Hate U Give” standout. Production on the film, which Warner Bros. will produce, is set to start this month in California, the state where nearly all of Anderson’s movies have unfolded. The new Anderson project has a contemporary setting and will be an ensemble piece, according to a source with knowledge of the production.

With the new year upon us it is time we ask what movie (tentatively) releasing in 2024 is the one you are looking forward to seeing the most? The strikes took their toll on some of the movies that were meant for this year but we still have a lot to look forward to.
Whether you are wondering how they are going to make a musical sequel with Joker: Folie à Deux or how Deadpool will fit into the MCU or if Beetlejuice 2 and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F can be the rare decades later sequels that actually work?! There really is a lot to look forward to this year, and not just sequels either, we have some solid looking original films such as the re-teaming of Brad Pitt and George Clooney in the Jon Watts directed Wolfs along with the gangster film Alto Knights that brings back together Director...

Red One: Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson’s holiday action comedy to bring cheer to theaters next year
Next year’s holiday season is already looking merry and bright at the box office as Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ holiday action comedy, Red One, plans on riding a sleigh into cinemas. The Amazon MGM and Seven Bucks Christmas film is still spreading holiday cheer on Prime Video, but the project’s global theatrical debut happens on November 15, 2024.
Red One’s move to theaters is a strategy to take advantage of the holiday box office rush. Families love to bundle up the family for a trip to cinemas, and that Thanksgiving window is almost as tasty as a lovingly cooked butterball turkey. Other films will premiere in theaters around the holidays, but so far, Robert De Niro’s mobster film Alto Knights and Lionsgate and Kingdom Story’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever occupy the holiday stretch.

Exclusive, Updated: The latter half of the 2024 theatrical release schedule just got a shot of testosterone as Amazon MGM Studios and Seven Bucks’ epic Christmas action comedy Red One just set an exclusive global theatrical release for Nov. 15, 2024.
Similar to other committed Amazon MGM theatrical titles of late, i.e. Air and Saltburn, Red One will have a theatrical window before streaming on its ultimate home, which is Prime Video.
By releasing Red One theatrically on November 15, Amazon MGM Studios is looking to take advantage of the traditionally lucrative holiday corridor before Thanksgiving. Rival wide releases on Nov. 15 include Warner Bros. Robert De Niro mobster movie, Alto Knights and Lionsgate and Kingdom Story’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. I hear that the movie has tested twice and scores were through the roof. This was in the last week, we understand. The original testing of the movie over the summer...

Hot on the heels of Warner Bros. moving Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to Friday, December 22, 2023, and Robert De Niro’s Alto Knights to later in 2024, Disney is doing its version of the release date shuffle for two of its upcoming releases. Additionally, Searchlight is no longer opening Magazine Dreams, starring Jonathan Majors, on December 8. Majors faces a trial date on November 29, 2023, for a domestic violence case involving his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.
Meanwhile, Disney will push its live-action adaptation of Snow White from March 22, 2024, to March 21, 2025, with Disney/Pixar’s Elio going from March 1, 2024, to June 13, 2025. The shuffle stems from uncertainty about the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
Other projects jumping ship include an untitled Disney feature moving from February 14, 2024, to April 5, 2024. Disney is also pulling The Bikeriders from its December 1 theatrical release because Queen B, Beyonce, is dropping a concert film in theaters, and, of course, the actors’ strike.

If you have Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom moves its release date again on your Bingo card, take a shot! The James Wan-directed superhero sequel is swimming to a new release date, with the film opening on Friday, December 22, instead of Wednesday! While the jump is minimal, it’s worth noting for people planning to see Jason Momoa’s next aquatic adventure on opening weekend.
December is a killer concerning new film releases, giving Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom stiff competition at the box office. Let’s take a look at the schedule, shall we? Bradley Cooper’s Maestro, focusing on the life and times of composer Leonard Bernstein, opens on December 20, tossing Oscar chum into the box office water. What is it with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom? Is it Wednesday? Is it Friday? The DC sequel will now open on Friday Dec. 22 this year instead of Dec. 20. Know that Warners knows what they’re doing here: They turned Aquaman back in 2018 into the highest grossing DC movie of all-time at $1.15 billion. That movie launched on Saturday and Wednesday with previews, and after an official opening on a Friday (Dec. 21) cleared over $105M at the domestic B.O. by Christmas Day –which fell on a Tuesday that year. What they do here with the immediate shift is they capture more gross closer to the Christmas Day Monday when moviegoing shifts into high gear. It’s a four-day holiday weekend. Aquaman ended its stateside run at $335M.
Meanwhile, the Barry Levinson, Robert De Niro playing twin mobsters movie Wise Guys is now titled Alto Knights and has moved from Feb.

Warner Bros. has given its upcoming theatrical slate a small shake-up. “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” the final installment in the current continuation of DC Comics adaptations before an imminent reboot, has been bumped from Dec. 20 to Dec. 22. The shift from the Wednesday to the Friday release date gives the superhero film a traditional three-day opening in theaters, as opposed to the originally slated five-day rollout.
The slight delay gives “Aquaman 2” a little bit of extra space away from the Timothée Chalamet chocolatier prequel “Wonka.” Warner Bros. is also releasing that spin on novelist Roald Dahl’s enduring character, debuting the film on Dec. 15.
It’s a busy holiday season for the studio, which is also bowing its adaptation of “The Color Purple” musical on Christmas Day. That’s three big titles coming one after the other, arriving more than three months after the last Warner Bros. release — “The Nun II,...

Everyone’s gone to the festivals. But here on the home front, one thing still leads to another.
Last Saturday, I picked up a slightly tattered copy of an old crime biography, Frank Costello: Prime Minister of the Underworld, at one of those sidewalk libraries.
Published in 1974, the year after mob boss Costello died at the age of 82, the book was written by his long-time lawyer George Wolf with co-writer Joseph Dimona.
As lawyer books go, it wasn’t bad. Lots of first-hand anecdotes. Not too much ax-grinding. And a reasonably clear re-telling of an oft-told saga about what they used to call “The Syndicate,” from tawdry roots in New York’s Italian ghettos, through the Italo-Jewish alliance of bootlegging gangs, to political machinations, over-throw of the old Sicilian crime lords, Murder Inc., Bugsy Siegel, Las Vegas, the Kefauver hearings and beyond.

Apple Original Films is making more moves in the theatrical space. The streaming service is teaming with Universal to give the Henry Cavill spy thriller Argylle a Feb. 2, 2024, exclusive global release.
It’s the latest high-profile feature that Apple has opted to grant a theatrical window ahead of its streaming debut. The company is already teaming with Sony to put Ridley Scott’s Napoleon into theaters this Thanksgiving, while it has Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon due out Oct. 6 via Paramount.
Until this year, streamers have been hesitant to give films a traditional theatrical release. However, major theater chains won’t play a title unless it has an exclusive window (generally, that means 35 to 40 days). In April, Amazon put its Ben Affleck feature Air in theaters before its streaming debut.
Argylle hails from Mathew Vaughn, who produced the film via his Marv banner. Jason Fuchs penned the script.

Six weeks into the writers strike, the early returns on summer studio films have been some of the best since Covid brought the exhibition business to a screeching halt. But if SAG-AFTRA members trade lines of dialogue for picket lines beginning July 1, the business might well look like pandemic redux.
The domestic box office is just getting back on its feet, nearing $4 billion for the year and coursing 30% ahead of the same January-to-early June period a year ago. Theatrical release dates have again become prized commodities worth millions of dollars in revenue and the grease for triggering movies’ downstream revenues. And theatrical has regained a spotlight stolen by streamers during the Covid shutdown.
But what happens to the lineup of summer and fall films and their release slots, film and TV production starts and carefully calibrated Emmy campaigns if there are no actors to promote their films and make new ones?...

Robert De Niro isn’t letting his age slow him down when it comes to making films — or children. In a new interview with Et Canada, the actor revealed that he “just had a baby,” making him a father of seven at 79 years old.
Et Canada confirmed with De Niro’s representatives that the Godfather star has indeed welcomed a new child. There’s no official word on who the mother is, but Page Six did point out that he was recently spotted with his rumored girlfriend — 64-year-old producer Tiffany Chen — as she sported a pretty clear baby bump.
De Niro’s other children are 51-year-old Drena, 46-year-old Raphael, 27-year-old Julian and Aaron, 25-year-old Elliot, and 11-year-old Helen. Many of De Niro’s kids were born via surrogate and/or IVF, which means he either actively pursued having another child or went about it the old-fashioned way, which are both equally terrifying concepts.

Unlike Covid, which forced a sudden and immediate shutdown of feature film productions that ultimately cost the studios anywhere north of $30 million per pic, the Hollywood majors have been planning and bracing for the WGA strike that began today since last fall.
For several of the studios, their theatrical releases dated for 2024 are in post-production, though there are some exceptions.
The contracts for the DGA and SAG-AFTRA do not expire until June 30, and some movie productions are scheduled to start up before then. Studios have figured out workarounds: a handful of tentpole productions are shooting overseas where there isn’t a heavy Teamsters presence, and the possibility of a shoot closing is less likely. Furthermore, studios have either locked scripts for productions, or have gotten sign-off on not having a scribe on set. The priority in case of a shutdown: Getting big action scenes out of the way first. Come Memorial Day weekend,...

Kathrine Narducci Reteaming With Robert De Niro & Barry Levinson For Warner Bros Mob Pic ‘Wise Guys’
Exclusive: Kathrine Narducci will be working again, not just with Robert De Niro, but also filmmaker Barry Levinson, in the latter’s mob pic Wise Guys at Warner Bros.
Wise Guys is a period piece that follows the story of Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, a pair of Italian Americans running two separate crime families during the mid-20th century. Genovese tried and failed to assassinate Costello in 1957, though the latter wound up taking his leave from the mob after being injured during the attempt on his life. De Niro is reportedly playing both roles. Narducci will play Anna Genovese who is the wife of De Niro’s Vito character. It is a story steeped in action and intrigue, but is it true?
The Offer, a new 10-part series starting April 28 on Paramount+, delivers an “inside” account of the making of The Godfather. It is a story about stalwart filmmakers who defied bullets and death threats from Mafia soldiers to deliver their great saga.
But not really. The TV series, written by Michael Tolkin, is loosely based on incidents and anecdotes supplied by Albert S. Ruddy, who produced the movie. They are vivid anecdotes, but they are at odds with the accounts of principals who made the movie — of which I am one — and who encountered a different reality.
