Mark Hamill may be known primarily for playing Luke Skywalker, but he's had a vast, sprawling, eclectic career on both the big and small screen. One of his more recent roles was Jim the Vampire on "What We Do in the Shadows." Hamill-as-Jim appeared in one of the best episodes of the show — "On the Run," the episode that introduces Lazlo's alter ego, Jackie Daytona. Jim is a vampire with a grudge against Lazlo, causing Lazlo to go into hiding as a "regular human bartender."
Hamill really gets to sink his teeth into the part (see what I did?), using a goofy accent and leaning into the silliness of it all. And that's fine — he's a character named Jim the Vampire, that's pretty damn silly.
And how did Hamill end up on the show? Fandom is the answer! Sometimes, being a fan of something can land you a job.

Roger Waters, would rather re-record old Pink Floyd music than reunite with the band’s surviving members for a new tour. As such, on October 6th he’ll release his solo re-recording of the band’s seminal 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon. Today, he’s previewing (Roger’s Version) with the album’s lead single, his version of “Money.”
Waters produced the LP, titled The Dark Side of the Moon Redux along with Gus Seyffert, and recorded the tracks with a studio band comprising Seyffert, Joey Waronker, Jonathan Wilson, Johnny Shepherd, and Jon Carin. Notably, the other members of Pink Floyd who helped to create the original, including David Gilmour and Nick Mason, do not appear on the recordings.
“The original Dark Side of the Moon feels in some ways like the lament of an elder being on the human condition,” Waters said in a statement. “But Dave,...

Last year’s 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards (affectionately known as the Pandemmys because it took place during the Covid-19 pandemic), rewarded a total of 23 contenders with trophies. Shows like “Schitt’s Creek” and “Succession” and actors like Billy Crudup and Zendaya all claimed victory from the safety of their own homes. But of those 23 winners, shockingly only two are eligible to repeat at the 2021 Emmys: “RuPaul’s Drag Race” for Best Competition Program and “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” for Best Variety Talk Series. And they’ll both probably win again.
So, what gives? Why are there so many ineligible shows this time around? It’s a mixture of some programs having ended last year and the coronavirus pandemic halting production on others. “Schitt’s Creek” accounted for all seven of the primetime comedy categories, so that means all of those are up for grabs this year. The Emmy Awards ballot lists 213 episodes (from 118 series), so there will be seven nominees this year under the new rules. There were seven for the first time in the category’s history last year:
“Barry” season 2: “ronny/lily” (Alec Berg & Bill Hader) Winner — “Fleabag” season 2: “Episode 1” (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) “The Good Place” season 3 — “Janet(s)” (Josh Siegal & Dylan Morgan) “PEN15” season 1: “Anna Ishii-Peters” (Maya Erskine & Anna Konkle & Stacy Osei-Kuffour) “Russian Doll” season 1: “Nothing in This World is Easy” (Natasha Lyonne) “Russian Doll” season 1: “A Warm Body” (Allison Silverman) “Veep” season 7: “Veep” (David Mandel)
Only “The Good Place” returns to defend its slot. “Better Things,” “Ramy” and “Sex Education” are among those hoping to capitalize on the open field after being snubbed last year. “The Good Place” contends for its series finale, as do “Schitt’s Creek” and “Silicon Valley.” “Schitt’s Creek” seeks its first nomination in...

“You’d be surprised the amount of research we’ve had to do,” confesses executive producer Stefani Robinson from “What We Do in the Shadows.” In our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video above), she continues, “For the first season we had actual textbooks in the room about the different vampire lore from country to country. There is overwhelming consistent crossover. There’s also crazy stuff I’ve never heard of; like if you spill a bunch of rice, vampires have to pick it up before they do anything else in some cultures.”
The FX vampire mockumentary comedy also features Robinson as a writer on the show. She explains, “The ways vampires die is pretty consistent. Be-headings, fire, stakes in heart and going out into the sun. It’s tricky to write vampires in the world because we can only do so at night. What can they get away with in after hours?...

Earlier in June, Rolling Stone posted an in-depth article about how Melissa Reese “broke the Guns N’ Roses glass ceiling” by becoming the first official female member of the band. But by the time she reached that glass ceiling, there were six fairly large cracks in it placed there by horn players Cece Worrall-Rubin, Anne King, and Lisa Maxwell, and background singers Diane Jones, Traci Amos, and Roberta Freeman.

Breaking: Paramount is taking The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run off the theatrical calendar and sending it straight into homes for an early 2021 release. We heard sources talking about this earlier today. Sponge on the Run will go on PVOD before it hits CBS All Access.
The movie was originally scheduled to play over Memorial Day weekend before Covid-19, but was rescheduled for Aug. 7.
While it’s a move that seems similar to Warner Bros. segue with another theatrical release, Scoob!, another TV property made for the big screen, which ultimately premiered in homes instead of cinemas due to Covid-19, the SpongeBob movies have rained a great a mount of cash on the Melrose lot. The first 2004 movie earned $141M at the global box office, followed by the 2015’s Sponge Out of Water which grossed $325.1M.

Before Edward Nygma fully embraces his Riddler persona, Gotham fans have much to look forward to when Jerome once again walks among the living in tonight’s episode, “Mad City: Smile Like You Mean It.”
Thanks to TV Insider, a fresh batch of images have been released in advance of said episode depicting Jerome acting more Joker-ish than ever before. In addition to sporting a reattached face that is no doubt a nod to the Batman: Death of the Family comic book arc, we see him embrace his inner showman when he dons a ringleader’s outfit for a circus that we can only guess won’t be fun for the whole family.
Actor Cameron Monaghan, the proto-Joker himself, had this to say regarding his highly anticipated return:
“I really can’t wait for people to see it. We have a few different looks [for him]…it looks really great.

Last Monday's midseason premiere of Gotham teased the resurrection of the psychotic Jerome, who will most likely go on to become the show's incarnation of Batman's most iconic foe, The Joker. Though we glimpsed his grotesque visage via some pre-recorded footage, the character is only set to make his grand entrance during tonight's episode, and TV Insider has debuted some official stills of the returning villain. “I really can’t wait for people to see it,” Monaghan told the site. “We have a few different looks [for him]…it looks really great. Our make-up special effects designer Mike Maddi did a phenomenal job.” Darkness Prevails On An All-new "Gotham" Monday, January 23, On Fox On the run from Gordon and Bullock, Dwight (guest star David Dastmalchian) tries to ?revive Jerome (guest star Cameron Monaghan) and, in turn, activates his acolytes around Gotham City. Following its holiday hiatus, Gotham returned to the airwaves in style yesterday evening thanks to the midseason premiere of “Mad City: Ghosts.”
In many ways, the episode laid the groundwork for the remainder of season 3, as Mayor Oswald Cobblepot’s reign begins to falter under pressure from Ed Nygma. But without question, it was the long-anticipated return of Jerome Valeska that stole the headlines. Resurrecting the show’s proto-Joker has been long on the cards, but it appears as though Gotham‘s creative team are also leaving the door open for a Harley Quinn cameo appearance further down the line – likely during the season 3 finale.
During an interview with TV Guide, producer John Stephens teased that “we might see [Quinn] in Episode 22,” which will seemingly tee up season 4’s narrative arc. All of this is yet to be confirmed, so don’t go banking on a Harley Quinn cameo in Gotham season 3 just yet.

In the mid-season premiere of Gotham last night we saw the return of a very creepy looking Jerome, who will most likely end up being The Joker. It looks like later this season he will be joined by the show's own version of Harley Quinn!
The Harley Quinn news comes from executive producer John Stephens who told TV Guide, “We might see [her] in Episode 22,” and then teased that the character will be the “launching point” for the main plot of the fourth season of Gotham.
I'm excited and curious to see how Gotham's version of this character will turn out. There's no information on what that might look like, so we'll just have to wait and see.
I also included a promo spot for next week's episode, titled “Smile Like You Mean It,” along with a plot description:

We only saw a few brief glimpses of Cameron Monaghan's Jerome Valeska on tonight's midseason premiere of Gotham, but next week it looks like the deranged villain will make his actual return to to the land of the living with a little help from one of his obsessed disciples, Dwight Pollard (Dark Knight and Ant-Man actor David Dastmalchian). It'll be very interesting to witness Jerome's journey from this point on, and to see if he really does evolve into The Clown Prince of Crime. In related news, executive producer John Stephens tells TV Guide that we "might" see a proto version of Harley Quinn in the season 3 finale. If she does turn up, it's a safe bet she'll be a member of the Joker cult. Check out the promo for "Smile like you Mean It" below, along with some promotional stills Here. Returning for the second half of its second season Sunday, Fear the Walking Dead followed Nick down the long and perilous road to Tijuana. Yes, go ahead, you can say it. “How long and perilous was it?” It was so long — 100 miles — and so perilous — Madison’s son was attacked by everything from sharpshooters to cacti — that, at times, it didn’t look like he was going to make it. Did he? If you don’t already know, read on and find out.

"I want people to get infuriated by it," Martin Scorsese said of his initial impulse in making "Goodfellas." "I wanted to seduce everyone into the movie and into the style. And then just take them apart with it."
In fact, some people were appalled and repulsed at the early screenings of "Goodfellas," which opened 25 years ago this week (on Sept. 19, 1990). At one test preview, there were mass walkouts within the first 10 minutes. But Scorsese's angry gesture soon backfired. Viewers did get seduced by the lowlife mobsters (taken from Nicholas Pileggi's 1985 true-crime book "Wiseguy") and the director's own adrenalized filmmaking style. Instead of an assault on the audience, "Goodfellas" became one of the most influential and beloved movies of the past quarter century.
In honor of "Goodfellas" turning 25 this week, here are 25 things you need to know about Scorsese's masterpiece. Don't let that red sauce burn on the stove while you're reading.

UKTV’s Dave have announced what they’re calling their “biggest import of 2012″ – Us drama, Suits. This all new American drama focuses on Michael ‘Mike’ Ross (Patrick J. Adams), a lazy but brilliant college dropout with a photographic memory. On the run from a drug deal gone bad, Mike accidentally slips into a job interview with one of New York City’s best lawyers, Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht). Tired of cookie-cutter law school grads, suave quick-witted businessman Harvey takes a gamble by hiring Mike on the spot, despite the firm’s policy of hiring only Harvard Law graduates.
Proving to be an irrepressible duo and invaluable to the practice, Mike and Harvey must keep their secret from everyone including managing partner Jessica (Firefly’s Gina Torres) and Harvey’s arch nemesis Louis (Rick Hoffman), who seems intent on making Mike’s life as difficult as possible.

Ever since the Dawn of the Dead remake exploded a few years back there has been an even greater explosion of zombie movies. There have been many shoddy, even offensive in their lack of quality, releases popping up all over the place. On the flipside though there have been some quality releases that have kept the Undead flag flying high and proud. One such film that aims to join the list of quality releases is the upcoming release of The Dead from Anchor Bay. It will be released on both DVD and Blu-ray on February 14th. Directed by The Ford Brothers under intense conditions in Africa, it looks set to put a new perspective on the Zombie movie. Let’s face it, it’ll make a wonderful gift for Valentine’s Day! Cast your eyes down for more details on the release.

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this February. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.9 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant stack of returned copies of Holy Terror since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The new look of Darkseid, and we’re far enough into the new 52 books that it’s time for Batman to start crossing over in all of them. Plus Mara Jade, the red-haired assassin who fell in love with her blond-haired man she was sent to kill– oh, I’m sorry, that’s from Star Wars. This is Mera in a jade outfit. Our mistake.
Shall we? Surely!
As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

For his work on such titles as Captain America and Daredevil, Ed Brubaker has won the Eisner Awards best writer prize for three of the past five years. Add to that the trophy for Best Comic Book Writer at the recent Spike TV Scream Awards.
Now he is adapting his crime-noir graphic novel Coward into a movie for Hunting Lane Films, with David Slade taking the director's chair.
Coward - the first book in the Criminal series by Brubaker and illustrator Sean Phillips - tells the story of Leo, a legendary thief who breaks his own life-saving set of rules when he is lured into a risky heist. On the run from cops and double-crossers, Leo must face the violence he's kept bottled up inside for 20 years.
Brubaker told Variety: "It's a good role for any actor; about a guy who's afraid to do things because of what's inside of him.

After the break-up of a great band, the subsequent solo releases need to balance everything that is needed for a great record: sounding fresh, different and inventive without alienating the fans that you left behind. An example of a solo that was not so successful was Liam Gallagher’s post-Oasis band Beady Eye, which took all the worst parts of Oasis and made an album out of them. Their first album ‘Different Gear, Still Speeding’ was incredibly dull, even disappointing the charts by only reaching number three in the charts. Over six months later and Liam Gallagher’s brother and Oasis band mate, Noel Gallagher is releasing his first album under the name ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’
When ‘High Flying Birds’ first starts it sound not too dissimilar from Oasis songs such as ‘The Masterplan’ and ‘The Importance of Being Idle’. The ‘oh so familiar’ soft Manchurian voice...

Our friends at HBO have sent us a special sneak peek at the second episode of the third season of Bored to Death, the neurotic detective comedy that is one of my personal favourites which stars the too-cool trio of Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis.
On the run from the police, Jonathan (Jonathan Schwartzman) and Ray (Zach Galifianakis) turn to Howard (Patton Oswalt) for help with trying to find out who framed Jonathan for murder, while George runs interference for them in his own inimitable, marijuana-induced way.

This is just about the coolest honeymoon of all time.
Sir Paul McCartney, the former Beatle with an infinite motor, announced on Monday that he is headed on an 11-date world tour. The announcement comes just a day after he tied the knot for the third time, marrying American heiress and businesswoman Nancy Shevell in London.
The tour, dubbed the "On The Run" tour, a clear homage to his famed "Band on the Run" period in the 70s, will start in Abu Dhabi and move on to Paris, Russia, Italy and London, finish in his hometown of Liverpool.
"My audiences seem to get better each year and the band and I love the buzz and feedback that they give us," he said in the statement. "I can't wait to see you all for some wild nights of rock n' roll and partying."...

In ratings news, last night's premiere of American Horror Story scored well with viewers, and when the dust has settled may be the biggest debut ever on f/x. As expected, NBC's Free Agents has joined The Playboy Club in the cancellation bin. Meanwhile, ABC's Happy Endings was down 9%, and Reven8e was down 7%. There's no need for concern with the latter, as it's still firmly in second place in the 18-49 demo in its time slot, but the ratings for Happy Endings are troubling. On the run for 40 years, Wright's tale has what it takes for screen success. But such storytelling needs a conscientious approach
If the story of George Wright, the convicted murderer captured this week in Portugal after 40 years on the run, has not yet been optioned by an enterprising producer, then the film industry has really missed a trick. From a cinematic storytelling perspective, this tale has everything. Wright, who had participated in a spree of armed robberies, was imprisoned for the murder of the service station owner Walter Patterson in 1962, only to escape from the Bayside state prison farm in Leesburg, New Jersey, in 1970. Already you've got the heist movie and the prison break-out movie covered. That's a big market: expressed in mathematical terms the potential audience would be (fans of Bonnie and Clyde) + (fans of The Shawshank Redemption). And only a fool would rule out defenders of Buster.
But there's more.

Swamped doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt this weekend, yet I’m still alive and well. The ticketing system from earlier in the week continued to work flawlessly for all involved, though I heard a few grumbles about some not getting tickets for the screenings they wanted. However, standby at Fantastic Fest has yet to fail me or anyone I know that were diligent and willing to wait. Instead of having a daily journal as was intended for this weekend, I have decided to clump them all together in two parts for today. So, let’s get to the recap of this fantastic weekend.
The Yellow Sea from director Hong-jin Na (The Chaser) is a Korean action drama that showcases over half a dozen vicious knife and hatchet fights in a riveting but long-winded story. The film follows a down on his luck taxi driver who is...

The Ford Brothers’ The Dead, an African-set zombie apocalypse, is coming to the U.S., with a variety of release dates starting October 7th, followed by more cities on the 14th and 21st. Click here for complete list.
To celebrate, here’s a new one-sheet for the film, which looks pretty cool.
When the last evacuation flight out of war-torn Africa crashes off the coast, American Air Force Engineer Lieutenant Brian Murphy (Rob Freeman) emerges as the sole survivor in a land where the dead are returning to life and attacking the living.
On the run in a hostile and inhospitable parched landscape, where sudden death lurks around every sun-burnished corner, Murphy has to use his wits and ingenuity if he is to get home alive to his family.
When Murphy’s path clashes with that of Sergeant Daniel Dembele (Prince David Osei), whose village has been torn apart by the reanimated dead,...

In spite — or perhaps because — of him being one of the biggest movie stars in the world, Brad Pitt is also one of the more interesting. A man with as much money and fame as him could just do easy material and collect a paycheck, but look at some of the directors he’s worked with over his career: Quentin Tarantino, David Fincher, the Coen brothers, Terrence Malick, Terry Gilliam, Steven Soderbergh (okay, only one of those was Full Frontal), and Andrew Dominik, among others. All are daring filmmakers who defy a number of mainstream conventions, and he’s had prominent roles in films of theirs.
He’s currently filming World War Z with Marc Forster (I’d mention how this is another example of him branching out, but you hopefully get the point by now), and his schedule after that is open. Variety says that he may follow it up with The Gray Man,...

James Gray, the director of films such as Two Lovers and We Own the Night, was once set to direct [1] The Lost City of Z, featuring Brad Pitt. Things changed on that front, as Gray and Paramount couldn't come to financial terms [2] for the big-budget 'expedition to the Amazon' film. (Ironically, the same issue was once a stumbling block for the similarly -titled World War Z, also at Paramount, which is now in production with Pitt under the director of Marc Forster.) But as often seems to be the scenario with Brad Pitt and certain directors, the star and filmmaker are now set to come together on another project. Pitt is in talks to star in The Gray Man, an adaptation of Mark Greaney‘s assassin thriller novel. We heard earlier this year that Gray would direct the film [3], about a former CIA man turned assassin who has to fight...

Chicago – Fred Cavaye follows his international hit “Anything For Her” (remade here as the Russell Crowe vehicle “The Next Three Days”) with another sure-to-be-remade action thriller yet again about an unlucky man going to whatever ends required to save the love of his life. With crackerjack pacing and a driven, no-frills script that brings the whole thing to a lean close in under 80 minutes (sans credits), “Point Blank” is an adrenalin-driven shot to the arthouse scene. It may be ultimately too inconsequential and a bit too manipulative to be considered great, but it’s still pretty damn enjoyable.
