‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the newest addition to the franchise, having premiered three weeks ago amid a polarizing reception. It has stirred significant debate, hailed by some for innovation while criticized for straying from canon and its high budget. Online opinions range from extreme praise to severe criticism, but the reality lies somewhere in between.
Could the show improve? Certainly. With a $180 million budget, my expectations were higher than what we’ve seen in just two episodes of minimal action. However, we’re only halfway through the season, and anticipating epic fight scenes ahead is warranted. As I’ve noted, the show is a mixed bag, showcasing both strong elements and significant shortcomings under the showrunner’s direction.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the latest installment in the franchise. The show premiered 3 weeks ago to a significant degree of both review-boosting and review-bombing. It will go down in infamy as one of the most controversial installments, due to canon-breaking and significantly hefty budget.
Apparently, if you read opinions online the show is either the worst thing to happen to Star Wars or the best thing to happen to Star Wars, when in reality it’s sort of a mix bag.
Could the show be better? Absolutely, on top of a $180 million budget, I have to admit I expect a lot more than two whole episodes of nothing but it’s important to note that we’re only halfway through the show and we do expect some epic fight scenes to come our way. As I’ve already mentioned, the show is a mixed bag, and there are some...

Hayden Christensen alert! The internet is buzzing with rumors: Is he the next Batman? Our Anakin Skywalker is politely shutting down the cape and cowl talk, praising Robert Pattinson’s take. But fear not Vader fans! Christensen is clearly comfortable wielding the dark side again, joking that Darth Vader would “beat everybody, always.”

Decades back, at the hands of George Lucas, Star Wars came to life with the live-action adaptation of the same name. Featuring the saga of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia’s quest to overthrow the tyrant galactic empire, the original trilogy that began in 1977, finally culminated with 1983’s Return of the Jedi.
Laced with moments that have now become the staple of modern pop culture, the flick’s impact could have taken an even more resounding form had the runtime allowed for more scenes and prevented them from deletion.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ premiered 3 weeks ago, and even before its premiere the show was quite controversial with its premise, and some statements that cast members and creators gave to the public. Soon after its premiere, the show turned out to be a classic example of both review-bombing and review-boosting. Critics gave it unreasonable high scores while fans gave it unreasonable low scores.
Currently, the show has 85% on Rotten Tomatoes when it comes to critics score and a 14% audience score, but as it turns out the streaming numbers have started to reflect the dissatisfaction that fans feel for the show.
Soon after its premiere, Disney was happy to flaunt the numbers that the show was streamed 11 million times in its first 5 days, and then following the highly controversial episode 3 the show was watched for 380.5 million minutes (estimated number) becoming 6th most streamed TV show in June 7th-June 13th week.

Disney’s new Star Wars project, The Acolyte finally premiered on Disney+ on June 4, 2024, with two episodes, and despite all the controversies and review bombing, the series is still one of the most talked about shows currently. The critics are more or less satisfied, seeing a lot of potential in the series, while the fans are polarized, with some liking the show and others hating it. The latter group is mostly filled with those who don’t like the so-called “woke” content in the show, which makes absolutely no sense. But, whether you think the show is too woke or not, it is definitely bold in its approach, and it introduces a lot of new concepts and characters.
One of the latter is the enigmatic character known as The Master, a seemingly powerful Sith Lord who is also the master of Mae-ho Aniseya, one of the series’ main characters. Save...

Introduced as the antagonist of the original trilogy in the Star Wars saga, Darth Vader has since become one of the most iconic cinematic characters. The subsequent projects in the franchise have further delved into his abilities, not only as the Sith Lord but also as the chosen one, Anakin Skywalker.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ Episode 4 premiered yesterday, and it was perhaps even more controversial than Episode 3. Several instances of “canon-breaking” were noted, first, the Sith Lord who decided to reveal himself to the Jedi near the end of the episode and the presence of Ki-Adi-Mundi, who shouldn’t be alive during this part of Star Wars history.
The biggest letdown of the episode was certainly the death of Wookie Jedi Kelnacca, we never saw the character on screen for more than a few seconds. This hit fans hard considering that they have been asking for a Wookie Jedi for decades.
The thing with Kelnacca is as follows. He was one of the Jedi stationed at Brendok during the time when Osha’s and Mae’s family was killed in a terrible accident, which was, as far as we know, caused by Mae herself. Now 16 years later, Mae is hunting down...

Star Wars fans continue to hate The Acolyte as the audience rating drops down to an extremely low 14% despite the fresh Tomatometer score of 84%. One particular scene in the series has now irked fans for the complete absence of logic to meet its objective of representation. Leslye Headland’s show featured an obese Jedi character and fans questioned the inclusion of the character considering the physical and mental training undergone by the Jedi.

The debut of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ has deeply split the community. The show has received both glowing praise and harsh criticism from fans and critics alike, each passionately arguing whether ‘The Acolyte’ is a groundbreaking addition or a detriment to Star Wars canon.
Moreover, the discussion around canon has been intense across the first four episodes. The show’s pacing has been widely criticized for being inconsistent, yet when pivotal moments occur, they provoke strong reactions from all perspectives.
Let’s begin with the authentic aspects of the show. ‘The Acolyte’ draws from the Expanded Universe and explores the High Republic era of the Star Wars galaxy, providing a fresh perspective without a live-action precedent for comparison. The introduced characters have been vibrant, with particular attention to the Wookiee Jedi Kelnacca, though many feel he has been underutilized and his potential wasted (his backstory will be further explored in...

The release of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ has severely divided the community. The show has been review-boosted and review-bombed simultaneously by fans and critics alike all chiming in with their arguments why ‘The Acolyte’ is both the best and the worst thing to happen to Star Wars canon.
Oh, and canon has been terribly discussed over the course of 4 episodes that were released. The show so far has terrible pacing, and when something interesting happens, it draws tons of reactions on both sides.
So let’s start with the authentic portion of the show. The show is based on the EU and deals with the High Republic era of Galaxy Far Away, this is why we don’t exactly have a reference point in live-action to compare it to something else. So far the characters introduced are colorful and I think no one minds them all that much, especially Wookie Jedi Kelnacca,...

Instead of taking the story of The Acolyte forward, the third episode of the show turned the clocks back by 16 years to show the origins of Mae and Osha’s estranged relationship. Mae and Osha belonged to a coven of witches who practiced the Force, away from the prying eyes of the Jedi, on Brendok. Osha wasn’t too keen on following in the footsteps of their mothers and becoming a witch. So, when the Jedi infiltrated the fortress of the witches, Osha expressed her intention of becoming a Jedi. The witches tried their best to convince Osha to think about her decision for a second because if she became a Jedi, she wouldn’t get to see her mother again. Osha defied everyone and truthfully participated in the Jedi test, while Mae did the exact opposite. Angered by Osha’s stance, Mae started a fire, which apparently killed all the witches and injured Torbin.

This Star Wars: The Acolyte review contains spoilers.
Following a strong third episode revealing the nature of Osha and Mae’s separation, The Acolyte’s fourth episode unfortunately reverts back to the overly familiar mode of Star Wars TV storytelling that continues to bog the series down. The show is perfectly watchable, but is that enough in an age of television that is so rife with phenomenal series that it’s mathematically impossible to watch them all?
The hunt for Mae is on as the crew of Jedi led by Sol track her to Khofar to intercept her before she reaches the next target on her hit list, Wookiee Jedi Kelnacca. An issue from the first episode persists: Mae is tough to buy as a serial killer, to the point where even the material itself seems to get confused. Mae is supposed to be a murderer, but the way Sol...

The first two episodes of The Acolyte introduced a Jedi-killing assassin named Mae who was working for an unnamed masked Sith Lord. Mae had an identical twin sister, Osha, who was blamed for the murder of Jedi Master Indara. Since Osha was a former Jedi herself, the Jedi High Council was worried that if the rumors turned out to be true, then their political rivals would use this incident to gain momentum. So, Jedi Master Sol, Jedi Knight Yord, and Padawan Jecki Lon were sent to get to the bottom of this. During this period, Mae killed Jedi Master Torbin and highlighted the fact that she was going after those Jedi who were stationed on Brendok and were likely responsible for the death of her tribe. To make matters even more complicated, everyone thought that Mae had died on Brendok, and Mae was under the impression that Osha had died there.

The vast galactic story of Star Wars begins with Episode I: The Phantom Menace – a relatively tame chapter in the extraordinary mythology of George Lucas. By the time The Clone Wars enters the picture, a monumental shift can be recognized within each character who has already begun to be molded toward their destinies. Among them lies a fleeting but unforgettable arc of Darth Maul.

With the debut of “murder-mystery” show The Acolyte this week on Disney+ we thought we’d take a look at the ten best villains in the Star Wars saga:
1. Darth Vader

There are plenty of new characters for Star Wars fans to love in The Acolyte, but the internet seems to be especially fond of one Jedi in particular – Yord Fandar (Charlie Barnett). Amandla Stenberg’s The Acolyte is the new addition to Disney’s Star Wars roster, which continues the House of Mouse’s formula to bank on small-screen releases since the debacle of The Rise of Skywalker. Moreover, following the mixed reception to the sequel trilogy, in recent years, fans have been warming up to the prequel trilogy, which was initially panned upon their release.
But while the public perception towards the prequels has changed over time, a majority still holds the original Star Wars trilogy at the top, and for good reason. However, Stenberg, who is not new to controversies, had a surprising answer when asked about her favorite entry in the franchise.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ recently dropped the first two episodes. The show takes place during the High Republic era or 100 years before the chronologically first movie in the franchise, ‘The Phantom Menace.’
Although High Republic Era was already touched upon in ‘Young Jedi Adventures,’ this is the first time this time period is adapted to live-action which means there is a lot of potential to explore some of the Expanded Universe stories, particularly non-canon stories related to Darth Plagueis.
Darth Plagueis was a Sith Lord who lived before the events of the Skywalker Saga, he is already dead during the events of Phantom Menace, killed by his own apprentice Palpatine, and while we can’t possibly see the two of them interact in this setting due to Palpatine only being in his 50s during the events of ‘Phantom Menace,’ we might as well see young Plagueis.

The first episode of The Acolyte introduced us to Mae, a resident of the planet Brendok, who was going around the galaxy killing Jedi. Mae was out for revenge, and given how that’s the path to the Dark Side, a Sith Lord had gotten his hands on her soul and was mentoring her toward a catastrophic future. Meanwhile, her twin sister, Osha, was left to face the repercussions of her actions. When Osha’s former master, Sol, learned about this, he was perplexed because he knew Osha wasn’t a killer. So, he decided to bring her to Coruscant herself instead of leaving her at the mercy of a bunch of droids. When Sol started talking about Mae starting a fire in Brendok, which allegedly killed Mae and the rest of her and Osha’s tribe, it became clear that Sol and Osha had no idea that Mae was alive,...

Review: The reception for Disney-era Star Wars has been uneven, to say the least. While The Force Awakens broke box office records, The Last Jedi became the most divisive sequel of all time, and The Rise of Skywalker pooped the bed for most fans. Still, the anthology films Rogue One and Solo have dedicated fans, which is more than can be said for any of the Disney+ Star Wars series outside of The Mandalorian and Andor. Starring in the final two prequels of George Lucas’ Star Wars films, Hayden Christensen’s portrayal of Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader was met with unparalleled excitement. However, some fans of the sci-fi film had a different reaction when the film was initially released because Christensen’s portrayal of the character was met with criticism. Nevertheless, when the actor made his much-anticipated return in Obi-Wan Kenobi, he won the fandom with his memorable performance.

Created by George Lucas, the Star Wars franchise is one of the most epic sagas ever told. From the fall of Anakin Skywalker to Luke Skywalker’s eventual defeat of the Emperor, it is a classic tale of good vs evil. As a result, it is obvious that the saga required a compelling antagonist and the Sith Lord Palpatine might just be one of the best villains in the franchise.

In The Acolyte, Jedi are being killed — but who’s doing the killing? That appears to be one of the central mysteries of the show… and believe it or not, the answer might already be right in front of us. Here’s why we think we might’ve unmasked The Acolyte’s Sith Lord. A Key Sith Phrase In The Acolyte’s second trailer, there’s either an obvious clue about the Sith Lord’s identity or a massive misdirect. When we see Manny Jacinto’s character, Qimir, he tells Mae (Amandla Stenberg) that “peace is a lie.” That particular choice of words pricked up the ears of many a Star Wars fan, who recognized it as the first line of the Code of the Sith. As far as we currently know, ...

We got a good feeling about this: Disney+’s latest Star Wars special is revealing Darth Jar Jar.
The trailer (below) for the animated special Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy unveils a menacing Sith Lord version of the much-maligned Gungan character, who was infamously introduced in 1999’s The Phantom Menace.
From the official description, the premise for the special is “the Star Wars Galaxy gets completely mixed up when an ordinary nerf-herder, Sig Greebling (Gaten Matarazzo), unearths a powerful artifact from a hidden Jedi temple. He finds himself thrust into adventure in a new, wondrously wild and twisted version of the galaxy where good guys are bad, bad guys are good, and the fate of all depends on Sig becoming the hero who can put all the pieces back together.”

Samuel L. Jackson is an acting legend who has starred in numerous movies of all genres. Among his major movies are School Daze (1988), Do the Right Thing (1989), Mo’ Better Blues (1990), Jungle Fever (1991), Oldboy (2013), and Chi-Raq (2015), Tarantino’s films Jackie Brown (1997), Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004), Django Unchained (2012), and The Hateful Eight (2015), but he also has two extremely popular roles in his filmography – that of Nick Fury in the MCU, as well as that of Mace Windu in the Star Wars franchise.
We know that Mace Windu died in The Revenge of the Sith, but the character had already been a fan favorite by that moment and since then, there have been numerous calls for Windu to return to the series, implying that the character did not die during the fated battle against Palpatine. Samuel L. Jackson was recently asked about it and he made his opinion on the matter quite clear.

While the state of the Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic remake may be questionable, what we know for sure is that Hot Toys is blowing it out of the water with this Darth Revan premium action figure!
The Sith Lord, who found him/herself with a bad case of forgetfulness, is represented here in copper-tinted glory! In typical Hot Toys fashion, the 12″ figure is loaded with fine detail, excellent soft goods, and a pair of LED lightsabers. Sadly, you’re stuck with only red and purple.
Darth Revan will be available in three editions, two of which (Collector’s Edition Sith and Jedi) come with a commemorative coin. The Exclusive and Collector Edition of Revan are now available to pre-order through Sideshow. Interestingly, no matter which one you pick, they’re priced at $270.

One of the most famous scenes in the Star Wars film saga almost didn’t happen at all. Although the movie was always going to end with Anakin Skywalker losing a few limbs, the stunt team behind Prequel Trilogy closer originally choreographed a different climax for Revenge of the Sith‘s final duel between brothers. In fact, an earlier version of the fight on Mustafar didn’t have Obi-Wan getting the high ground on Anakin at all; there was no cocky last leap from young Skywalker to seal his fate.
As Revenge of the Sith stunt coordinator Nick Gillard explained to Empire magazine, “Originally, they both land on the side of the lava flow and immediately start fighting. Anakin disarms Obi and grabs him by the throat. He’s about to chop his head off, but Obi sucks the lightsaber into his hand in a defensive move to try and block it,...

A second season of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi was first announced at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, and fans have since been eager to see which characters this season’s installments would be about. Would we see more stories from Ahsoka and Count Dooku, or different characters entirely? Nearly a year after it was first announced, we have a first look at the new season, now named Tales of the Empire.
Tales of the Empire will focus on the stories of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka’s Lady Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) and, to the delight of many, former Jedi Padawan Barriss Offee (Meredith Salenger), who was last seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

David Dastmalchian thought it was a mistake when he was offered the chance to play the lead role in 'Late Night with the Devil'.The 48-year-old actor stars in the horror flick as the 1970s talk show host Jack Delroy but had reservations about taking the part in the movie from sibling directors Colin and Cameron Cairnes.David told The Hollywood Reporter: "I looked at the log line and said, 'Which lead?' There's no way anybody thinks I'm the guy to play a late-night talk show host."There's a lot of roles that I can imagine myself slipping into: Bond villain, Sith Lord, cult leader, creepy suspect number 17, but charming, witty, funny talk show host?"David doubted that he would be able to do the part justice but had an "incredible experience" working with the Cairnes brothers and is looking forward to the rest of the world seeing the film.

For Late Night with the Devil star David Dastmalchian, all roads lead to and from Christopher Nolan.
In 2007, Dastmalchian was a struggling local theater actor in Chicago, and when Nolan’s The Dark Knight set up shop in the Windy City, he went through a circuitous casting process before eventually landing a part in his very first feature film. Dastmalchian played Thomas Schiff, a paranoid schizophrenic and former Arkham Asylum inmate that Heath Ledger’s The Joker disguised as his fellow honor guardsman during their infiltration of Commissioner Loeb’s funeral procession. When gunshots rang out and chaos ensued, Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) cornered Schiff in an ambulance and then forcefully interrogated him in another location.
14 years later, as Dastmalchian began to prepare for the role of the charismatic but troubled late-night talk show host Jack Delroy in Cameron and Colin Cairnes’ Late Night with the Devil, his greatest inspiration...

Disney is giving us a blast from the past with its next entry in the Star Wars series, as showrunner Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) takes us back to the golden age of the High Republic. Going back further on the timeline than live-action Star Wars has before, The Acolyte takes place at the height of the Jedi Order’s power, 100 years before Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn blundered their trade negotiations in The Phantom Menace.
With a largely new cast, the first trailer for The Acolyte gave us a look at Amandla Stenberg‘s rogue warrior Mae, The Matrix’s Carrie-Anne Moss and Squid Game‘s Lee Jung-jae as Jedi Masters, and Solo’s Joonas Suotamo playing the Wookiee Jedi Kelnacca. But despite the many Jedi in the story, Headland has said that the show also tackles the story of the Sith and how they managed to infiltrate and corrupt the Republic and the Jedi Order.

Praise the Mortis Gods! "The Acolyte" is giving us a reason to get excited about live-action "Star Wars" television again while we patiently await the second season of "Andor." After "The Mandalorian" season 3 saw its namesake frustratingly sidelined in favor of setting up Dave Filoni's larger New Republic arc and "Ahsoka" season 1 left me and others feeling like the convergence of live-action and animated "Star Wars" is a real mixed blessing, "Russian Doll" co-creator Leslye Headland is here to change things up. "The Acolyte" is set in the High Republic era, a period that's been explored in the ongoing High Republic publishing initiative but has never before been realized in live-action. That alone should be enough to pique the interest of anyone who's ready for a "Star Wars" series that's less beholden to setting up future shows and can exist more independently.

Comparing it to another beloved sci-fi franchise, Star Wars, fans couldn’t help but notice striking parallels and inspirations drawn by the latter from the former.

As the legendary Anakin Skywalker, it was on Hayden Christensen to show us how an idealistic teenager lost his way, becoming cinema’s most iconic villain. He talks exclusively to Empire about taking on Tusken Raiders, younglings, and the weight of expectations.
This is where the fun begins. For years, we’d wondered — dreamed — how it happened. How the almost mythical figure, Anakin Skywalker — Luke’s dad! — came to be clad in pitch-black armour, serving as the right-hand enforcer of galactic tyrant Emperor Palpatine, and striking fear through the hearts of everyone in the galaxy, Force-choking his way across the stars. Then finally, after over two decades of us pondering it all, George Lucas’ prequel trilogy was announced, promising to answer our feverish, lingering questions.

Part of the beauty of the "Star Wars" universe is how big and populated it is. Not only did the original trilogy deliver groundbreaking visual effects, but George Lucas wrote enough backstory and worldbuilding while working on the first film to sustain decades' worth of "Star Wars" movies. That worldbuilding also resulted in hundreds of smaller background characters that became overnight fan favorites once the movies — and the merchandise — started arriving. Even the most inconsequential one-off characters suddenly became beloved by audiences despite there being little to no official information available about them — at least, until we got entire novels and books devoted to every Glup Shitto and Max Rebo out there.
Of course, not every character gets that treatment. In fact, there is one character we only know the name of because the actor decided to take matters into his own hands during shooting — Quarsh Panaka. You remember that guy,...

There’s no denying that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker certainly made some… interesting storytelling choices, especially with its main villain, who somehow returned to strike back at Rey and the Resistance. Not only does the movie reveal that Supreme Leader Snoke was just one of Emperor Palpatine’s clones all along, and that he’s been secretly preparing for the return of the true Empire and the Sith on Exegol, but we also get the biggest twist of all: Rey (Daisy Ridley) is his granddaughter.

Star Wars Prequel Cast Revisits The Trilogy 25 Years Later In Empire’s Anniversary Issue – Exclusive
Back in 1999, a brand new era in the galaxy far, far away came to life. George Lucas’ Star Wars prequels told an epic tale of fallen Jedi, forbidden romance, and the dismantling of democracy – assembling a whole new cast to inhabit his vast space-opera. The stars who entered that sandbox took a bold step, not only working at the frontier of digital filmmaking techniques, but conjuring a Star Wars saga that stood apart visually and tonally from the beloved originals. The likes of Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Liam Neeson and Ian McDiarmid became an entire generation’s set of Star Wars heroes (and villains) – and they all spoke to Empire for our epic new issue, celebrating 25 years of the trilogy.
For Ewan McGregor, the pressure of playing the young Obi-Wan Kenobi was eased by working alongside Liam Neeson – whose Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn suffers a noble end in...

The 2008 cartoon series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" is now a heralded piece of the "Star Wars" legacy, filling in plenty of gaps in the "Star Wars" prequel film trilogy. It also finally told the story of the eponymous conflict — which was first namedropped all the way back in the original 1977 "Star Wars." "The Clone Wars" was a story that had been speculated on for more than 40 years. What if I told you, though, that the story had already been recounted by 2008?
In between the theatrical releases of "Attack of the Clones" (in 2002) and "Revenge of the Sith" (in 2005), Lucasfilm launched "The Clone Wars Multimedia Project." This was a collection of tie-in media telling the story between the films of a galaxy at war.
The essentials of the project include:
"Star Wars: Clone Wars," an animated series directed by Genndy Tartakovsky of "Samurai Jack" fame.
Issues #49-83 of the "Star Wars: Republic" comic series,...
