Move over Batman, there’s a new flavour of the month in town. Superman’s having a good time of it right now. He’s just finished a mammoth storyline featuring Mongul in his own books, has been involved in Dark Crisis, just celebrated/ commemorated the 30th anniversary of his death/return, and is now getting another shiny special. Throw in the fact we get stories from Mark Waid and Marv Wolfman here, and I’m a happy man. This special has the typical DC anthology setup, with four different stories from four different creative teams.
Let’s take a look.

In the DC pantheon there is no shadow that looms larger than that of Superman. Since his debut in Action Comics #1, the publisher’s original superhero has become the pillar that the rest of the company was built around. That’s why cartoonist Sina Grace hadn’t considered writing or even pitching for the most famous hero in DC’s Trinity.
“I just didn’t ever think about Superman, because I never thought I could tell that story,” Grace tells us. That all changed, though, after he was called into pitch by then DC editor Diego Lopez. While Grace went in with a Black Canary and Green Arrow story ready to go, in which he was “coming at her with this passionate 45 minute speech, like, ‘Wild at Heart, wrong side of the train tracks, yada, yada,'” Lopez had other ideas. “What do you think about Superman?” she asked, and...

Last month, we had the great pleasure of exclusively revealing Francesco Francavilla's variant cover for Archie Comics' The Return of Chilling Adventures in Sorcery, and as the spooky season creeps ever closer, we're now excited to exclusively debut Vincenzo Federici's interior penciled pages from The Return of Chilling Adventures in Sorcery (featuring Madam Satan getting up to macabre mischief on the mortal plane now that she's escaped Hell), along with development art by Vincenzo Federici, Liana Kangas, and Corin Howell!
Here's what Vincenzo had to say about bringing Madam Satan to life:
"Working on Madam Satan adventures is an incredible visual experience. First of all, it's amazing to have the opportunity to draw such great characters from both Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, since my wife and I are fans of the TV shows. My approach is to be respectful of the character design by giving them my personal touch.

Back in October of 2013, artist Francesco Francavilla and writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa forever changed the landscape of Archie Comics when they unleashed zombies in Riverdale in their highly popular horror comic series Afterlife with Archie.
It's especially fitting, then, that Francavilla has created spine-chilling variant covers for two of Archie Comics' upcoming horror one-shots—Chilling Adventures of Salem and The Return of Chilling Adventures in Sorcery—and we're thrilled and chilled to exclusively reveal Francavilla's gorgeously haunting variant covers with Daily Dead readers!
Here's what Francavilla had to say about how he was able to tap into his love of cats to help bring new horror artwork to Archie Comics this fall:
I was very excited when Archie Comics asked me to do a cover for the new title Chilling Adventures Of Salem! You see, I'm cat people: I'm currently taking care of an indoor cat and at least 3-4 outdoor...

DC has a long and storied history with queer characters, but in the new DC Pride anthology ten queer creators take on LGBTQ+ heroes in a series of stories that center them in a way we’ve rarely seen. The impressive roster includes some of the publishers biggest names – in regards to both the people making the stories and the characters they focus on. To celebrate the release of the groundbreaking title, Den of Geek spoke with Danny Lore and Sina Grace, who are both taking on exciting stories that feature two very different heroes.
The Flash of Earth-11
Lore’s Flash story plays on one of the more fun traits of the hero: their inability to be on time. As a non-binary creator with Adhd, Lore says creating a story about the non-binary Flash of Earth-11, Jess Chambers being late was incredibly relatable.

You know the drill by now. Whenever there is a holiday or celebration of some sort, DC whip up a fresh helping of their 80 Page Giants. They usually consist of ten or so stories, by a mix of top name creators and some unknowns obviously given a short story assignment to bed them in gradually in readiness for greater things down the line. Story quality is usually as mixed as you would expect, some great stuff, some average, and some filler. Overall, though, you get good value for your money. So, February being Valentines, this time round we are in the mood for love….

Warning, this interview contains spoilers for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #50 and the final issue of Go Go Power Rangers.
All of the Power Rangers comics that have been published in the last few years were leading to issue #50 of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. All the plot lines and characters came together for a triumphant and climatic showdown that not only provided a lot of action but also closed off some character arcs while also setting some things up for the future.
We talked with writer Ryan Parrott about this gigantic issue and needles to say, this chat features Nothing but spoilers both for Mmpr and the last issue of Go Go Power Rangers. Our discussion includes adding conflict between the Rangers (which the show did little of), bringing back the Solar Rangers, Jason v. Tommy, how being an Omega Ranger is like going to college, and much more!

When you have read as many comics down the years as me, literally in the tens of thousands, you’ve pretty much seen it all. Quirky indie books? Check. Blockbuster multi-title crossovers? Check. Inter-company books? Check. Monthly books published on time? Che….er, well I’ve nearly seen it all. Point is, when you see something a little different it does tend to catch your eye. DC’s Crimes of Passion, echoing those old lurid EC Comics books, certainly caught my eye. Essentially, it’s DC’s attempt at a Valentine’s Day Special, and why not. Actually, it is ten attempts at telling a decent Valentine’s Day story, as there are ten short stories in total, all with different characters and creative teams. Will we get lucky this Valentine’s? Let’s take a look.

Sina Grace & Mike Norton tackle DC's funniest hero and the results are predictably excellent.
It's not a massive retcon, or a huge character being brought back to prominence, by my favorite low-key development in comics in 2020 so far is Sina Grace gettting more work at DC. He wrote one of my favorite lost period X-comics and probably the definitive Iceman story, and his work at Boom! is consistently entertaining. He has such a strong authorial voice that shines through in all his work - it's clear and distinct, and balances dry and absurd comedy along with character drama so well. So handing him Plastic Man for a Valentine's Day-themed anthology book, DC's Crimes of Passion, is absolutely perfect.
In another moment of serendipity (or just really good editing), he's paired with Mike Norton. Norton is the creator of Battlepug, so obviously he's got a handle on cartooning ridiculous physical comedy.

The Infected: King Shazam deals with the ramifications of a Billy Batson turned evil.
Sina Grace has horror in his blood. Or at least in his mental infrastructure. The comics writer, who burst into the big time with Self Obsessed, his refreshingly honest memoir comic, has spent most of the last five years writing fun, poppy, note-classic superhero books like Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers and Iceman, or winning critical acclaim with his ghost romance book with Siobhan Keenan, Ghosted in L.A. But he’s getting his first shot at DC jumping into the middle of Batman/Superman’s Infected storyline. The Shazam one shot The Infected: King Shazam, the new book goes way harder at straight up horror than anything Grace has ever done as a writer, at least.

Jenny Lewis will make a cameo appearance in the latest issue of Jughead’s Time Police, an Archie Comics release out on Wednesday, October 30th.
Jughead’s Time Police #5 features the musician appearing during the lead-up to a Battle of the Bands segment. As Jughead practices his drumming, Lewis walks up to the gang and says, “Nice song.” The Riverdale teens proceed to fawn over her, calling Lewis “the fashion idol of my youth,” “songstress of our collective feelings” and “all-around babe.”

Here's an exclusive first look at the upcoming fourth issue, in which Riverdale is quite literally ripped apart.
With Paper Girls having recently ended its run, the best time travel comic on the market right now is...Jughead's Time Police? Crazy though it may seem, the current Archie Comics mini-series is the perfect blend of science fiction and comedy that aims to do for hamburgers what Back to the Future did for manure. Or something like that.
Future historians will decide where this book winds up in the pantheon of great comics, but we can tell you here and now that this story is quite unlike anything Archie has ever attempted before..

This time around, Jughead finds himself battling with other versions of himself from throughout the history of Archie Comics, all part of the company's ongoing building of a multiverse.

The Batman Who Laughs has turned six DC superheroes into dark reflections of themselves...
Picking up where The Batman Who Laughs left off, Batman/Superman kicks off at the end of August promising to infect heroes from around the DC Universe with dark multiverse Joker venom. But the identities of the infected have been mostly hidden, until now.
We already knew that the first one to catch giggles would be Shazam, from a fantastically creepy preview. The Batman Who Laughs grabs Billy Batson and nicks him with an infected Batarang, then dresses him up like a Robin and sets him loose on the heroes.
He's going to be getting a one shot in November examining the impact of the Joker venom. Sina Grace, writer of the best pre-Hickman X-book, Iceman, is writing the one shot (titled The Infected: King Shazam), with art from The Immortal Hulk's Joe Bennett.

Here's an exclusive look at what comicdom's most notorious player is up to now!
With Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina both done their respective seasons, there's an Archie void that needs filling right now. Fortunately, the comics in which these now-iconic characters got their start are still being published...and are as surprising as ever.
Despite the fact that Archie Andrews made his debut nearly 80 years ago, the various creative teams who now write and illustrate stories featuring him and his ever-growing gang regularly include top notch talent. Everyone from Mark Waid to Sina Grace (whose forthcoming Jughead's Time Police reboot is among the summer's most anticipated comics) has contributed to Archie titles in recent years.
The publisher's flagship title, Archie, is currently being written by Nick Spencer and illustrated by Sandy Jarrell (Reggie & Me). In the current storyline, the typical Archie/Betty/Veronica love triangle...

Sina Grace loves Power Rangers and can't wait to play in the universe of the character focused Go Go Power Rangers comic.
Sina Grace may seem new to Power Rangers, having just been announced as co-writer for the Go Go Power Rangers comic alongside Ryan Parrott, but he’s been with the franchise since the start of Boom’s run. He contributed a variant cover for the very first issue and even wrote/drew a short story, but now he gets to put his own mark on the Power Rangerse universe.
At Wondercon we spoke with him about what he wants to bring to Go Go, diversity in the series, and his history with the franchise including both Power Rangers and Super Sentai!
Tell me about your experience with Power Rangers just growing up or your past experiences with it.
I feel like this is very obvious,...

The new writer of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers tells us what to expect from the comic book universe in the days to come!
Ryan Parrott is about to become the architect of the Power Rangers comic universe. After leading the comic series Go Go Power Rangers for over twenty issues, Parrott will take over the “main” title of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in June with issue 40. He won’t be completely stepping away from Go Go though, co-writing it with Sina Grace.
We had the chance at WonderCon to sit down with Parrot to discuss recent developments in Go Go, his research process, the sanctity of "Green with Evil," and even Ferbus from Masked Rider.
Yeah, we went there.
In the most recent issue of Go Go Power Rangers, you included King Lexian from the Masked Rider series. Talk a little about including that character.

Featuring an exclusive look at variant covers from the upcoming mini-series, here's your guide to Jughead's Time Police.
Back in the early 1990s, Archie Comics released an ambitious series of titles aimed at illustrating how the veteran indie publisher could tell different types of stories using their characters. These various books ranged from interesting failures to regrettable curiosites. Yet much like Marty McFly unleashing rock and roll at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance, one of these experiments was so far ahead of its, er, time that it would take a generation to pick up what Archie was throwing down.
That title was Jughead's Time Police.
Despite only running for a measly six issues, Jughead's Time Police foreshadowed the Archie creative renaissance that began a decade ago by telling a status quo-shattering story that pushed the parameters of these characters while maintaining what made them so lovable in the first place.

The GLAAD Media Awards nominations have recognized “Blockers,” “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Deadpool 2,” “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” and “Love, Simon” as the outstanding film in the wide release category.
GLAAD announced their 30th annual nominations at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday. The Media Awards recognize and honor media for “their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community and the issues that affect their lives.”
Not reflected was Oscars Best Picture nominee “Bohemian Rhapsody.” TheWrap reported on Thursday that GLAAD made the decision to remove “Bohemian Rhapsody” and the story of the queer icon Freddie Mercury from awards contention in the wake of new sexual misconduct accusations against the film’s former director, Bryan Singer.

Another year in the books, another batch of incredible comics for you to read! These are the best comics of 2018.
Comics, like all art, can be a mirror on society or a safe harbor from its worst tendencies, and thankfully again in 2018, we got some incredible books this year. I’ve been watching our pull lists since the calendar flipped in January, keeping an eye out for the best comics to share with you, and we’ve finally cut it down to just 10. But first, a few honorable mentions.
Yoshitoki Oima’s To Your Eternity was probably the best new manga I read this year, but I kept it off the list because as good as the newest volumes are, the first one is stellar and it was published too early. Transformers: Unicron is a great way to end a fascinating era of Transformers comics, one that...
