Doesn't really work
29 September 2017 | by See all my reviews

Just saw the pilot of Ghosted, and it did not fill me with confidence.

It's a standard buddy comedy about two different people partnered up to pursue justice. In this case, their job (gotten in an unlikely and rather mysterious way) is to investigate paranormal activity.

Ghosted has been billed as a comedy, so the first thing to note is it's not very funny. I might have smiled occasionally as I watched, but I certainly didn't laugh.

Since the episode isn't that funny, it needed to create some intrigue. But the meat of the X-Files-like story is dry and sinewy. The series would gloss over the technology in a way that sometimes made it unclear what was going on, and the sci-fi elements didn't make any particular sense. There's no real suspense and I wasn't drawn into the story.

There's a good cast being wasted here. I suppose this series could pull itself together, but I have no reason to check in for episode 2.

5/10 stars.
