*spoiler alert.
Director: David R. Ellis.
Writers: Will Hayes and Jesse Studenberg (screenplay).
Cast: Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan and Chris Carmack.
If given the choice of Discovery Channel’s Shark Week, a guide to these predators of the deep, or Shark Night in 3D, a third option is really required. An IMAX treatment can fare better at exploring the deep than a high budget exploitation of killer sharks. In what the home video release delivers is the lack of 3D. Where’s the splash?
According to multiple sources, this movie is shot in 3D. To not release a proper release is very suspicious. In amidst the fervor by industry to have a 3D television in the homes of entertainment enthusiasts by the end of last year, that penetration feels thinner than a pancake. The demand is only as good as those who want to own a 72” plasma high definition set over a liquid crystal display.

Shark Night 3D arrives almost a year after Piranha 3D reigned supreme on DVD/Blu-ray. Unfortunately, where Piranha 3D relished in its ridiculousness, Shark Night 3D tries to escape that by “elevating” itself to something more. Where it had the potential to be another gory-filled B-movie homage (the fact it was originally called Untitled Shark Thriller 3D was promise enough), it loses it almost instantaneously by failing to capitalise on its lucrative conceit.
The plot itself couldn’t be simpler: When seven college friends are invited by their friend Sara (Sara Paxton) to her parents’ idyllic lake house, they relish the chance for a weekend filled with sun, sea and sex. However, when the friends discover the water is shark-infested, their serene weekend soon turns into an all-out nightmare.

Stars: Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, Chris Carmack, Katharine McPhee, Chris Zylka, Joel David Moore, Donal Logue | Written by Will Hayes, Jesse Studenberg | Directed by David R. Ellis
The latest shlock-horror flick from director David R. Ellis (Snakes on a Plane, Final Destination 2), whose films never cease to disappoint me, is another slice of fun-filled fear frolics which sees Ellis do for sharks in freshwater as he did for snakes on planes. This time round a bunch of college students head out to the Louisiana Gulf and a friends lake-side cabin to enjoy a weekend of partying, only there’s a problem – the psycho redneck locals have let loose a bunch of man-eating sharks in the lake! Imagine if you will a slasher movie such as the classic Friday the 13th series with its lakeside woodland setting and strange locals, then replace its hockey mask wearing...

Can any of you recall 2010’s Piranha? I sure can.
There was a film that revelled in the fact that it was B-grade trash, unabashedly offering a filthy, sleazy and gory romp. And you know what? It was fun.
This is the main problem here with Shark Night: it takes itself way too seriously playing it straight-faced with minimal laughs, gore and zero over-the-top quirkiness when we all know this film is anything but.
It’s called Shark Night, for crying out loud - this title alone betrays the audience in a way, teasing it’s something akin to something gleefully wicked like Piranha.
The film’s director, David R. Ellis (Final Destination 2), has had a shot at a B-grade romp before with Snakes On A Plane, which also failed to live up to being a goofy, trashy exploitation film.

I didn't go into Shark Night 3D expecting another Jaws. I was hoping for something closer to Deep Blue Sea, but what ended up on screen was more akin to Jaws: The Revenge. This was evident during the opening credits, as a montage of real shark footage included a brief shot of an animatronic shark from Deep Blue Sea. And the shot was reused during the end credits. Not a good sign.
Of course, we have an opening attack before getting to our main characters, and it's a charmer. A girl is frolicking in the lake with her sleazy boyfriend, who removes her top against her expressed wishes, tosses it further off shore, then goes off to get a sandwich. Instead of following and kicking his ass, she swims out, retrieves her...

Hell, even the usual dump month of September looks pretty damn awesome! So without further ado, here's Tmp's Fall 2011 Movie Guide for September!

Chicago – “Shark Night 3D” is at the top of the food chain when it comes to the people-so-stupid-they-lack-basic-survival-skills category of horror thrillers, and has so many wrong elements it nearly swings back to be right.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
The biggest problem with Shark Night is that it’s deadly dull in spots, and strangely judicious in how they show the actual sharks. The 3D per usual is useless, unless you like chunks of fish goo floating around your eyes. Believe it or not, the acting is quite sincere (and over the top), and some of the dialogue is of the so-bad-it’s-good variety, nominating it for future cult status. The production would have been improved by excising the dull parts, but then again if they were thrown out the film would have been about 30 minutes.

Ellis Written by: Will Hayes and Jesse Studenberg Starring: Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, Joel David Moore, Katharine McPhee, Alyssa Diaz, Chris Zylka, Donal Logue, Sinqua Walls, Joshua Leonard and Chris Carmack I’m such a sucker for a creature feature. Alligators, snakes, bears, piranhas and wild boars, I watch them all. But I have a soft spot for sharks. I’ll watch anything with a shark in it. Deep Blue Sea is a particular treat for me when I catch it on cable. I was really hoping Shark Night 3D would be in the vein of last summer’s insanely fun Piranha 3D, but it was not to be. Even I have a threshold for dopey stories, and this one tried my patience. It’s not particularly fun, and there isn’t enough gore to satisfy gore hounds (no doubt due to the...

Title: Shark Night 3D Directed By: David R. Ellis Starring: Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, Chris Carmack, Katharine McPhee, Chris Zylka, Alyssa Diaz, Joel David Moore, Sinqua Wells, Donal Logue, Joshua Leonard While most movies require endearing characters to get you from beginning to end and make you feel invested in what’s happening on the screen, that’s not necessary here. Fun, good scares and some carnage are all that’s needed in this recipe and nothing more. However, writers Will Hayes and Jesse Studenberg attempt to take their story one step further by giving it some heart. Heart in a movie called Shark Night 3D? Emotion in the midst of a hyper...

The weather’s starting to get a little bit cooler, school is back in session for everyone of school age, and the last official day of summer is probably happening now while you’re reading this. It’s Labor Day weekend here in the States, and that means we get one last good day of summer fun, frolic, grilling out, and spending time with our families and friends before winter comes. For a group of college friends, this Labor Day might be their last.
Sara (Sara Paxton) has graciously invited her college friends Nick (Dustin Milligan), Beth (Katharine McPhee), Blake (Chris Zylka), Maya (Alyssa Diaz), Gordon (Joel David Moore), and Malik (Sinqua Walls) back to her family’s home in the middle of a lake in Louisiana bayou country.

Shark Night 3D looks for some box office bite over Apollo 18 on Labor Day Weekend. The Help may very well top the charts again. Two wide releases contend to try topple DreamWorks' The Help, which could very well end up holding top spot for a third weekend in a row. Relativity Media's Shark Night 3D starring Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, Chris Carmack, Katharine McPhee and Joel David Moore, opens in over 3,500 theaters at 2,806 locations nationwide. The thriller helmed by David R. Ellis (Snakes on a Plane, Cellular, The Final Destination), from the writing by Will Hayes and Jesse Studenberg. Dimension Films' docu-horror Apollo 18 teasing with the found-footage style of The Blair Witch Project, finds 3,328 theaters under the helm of Spanish helmer Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego. The film's uncredited cast consists of two small names in Warren Christie and Lloyd Owen.

It's a full colour version featuring the bright whites of said shark and delectable flesh of the soon-to-be unfortunate victim. Shark Night 3D has just been given a PG-13 rating! I am scratching my head at this news, and am wondering if scenes were accidentally cut out to appease the MPAA. This rating is great news for Relativity Media because it allows for a wider audience to see the film. Basically, it means that teens will be annoying the hell out of me when I am trying to watch the movie. Pardon the rash generalization, but I have been to too many films rated PG-13 films where that's been the case.

Here is the first trailer for David R. Ellis's Shark Night 3D. The trailer is everything you would expect from the same director who brought us Snakes on a Plane. It mixes equal parts of blood, boobs and bad acting in this campfest. Despite that, it looks like it could be a little fun.

Terror Runs Deep. That's the tagline for this monstrosity of a shark poster for the upcoming shark thriller Shark Night 3D as debuted yesterday on IGN. So, does anyone know what this is actually about, what the plot is supposed to be? Or does anyone care? Honestly, I'm just excited to see some shark mayhem of apparently epic proportions, which is what this is promising! Directed by David R. Ellis (Cellular, Snakes on a Plane, The Final Destination), Shark Night 3D stars Sara Paxton, Chris Carmack, Joel Moore and Chris Zylka. We're still waiting for the trailer, but awesome/scary promo material like this should keep us curious. I don't care what the plot is, but it's cool to see increasingly crazy artwork like this in addition to that other first photo. If the cheesy antics of Snakes on a Plane wasn't enough of an over-the-top story of man vs. nature, then you've probably been giddy with anticipation for director David R. Ellis' return to the pseudo creature feature with Shark Night 3D. The cheesy story features mostly a cast of relatively unknown actors (with the exception of Avatar star Joel David Moore) in the cheesy story of seven people who spend a weekend at a lake house in Louisiana's Gulf area where their vacation quickly becomes a nightmare of hellish shark attacks. Now we have our first look at the underwater horror flick, and yes, there's a hungry shark involved. The photo was first debuted on Bloody-Disgusting, but we've updated it with a high res (click above for ultra high res). The screenplay for this was written by Jesse Studenberg and Will Hayes and is supposedly a "scary ...
