Nominations for the 2025 Drama League Awards were announced Tuesday by current Broadway stars Sarah Hyland (The Great Gatsby) and Orville Peck (Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club). Winners will be announced May 19 at a ceremony at the Ziegfeld Ballroom.
The Drama League Awards honor both Broadway and off-Broadway productions and stand out for their catch-all acting category, the Distinguished Performance Award. An actor can only win it once in their career. After they have won, they can never be nominated again. This year, 51 performers are nominated. There is no crossover between members who vote on the Drama League Awards and the Tonys, but the nominations can nevertheless be revealing as to which performances and productions break through, or not, with this group’s expanded categories.
One of the most shocking results of the nominations is the complete omission of The Hills of California. The Jez Butterworth play is one of...

“Romeo and Juliet has featured in my life at these pivotal moments in a really funny way,” Gabby Beans smiles as she considers all the times she has crossed paths with one of Shakespeare's most famous tragedies.
The actress first read the play as a freshman in high school in Germany and credits her English teacher, Emily Richardson, for elucidating “the imagery and all the levels of resonance that Shakespeare’s writing can hold and evokes.” Months later, her family took a trip to Italy and she saw the Juliet sculpture in Verona. Years later, she played the role of Lady Capulet while studying at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Most recently, she wrapped a smash production of Romeo + Juliet on Broadway, which played a limited run at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Beans recently joined Gold Derby to discuss the revival.

To judge from the electric response of the youthful audience at the Sam Gold-helmed production of Romeo + Juliet, the casting of Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor as William Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers will be enough to persuade their fans that this story is dope Af. It’s not hard to imagine teens, having just watched Connor’s Romeo dangle in the air from Juliet’s suspended bed before doing a pull-up to hoist himself up to kiss her, begging their drama teachers to stage a Shakespeare tragedy this spring instead of, say, Clue.
In Gold’s previous Shakespeare outings on Broadway—2019’s Glenda Jackson-headlined King Lear and 2022’s Macbeth, starring Daniel Craig and Ruth Negga—you really had to know the plays well to have any idea of what was going on. Julia Fox brings a subversive flair to the fashion competition show with her new series, Omg Fashun. Known for her daring style and unique artistic perspective, Fox aims to disrupt the traditional runway format.
As host and executive producer, Fox’s influence is evident throughout. Each episode features contestants embracing the unconventional through wild material choices and conceptual designs. Fox also presses the designers to consider sustainability, challenging notions of what high fashion can be.
Gone are Runway’s linear challenges and prim critiques. In their place are disruptors, distraction-filled time limits, and wild location shoots. Judges like Law Roach deliver blunt quips that entertain as much as evaluate. Even the schedule subverts expectations, with back-to-back half hours maximizing the strangeness.
It’s a vibrant, rapidly-paced world where avant-garde creations emerge from the unlikeliest sources. Distilling fashion into a surreal, liberating formula, Fox makes her competitors the vehicles of her bold vision.

Cole Sprouse works with first-time directors in response to "risk averse" Hollywood. The 31-year-old actor has starred in the films 'Lisa Frankenstein' and 'I Wish You All The Best' from directorial debutants Zelda Williams and Tommy Dorfman respectively and thinks that the movie industry is a better place when "fresh perspective" is introduced. In an interview with Collider, Cole said: "I think the industry's become really risk averse. When Ben DeBacker (Corey Fogelmanis), the nonbinary protagonist of Tommy Dorfman’s charming directorial debut I Wish You All the Best, decides to come out to their parents, the results are disastrous.
The conversation is rendered in flashes, adding a suspenseful layer to the melancholic moment. We see Ben reviewing notes on an index card; we watch them shuffle nervously to the kitchen. Before we know it, Ben is calling his estranged sister Hannah (Alexandra Daddario) for help. The North Carolina teen is crouched in a corner of a gas station grocery store with no shoes and holes in their socks. It’s only when Hannah shows up — worried and out of breath — that the gravity of the situation sets in.

Tommy Dorfman is best known for her role as Ryan Shaver in 13 Reasons Why, but she has taken on many other roles since that show ended. While she mostly played men in the past, Tommy disclosed publicly that she is a trans woman in July 2021. Prior to this, she privately lived as a woman for a year (via Time).
Since sharing her gender, Tommy Dorfman's career has shifted trajectories. She no longer wishes to play men in film or TV shows. In 2022, she received her first woman role, in a Lena Dunham film. Meghan Grimm might be Hollywood’s best matchmaker.
In addition to being Jennifer Lawrence’s executive personal assistant, Grimm is the founder and CEO of Clyde Staffing, a first-of-its-kind staffing agency led by a seasoned personal assistant that is dedicated to vetting and matching prospective assistants with top talent. But unlike other agencies, where the extent of their involvement may end after the placement, Grimm prides herself on providing her network of assistants with continued support — whether that’s through hands-on training or in the form of a group Slack, where assistants in the network can reach out to one another for tips on things like nabbing reservations at Nobu, accompanying A-listers on high-profile press tours and finding contacts for the best florists in New York.
Since quietly launching in 2020, Clyde’s clients have included Anne Hathaway, Brian Tyree Henry, Uma Thurman, Dakota Johnson, Benicio del Toro, Finneas O’Connell, Mandy Moore and Tommy Dorfman,...
