Director Adam Wingard is said to be getting back to his roots with the upcoming action-thriller Onslaught, and THR reports this week that Adria Arjona (Hit Man) is in talks to star.
The actress is in “final negotiations” to both star in the film and executive produce.
A24 has picked up the package, with Wingard directing and frequent creative partner Simon Barrett writing. The duo made a name for themselves with The Guest and You’re Next.
THR details, “Many details for Onslaught are being kept in an underground experimental facility, but sources describe it as a gonzo action horror thriller. The scope is said to more in line with Wingard’s earlier movies, which were all original creations, before he went off and made the big-budget spectacle hits Godzilla vs Kong and Godzilla x Kong.”

Adria Arjona - whose star is now on the rise after her impressive turn in Netflix’s Hit Man - is in final talks to star in and executive produce Adam Wingard's latest feature, which we recently learned is titled Onslaught.
The A24 project is described as an action thriller with horror elements, and will see Wingard re-team with his frequent collaborator Simon Barrett, who have previously worked together on You’re Next and The Guest. They will also co-write the movie, and cameras are scheduled to roll in New Mexico later this year.
Though specific plot details are still under wraps, the film is said to be "a gonzo action horror thriller," with Arjona set to play "a mother who falls back on a particular set of skills in order to protect her loved ones after she runs afoul of a threat that has escaped a secret military base.

Adria Arjona, who appeared opposite Glen Powell in Netflix’s Hit Man, is in final negotiations to star in and executive produce Onslaught, the latest feature project from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire filmmaker Adam Wingard.
A24 is behind the action thriller after winning an auction in the spring. It reteams Wingard with his frequent collaborator Simon Barrett. The two made the cult hits You’re Next and The Guest.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire premiered on March 29, 2024, as the most recent installment in the MonsterVerse franchise. The movie received mixed reviews from critics and is one of the installments with the lowest score, but fans are amazed, as the movie became a box office hit! The movie was directed by Adam Wingard, whom we have recently talked about as the potential director of a live-action ThunderCats movie, which was rumored to be the director’s next project, following Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. But, as the most recent reports confirm, Wingard’s next project won’t be the planned ThunderCats movie, but it won’t be a sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire either.
Namely, as it has been confirmed, Adam Wingard has accepted to direct an action movie, Onslaught, for A24, as the indie production company is moving up in the movie world, becoming...

Fresh off the success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and with Face/Off 2 in development, director Adam Wingard and screenwriter Simon Barrett have just set up another project together – but this isn’t another entry in an established, blockbuster-level property. Instead, Wingard and Barrett are going back to their roots with this one. Deadline reports that their new project, which is called Onslaught, is “in the vein of Wingard and Barrett’s cult classics like The Guest and You’re Next.“
As they note, Wingard and Barrett made the horror thrillers You’re Next (2011) and The Guest (2014) together before they ventured into franchise territory with the 2016 Blair Witch movie. They also made the 2010 horror film A Horrible Way to Die together, and while that movie does have its own cult following, the cult isn’t as large as the ones that follow You’re Next and The Guest.

It looks like another Godzilla x Kong movie will have to wait.
Adam Wingard, who directed the last two of the hit Legendary MonsterVerse movies, has lined up a new feature project that will go before any new creature feature.
A24, the one-time scrappy indie that is rapidly scaling up, came out on top of an auction to pick up Onslaught, an action thriller that reteams Wingard with his frequent collaborator Simon Barrett. The two made the cult hits You’re Next and The Guest.
Wingard and Barrett are writing the project with Wingard on board to direct. It is said to have a scope more in line with his early movies, which were all original creations. Details for Onslaught are being kept behind the barricades, but sources describe it as a gonzo action horror thriller that will shoot this fall.

Legendary Pictures has found a helmer for the tragic wildfire story Esperanza in Jim Mickle, the acclaimed American director who’s made a name for himself with horror indies Stake Land and We Are What We Are and last year’s Southern-fried pulp thriller Cold In July.
Esperanza is adapted from The Esperanza Fire, John Maclean’s book about a wildland fire started by an arsonist that killed the tightly knit forest service engine crew that bravely battled the blaze. Set against the backdrop of one of the most fire-prone areas in the world, the film chronicles the Spartan culture of these firefighters battling the ‘perfect storm’ of wildfires.
Mickle will direct from a script by Sean O’Keefe (The Escapist, Riders on the Storm, The Paper Man) with Alex Hedlund overseeing for Legendary. He’s the latest indie helmer to be tapped for bigger budget studio fare, as Gareth Edwards...

Rob Zombie is taking a break from horror on his next project. Deadline reports that the Halloween director is set to write, direct, and produce Broad Street Bullies, "a film about the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team that evolved from a cellar-dwelling expansion team into a team that racked up victories and penalty minutes in equal measure during the 1970s." Rob Zombie will write, direct and produce the hockey drama "Broad Street Bullies" reports Deadline.
The film deals with the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team who evolved from a cellar-dwelling expansion team into one that racked up victories and penalty minutes in equal measure during the 1970s.
The physical play of the team was legendary, enough that when the Soviet Union’s supposedly invincible Red Army team played them, the Soviet team was roughed up so badly they left the ice in the first period (though they were eventually forced to finish the game).
Zombie has scored the rights to the team’s story and has the full support of the organization. He will produce with Andy Gould, Les Borsai and Jeremy Platt.

Written by Chad and Carey Hayes, the script centers around a married couple (Wilson and Farmiga) investigating spirits in a Rhode Island farmhouse, in what turns out to be the most terrifying case of their demonology careers. The plot is inspired by the true-life tale of the Perron family in the 1970s, as chronicled by daughter Andrea Perron in her memoir House of Darkness House of Light: The True Story. Wilson currently stars on the big screen in Jason Reitman's Young Adult, and on the small screen in CBS' A Gifted Man. He'll next appear in Ridley Scott's Prometheus, due out this summer. The 2011 Black List, the Top Unproduced Screenplays of the year has been released. The best unproduced screenplays from The Black List 2011 is compiled by votes from over 300 “execs, agency guys, and high-level assistants. Titled The Black List, the compendium highlights both established screenwriters and up-and-comers, and has served as a launching pad in the past for projects like Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and (500) Days of Summer. Last year’s list included Margin Call, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman.”
Regarding the validity of The Black List, things to keep in mind:
some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though…none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011. Also worth pointing out is that, as in previous years, there have been rumors that some of the participants have been accused of using the Black List to promote their own clients or friends.

For the seventh annual year a list of the top unproduced screenplays written in the past 12 calendar months has been made. The Black List is the most recognized and celebritized compilation for screenwriters and unknown movie ideas to be heard. While some prior Black List scripts have gone on to be made (like Juno or 500 Days of Summer), most scripts do not. However, what being on The Black List can do is to give a big push of credibility to a screenwriter hoping to carve out a career in Hollywood.
The Black List recepients are chosen by a committee of 300 individuals working in Hollywood: agents, writers, producers, managers and the like. They read the screenplays that float around the showbiz ecosystem; some are bought and are already in development while others are still seeing the interest of talent of financial backers.

The 2011 Black List has arrived online and there are a bunch of the hottest scripts in Hollywood. Some have already been picked up by studios, while most are still unproduced. Here is the press release: The Black List was compiled from the suggestions of over 300 film executives, each of whom contributed the names of up to ten of their favorite scripts that were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2011 and will not have begun principal photography during this calendar year.
This year, scripts had to receive at least six mentions to be included on the The Black List.
All reasonable effort has been made to confirm the information contained herein. The Black List apologizes for all misspellings, misattributions, incorrect representation identification, and questionable 2011 affiliations.
It has been said many times, but it's worth repeating:
The Black List is not a "best of" list. It is, at best, a "most liked" list.

[1] Each December since 2004, studio executive Franklin Leonard has compiled the best unproduced screenplays of the year, as voted by hundreds of execs, agency guys, and high-level assistants. Titled The Black List, the compendium highlights both established screenwriters and up-and-comers, and has served as a launching pad in the past for projects like Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and (500) Days of Summer. Since the creation of The Black List in 2006, there's been a push for Hollywood insiders to collect and publish their own compiled lists of unproduced screenplays that they feel deserve more attention. The Black List is the best known of these, released every December, but today another list of recommended unproduced screenplays was released: The Blood List, a collection of horror, sci-fi and fantasy scripts that are deemed worthy by those toiling in the showbiz industry.
