The news broke yesterday that Andy Serkis will direct and star in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, a new movie which aims to bring the iconic franchise back to theaters.
Peter Jackson is producing the project, but if the premise sounds familiar, it's probably because a 2009 fan-made short film - also titled The Hunt for Gollum - has been racking up millions of views on YouTube for the past decade-and-a-half. Until earlier today, that is.
Directed by Chris Bouchard, the 39-minute film is mighty ambitious and received plenty of praise when it was released. Set during the opening act of The Fellowship of the Ring, the short elaborates on Aragorn's hunt for Gollum and is presumably the same story Warner Bros.' upcoming movie will tell.

While Amazon continues Tolkien’s Middle-Earth adventures with The Rings of Power series, Warner Bros. would run with their own rights to the IP, which would be parallel to the show — not intended to intersect. It was recently announced that Warners is bringing back Peter Jackson, who made his bigger-budget blockbuster career on the Lord of the Rings movies back in the early 2000s. Jackson will produce a film that Andy Serkis will direct, which is a Gollum spin-off, tentatively titled The Hunt for Gollum. A statement from the studio would comment, “We are honored they have agreed be our partners on these two new films. With Andy coming aboard to direct Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum(*Wt), we continue an important commitment to excellence that is a true hallmark of how we all want to venture ahead and further contribute to the Lord of the Rings cinematic history.

Most animated shows have a general idea of what their characters are going to be when they start casting, but in the case of the Fox family sitcom "Bob's Burgers," they actually worked in reverse. The series went backwards by starting with a cast in mind and then created the Belcher family inspired by the cast and their specific talents. It's a pretty unique way to create a television show, but it worked great because the voice actors each bring so much to the table that the show actually uses a mixture of written script and improv to bring the Belchers to life, something very few animated shows would ever even attempt.
H. Jon Benjamin is perfect as the family's fumbling but loving patriarch, Bob, while John Roberts somehow manages to change his voice to the perfect pitch for Bob's wine-chugging, song-singing wife Linda. It's not super unusual for voice...

The long-running Fox animated comedy series "Bob's Burgers" is a little different than its channel mates "Family Guy" and "The Simpsons." Sure, all of these shows are animated comedies about a nuclear family consisting of a mom, dad, and their three children, but "Bob's Burgers" is as full of warm, fuzzy feelings as it is laughs. The writers on the series really know when to take a step back from the jokes and let the drama unfold, giving the characters quite a bit more depth than the average cartoon comedy. The misadventures of the Belcher family, who operate a burger joint in the fictional city of Seymour's Bay, are fiercely funny, but they're also full of a tremendous amount of heart. It's what sets "Bob's Burgers" apart, but according to series creator Loren Bouchard, at least one Fox executive just didn't seem to understand that.

When the whole gang gets together to solve a problem, they're unstoppable.
That was the experience on When Calls the Heart Season 10 Episode 10 when what seemed like an insurmountable problem arose in our beloved Hope Valley.
When you can't trust your leaders, who can you trust? Well, you can trust Lucas, Nathan, Lee, Elizabeth, and Rosemary. And Bill. We don't want to forget Bill.
The problem was quite severe, with Montague stealing water for the city folk.

It's a common theme in entertainment for the little guy to suffer at the hands of the big guy, often for expansion rights or just to make money. In this case, it was a bit of both.

Maple Syrup Massacre is an editorial series where Joe Lipsett dissects the themes, conventions and contributions of new and classic Canadian horror films. Spoilers follow…
There’s a moment, very late in Tom at the Farm, when the film’s antagonist Francis Longchamp (Pierre-Yves Cardinal) wears a denim jacket with USA emblazoned on the back. The film’s protagonist – Tom – has been held hostage by Francis for several weeks by this point while the pair role play domestic roles in a psychosexual power game. Francis, it should be noted, is also the older brother of Tom’s recently deceased lover and Tom submits to the ruse, in part, because Francis smells and resembles his ex.
At the end of the film, however, Tom finally flees into the Québec woods, steals Francis’ car, and escapes back to the safety of Montreal, the largest city in the province and the third biggest in Canada.

If I were going to choose one word that describes When Calls the Heart Season 10 Episode 7, it would be subtlety.
Sometimes, you need to catch someone in the act of doing something you are guilty of doing yourself to realize it.
The funny thing is that I'm not sure whether the lesson was received or lost by everyone this time around.
First, the King of Surprises had another in store for Hope Valley when Lucas bought the town a radio.
It's hard to imagine a life so unconnected that it wouldn't even include radio since I'd guess most people living today grew up with that, at the very least.
But it was very surprising that our dear Mr. Bouchard went to all that trouble to buy the radio without a better understanding its mechanics and what makes it work.
Hope Valley certainly has nothing nearby, and you'd think a reasonable...

Hand-drawn, 2D cel animation is hard. It's labor-intensive and time-consuming and the leading cause of death for pencils. Who knows, that last bit might even be true. Despite its difficulty, however, there are plenty of artists who still gravitate toward the medium. 3D CGI animation might be readily available in 2023 but for some, it just doesn't capture that same magic.
Loren Bouchard, the creative mind behind "Bob's Burgers," an ongoing 2D animated series, told Looper during an exclusive interview that the medium is, "by definition, somewhat more minimal." Bouchard explained, "It doesn't have to be simple, but it's reducing the world to a line drawing with some color. It's a fascinating process." He noted that CGI incorporates a true perspective of reality, and while he respects and enjoys CG animated films, he hopes that "the art and craft of 2D animation, especially at that higher level, that theatrical level," continues on.

It's hard to imagine the current landscape of television without "Bob's Burgers." Just like the animated classics "The Simpsons," "Family Guy," and "King of the Hill" before them, the show created by Loren Bouchard has become a staple of the Fox network's weekly lineup since 2011. The Emmy-winning series starring H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, Dan Mintz, Eugene Mirman, and Kristen Schaal as the offbeat yet lovable Belcher family has also extended its reach even further through reruns via syndication and streaming on Hulu.
However, the Belchers' future wasn't always as stable as their current reputation would lead you to believe. Long before Bouchard's team created over 200 episodes filled with creative burgers and catchy songs, the people working on the show about this eccentric family living in a coastal town were worried that it wouldn't stay on the airwaves very long after the first season. Even after the original premise involving cannibalism was scrapped,...

2022 saw the return of theatrical cinema. From "Everything Everywhere All at Once" and "Avatar: The Way of Water" to "The Batman" and "The Fabelmans," the message Hollywood wanted to send was loud and clear: movies are back and they're really, really good. Among these many wonderful entries into the universal film catalogue was "The Bob's Burgers Movie," which cashed in on every ounce of the TV series' charm to deliver one of the many phenomenal animated stories that 2022 had to offer.
Created by Loren Bouchard and co-written by Bouchard and Nora Smith, "The Bob's Burgers Movie" saw almost the entire main voice cast of the TV series return for the silver screen, including H. Jon Benjamin, who voices Bob Belcher, the titular restaurateur and exhausted patriarch of the Belcher family. For better or for worse, there's a lot of turnover in the world of television. While it can happen onscreen occasionally, as we recently saw with Henry Cavill in "The Witcher," this especially applies behind the scenes. Almost every day there's news about shows adding new writers or swapping showrunners. For example, after a tumultuous first season on Netflix under the guidance of Scott Buck, Marvel's "Iron Fist" rebounded with a better (but overall still not great) second season helmed by Raven Metzner before getting canceled. Speaking of shows based on beloved comic book characters, the adaptation of Robert Kirkman's "The Walking Dead" on AMC had four different showrunners over the course of their eleven-season run. Luckily for them, only one of those instances resulted in a lawsuit (which was eventually settled outside of court).
But if the major creative forces of a writers' room get to stay together...

Adult animation has a strong history in television, with "The Simpsons" currently holding the title as the longest-running scripted American primetime television series at 34 seasons. The success of the show proved to audiences and studios alike that there was an untapped market for animation meant for older audiences, allowing shows like "Family Guy," "South Park," "King of the Hill," "Rick and Morty," and countless others to thrive. Some of these shows are far more adult than others, but with such an expansive medium, there's something for everyone's taste.
In some instances, adult animation can be just plain silly. That's where a show like the hugely-popular "Bob's Burgers" comes in, an animated series from the mind of Lorene Bouchard which follows a family that should probably not be in charge of a restaurant ... in charge of running a restaurant. They're the kind of family where getting glued to a toilet seat is a normal Tuesday,...

When it comes to narrative continuity, animated television is in a realm of all its own. Time moves differently in animated sitcoms — if it does move at all — but once a show like "Bob's Burgers" or "The Simpsons" starts racking up seasons in the double digits, the concept of time is pretty much a non-entity. Still, that doesn't stop fans from wondering how things work. Are the characters of "Bob's Burgers" trapped in a time loop? Are they immortal? And what about its recently released film? Is "The Bob's Burgers Movie" a prequel? Is it meant to fit into the series continuity at all? Is it even canon?!
The answer, according to series creator Loren Bouchard, is probably a bit more complicated than anyone might have thought — but, just like the series, it's still fun to think about.

Chennai, Sep 14 (Ians) India’s Karman Kaur Thandi was knocked out of the women’s singles event of the Chennai Open 2022 Wta 250 tennis tournament after losing to Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard in pre-quarters at the Sdat Stadium, here on Wednesday.
The Indian tennis player, who beat eighth seed Chloe Paquet in the first round, lost 2-6, 6-7 to Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard, the Wimbledon 2014 finalist.
Karman began well, with her powerful groundstrokes keeping Bouchard on her toes. The Indian, however, was unable to find the winners and was broken in the very first game. Bouchard quickly moved through the gears, aided by some unforced errors from Thandi, and took the opening set despite being broken once.
The 24-year-old Indian competed much better in the second set, matching the Canadian shot-for-shot. She managed a crucial breakthrough in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead and then consolidated it to 5-2 next game.

"The Simpsons Movie" may have made the joke about paying to see something you get on television for free, but there's a certain thrill that comes with seeing one of your favorite shows make the transfer to the big screen. I may have hopped aboard almost a decade into its run, but I adore "Bob's Burgers" and all of the delightfully weird characters of Seymour's Bay. I think it's safe to say that the Belchers have earned their place among the great sitcom families, especially since Bob and Lina actually nurture their children's idiosyncrasies.
Seymour's Bay is structured like a summer town so it makes sense to turn the animated sitcom into a summer blockbuster to compliment the series' sunny aesthetic. I really enjoyed "The Bob's Burgers Movie," for the most part, as it stands by its characters while exploring beyond familiar environments and all of the secrets within. At its center,...

Warning: Spoilers ahead for season 3 of "Evil."
In its third season, "Evil" continued to be TV's best horror show, and one of the best overall TV shows, period. Despite a relatively slow start, the season quickly picked up steam and delivered a long streak of the best episodes the show has ever done.
After season 2 covered "The Pop-Up Book of Terrifying Things," this third season went even darker with "The Pop-Up Book of Contemporary Demons" serving as the structure for the seasons' tales of demonic horror. Throughout the season, we saw increasingly more horrible things befall our protagonists: Ben (Aasif Mandvi) struggled with his world of logic being slowly crushed by things he couldn't explain, Kristen (Katja Herbers) learned that her daughter was being groomed by evil people, and David (Mike Colter) battled with temptation and a mosquito demon.
This all culminated in a terrifying and satisfying finale that brought plenty of revelations,...

Choosing which episode of “Bob’s Burgers” will be submitted for the Emmys each year is a tough task for creator and executive producer Loren Bouchard. This year the show has submitted “Some Like it Bot Part 1: Eighth Grade Runner.” “We really took a bigger chance. Not every episode will be as big and cinematic as this one, but we wanted to come off of the ‘Bob’s’ movie and bring cinematic storytelling to the series but in a way that also was organic,” he tells Gold Derby during our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video interview above). The episode sees Tina using her “erotic friend fiction” to escape from reality in a “Blade Runner” setting after Tammy and Jocelyn make fun of her new shirt. “The production team killed themselves to make the shots gorgeous. So we submitted it to celebrate the work that everyone did on it.”

Even after 12 seasons of the Emmy-nominated series, Bob’s Burgers and creator Loren Bouchard show no sign of slowing down. In May of this year, Bouchard and his team released their feature length film The Bob’s Burgers Movie, which they have been working on simultaneously along with the series. Bouchard says the movie inspired them to “take bigger swings” in season 12, resulting in a two part finale, with the first part “Some Like It Bot Part 1: Eighth Grade Runner” being submitted for Emmy consideration. The series is nominated for the Outstanding Animated Program Emmy this year, totaling 13 nomination and two wins since the series premiered in 2011.
Deadline: Why was “Some Like It Bot Part 1: Eighth Grade Runner” chosen for Emmy consideration?
Loren Bouchard: It had a lot of passion in it. All of our episodes have all of our passion in them, but this one was a real passionate project.

Season 3 of Apple TV+’s animated comedy Central Park will premiere Sept. 9. It will feature original cast member Kristen Bell who is rejoining the series as a new character, Abby, Paige’s (Katherine Hahn) little sister. (first-look image above)
Bell voiced Paige (Hahn) and Owen’s (Leslie Odom Jr.) mixed-raced daughter Molly in Central Park’s first season. She exited the series in 2020 when she announced on Instagram that she was relinquishing the role “to someone who can give a much more accurate portrayal [of the mixed race and Black American experience]”. At the time, Apple said that Bell would return in Season 3 as a new character since Season 2 already had been written and recorded. Molly Emmy Raver-Lampman was subsequently cast as Molly.
From creator, writer and executive producer Loren Bouchard, Josh Gad and Nora Smith, the 13-episode third season of Central Park will premiere globally on Apple TV+ with three episodes, followed by one episode weekly every Friday thereafter through Nov.

This Evil review contains spoilers.
Evil Season 3 Episode 6
Evil proves you don’t have to be likable to get likes. “The Demon of Algorithms” opens with one of the most promising examples of demonic possession the series has offered so far, but it’s just clickbait to something more sinister. The monster of the week is so human it can trick artificial intelligence.
The Catholic Church’s metro area paranormal team – Father David Acosta (Mike Colter), Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) – almost come to the same conclusions in the two cases they encounter. Their initial findings lead to something diabolical enough to ready a call for clerical help. Their instincts are as wrong as they are correct in both cases, which is the underlying reason “The Demon of Algorithms” is one of the most satisfying installments of the season.

The scariest part of this week’s Evil isn’t the wannabe possessed girl chewing glass. Or the seriously messed-up mom traumatizing her kids in exchange for online likes. It’s actually the relatability of how quickly, easily and all-encompassingly Ben, David and Kristen get sucked into a Tiktok-like app they’ve downloaded for a case. I feel seen… and ashamed.
Meanwhile, the Bouchard girls accomplish something their mother could not, and we get a grim update on what Andy’s been up to since he’s been gone. Read on for the highlights of “The Demon of Algorithms.”

David, Kristen and Ben hit the road — and the diocese hopes Sister Andrea will do the same — in this week’s Evil.
First up: The wife of a trucker who thinks he’s possessed after driving an allegedly haunted highway enlists the assessors’ services, which of course requires our Holy Trinity to drive the road in question. In his defense: It’s a stretch of I-95, which as a lifelong East Coaster I feel secure in saying definitely is accursed.

This week’s Evil is a literal jaw-dropper.
About halfway through the episode, which is titled “The Demon of Sex,” the titular figure loses the lower part of his face when Sister Andrea strikes a stunning spiritual blow. It’s gross — but nowhere near as disgusting as the backhanded move Leland pulls against the small-but-mighty nun near the end of the hour.

The Belchers are ready to introduce the world of streaming to The Bob's Burgers Movie.
After several delays, the highly-anticipated movie launched in theaters in May.
As cinema-to-streaming windows continue to shrink, the movie will be available to stream on both Hulu and HBO Max in the U.S. beginning July 12.
“The story begins when a ruptured water main creates an enormous sinkhole right in front of Bob’s Burgers, blocking the entrance indefinitely and ruining the Belchers’ plans for a successful summer,” reads the logline.
“While Bob and Linda struggle to keep the business afloat, the kids try to solve a mystery that could save their family’s restaurant."
"As the dangers mount, these underdogs help each other find hope and fight to get back behind the counter, where they belong.”
Series creator Loren Bouchard directed The Bob’s Burgers Movie with Bernard Derriman, from his and Nora Smith’s script.

Evil‘s David Acosta has been a priest for all of, what, five minutes? And he’s already bored of the monotony of parish life: the ho-hum confessions, the poorly attended 6 am Masses, the other priests slurping soup at dinner. How lucky for him, then, when The Entity — the super-secret Vatican group that offers “information and assistance” when needed — approaches him to join their covert ranks.
But does he sign up? And what’s this about someone named Visiting Jack? Read on for the highlights of “The Demon of Memes.”

One of the consistent strengths of “Evil” has been its constant acknowledgment that faith exists in an untold number of forms. Whether taken in relation to a codified religion, a belief in the scientific principles, an outright rejection of both, or none of the above, this is a show with clergy collars and therapist couches that isn’t only confined to one or the other.
Enter Season 3, where the show ventures further into the idea that faith also applies to who becomes worthy of trust and allegiance. Even with a few extra words that don’t have to be slipped by Standards and Practices, the core “Evil” mission remains the same. The wonder trio of psychologist Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), newly ordained priest and accomplished Church assessor David Acosta (Mike Colter), and resident tech expert scientist Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) are still investigating instances of the unusual at the request of local Catholic officials.

On the morning of Nov. 30, Robin Redding’s son Treshan, a senior at Oxford High School in Michigan, asked if he could stay home from school that day. Usually, Treshan goes to school with his cousins, but that morning, they weren’t answering their phones. “He felt that was kind of weird,” Redding says. “He felt a little different, a little off, like something is wrong.” In recent weeks, the school had put out two notices responding to rumors on social media about a possible threat to campus, and, Treshan says,...
