Sam Rubin, the late KTLA5 entertainment reporter, has been named as a posthumous recipient of the 76th Los Angeles Area Emmy Governors Award, the Television Academy announced today.
After joining Ktla in 1991, Rubin was a Los Angeles TV news mainstay as the outlet’s longtime entertainment reporter and regular interviewer on red carpets. He died unexpectedly on May 10 at age 64 after suffering a heart attack at his home in Brentwood.
The award, which is presented to an individual, company or organization that has made an outstanding, innovative and visionary achievement in the arts, sciences or management of television as well as a substantial contribution to the greater Los Angeles area, recognizes Rubin’s legacy of more than three decades of entertainment news reporting for the station.
Cris Abrego, the Chair of the Television Academy, made the announcement on Ktla this morning, saying the vote in favor of Rubin was unanimous.

On May 21, Ubisoft finally released XDefiant, more than three years after its announcement. This first-person shooter, aiming to compete with Call of Duty, is gaining some popularity among players at a rather rapid rate.
One of the main figures responsible for community feedback is Mark Rubin, a former Activision employee who worked on the popular Fps series. Although this new Ubisoft game is showing several issues, fans are very pleased with how Rubin is handling things. This is a good sign for the future of the game, which has a very active community.

With the launch of XDefiant, Ubisoft could finally achieve a spot in the competition for the Fps player base. This new title, which mixes all the known factions from the popular franchises that the company owns, is very similar to Call of Duty in several ways.
Fans are asking for new improvements for the weapon and attachment systems, especially towards the prestige possibility that the Activision Blizzard game has with their weapons. However, this new free-to-play Fps is thinking of a more long-term solution.

In the summer of 1990, screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin became an overnight success with the release of “Ghost,” a romantic thriller that would go on to become the top-grossing film of the year and earn Rubin an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. At least that’s how it seemed from the outside; the truth is that the 47-year-old filmmaker had been kicking around the industry for decades, working as a TV news editor, film museum curator, and writer-for-hire before “Ghost” (and then “Jacob’s Ladder” a few months later) established him as one of the most original voices in Hollywood cinema.
Rubin tells the story of everything that led up to “Ghost” — and everything that came after — in “It’s Only a Movie,” a book that’s half-show business memoir, half spiritual inquiry detailing his lifelong quest for enlightenment. That quest informs Rubin’s best films — “Brainstorm,” “Jacob’s Ladder,” “Ghost,” “My...

Ubisoft’s free-to-play first-person arena shooter, XDefiant is currently one of the most popular shooting games in the gaming industry. Players are having a lot of fun in this fast-paced combat game that features maps and characters from many other Ubisoft titles. One of the main reasons behind the success of the game is the contribution of Mark Rubin, who was Infinity Ward’s Executive Producer until early 2015. Rubin is now the Executive Game Director/Executive Producer at Ubisoft and with plenty of experience in this genre, he has made XDefiant a strong Call of Duty competitor.

Ubisoft’s XDefiant is about to drop a major update that tackles one of the community’s biggest complaints – snipers being overpowered. Mark Rubin, the Executive Producer of the game, took to X to announce a game-changing upcoming patch for sniper rifles.
The update, which introduces a flinch mechanic, is set to make sniping more challenging. The flinch mechanic will ensure that when snipers take hits, they can’t just instantly aim, shoot, and take out their opponents. This change is expected to level the playing field and make the game more balanced.

New factions will also be coming to XDefiant.

XDefiant has solved the first connectivity issues, making players able to play without having to wait anymore. Since its release five days ago, Ubisoft’s new free-to-play game has attracted a decent number of active players.
One of the game’s executive producers, Mark Rubin, has criticized some players for using their ultimate abilities to disrupt the match’s balance. Rubin has worked with games like Call of Duty in the past, so he knows about these kinds of issues in matches, but Ubisoft will have to see how to nerf or boost certain skills.

After many years in development and being announced in 2021, XDefiant has finally been released. The free-to-play Fps title will compete with Call of Duty, with the same kind of fast-phased gameplay and certain similar mechanics.

Ubisoft’s XDefiant is an online shooter that mimics the likes of Call of Duty isn’t going unnoticed by gamers across different platforms. The game’s easy-to-learn yet hard-to-master aspects are taking traditional shooter mechanics for a spin, but there’s a lot more to come.

In the late 1980s, Bruce Joel Rubin was a screenwriter with two interesting credits on his resume — “Brainstorm” (1983) and “Deadly Friend” (1986) — and a screenplay (“Jacob’s Ladder”) that everyone in Los Angeles agreed was terrific but which no one at the studios would green light. Rubin’s fortunes and reputation changed seemingly overnight on July 13, 1990, when his romantic thriller “Ghost” opened and became a worldwide smash. A few months later, “Jacob’s Ladder,” which had finally been brought to the screen by director Adrian Lyne, opened as well, and Rubin’s status as one of Hollywood’s top screenwriters was secure.
While “Ghost” ultimately garnered Rubin an Academy Award and went on to become a classic — one of those rare cases where personal expression seamlessly intersected with popular and artistic success — its path to the screen wasn’t always smooth. In the following exclusive excerpt from Rubin’s new memoir, “It’s Only a Movie,...

The Oscar-winning screenwriter says he has always been gay, but is only now going public. At 81, he reflects on LSD, gurus and falling out with Whoopi Goldberg
When Bruce Joel Rubin was writing Ghost, he didn’t think about the Oscars it might win or the money it would make (more than $500m). Instead, he drew on an intimate moment from his past. When Molly, played by Demi Moore, tells her boyfriend Sam (Patrick Swayze) that she loves him, all he can say in return is: “Ditto.” Back in his college days, Rubin was the ditto guy, unable to echo his then-girlfriend’s heartfelt sentiment. But for an unusual reason: he was gay.
“I’ve never not been gay,” says the genial 81-year-old from his home in a leafy part of upstate New York, where the trees are crowding at the window behind him. “I am fully gay, and I always knew it.

Xbox has been making many decisions over the past few weeks that the public has deemed questionable and unnecessary, but the most recent one has everyone scratching their heads.
The latest incident involves XDefiant, Ubisoft’s free-to-play, first-person arena shooter, and some questionable design decisions. While Ubisoft was originally getting all the flak for it, it turns out Microsoft’s gaming brand had everything to do with it.

Xbox’s one rule for Ubisoft’s upcoming shooter has people confused
XDefiant is rapidly readying for release, with a recent server test session going very well from Ubisoft’s side. One feature that people were hoping to see, however, was the ability to turn on console-only crossplay.

There’s been an outpouring of love over the past few days after the untimely death of Ktla entertainment journalist Sam Rubin on Friday, and this morning Rubin’s son, Colby, has added his voice to the chorus.
Colby joined the Ktla 5 Morning News with a four-minute tribute to his father spoken direct to camera. In it he remembers his father’s support for his aspiring theatrical ambitions, their trips to Disneyland, Boy Scout meetings together, even time shared on visits to his physical therapist.
“I idolized you. You are and will always be my hero,” he said. “I never got to tell you that, and I’m so sorry, dad.”
Colby also shared onscreen a text exchange with his father in which he told his dad he could not go through with a particular theatrical performance because someone had criticized him. “My confidence just got shot,” wrote Colby.

I spent the first 37 years of my life on the East Coast, and even there, I knew who Sam Rubin was.
The beloved Ktla Los Angeles entertainment reporter, who died May 10 at age 64, was a Hollywood fixture for over 30 years, beloved, trusted and respected. Drawing heartfelt tributes ranging from industry veterans like Tom Hanks and Henry Winkler and rising stars like Charmaine Bingwa, I’ve never seen such an outpouring for an entertainment journalist since perhaps Roger Ebert in 2013. Sam greeted everyone with the same infectious enthusiasm and genuine curiosity, whether they were industry stalwarts or nervous newcomers. He was synonymous with Los Angeles but he was also known well outside of Southern California through his reporting for ITV and Australia’s 9 Network.

Donald Trump’s former executive assistant, Madeleine Westerhout, broke down crying on the witness stand while she was testifying in his New York hush money trial. On Thursday, Westerhout, a Trump loyalist, was called to the stand.
Westerhout was forced out of the Trump administration for revealing personal information about Trump’s family to the press.
Westerhout was fired from the White House after allegedly bragged to journalists at an off-the-record dinner that she had a better relationship with Trump than his daughters, Ivanka Trump and Tiffany Trump Boulos.
She told journalists that the former president disliked being photographed with Tiffany because he viewed her as overweight. On August 30, 2019, she formally resigned as the former president’s executive assistant.
When the prosecution had asked the former executive assistant about the dinner with reporters, she began crying while talking about her “youthful indiscretion.”

The news this morning of the death of entertainment journalist Sam Rubin has touched a nerve in Los Angeles, with his home base Ktla going live and commercial free with remembrances and tributes from the top of the 1 o’clock news through the station’s regularly-scheduled programming at 2 p.m. and right into the Ktla News at 3.
Among those calling in was Henry Winkler, who was one of Rubin’s favorite guests.
“It’s the most horrible thing,” Winkler said via phone from an airport. “Two things I know: He made you feel special every single time [he interviewed you], and I am not the only person who felt that special warmth.”
Jerry O’Connell, another regular on the show, spoke with the anchors on air.
“The man was a legend. Everyone is going to have a story about how Mr. Rubin touched them, personally. My first live interview was with Sam at Ktla.

Arriving as the artist’s third full-length album, This Is How Tomorrow Moves sees beabadoobee teaming up with legendary record producer Rick Rubin. As such, instead of recording in beabadoobee’s bedroom, the songs were cut at Rubin’s famed Shangri-La studio in Malibu. Despite the shift in setting, the record is billed as an introspective effort, showcasing both artistic and personal growth. “I love this album,” beabadoobee said in a statement. “I feel like it’s helped me so much more than anything else has in navigating this new era, this new understanding of where I’m at. With the tsunami of action blockbusters flooding the multiplex, you might think that the movie studios have forgotten that Spring (despite some near ninety-degree days) is the season for romance. So, where are the love stories? Actually, this new one is only streaming, though it’s certainly worthy of a theatrical run, After all, it stars an Oscar-winning actress and its director has made two films that “took home the gold”. Plus it’s based on a popular novel, though in many ways it’s a modern media gloss on a fairy tale. Mind you, the “princess” is unlike any we’ve met as this is more of a May/December pairing (minus the tons of angst of that flick from last year). Like that classic Nat King Cole tune, each of these unlikely lovers is smitten with The Idea Of You.
We first meet one of the “yous” in the film’s opening scene.

On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump needed to be woken up by his lawyer, Todd Blanche, after he fell asleep during his New York hush money trial for the fourth time since the trial proceedings started.
“Trump is struggling to stay awake,” Susanne Craig, a reporter for The New York Times, wrote regarding Trump’s behavior during the trial. “His eyes were closed for a short period. He was jolted awake when Todd Blanche, his lawyer, nudged him while sliding a note in front of him.”
MSNBC legal analyst Lisa Rubin reported that the former president’s lawyers are using tricks to keep him awake.
“I guess they have tried a number of different devices,” Rubin said. “Yeah, sleeping for a lot of it. I would say they’ve tried a number of different devices to keep Trump awake. Partially in response, or what appears to be in response to collective press corps observations.

“I guess they have tried a number of different devices,” Rubin said. “Yeah, sleeping for a lot of it. I would say they’ve tried a number of different devices to keep Trump awake. Partially in response, or what appears to be in response to collective press corps observations.

Whether you like it or not, Sherlock Holmes is the man “who never lived and will never die.” Ever since being created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1887, the iconic detective has been ever-present in popular culture: for 137 years, Sherlock Holmes has been investigating mind-boggling cases, uncovering conspiracies, and catching criminals. And he’s not stopping any time soon, we’ll tell you that much!
Sherlock Holmes Will Be Back on Pages
94 years after Conan Doyle’s death, the author’s descendants recently gave their blessing to writer Gareth Rubin (The Turnglass & The Winter Agent). Rubin will write a new book series about Sherlock Holmes, but this time, it won’t be just the iconic detective under the spotlight: titled Holmes and Moriarty, the new books will give his archnemesis just as much attention and time.

Ubisoft’s free-to-play Fps title, XDefiant, was announced almost three years ago. Ubisoft dropped the first reveal trailer for the game in July 2021, which featured four factions and was dubbed a Call of Duty killer.
As fans wait for the title to go live, a new update from the Executive Producer of XDefiant, Mark Rubin, has disappointed fans as the game has faced another delay. This isn’t the first time XDefiant has been delayed, and with no clear release date in sight, fans are getting increasingly frustrated after being impressed by earlier beta tests.

xDefiant, the first-person shooter title set to take over Call of Duty, is one of the most highly anticipated games coming from Ubisoft, but the game’s delay has players wondering whether it’ll turn out fine upon launch or not. Despite having similarities, such as gameplay, the game is being labeled as a Call of Duty killer as it aims to provide a unique experience to first-person shooter enthusiasts.
While CoD has enjoyed being the most popular Fps title over the years, there have been several controversial features in the game, and one of them is the skill-based matchmaking system (Sbmm). It has now been confirmed that xDefiant will not have this multiplayer feature.

Call of Duty has become the face of first-person shooters and competitive gaming, and throughout the years, more publishers have taken on the challenge to develop their take on the genre. Mark Rubin serves as an executive producer of an upcoming first-person shooter game from Ubisoft called XDefiant which is scheduled for release in the next few days.
Amidst the release of the game, Rubin announced that their title would be delayed, and the reasons are not what most people would think. Some are suggesting that the game is trying its hardest to keep up with other mainline competitive live services but Rubin countered by stating they are delaying XDefiant due to technical issues and that no new features are being added.

Pearl Jam have dropped a second single, “Running,” from their upcoming album Dark Matter, set to arrive April 19.
“Running” is a two-minute blast of break-neck rock and roll, punctuated by a heavy, half-time breakdown and a scorching guitar solo. Eddie Vedder delivers a characteristically mighty vocal performance as well, bellowing during the bridge — “Living in the shadows, crossing my fingers/A date with the gallows and a reprieve not looking likely” — before letting out a throat-scorching hallow during the final refrain, “You got me running!”

‘X-Men ’97’ premiered yesterday on Disney+ with its first two episodes, and initial reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. The show debuted with a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics hailing it as the “Best Marvel release in years.” Metacritic also awarded the show a high score of 82, signifying “Universal acclaim,” a rare achievement for recent Marvel Studios projects.
The series capitalizes on its biggest strength: being a direct continuation of ‘X-Men: The Animated Series.’ It strives to emulate the characters and animation of its predecessor while presenting a more mature and “raw” plot compared to typical Marvel fare.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Winderbaum disclosed that Kevin Feige had two specific requirements before approving the show.

‘X-Men ’97’ premiered yesterday with the two first episodes on Disney+ and the first reactions are amazing. The show premiered with 100 % on Rotten Tomatoes with the critics calling it “Best Marvel release in years’ Metacritic gave the show a high 82 score indicating that it earned “Universal acclaim” – a feat that is a rarity in the last few years when it comes to Marvel Studios projects.
The show in large part played on its greatest strength, the fact that it is a direct continuation of the ‘X-Men: The Animated Series’ as it tried to imitate both the characters and animation to a reasonable extent while keeping the plot more mature and “raw” than what we’re used to seeing.

In Michael Showalter’s The Idea of You, based on the novel by Robinne Lee, Amazon MGM Studios brings to the screen a narrative that tantalizes with the prospect of exploring the complexities of love, age disparity and the pursuit of happiness in the digital age. Anchored by Anne Hathaway’s Solene, a single mother and art gallery owner, and Nicholas Galitzine’s Hayes Campbell, a young pop star from the fictional band August Moon, the film sets its sights on charting the course of an unconventional romance, but the script muddles it all up to produce a somewhat funny, somewhat entertaining, albeit overly long romantic comedy.
Solene is a Californian art gallery owner and single mother who had initially planned a solo camping trip. However, her plans are rerouted when she assumes the responsibility of taking her daughter Izzy (Ella Rubin) to Coachella, after Izzy’s father, Daniel (Reid Scott...

It was a clean sweep for Taylor Swift at the 2024 Gold Derby Music Awards. In the history of the GDMAs thus far, Swift is the only artist who has won Artist of the Year. She’s also the only artist who has won Record of the Year and Song of the Year. ‘Tis the season to be thankful. The dust has settled on Halloween, and November brings colder temps and the dreaded time change. As the holidays loom, many people take stock of their lives and express gratitude for what they have. As for horror movies, Thanksgiving gives our favorite genre a chance to explore themes of thankfulness while dishing up some delectable gore and practical effects. With John Grissmer’s Blood Rage and Herschell Gordon Lewis’ Blood Feast, which isn’t technically a holiday horror, it’s a season of family time and delicious bloodshed. We should be so grateful.
Blood Rage, written by Bruce Rubin, throbs with the coarseness of a claw hammer. Its mangled, DIY body parts are as essential to its charm as the grisly bursts of violence. Mark Soper plays double duty as two identical twins, Todd and Terry. As young boys, Terry slaughters two young teens...
