The fashion shows that just ended in Italy — those of Pitti Uomo in Florence and those of the Milan Fashion Week, dedicated to fall/winter 2024 menswear collections — painted a decidedly critical picture of the fashion scene, raising many questions and providing some very interesting answers.
For the Italian luxury sector, 2023 was a year that began well and ended very badly, with a decline of 7.2 percent compared to the previous year and forecasts for 2024 that are not exactly encouraging. The causes are many and uncontrollable: the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, the Chinese real estate bubble, and finally the rise of inflation in Italy that makes exports, especially those to the American market, less competitive. After the explosive prior year of 2022, everyone’s expectations were considerably lowered, and this changed everything in terms of product.

When Jared Leto faced the press last October to promote the launch of his skin and hair care line Twentynine Palms, the Oscar-winning actor and rock star said that he’s asked “all the time” to divulge the secret to his youthful appearance. “I do have a good answer for that, but I probably won’t tell you,” teased the 51-year-old to Men’s Health. “Just to keep everybody guessing. Really, honestly, at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter.”
There’s a more pressing question in the air now for Leto and his Twentynine Palms celebrity brand, and this answer does matter: What happened?
Less than a year after a high-profile launch — touted in write-ups from Vogue to Vanity Fair and toasted at a starry Chateau Marmont party that hosted Andrew Garfield, Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds and former Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele — sales have ceased on the brand’s website.

When Kristina Rogers, aka @SubwaySessions, paired a nude lace bodysuit with red basketball shorts and pink pumps in one of her TikTok videos, she says she wasn’t trying to make a statement — she was showcasing her art. “I see myself as a canvas. That’s why I post. I don’t see it as showing off,” she stated on TikTok, later telling Rolling Stone, “If I don’t feel like I’m doing something, if I don’t feel an emotion with an outfit, then I’m not going to put it on.

Jared Leto isn't afraid to take risks when it comes to the Met Gala. On Monday, the 51-year-old actor and musician walked the Metropolitan Museum of Art steps in New York City dressed as none other than the late Karl Lagerfeld's cat, Choupette. According to USA Today, Leto declared to photographers on the carpet in French, "C'est moi, Choupette!"
Leto appeared to have the most fun as he struck silly poses on the red carpet and linked up with Lizzo and his "WeCrashed" costar Anne Hathaway. He kept up the antics even after changing out of the full bodysuit and carried around the cat costume head to afterparties. Later, on May 5, Leto shared some more photos of his feline self with other stars on Instagram, writing, "Cat selfies from my camera...

His exit was announced Wednesday, ending an eight-year run.

The official announcement by Gucci credited Michele with playing “a fundamental part in making the brand what it is today through his groundbreaking creativity.”
Michele cited “different perspectives” as the reason for his departure, without elaborating.

Gucci’s Fall 2022 campaign gives cinephile a new meaning.
The fashion house’s new campaign sees iconic scenes from Stanley Kubrick films meticulously recreated to showcase Gucci’s “Exquisite” collection. The scenes — which draw Kubrick classics like 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, Eyes Wide Shut, and The Shining — are nearly exact recreations of the auteur’s work, save for the insertion of models wearing new Gucci pieces.
In campaign images and a roughly minute-and-a-half video spot, the pieces at once blend in with and cut through Kubric’s scenes.

The Jared Leto imposter count tallies up. The House of Gucci star took to the 2022 Met Gala red carpet dressed in, naturally, Gucci with the brand's creative director Alessandro Michele by his side. The two were twinning at the big event, both wearing a matching cream suit with subtle floral print and black lapel. They also carried the same maroon bag and wore the same hairstyle (beard included), topped off with a red bowtie. (See every star on the red carpet here.) The big double-take trick came after Fredrik Robertsson shocked on the red carpet and had just about everyone believing he was Jared. Fredrik wore a bold, bird-like outfit made up of several thorny strands spreading from his body....

Hello, gorgeous! Jonah Hill is one proud older brother. Fashion can be as funky as it can be fickle. For decades, many designers—like the late Manfred Thierry Mugler—have pushed boundaries with their styles. At his fall/winter 1995 couture show during Paris Fashion Week, supermodel Nadja Auermann channeled a bionic fembot, thanks to one of his futuristic creations. Or, remember the Gucci fall/winter 2018 show at Milan Fashion Week, when models walked the runway carrying a variety of curious accessories, such as a snake, a baby dragon figure and...a replica of their own severed head. "We are the Dr. Frankenstein of our lives," Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele told Vogue at the...

In the past year, thanks to vaccines and an abundance of caution, in-person events began to resume throughout the season. It began with Emmy FYC panels, usually filled to around 20% of their normal capacity and held outdoors. But as the year went on, it was starting to seem as if premieres, screenings and events were back in full swing.
Of course, it would be foolish to predict how long this could last — due to a major surge in Covid cases, many premieres and junkets have gone virtual while events including the Academy’s Governors Awards and the Critics Choice Awards have pushed their dates to a yet-to-be-determined time.
Still, the past few months provided many fun opportunities for several of Variety’s editors; here, they pick a few of their favorite moments.

Guillermo del Toro and Steven Spielberg formed their own two-person film club during the pandemic.
“During the lockdown he encouraged me and I encouraged him, we found movies we had never seen before and we let each other know what they were,” Spielberg said. “So the lockdown was literally spent watching movies, getting on text and talking for hours about the film. He knows more about films than Martin Scorsese.”
Spielberg’s remarks came after “The Shape of Water” director honored him Saturday night at Lacma’s 10th annual Art + Film Gala at Lacma.
Spielberg admitted he was anxious about being recognized by a museum because he has never called himself an “artist.”
“I never know what to feel when people refer to me as an ‘artist’ or call what I make ‘art’ because I don’t think I’ve ever referred to myself in that way,” the “West Side Story” director said.

It was truly a monumental occasion, as this year marks the company’s centennial.

The legendary designer Dapper Dan, known for helping to construct hip-hop’s sartorial sensibility, will be the recipient of the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2021 Cfda ceremony. The honor marks the first time the award has been given to a Black designer, as well as a designer without a formal runway show (though Dan would likely disagree that he’s never had a runway show). Previous recipients include Bob Mackie, Narcisco Rodriguez, Rick Owens, Norma Kamali, Betsey Johnson, Tom Ford, and Vera Wang.

Jason Sudeikis isn’t adhering to black-tie style rules this awards season, but no one can say he doesn’t know how to handle statement dressing.
The Ted Lasso star continued to eschew formalwear in favor of casual style at Sunday night’s SAG Awards, choosing to wear a navy wool sweater emblazoned with “My Body My Choice,” an iconic feminist slogan about abortion rights, designed by Alessandro Michele for Gucci. From a past collection, the unisex piece is no longer available on Gucci’s site, but eagle-eyed fashion fans can still locate the $1,100 design at retailers like London-based Browns.

There’s a TikTok video of a young man with tousled dark hair wearing eyeliner and a sweatshirt, throwing a smoldering gaze to the camera as Ariana Grande’s “Positions” plays; the camera then cuts to the boy in a full-blown French maid costume — white cap, dainty gloves, apron, and all. In another video, a girl with short hair and a nose ring rests between the legs of her boyfriend in a French maid costume, his hairy legs peeking out beneath frilly white lace, which transitions into them switching positions and outfits.

He is the king of the Hollywood underground. So why has he made a mini-series for Gucci? The film-maker talks about life in isolation, his gay president project and the big screen’s demise
At home in California over lockdown Gus Van Sant, king of the Hollywood underground, was, like the rest of us, binge-watching Netflix. “Ozark, that was good,” he says of the drama about the wholesome, apple-pie Byrdes, whose family business in a sleepy lakeside town happens to be money-laundering for a ruthless Mexican cartel. “Although, you know, kind of grisly.”
Van Sant’s latest project, by contrast, is all glamour. He has shot a seven-episode miniseries for Gucci in collaboration with the brand’s creative director, Alessandro Michele. Ouverture of Something That Never Ended takes an esoteric day-in-the-life format, following Silvia, played by Silvia Calderoni, from the moment she wakes up and steps into her high-heeled gold house slippers.

Many filmmakers scrambled to get work done under the strange, unpredictable circumstances of 2020, but few worked faster than Gus Van Sant. The “Milk” auteur was preparing to shoot the Will Ferrell drama “Prince of Fashion,” an Amazon-backed project adapted from Michael Chabon’s GQ article, during the first half of the year.
When that fell apart, Van Sant spent the summer trying to sort out his next move. In early October, he was he was approached by Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele about fast-tracking a new project.
