The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and low budget film producers have teamed up to form a new subcommittee aimed at ensuring workers are free from harassment and discrimination. The group seeks to implement the Hollywood Commission’s Respect on Set program, which offers employers who are signatories of IATSE’s Low Budget Agreement services to create workplaces free from harassment and discrimination.
According to the Hollywood Commission’s recent surveys of entertainment workers, workers on low budget productions experience more sexual coercion and assault, along with great rates of gender and racial bias, compared to their major-studio counterparts. However, these abuses are reported at much lower rates on low budget productions. The survey found that workers have the impression that nothing will be done if they make a formal complaint.
“We applaud the steps taken by low budget producers who, understandably, want their sets to be free from sexual harassment and abusive conduct.

Last month, Anita Hill’s Hollywood Commission released the sobering findings from its most recent survey into workplace abuse: Most of the 5,000-plus respondents said that they were now better informed on how to identify misconduct, but they had little faith in employers’ and the industry’s ability to address the behavior.
At the time, Hill told The Hollywood Reporter that the report was only the first step in the journey of systemic change and that raising awareness of where people in the industry stand could lead to the reform or creation of policies and procedures to resolve what is lacking.
Now, two organizations have taken the first action as a result of the Commission’s survey: IATSE and the low budget film producers with whom the union negotiates for its Low Budget Agreement have formed a subcommittee focused on protecting workers on set. IATSE is forming a subcommittee with the low budget film producers to address sexual harassment on film and TV sets.
The primary mission of the subcommittee is to implement the Hollywood Commission’s Respect on Set program, which provides services to all signatories of IATSE’s Low Budget Agreement (Lba) (which covers films with budgets under $15M).
Those services are aimed at helping them create workplaces free from harassment and discrimination. They include a code of conduct, education resources, and a third-party reporting structure. The goal for the subcommittee to actually implement and expand these services ahead of IATSE’s 2025 Lba, so they can be included as provisions in the new agreement.
This marks a first-of-its-kind collaboration, as it is a commitment to creating enforceable standards for sexual harassment in a collective bargaining agreement.
So far, there’s to timetable for when the committee is expected to roll out these implementations.

The Hollywood Commission spent four years surveying the entertainment industry about discrimination, harassment, and bullying. They learned that while things were bad all over, low-budget film and TV sets had it worst. These crew members reported more sexual harassment, assault, discrimination, and gender and racial bias than their major-studio counterparts. Furthermore, these abuses were reported at much lower rates because workers believe nothing will be done.
Now, the Hc is making moves to address the discrepancy. It’s teaming with IATSE on a subcommittee that will determine protections and provisions for sexual harassment and discrimination for IATSE members and employers who work under the Low Budget Agreement. Any Lba signatories, which cover film and TV projects made for under $15 million, will be required to comply.
Formed in 2017 after the rise of #metoo and chaired by Anita Hill, the Hollywood Commission is an organization designed to root out abuses of power in Hollywood.

“No one sets out to make a bad movie,” Gina Prince-Blythewood said directly on a Zoom with IndieWire.
She’s speaking for everyone in Hollywood, but especially for herself, Issa Rae, and Kumail Nanjiani; the three executive producers and mentors on Season 4 of “Project Greenlight,” which Max recently rebooted with fresh new talent. This time, “Greenlight” will focus on a first-time filmmaker Meko Winbush, on a time crunch to make her debut feature, “Gray Matter.”
“I know ultimately I could, but doing the film in 18 days with three weeks prep and a script that still needed work — it’s insane,” Prince-Blythewood said. “The fact that Meko came through it and she’s still mentally stable is testament to her.”
Throughout the series, Winbush deals with familiar filmmaker struggles: creative clashes, moving schedules, and an uncertain script — all with the documentary crew of “Project Greenlight” hot on her heels and her crew’s.

However, Jake finds himself re-thinking his strategy when his Miami mansion is overtaken by a dangerous home invader whose previous jobs have all ended in murder and arson.

The annual Purge continues even after the sirens stop in the official trailer for Everardo Gout's The Forever Purge, coming to theaters on July 2nd:
"This summer, all the rules are broken as a sect of lawless marauders decides that the annual Purge does not stop at daybreak and instead should never end in The Forever Purge.
Blumhouse’s infamous terror franchise hurtles into innovative new territory as members of an underground movement, no longer satisfied with one annual night of anarchy and murder, decide to overtake America through an unending campaign of mayhem and massacre. No one is safe.
Adela and her husband Juan live in Texas, where Juan is working as a ranch hand for the wealthy Tucker family. Juan impresses the Tucker patriarch, Caleb, but that fuels the jealous anger of Caleb’s son, Dylan.

Everardo Gout directs the movie opening from Universal on July 2
What if the annual Purge didn’t stop at daybreak and instead continued its streak of murderous, lawless mayhem forever? That’s the premise of “The Forever Purge,” in which a sect of marauders conspire to make sure this year’s Purge has no end.
“The Forever Purge” is the fifth and potentially final film in the horror franchise, which imagines an America in which crime has largely been eradicated by making all crime, including murder, legal for one day only.
Over the years, the franchise has evolved from a simple home invasion movie to a social commentary and satire about elections and American politics.
This latest entry aims to continue that streak. Everardo Gout, who has been a director on series including “Mars,” “The Terror” and “Snowpiercer,” is taking over directing duties on “The Forever Purge,” and the franchise’s original writer,...

The Entertainment Industry Foundation has launched the Eif Careers Program, an initiative designed to create a more diverse talent pipeline to careers in film and television by increasing the number of underrepresented candidates in entry-level production jobs. Eif says it also plans to expand the program to include entry-level corporate and administrative roles, as well.
In partnership with Crewvie, the digital hiring platform for entertainment professionals, the program is funded by the James Irvine Foundation and the Best Buy Foundation, and is housed on Crewvie’s existing database. It’s open to candidates who do not yet have any production credits, and there is no charge to studios and networks to access candidates’ profiles. The program’s steering committee includes executives from Sony Pictures Entertainment, Disney General Entertainment, NBCUniversal and WarnerMedia.

Nine months after launching its new theatrical distribution operation, Japanese pay TV broadcaster Wowow has made its first theatrical film acquisition, closing an all-rights deal for pandemic thriller Songbird, starring Kj Apa, Sofia Carson, Craig Robinson, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stormare, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Walter Hauser and Demi Moore.
Produced by Michael Bay and Adam Goodman, and directed by Adam Mason, the dystopian (but all too real) film is set in 2022 as another pandemic ravages the world and its cities. The film zones in on a handful of people as they navigate the obstacles hindering society: disease, martial law, quarantine, and vigilantes.
Screenplay was written by Adam Mason and his writing partner Simon Boyes during the early part of the lockdown. The film was among the first features to shoot in Los Angeles after lockdown restrictions were eased.

Covid-19 mutates to Covid-23 four years into quarantine in the first trailer to Michael Bay’s pandemic thriller “Songbird.”
“Songbird” was one of the first features to film in Los Angeles since productions shut down in mid-March, and recently wrapped production. It’s a pandemic thriller that stars Kj Apa and Sofia Carson alongside Craig Robinson, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stormare, Jenna Ortega, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Water Hauser and Demi Moore.

This November, on Friday the 13th, prepare to get Freaky with a pitch-black horror-comedy about a slasher, a senior, and the brutal truth about high school from the deliciously debased mind of writer-director Christopher Landon.
Seventeen-year-old Millie Kessler (Kathryn Newton) is just trying to survive the bloodthirsty halls of Blissfield High and the cruelty of the popular crowd. But when she becomes the newest target of The Butcher (Vince Vaughn), her town’s infamous serial killer, her senior year becomes the least of her worries.
When The Butcher’s mystical ancient dagger causes him and Millie to wake up in each other’s bodies, Millie learns that she has just 24 hours to get her body back before the switch becomes permanent and she’s trapped in the form of a middle-aged maniac forever. The only problem is she now looks like a towering psychopath who’s the target of a...
