2024 was a soft hum for the industry, but this year is already off to an operatic start. How could Hollywood resist pushing a bunch of sequels down our throats? If last year was an appetizer, with Inside Out 2 and the Deadpool/Wolverine tag team, 2025 is arriving with far more plump (just look at what the Minecraft film was able to do) and impossible missions.
Superheroes are obviously back, as they have continued to do so for the last decade. James Gunn’s Superman will be figuring out life again, and with Marvel’s Phase V coming to an end with Thunderbolts*, the new Fantastic Four reboot will hope to erase the sour taste of its previous attempts.
Maybe this time they’ll get it right? Our fingers remain crossed. James Cameron, meanwhile, isn’t done with blue aliens either, and Avatar 3 will likely demand another three hours of your...

Of all the people Taylor Swift has reportedly been involved romantically with to date, Matty Healy might as well be accepted by many as, perhaps, the most controversial one. Over the years, while making comments that may be interpreted as ‘offensive’ by many was one thing he did, the lead vocalist of The 1975 has gained a lot of limelight for not being sorry for it either.
Yet, the most surprising part about it all is that Healy has actually crossed some lines with some of his controversies, but doesn’t seem to have quite faced the brutal consequences for the same. Like his worst controversy about m—turbating to ‘brutalized’ women p-rn, which he himself confessed to, and which is inevitably making cancel culture look like a joke.

As indicated by the recent announcement that there’s going to be a “John Wick 5,” death in the movies simply isn’t what it used to be. There’s no longer anything final about it; increasingly, it’s not anything at all. At the end of “John Wick 4,” John Wick didn’t just get killed — he seemed really dead, as in let’s-put-a-fork-in-the-franchise dead. But, of course, the moment you had that thought, and the word “franchise” entered your brain, you just knew it couldn’t be. It would leave too much money on the table. The awesome death of John Wick needed to be rendered null and void so that Keanu Reeves could come back.
“Until Dawn” is a gimcrack horror-movie hodpepodge that reflects the very same attitude towards death. (It doesn’t matter! Just push reset!) But the film doesn’t pull that cheap trick at the...

Two of Hollywood’s biggest stars have clapped back against a report putting down Ryan Coogler’s new original horror movie, Sinners. The film opened with $63 million at the global box office, including $48 million from domestic earnings and $15 million from international markets. The film was produced for a reported budget of $90 million, meaning it still needs around $180 million to break even. Still, a $63 million start is outstanding for an original horror movie with such strong reviews. However, Variety’s box office story for Sinners’ opening weekend performance took a negative angle, citing “a $90 million price tag before global marketing expenses” that leaves “profitability a ways away.” This led Ben Stiller and Patrick Schwarzenegger to respond in social media posts, which can be found below.
It’s opening weekend …— Patrick Schwarzenegger (@PSchwarzenegger) April 20, 2025In what universe does a 60 million dollar opening for an original studio movie warrant this headline? https://t.

Ballerina's lead engages the Baba Yaga in a brand new poster for the upcoming John Wick spinoff.
The poster spotlights Ana de Armas' Eve Macarro in a crowded field of new and familiar faces to the John Wick universe, including Wick (Keanu Reeves), the Director (Anjelica Huston), and Winston (Ian McShane) surrounded by guns and ornamental backgrounds. A knife fight between Macarro and Wick can also be seen in the middle of the poster, mirroring the recent Ballerina trailer shown at CinemaCon. Earlier this week, Ballerina's X page further hyped up de Armas' hand-to-hand combat via a behind-the-scenes clip of her getting thrown around by an extra, even getting a few hits on him with a frying pan.

The Highlander cannot die! After originally being set up at Lionsgate as a potential new universe of movies from the director of the “John Wick” series, director Chad Stahelski’s remake of the 1980s cult film “Highlander” is changing sides.
Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists, as led by former Netflix film chief Scott Stuber, are in final negotiations to secure the rights to remake a new version of “Highlander,” again with the aim to release the film in theaters.
Instead of yet another new take on it, Stahelski is still attached to direct, and “Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill is still attached to star (looks like all of that sword training he told CinemaCon crowds he was doing won’t go to waste). Michael Finch (“John Wick: Chapter 4”) is writing the screenplay. United Artists too still has hopes that the film could be developed into a larger new series.

Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists’ (UA) and Scott Stuber are in final talks to secure the rights to the cult classic 1980s action fantasy franchise “Highlander” and the planned remake set to begin production this fall. There were no new John Wick projects sent out into the world last year, but that all changes this year, thanks to Ana de Armas. The Blade Runner 2049 and No Time to Die star will lead a new John Wick spin-off movie, Ballerina, that just got a thrilling new look. The official Ballerina Instagram account shared a new clip from behind the scenes of the upcoming action film, which shows Armas battling a foe with a pan, proving she’s every bit as resourceful as Keanu Reeves’ John Wick. In addition to Ana de Armas, Ballerina will also star Norman Reedus as Pine, with Lance Reddick and Ian McShane reprising their roles as Sharon and Winston, respectively. Reeves will also appear as John Wick in the film, which is coming to theaters on June 6.

Did Andrew Garfield Look Up To His The Social Network Co-Star Justin Timberlake? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Andrew Garfield didn’t just meet his childhood idol while filming The Social Network. He shared scenes with him. In 2010, when the Oscar-nominated film hit theaters, Garfield was still carving out his Hollywood identity. But working with Justin Timberlake? That was a full-circle moment.
During his Wired Autocomplete Interview, Garfield gave fans a peek into that surreal experience. “I wish I could be Justin when I was a kid,” he admitted, adding, “He brought s*xy back. That is no mean feat for one person to do.” Safe to say, Garfield wasn’t just acting on set. He was lowkey fanboying the whole time.
Justin Timberlake played Sean Parker, the flashy co-founder of Napster, in The Social Network, while Andrew Garfield portrayed Eduardo Saverin, Facebook’s ousted co-founder. Their characters clashed hard in the film.

Which special skill did Keanu Reeves have to learn for John Wick 4? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Yes, you see, this time, the guy had to saddle up, literally. For the film’s opening sequence, Keanu Reeves had to master horseback riding, and not just the casual kind. He aimed to fast-gallop through the desert like a seasoned rider. As he put it during an Esquire interview, “There’s a sequence—hopefully, knock on wood—in John Wick 4, the opening sequence. John Wick is back in the desert on a horse. I’m going to hopefully be able to fast-gallop and run.”
Now that’s not what fans expected. After all, the John Wick series thrived on neon shootouts, slick martial arts, and stylish mayhem. But tossing Reeves back into the wild terrain on horseback was peak Wick, and he didn’t shy away from the challenge. When asked if...

Dwayne Cruise Reeves Red Notice(Photo Credit –Facebook)
Dwayne Johnson had some massive names on his dream board for Red Notice. And not just Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. He aimed for the stars, literally. Word was, he wanted Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves to join the action-packed chaos. Now that’s a franchise flex.
Red Notice already smashed Netflix records on its debut. It logged a wild 148 million viewing hours on opening day, making it the streamer’s biggest launch at the time. Johnson, Reynolds, and Gadot played high-stakes criminals (and one agent chasing them), flipping through museums, vaults, and betrayal like it was just another Tuesday. But even with that lineup, Johnson wasn’t done assembling his dream squad.
According to The Illuminerdi, Cruise had been set for a surprise cameo in the original movie. Just a quick drop-in, sure, but one that would’ve teased a bigger role in the sequel.

More than 30 years after embarking on his Hollywood stunt career, Chad Stahelski is praising the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for finally recognizing the field.
Following AMPAS’ announcement Thursday that Achievement in Stunt Design will become a new category at the 100th Oscars, the John Wick director told Deadline how much he appreciates the Academy “for really putting in the time” with the decision of how best to honor the stunt community.
“None of us [in the industry] would be here if it wasn’t for the last 100 years of stunt people,” noted Stahelski over the phone while overseeing a color-correcting session on Ballerina, which he is producing. “We’ve come a long way because a lot of other people have sacrificed a lot. Netflix has a sneaky habit of adding some excellent flicks with no advance notice. Sometimes they might not be the most exciting or interesting movies. This is not the case with their latest addition to the action genre.
I'll let you know right now that if you loved Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, you must watch this movie today. This isn't in Tarantino's style. There isn't a lot of snappy dialogue, and certainly no hip 70s soundtrack. It does have a lot of, in the words of your favorite streamer's advisory language, "strong bloody violence, gore, and language."
Think of Robert Rodriguez's El Mariachi, add a bit of Django Unchained, a healthy dose of John Wick, set it in WWII, and you've got one of the decade's best action movies. The latter two films are on Netflix, and John Wick 4, so you might as well enjoy a vengeance-filled weekend.

If there's one other thing that the John Wick franchise isn't lacking besides next-level stunt work and action, it's colorful supporting characters. Since the first film in the series, each subsequent entry has managed to expand the world of assassins and gun-fu even more with new influential figures. Whether it's a member of the high table like Bill Skarsgard's character, Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont, or John Wick's (Keanu Reeves) fellow hitmen such as Caine (portrayed brilliantly by Donnie Yen), there has always been a compelling new character in each film to challenge or support John in an interesting way. Laurence Fishburne's Bowery King was one figure of support, and he's more than willing to return for the recently announced John Wick: Chapter 5.
While speaking to ComicBook.com, Fishburne was asked if he would return to play the Bowery King in John Wick: Chapter 5. Fishburne played it cool,...

For his upcomingLazarus series, anime director Shinichiro Watanabe collaborated with American filmmaker Chad Stahelski -- the director and stunt choreographer behind John Wick and The Matrix films, respectively. According to Watanabe, Stahelski played a major role in the creation of Lazarus' action scenes, which are interwoven into a narrative that's both exciting and suspenseful.
Set in a futuristic society, Lazarus revolves around a group of special agents who set out on a high-stakes mission to track down Dr. Skinner -- a scientist responsible for creating a "miracle drug" that's on the verge of wiping out most of the world's population. In a recent interview with Animate Times, Watanabe explains how ensuring the quality of the action scenes was one of his biggest concerns. "I didn't want to do the same thing as I did in the past when I was doing an action movie for the first time in a while.

Fresh from an appearance on the big stage promoting her starring turn in Ballerina during Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation on Tuesday, Ana de Armas found her way to a new location in Las Vegas. The Oscar-nominated actress turned up Wednesday inside the John Wick Experience, a new and immersive 12,000-square-foot ticketed attraction inspired by the blockbuster franchise. De Armas spent some time talking to press about her role in the upcoming Len Wiseman-directed film, which is set for release on June 6. The Hollywood Reporter caught up with de Armas at the event for a brief four-question interview.
Nice job onstage yesterday. The Ballerina action scene played so well. It wasn’t mentioned that there’s so much more to come even during that wild sequence …
Yeah, all the action scenes are pretty long in the movie. We get to the point where we feel the character is pretty overwhelmed.

It’s not uncommon for franchises to deteriorate with each passing release, especially under a studio-driven environment, with some of the lone exceptions being Mission: Impossible and John Wick. Although time will tell whether Mi 8 will serve as a conclusion to Ethan’s story or not, for the latter, we did get an immaculate send-off for Keanu Reeves’s titular figure.

You just can't keep a good Baba Yaga down! Yes, despite Keanu Reeves' mythic hitman John Wick having seemingly met his maker on the steps of the Sacré-Cœur in John Wick: Chapter 4, it would appear that rumours of Wick's death have been greatly exaggerated after all. Taking to the stage at CinemaCon earlier today ahead of the release of hotly anticipated Ana de Armas Wickiverse spin-off Ballerina, Lionsgate chair Adam Fogelson announced that John Wick 5 is indeed in the works, with Reeves attached to once again star and franchise helmsman Chad Stahelski set to call the shots as director.
Per THR's reporting from CinemaCon, no details have been revealed as of yet regarding the plot of John Wick 5, who else will star alongside Reeves, or indeed when we can expect to see the bearded Bogeyman's return hit cinemas. But, talking to convention goers, Fogelson did say the following: "Keanu,...

Action fans rejoice! The John Wick spin-off led by Chapter 4 star and martial arts icon Donnie Yen is finally happening, with the actor all set to return to both star and direct the project. The spin-off was announced at the ongoing CinemaCon event, with Yen making a comeback as Caine, the blind High Table assassin and old friend of Wick who stole the show back in 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4.
The Caine spin-off is something that both fans, and Donnie Yen, have wanted to see ever since the character made his debut. While some details are still being kept under wraps, the movie will pick up following the events of John Wick: Chapter 4, which saw Caine freed from his obligations to the High Table and returning to Paris to reunite with his estranged daughter...before being approached by a vengeful Akira (Rina Sawayama).

Donnie Yen is returning to the world of “John Wick,” this time with some additional responsibilities.
The martial arts legend will star as Caine, the blind assassin from “John Wick: Chapter 4,” in a new spinoff film for Lionsgate. Yen will also direct the movie, which will begin production in Hong Kong later this year. The announcement was made as part of Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation.
Like all other installments in the ever-growing “John Wick” franchise, the Caine movie will be produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee through their Thunder Road banner and by series director Chad Stahelski, who produces through his 87Eleven Entertainment production company. Yen will also serve as an executive producer.
The movie’s logline is being kept under wraps, probably in a locked drawer at the Continental.
Mattson Tomlin has also joined the project to write the film; a previous draft was written by Robert Askins.

Some legends just don't die, and that apparently goes twice for the Baba Yaga. Ever since the credits rolled on "John Wick: Chapter 4" and its conveniently ambiguous ending that saw Keanu Reeves' vengeful assassin John Wick "dead" and buried (though without any actual body in sight), fans have been waiting on pins and needles for his inevitable return. The filmmakers and cast have all essentially said the same thing in the years since, maintaining that the franchise could potentially continue with its leading man in tow ... though only if they cracked a story that truly called for it.

The latest spin-off set in the John Wick universe just got a glorious update. During Lionsgate’s official panel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson took the stage to announce that Donnie Yen will direct the upcoming Caine spin-off film, which will begin production later this year in Hong Kong. Collider exclusively reported this now-confirmed news at the start of the year during an interview with Caine to promote his latest project, The Prosecutor. The studio has also announced that Mattson Tomlin (The Batman Part II) will pen the script for the currently untitled spin-off. Additional casting is being kept under wraps, as are plot details. Caine’s character first appeared in John Wick: Chapter 4, the 2023 action vehicle that grossed $440 million at the global box office.

Lionsgate held its official panel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this morning, finally delivering the announcement that fans have been waiting for. After confirming weeks ago that John Wick 5 was in development, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson revealed that Keanu Reeves will return and reprise his role as the Baba Yaga in the film, with veteran director Chad Stahelski set to helm the fifth installment. Lionsgate is also reuniting with Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, who will produce the film alongside Reeves and Stahelski. Plot details and additional casting are being kept under wraps, and the studio declined to give a potential release date. Early development on John Wick 5 is officially underway, and a filming start date has not been set.
Since John Wick: Chapter 4 was released in theaters during the summer of 2023, the road to development for John Wick 5 has been a roller coaster.

John Wick will return in “Chapter 5,” as it was officially announced on Tuesday that Lionsgate is in development on the next film in the billion-dollar franchise. The announcement was made on the CinemaCon stage by Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson.

The most recent film in the franchise, “John Wick: Chapter 4,” took in over $440 million at the worldwide box office, with each of the first four films accomplishing the rare feat of outperforming its predecessor.
“Keanu, Chad, Basil and Erica would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world,” Fogelson said on the CinemaCon stage. “We can’t wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next.

Lionsgate has confirmed a fifth John Wick movie is in the works, with Keanu Reeves reprising his role as the eponymous character.
Titled John Wick: Chapter 5, the studio is developing the film with franchise director Chad Stahelski, who is also producing alongside Reeves and Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee.
Back in 2020, Lionsgate announced John Wick 5 would be filmed back-to-back with John Wick: Chapter 4, but those plans were scrapped due to the pandemic.
The ending of the fourth installment also called into question whether Reeves’ character could return, though the actor recently intimated that Wick’s purported death ruled out the possibility. Perhaps that was just a misdirection.

It’s hardly been a week since Lionsgate confirmed that a fifth John Wick movie was in the works, and while it remains unclear if Keanu Reeves will be involved, that didn’t stop Diamond Select from dropping a new figure of the Baba Yaga. Diamond Select has debuted the first image of a new John Wick figure based on his appearance in John Wick: Chapter 4, the fourth installment in the hit action franchise directed by Chad Stahelski. The new figure is now available for pre-order from DiamondSelectToys.com, retailing for $75 and expected to launch later this year. The collectible shows John Wick standing with a sword in one hand and a set of nunchucks in the other, slashing through a pane of stained-glass while down on one knee.
Even though John Wick died at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4, there are avenues for a potential return.

He is readying for the release his follow-up to Barbarian, an ensemble horror piece titled Weapons. Abrams makes up part of the cast, which includes Josh Brolin and Julia Garner. Resident Evil would mark a reunion between the two, should any deal make.

Constantin Film is producing and co-financing the film. Constantin’s Robert Kulzer, Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee (Barbarian,) and Miri Yoon (Weapons) as well as PlayStation Productions are also producing.
