An untitled propulsive romantic thriller starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock is in development at Amazon MGM Studios, the company announced on Friday.

Noah Oppenheim is writing the script, with plot details for the film being kept under wraps.

“Speed” stars Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are getting back together for a romantic thriller in development at Amazon MGM Studios.

The untitled project’s producers are Bullock via Fortis Films, Reeves, Mark Gordon and Bibby Dunn via The Mark Gordon Company, and Oppenheim and Sarah Bremner via Prologue Entertainment.

Reeves, Bullock and Gordon worked together on 1994’s “Speed,” while Reeves and Bullock also starred together in 2006’s “The Lake House.”

Reeves most recently starred in and executive produced “John Wick: Chapter 4,” as well reprising his iconic role as Neo in the 2021 film “The Matrix Resurrections.” He is represented by WME, Range Media Partners, and Scott Sims.

The project is more than just a Reeves and Bullock reunion. The duo are also reteaming with Mark Gordon, who produced Speed. Gordon and Oppenheim brought the idea for the project to Reeves and Bullock, who went on to develop the film with them.

In a widely expected move, Lionsgate shareholders Wednesday voted overwhelmingly in favor of the separation of the company’s studio business and the Starz subscription business.

The vote came at Lionsgate’s annual shareholder held April 23. At the meeting, all other proxy resolutions, including the slate of board of director nominees and executive compensation, were also approved. In an SEC filing, Lionsgate said 99.82% of Class A shares and 99.27% of Class B shares were voted in favor of the separation. Shareholders also approved combining our Lionsgate’s two classes of stock into a single class.

The transaction separating Lionsgate Studios and Starz is expected to occur on or about May 5, 2025, the company said. Under the plan, Starz will be led by current CEO Jeff Hirsch and will trade under the stock symbol Strz. Lionsgate Studios trades under the symbol Lion.

The film opened with $63 million at the global box office, including $48 million from domestic earnings and $15 million from international markets. The film was produced for a reported budget of $90 million, meaning it still needs around $180 million to break even. Still, a $63 million start is outstanding for an original horror movie with such strong reviews. Ballerina's lead engages the Baba Yaga in a brand new poster for the upcoming John Wick spinoff.

The poster spotlights Ana de Armas' Eve Macarro in a crowded field of new and familiar faces to the John Wick universe, including Wick (Keanu Reeves), the Director (Anjelica Huston), and Winston (Ian McShane) surrounded by guns and ornamental backgrounds. A knife fight between Macarro and Wick can also be seen in the middle of the poster, mirroring the recent Ballerina trailer shown at CinemaCon. The Highlander cannot die! After originally being set up at Lionsgate as a potential new universe of movies from the director of the “John Wick” series, director Chad Stahelski’s remake of the 1980s cult film “Highlander” is changing sides.

Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists, as led by former Netflix film chief Scott Stuber, are in final negotiations to secure the rights to remake a new version of “Highlander,” again with the aim to release the film in theaters.

Instead of yet another new take on it, Stahelski is still attached to direct, and “Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill is still attached to star (looks like all of that sword training he told CinemaCon crowds he was doing won’t go to waste). Michael Finch (“John Wick: Chapter 4”) is writing the screenplay. United Artists too still has hopes that the film could be developed into a larger new series.

Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists’ (UA) and Scott Stuber are in final talks to secure the rights to the cult classic 1980s action fantasy franchise “Highlander” and the planned remake set to begin production this fall. The film will be released in theaters and is being acquired in turnaround from Lionsgate.

Henry Cavill is attached to star with Chad Stahelski (“John Wick” franchise) set to direct. Michael Finch (“John Wick: Chapter 4”) wrote the script.

I'll let you know right now that if you loved Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, you must watch this movie today. This isn't in Tarantino's style. There isn't a lot of snappy dialogue, and certainly no hip 70s soundtrack. It does have a lot of, in the words of your favorite streamer's advisory language, "strong bloody violence, gore, and language."

To close out their CinemaCon presentation today, Lionsgate officially announced John Wick: Chapter 5, which is now in active development at the studio, with both director Chad Stahelski and star Keanu Reeves set to return.

To date, the franchise has grossed over $1.028 billion at the global box office, with each installment grossing more than the last. The original John Wick earned $86 million worldwide, John Wick: Chapter 2 grossed $174.3 million, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum topped $328.3 million, and, most recently, John Wick: Chapter 4 collected $440.1 million worldwide.

A spinoff film, titled Ballerina is due out this summer, and two more John Wick films were announced earlier today: an anipated prequel film that will follow Baba Yaga as he completes The Impossible Task, and a Caine spinoff film that will follow Donnie Yen's character after the events of Chapter 4.

Action fans rejoice! The John Wick spin-off led by Chapter 4 star and martial arts icon Donnie Yen is finally happening, with the actor all set to return to both star and direct the project. The spin-off was announced at the ongoing CinemaCon event, with Yen making a comeback as Caine, the blind High Table assassin and old friend of Wick who stole the show back in 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4.

The Caine spin-off is something that both fans, and Donnie Yen, have wanted to see ever since the character made his debut. While some details are still being kept under wraps, the movie will pick up following the events of John Wick: Chapter 4, which saw Caine freed from his obligations to the High Table and returning to Paris to reunite with his estranged daughter...before being approached by a vengeful Akira (Rina Sawayama).

Donnie Yen is returning to the world of “John Wick,” this time with some additional responsibilities.

The martial arts legend will star as Caine, the blind assassin from “John Wick: Chapter 4,” in a new spinoff film for Lionsgate. Yen will also direct the movie, which will begin production in Hong Kong later this year. The announcement was made as part of Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation.

Like all other installments in the ever-growing “John Wick” franchise, the Caine movie will be produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee through their Thunder Road banner and by series director Chad Stahelski, who produces through his 87Eleven Entertainment production company. Yen will also serve as an executive producer.

The movie’s logline is being kept under wraps, probably in a locked drawer at the Continental.

Mattson Tomlin has also joined the project to write the film; a previous draft was written by Robert Askins.

Collider exclusively reported this now-confirmed news at the start of the year during an interview with Caine to promote his latest project, The Prosecutor. The studio has also announced that Mattson Tomlin (The Batman Part II) will pen the script for the currently untitled spin-off. Additional casting is being kept under wraps, as are plot details. Caine’s character first appeared in John Wick: Chapter 4, the 2023 action vehicle that grossed $440 million at the global box office.

After confirming weeks ago that John Wick 5 was in development, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson revealed that Keanu Reeves will return and reprise his role as the Baba Yaga in the film, with veteran director Chad Stahelski set to helm the fifth installment. Lionsgate is also reuniting with Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, who will produce the film alongside Reeves and Stahelski. Plot details and additional casting are being kept under wraps, and the studio declined to give a potential release date. Early development on John Wick 5 is officially underway, and a filming start date has not been set.

Since John Wick: Chapter 4 was released in theaters during the summer of 2023, the road to development for John Wick 5 has been a roller coaster.

Keanu Reeves is returning for “John Wick 5” as the nunchuck-wielding hitman, Lionsgate announced at CinemaCon on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the action franchise is expanding with an animated prequel film as well as a Caine-centric standalone adventure from director-star Donnie Yen. These projects are complementary to the upcoming Ana de Armas-led “Ballerina,” which opens in theaters on June 6.

De Armas stopped by the annual convention for movie theater owners, which is currently unfolding in Las Vegas, to showcase an extended look at “Ballerina.” In the action-packed sequence, her character Eve Macarro, a ballerina who is training to become an assassin, kicks ass as she faces off against several adversaries in an abandoned bar — shooting one baddie in the face and smashing several plates against another adversary.

“Keanu, Chad, Basil and Erica would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world,” Fogelson said on the CinemaCon stage. “We can’t wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next.

“John Wick” will return – but perhaps not in the way that you’d expect. An animated “John Wick” prequel is on the way from “Ultraman: Rising” director Shannon Tindle. Keanu Reeves is expected to return to voice the character in the animated feature.

Titled John Wick: Chapter 5, the studio is developing the film with franchise director Chad Stahelski, who is also producing alongside Reeves and Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee.

Back in 2020, Lionsgate announced John Wick 5 would be filmed back-to-back with John Wick: Chapter 4, but those plans were scrapped due to the pandemic.

The ending of the fourth installment also called into question whether Reeves’ character could return, though the actor recently intimated that Wick’s purported death ruled out the possibility. Perhaps that was just a misdirection.

Montreal-based VFX firm Rodeo FX, the visual effects credits of which include Games of Thrones, Stranger Things, The Rings of Power, John Wick: Chapter 4 and Dune, has acquired former Technicolor Group subsidiary Mikros Animation.

Mikros Animation was among four France-based Technicolor Group subsidiaries alongside Mpc, The Mill and Technicolor Animations placed in receivership following the collapse of parent group at the end of February. The Paris Commercial Court was due to deliver its decision on offers for all the subsidiaries on Thursday.

Diamond Select has debuted the first image of a new John Wick figure based on his appearance in John Wick: Chapter 4, the fourth installment in the hit action franchise directed by Chad Stahelski. The new figure is now available for pre-order from DiamondSelectToys.com, retailing for $75 and expected to launch later this year. The collectible shows John Wick standing with a sword in one hand and a set of nunchucks in the other, slashing through a pane of stained-glass while down on one knee.

Even though John Wick died at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4, there are avenues for a potential return.

Euphoria actor Austin Abrams has emerged as the choice to star in Sony Pictures’ and Zach Cregger’s reboot of horror action movie Resident Evil.

Cregger, the filmmaker who became part of the horror genre’s new generation thanks for his breakout Barbarian, wrote the script and is directing the feature.

He is readying for the release his follow-up to Barbarian, an ensemble horror piece titled Weapons. Abrams makes up part of the cast, which includes Josh Brolin and Julia Garner. Resident Evil would mark a reunion between the two, should any deal make.

Sony is moving fast on Resident Evil and a summer shoot in Europe is being planned. Cregger is said to already be scouting.

Constantin Film is producing and co-financing the film. Constantin’s Robert Kulzer, Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee (Barbarian,) and Miri Yoon (Weapons) as well as PlayStation Productions are also producing.
