When most cinephiles think of Francis Ford Coppola, they think of his miracle run in the 1970s. During that decade, he directed four films, all of them five-star masterpieces: The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather, Part II, and Apocalypse Now. Or they think of embarrassments from his for-hire period, including the Robin Williams weepy Jack. Yet those five films hardly encapsulate the entire career of Francis Ford Coppola, which will likely end with the upcoming Megalopolis. Instead the best indication of Coppola as an artist and filmmaker might be found in the most recent movies he’s made, with Coppola having released three self-produced and self-financed pictures every two years between 2007 and 2011: Youth Without Youth, Twixt, and Tetro.
Although they vary in quality, and none top his work from the ’70s, this independent trio captures the experimental and romantic heart that lies at the center of Coppola’s overall oeuvre.

The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths was the Arrowverse's sixth crossover event and aired across five parts from December 2019 - January 2020.
The story played out across episodes of Supergirl, Batwoman, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow, and featured plenty of fan-pleasing cameos. Those included Kevin Conroy as a live-action Batman, Brandon Routh's return as Superman, and Ezra Miller as The Flash (simpler times).
While it was made on a TV budget, Crisis on Infinite Earths received plenty of praise and delivered a much stronger take on the classic comic book story than this year's poorly-received animated movies.
Talking on his personal blog, Arrowverse architect Marc Guggenheim reflected on the event and confirmed there were once plans for the five-part story to receive a theatrical release.

With James Gunn taking over the Dcu and using a new Superman film as the starting line, what can we expect from the upcoming film?

Before Luke Mitchell made a home on Chicago Med this season, the ubiquitous Australian actor appeared on many, many TV shows, including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Blindspot, The Code, Legacies and Big Sky.
But it’s Mitchell’s breakout Stateside role on The CW’s The Tomorrow People, where he played the superpowered group’s leader John Young, that stands out for the actor. When asked which of his past characters he would like to revisit, Mitchell is quick to single out the short-lived series, which aired during the 2013-14 TV season.

DC Studios has been in a bit of trouble as they have attempted to rescue the sinking ship of the superhero slates getting released. With James Gunn taking over as the co-ceo of the superhero brand with Peter Safran, Warner Brothers is expecting a ray of sunshine. But with the failed DC movies, the fate of several movies has been hazy, including Asher Angel’s Shazam 2.
Asher Angel in Shazam! Fury of the Gods
Gunn’s tenure in DC has started, but the beginning of his new version of DC Universe is yet to roll out, which will officially begin with his upcoming movie Superman. Failure of the recent DC flops was a huge question mark on several heroes’ return— Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, Ezra Miller’s The Flash, and Zachary Levi’s Shazam 2. But with Gunn’s takeover, the potential comeback has been slim to none.

This article contains spoilers for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
At the end of Planet of the Apes, the human astronaut who strove to understand the strange, simian-occupied planet made a shocking discovery. Horror overwhelms him as he struggles to make sense of the honored American monument before him, now barely recognizable.
Of course, that description can refer to the twist ending of the 1968 sci-fi classic, in which Charlton Heston falls on his knees at the sight of a decimated Statue of Liberty, realizing that he has been on a post-nuclear Earth the whole time. However, it also describes the less loved 2001 Planet of the Apes, directed by Tim Burton. In that film, Mark Wahlberg’s astronaut makes it back to the past only to find an ape version of the Lincoln Monument.
On a narrative level, the ending of 2001 Apes makes no sense, not even to Burton.

Actor Grant Gustin wore the Flash suit for nine years as he starred as the titular character in The CW’s The Flash. A part of the Arrowverse series of TV shows, The Flash saw Barry Allen become the scarlet speedster after being struck by lightning in Central City. The series sees him fight various antagonists and also find the killer of his mother.
Though he was grateful for getting the opportunity to play the character, Gustin reportedly suffered while putting on the costume for the show. The Flash costume included a red one-piece suit and a face mask that covered most of his face. The actor mentioned how tough it was to get in and out of the suit and how he used to spend hours in the suit while filming.

One major problem that plagued most Arrowverse shows was CW’s inability to end them at the right time. While most of them started on a high note, especially Grant Gustin’s The Flash, which was the biggest superhero show on TV upon its release, the writers couldn’t carry the momentum in the later seasons. But things could have been very different for the CW show that started it all, Arrow.
Had CW stuck to the original plans for the show, Arrow could’ve ended on a really high note, as instead of going on for 8 seasons, season 5 was originally intended to be the show’s end.

Despite not being connected to the larger Arrowverse, ‘Superman & Lois’ is easily the best CW superhero show in terms of quality writing. The show did have its ups and downs, especially last year.
After Nexstar acquired CW and the network was bound to be restructured, ‘Superman & Lois’ survived the onslaught during which many shows were canceled. This led to some of the main cast being let go, fewer writers and the episode count was slashed compared to previous seasons. Now after several months of filming the last season of ‘Superman & Lois’ has wrapped filming, ready for the Fall 2024 release date.
Speaking at Fan Expo Philadelphia Tom Cavanagh revealed he is both directing and acting in the final season of ‘Superman & Lois.’

While ‘Superman & Lois’ remains distinct from the broader Arrowverse, it stands out as the CW’s top superhero series due to its strong writing. Despite facing challenges, including changes following Nexstar’s acquisition of CW, the show managed to survive restructuring while other series were canceled.
This resulted in some main cast members being released, fewer writers, and a reduced episode count compared to previous seasons. Now, after months of filming, the final season of ‘Superman & Lois’ has concluded production, gearing up for its Fall 2024 premiere.

Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman has, no doubt, been one of the most favorite characters from the DC Universe, and nearly everyone who has played her to date has been widely loved in the role. One of the actresses who played her was actress Lynda Carter, who turned out to be so greatly endearing to both fans and critics that she is closely identified with the character to date.
Wonder Woman in the comics.
Being widely regarded as the most accurate Diana Prince, she gave her opinions on who the next person could be to carry on the superheroine’s legacy. Surprisingly enough, she was reported to have called Sandra Bullock “too old” for the role. However, Carter later on not only debunked these reports but also claimed she had even vouched for the actress to play the DC superhero.

Love or hate the Arrowverse, there's no denying that Tom Cavanagh's performance as the Reverse-Flash was hard to find fault with. As the years passed, The Flash diluted the character by having the actor play multiple versions of "Harrison Wells." However, in the suit, Cavanagh proved himself a truly formidable villain.
His story ended in the Scarlet Speedster's series, but we can look forward to at least one final appearance from the actor in the DC Universe.
Superman & Lois will conclude with its fourth and final season later this year, and unlike Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman, the show's creative team have received enough notice to craft what we hope will be a satisfying ending.
The question now is, will that ending include an appearance from Eobard Thawne?

DC’s The Flash Starring Ezra Miller Was Released In 2023 But Flopped At The Box Office ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
One of DC’s most ambitious projects was one of their worst box office failures. The Flash was an astounding failure despite its much-hyped status. The movie was clouded by the scandal of its lead, Ezra Miller, but its net profit suffered because of everything’s storyline. After a year, the movie emerged as the second most significant failure of 2023 and lost considerable money.
There was a lot of anticipation about The Flash, especially with the rumors of a Michael Keaton cameo. However, the movie’s public suffered after lead star Ezra Miller was arrested for heinous allegations. Still, die-hard fans of the franchise showed up, but it wasn’t enough. After garnering immense popularity following his appearance in Arrow, Grant Gustin’s Scarlet Speedster received his own standalone series in 2014, often considered the peak of the Arrowverse. Although the next two seasons had their fair share of issues but were received positively, from season 4, it was all downhill for the series, and it hit a new low with season 7.
While The Flash was notable for its pop culture references, season 7’s finale went a little above and beyond with its Star Wars homage, which didn’t sit well with fans in the slightest.

Disney’s Box Office Struggles in 2023 2023 was a turbulent year for Disney, as the entertainment giant faced significant box office disappointments. Among the most notable were the setbacks from The Marvels and The Flash, both of which fell short of their expected financial performances. Financial Turmoil for The Marvels Inconceivable financial losses marked Disney’s journey through 2023, with The Marvels encountering a staggering $237 million deficit. Not only did this movie fail to meet expectations, it also eclipsed the losses of The Flash, another superhero film that wrapped up with a $155 million shortfall. As Deadline reports, this makes

2023 was not a good year for Disney at the box office. With the exception of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, their films lost money according to Deadline’s”2023 Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament” list by Anthony D’Alessandro. ‘Guardians 3’ was just barely in the top 10 as it was in 9th place. To put this into perspective, tenth place was a “Paw Patrol” film.
In fact, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour movie beat all the Disney films and “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” which was released theatrically and on streaming simultaneously.
Four Disney films flopped, and ‘The Marvels’ was the biggest loser. Of the bottom five films, only’ The Flash’ was a non-Disney-owned film.
‘The Marvels’
According to Deadline’s estimates, the film lost $237 million, but that is after you add in home entertainment and TV/streaming numbers. That is a lot of money to lose! It would have been worse without Home video and TV/streaming revenue.

We’re deep into 2024 territory as of the time of writing, but our good friends and Deadline have decided to go back to last year and reveal the biggest box office bombs of 2023. It was a short trip down memory lane, but it was done properly because all the numbers were finally in, and there was enough time to objectively interpret the facts and numbers before us. This is why we decided to report on this list.
The list contains five titles and we are going to reveal them to you, as well as all the relevant numbers. Long story short, out of the five titles on this list, four belong to Disney/MCU and one to Warner, so it seems that Disney is undoubtedly the biggest loser of 2023, especially since some of the titles in question are major ones. Now, let us start!

Disney normally finds itself at the top of the box office rankings, thanks to its ownership of well-known franchises like Marvel and Star Wars, but last year was an exception. Recently, Deadline claimed that Disney was involved in four of the top five box office bombs of 2023. The company had numerous setbacks that caused its fortunes to plummet. However, The Marvels was one of the most surprising misfires.
The Marvels
Who could have predicted that Brie Larson’s last MCU outing would end in a financial letdown, causing more of a tremor than even the Dceu’s The Flash?
Yes, you read that right. As unbelievable as it may seem, Nia DaCosta’s flick endured a staggering net loss of $237 million, outdoing the Ezra Miller starrer. Speaking about the latter, it even sprinted away from the spotlight with a $155 million shortfall.

The CW has spawned a number of DC shows in the past few decades, and The Flash stands among the best of them. Running for nine seasons, the TV show chronicled the journey of the Scarlet Speedster, while also having crossovers and making cameos in other DC shows. However, there were times when The Flash was incredibly close to finishing its run, before it was stretched to 9 seasons.

The Flash was originally supposed to end after Season 8, but thanks to fan support and CW execs, the series was given another chance to conclude its story properly.

With major franchises such as Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar under its roof, Disney typically finds itself on the top of the box-office heap, but that wasn’t the case last year. The company had more than a few failures which found its fortunes falling, and Deadline reports that four of the five biggest box-office bombs of 2023 belonged to Disney.
First up, and least surprising, is The Marvels, the Captain Marvel sequel starring Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris. As its predecessor grossed $1.1 billion, it was hoped that the sequel would equal that number, but the film turned out to be a bomb of epic proportions, grossing just $206 million worldwide. The film reportedly found Disney taking a loss of $237 million. Yikes.

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for "The Fall Guy."
Don't look now, but Hollywood is going back to its old-school roots with "The Fall Guy." Director David Leitch's throwback blockbuster (reviewed here by /Film's Jacob Hall) not only gives stunt people the overdue celebration that they heartily deserve, but it uses some very tried-and-true methods to do so. Relying almost entirely on the star power of Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt along with the undeniable chemistry sizzling between the two leads, the rom-com masquerading as an action film might as well be shaking audiences by the collar to remind them why we go to the movies in the first place. Brian Blessed speaks – well, booms – to Empire about the formidable Gungan leader.
“It took your bloody head off!” bellows Brian Blessed down the phone line, as only he can. The legendarily bushy-bearded 87-year-old actor is recounting for Empire the first time he saw Star Wars: in 1977, having been made aware of the film from a “great big billboard at Snow Hill railway station in Birmingham”, Blessed sallied forth to the first cinema he could find. An avowed science-fiction nerd and keen space enthusiast — “I am actually a fully trained astronaut”, he notes several times during our conversation — he found himself transfixed. “Here was something totally, completely original. It was by far the finest science-fiction film I’d ever seen.”

2023 wasn't a good year for superhero movies, with the vast majority of them drawing negative reviews and poor box office returns. One of the most shocking flops, however, was The Marvels.
Captain Marvel made over $1 billion in 2019 and the follow-up saw Carol Danvers paired up with WandaVision's Monica Rambeau and Ms. Marvel's title character. Now, Deadline has crunched the numbers and revealed that The Marvels' $206.1 million global box office haul was worse than we realised.
According to the trade, when all is said and done, the movie made a net loss of $237 million. It's no wonder then that Disney CEO Bob Iger has said Marvel Studios will begin moving away from developing unnecessary sequels.
As for what the future holds in store for these characters, it's hard to say.

The year 1989 saw Tim Burton joining the world of DC Comics with his movie Batman. Michael Keaton starred as the brooding vigilante opposite Jack Nicholson’s Joker. The movie also spawned a sequel titled Batman Returns in the year 1992.
Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman
The idea for the movie first came from the mind of Michael E. Ulsan, who purchased the film rights of Batman from DC Comics in 1979 along with his producing partner, Benjamin Melniker. He wanted to bring back the dark and serious Batman instead of the campy 1960 version from the Adam West-led television series. But it took him a long time to find a home for the Dark Knight before Tim Burton and Michael Keaton could give the audience a Batman like that of the 1989 movie.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

The Dark Knight trilogy is one of the finest superhero franchises out there, and while The Dark Knight Rises did close the book on Christian Bale’s Batman, screenwriter Jonathan Nolan would eagerly return for more.
Jonathan Nolan, who co-wrote both The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, was asked by Showsha if he’d like to return to the Batman franchise. “Wouldn’t that be a dream?” Nolan said. “That period was 10 years of my life [from] when I got the call to work on Batman Begins, and it was epic. Working with Christian [Bale], Heath [Ledger], Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and to honor an American icon. If I had the chance to go back and work on that again? Absolutely.“
Getting that bang back together would be a tall order, as Nolan admitted, “We’ve moved onto other things,” and “other people have picked up the mantel and moved on with those characters.

Winston Duke emerged as one of the standouts of both Black Panther movies thanks to his memorable take on M'Baku, and by all accounts, the actor is also a major highlight of The Fall Guy.
Duke has yet to establish himself as a Hollywood leading man, but all it takes is the right role, and the actor has set his sights on what will likely be the most sought-after part in Hollywood down the line.
