Since appearing in the Starz series "Da Vinci's Demons," British actor Tom Bateman has generated a lot of buzz in the world of film and television. Tom notably shared the screen with Amy Schumer in 2017's "Snatched" and starred alongside Willem Dafoe, Penélope Cruz, and Johnny Depp in Ridley Scott''s "Murder on the Orient Express." Most recently, he can be seen in Peacock's comedy-thriller series "Based on a True Story" with Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina.
While some actors are born into families in the entertainment industry, Tom came from a normal, working-class family that consisted of his two parents and a total of 13 siblings, including twin brother Merlin. According to a 2018 interview with The Scotsman, Tom was born and raised in Oxford, England. His mother worked as a primary school teacher, while his father taught music in school. Goldie Hawn has been a star for more than 50 years. She got her start dancing and giggling, often in a bikini, on "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In," a seminal TV comedy series of the late 1960s. She left the show to focus on her film career. At first, her film roles were pretty similar to the free spirit/dumb blonde act she did on "Laugh-In," but her potential as a comedic actor shone through, and by the 1980s, she was leading movies herself. After starring in some classics of the '80s and '90s, she left acting behind in the early 2000s, focusing on her family, writing her autobiography, and running the Hawn Foundation, a nonprofit that helps disadvantaged kids perform better in school.
After a 15-year hiatus from the big screen, Goldie Hawn returned to star with Amy Schumer in the comedy "Snatched." Since then, she's appeared alongside her real-life partner,...

Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep have a lot in common. Both are pop culture icons as well as respected actors – and both have appeared in many hit movies over the years. Book adaptations became a regular part of the Hollywood narrative in the 2000s, and the craze doesn’t appear to be fading anytime soon. ABC has even jumped on board with their latest television drama, Will Trent, based on a book series by Karin Slaughter. But adaptations always come with loyal fanbases who just want to see their favorite books translated well onscreen. And sometimes, they are very unhappy with the finished product.

Jonathan Levine, the filmmaker behind the comedy “Long Shot’ and tear-jerker “50/50,” is taking his talents to the Catskills.
He’s been hired by Lionsgate to direct a sequel to 1987’s “Dirty Dancing,” with Jennifer Grey set to reprise her classic role as Frances “Baby” Houseman. No word as to whether she’ll be in a corner.
Prior to finding himself in the director’s chair, Levine was already attached to the project as a producer. He also co-wrote the screenplay with Elizabeth Chomko. The follow-up film, also titled “Dirty Dancing,” is expected to go into production later this year for release in 2024. International sales will launch later this month in Cannes.
Lionsgate announced back in 2020 that another “Dirty Dancing” story was in the works. Little is known about the next chapter, but Levine has hinted the sequel will include music from the original movie, as well as ’90s hip-hop.

Netflix psychological thriller Behind Her Eyes, adapted from Sarah Pinborough’s hit novel of the same name, sets its cast an unenviably tough task (and not just because almost everyone’s having to do a regional accent). Through subtleties and shifts in their performances, Eve Hewson, Tom Bateman, Simona Brown and Robert Aramayo need to keep the audience invested while keeping us guessing. What is it we’re watching? Is this six-part series the tale of Adele and David’s brittle marriage and the secrets that bind them? Or the story of single-mother Louise (Simona Brown) getting in over her head with this glamorous new couple? Could it be something else entirely?
While you’re asking yourself those questions, you’ll likely be asking another: where have I seen that guy before? While we can’t help with the former and stay spoiler-free, we can answer that one…

Exclusive: Raven Goodwin has been tapped to play legendary actress Hattie McDaniel, the first African American to ever win an Oscar, in Behind the Smile. The indie film is being produced by Jami McCoy-Lankford of Hillionaire Productions and Global Genesis Group, which is also handling sales.
Gregory Blair penned the screenplay for the inspiring story of McDaniel, who famously played Mammy in 1939’s Gone With the Wind, a role that earned her the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. She wasn’t allowed to sit amongst her peers during the segregated ceremony.
McDaniel endured racism and racial segregation throughout her storied career. She also faced backlash from the Black community, including the NAACP, for taking on stereotypical maid or slave roles. She died in 1952 at age 57 of breast cancer. Despite the criticisms, McDaniel has no doubt left an indelible mark in Hollywood.

Okay, who’s ready for “family time” at the movies? Now I’m not talking about the standard “family flick” that’s usually the big animated musical fable that many use as a weekend afternoon “out of the house” excursion. And lots of you may feel a tad skittish about trotting all the kids over to the multiplex (soon we hope). This week we’ve got a real “family” film dealing with lots of adult themes that are aimed at the “grown-ups”. Oh, and it’s focused on a rare “family dynamic”: the father-daughter relationship. Often we see dynamic clashes between mother and daughter (2017’s Snatched comes to mind) or brittle reunions of fathers and sons as when Indy and his pop went on that “last crusade”. On TV this pairing has been a staple from “My Little Margie” to “Gidget” leading up to the recent, sublime duo of...

Disney is conjuring up a new “Haunted Mansion” live-action movie, based on its 51-year-old Disneyland theme park ride, with “Ghostbusters” writer Katie Dippold attached.
Producers are Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich through their Rideback banner. Lin has extensive producer experience with the “Sherlock Holmes,” “It” and “Lego” franchises. He and Eirich teamed on Disney’s live-action “Aladdin” movie last year.
“The Haunted Mansion” opened at Disneyland in 1969 and was an immediate success, spawning similar rides at Walt Disney World in Florida and Tokyo Disneyland. Patrons are placed in a “Doom Buggy” riding through a haunted house with dozens of supernatural scares.
Disney used the ride as inspiration for its 2003 horror comedy “The Haunted Mansion” with Eddie Murphy portraying a workaholic realtor who buys a mansion that turns out to be haunted. The movie, directed by Rob Minkoff, grossed $182 million worldwide on a $90 million budget.

Chernin Entertainment, the production company run by Peter Chernin, has signed a first-look, non-exclusive deal with Netflix for films, an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.
Chernin was previously set up at Fox but the executive called it quits with the company following the Disney-Fox merger. The split was due to Disney’s aversion to bring on third party partners to finance its films.
Terms of the deal between Chernin and Netflix were not disclosed.

The partnership between Chernin Entertainment and Fox produced such hits as the new “Planet of the Apes” trilogy reboot, “Hidden Figures” and “The Greatest Showman.” Some bombs, like “Snatched” and “Tolkien” also came out of the partnership.
Most recently, Chernin produced James Mangold’s “Ford v Ferrari,” which scored four Oscar nominations and won two, and which also grossed $117 million at the domestic box office.

Disney and Peter Chernin on Friday called it quits on the long standing film production deal the former Fox executive’s Chernin Entertainment had with 20th Century Fox.
The split was an amicable one, and had more to do with Disney’s aversion to bring on third party partners to finance its films.
Disney inherited the production partnership when it acquired Fox’s film and TV entertainment assets for $71.3 billion last year.
“I have nothing but praise for Disney. They were gracious, classy and paved the way for me to continue to build the company however we want,” Chernin said in a statement.

Chernin Entertainment will retain roughly 70 of the more than 80 films it had in development at 20th Century. The projects staying with Disney — like the new “Planet of the Apes” film — are based on Disney-held IP.

Mother's Day weekend is looking as if it will be yet another Avengers-led weekend at the box office as Avengers: Endgame will become only the fourth film ever to top $700 million at the domestic box office this weekend, but this holiday weekend won't only be about Avengers. Warner Bros. is releasing the highly anticipated video game adaptation Pokemon: Detective Pikachu in just over 4,200 locations while Stx and Uar will be vying for Mother's Day audiences with Poms and The Hustle respectively. Additionally, Disney has changed things up with Fox Searchlight's Tolkien, which was originally scheduled to begin its limited run this weekend, but instead the Mouse House will give the film a wide berth in nearly 1,500 locations. Entering its third weekend in domestic release, Disney's Avengers: Endgame is looking to top $700 million this weekend and, in fact, should push over $730 million which will make it the third highest grossing...

It’s a familiar enough pattern: a rising director helms one or two well-received indie films that hit big on the festival circuit, gets enough attention to hit up Hollywood, and signs on for a blockbuster feature or two. From Ryan Coogler to Chloe Zhao, it’s no longer news when a filmmaker jumps from Sundance to Marvel. But when filmmaker Jonathan Levine was in the mix to direct the latest iteration of “Spider-Man” after his well-reviewed festival hits “All the Boys Love Mandy Lane” and “The Wackness,” the director passed on the opportunity to take a different path: directing studio comedies.
Though Levine recently told IndieWire he interviewed “a few times” for the latest cinematic incarnation of “Spider-Man” — in 2015, he was rumored to be on a short list with other filmmakers like Ted Melfi and John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, before the gig went to Jon Watts...

Endgame is already up to £55m after just eight days on release in the UK.
Last week’s remarkable opening for Disney’s Avengers: Endgame means even if the film suffers a relatively standard drop this weekend (50-60%), it will still dominate the chart for a second week.
Endgame kicked off with a three-day £31.4m, far ahead of the previous benchmark of £24.3m held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. After midweeks, the film was up to a huge £55m after just eight days.
The Marvel title is expected to become one of the highest-grossing films in UK box office history.

It Happened One Election: Levine Finds Levity in Winning Political Rom-Com
While it arguably doesn’t go for broke and can’t quite shake the well-grooved predictability of its age-old formula, there’s much to admire and appreciate in Jonathan Levine’s biggest gamble to date with the aptly named Long Shot. Surfing in on its concept of trenchant unlikelihood, beginning with the pairing of its ‘mismatched’ leads and land-mine of topical political subtexts, a disarming script from Liz Hannah and Dan Sterling (“Girls”) is a smartly retrofitted portrait of the underdog.…...

The romantic-comedy director’s main job is to create a story so charming that it convinces viewers to suspend reality, to make them cast away logic, be dazzled and let themselves fall in love with love.
“Notting Hill” had to make us believe a world-famous actress would just randomly show up in a cozy London neighborhood and fall in love with the owner of a travel bookstore. Definitely unrealistic and yet we allow ourselves to fall in love with it. And in “Long Shot,” director Jonathan Levine (“Snatched”) must convince us that Fred Flarsky (Seth Rogen), a left-leaning and unemployed journalist who lives in tapered pants, a baseball cap and windbreaker, could capture the heart of a smart, powerful, successful woman like U.S. Secretary of State Charlotte Field (Charlize Theron).

Former president and first lady Barack and Michelle Obama have set the executive team to run their newly-launched production company.
Priya Swaminathan, who came over as a producing partner last year, will serve as co-head of Higher Ground Productions with Tonia Davis. The two will be joined by Qadriyyah “Q” Shamsid-Deen, who will serve as a creative executive.
Higher Ground Productions has a multi-year deal with Netflix to create scripted and unscripted, docu-series, documentaries and features. The company, which signed the deal last March, expects to have an initial project lineup out soon.

Comedian and actress Amy Schumer is back with her fourth stand-up comedy special and her second at Netflix with Amy Schumer Growing. Like her fellow comedian, Ali Wong did in her special Baby Cobra, Schumer took the stage in front of a packed house in Chicago while pregnant and as the trailer above says, it shows a “new side” of the comedian. The comedy special will launch globally on the streaming service on March 19.
In Growing, Schumer gives a refreshingly honest and hilarious take on personal growth (hence the title). As seen in the trailer, she riffs on everything from being pregnant, the joy and “shock” of getting engaged and marital bliss. And what would a Schumer show be without talking about sex?
Since 2015 Schumer has been busy starring in a host of movies. She recently starred in the comedy I Feel Pretty and before that she was in Snatched...

The 2019 summer movie season is going to once again be dominated by superheroes (“Avengers: Endgame”), family blockbusters (“Toy Story 4”), and studio tentpoles (“The Lion King”), but when it comes to counter-programming it’s probably a good idea to place your bets on Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron delivering a comedy hit. The two stars are teaming up for the romantic-comedy “Long Shot,” co-written and directed by Rogen’s “50/50” director Jonathan Levine.
“Long Shot” stars Theron as Charlotte Field, the U.S. Secretary of State who decides to run for president herself after getting a glowing recommendation from Potus (Bob Odenkirk). Field seeks out speech writing help from Fred Flarsky (Rogen), who she used to babysit when the two were younger. As the two start spending more time together on the campaign trail, unexpected sparks begin to fly.
The question at the center of “Long Shot” is whether or not...

Actress and comedian Amy Schumer is taking the stage for her second Netflix stand-up special, Amy Schumer Growing. The I Feel Pretty star took to Instagram to make the news after teasing it Monday evening. The comedy special will launch globally on the streaming platform March 19.
In Amy Schumer Growing, she gives a refreshingly honest and hilarious take on marriage, pregnancy and personal growth. Filmed in front of a packed house in Chicago, the comedian talks about the joys of womanhood and settling into marital bliss. And it wouldn’t be a Schumer comedy special without some good ol’ fashioned Schumer-brand sex talk.
Since 2015 Schumer has been busy starring in a host of movies. She recently starred in the comedy I Feel Pretty and before that she was in Snatched with Goldie Hawn as well as Trainwreck. She has taken the stage for many stand-up specials including Amy Schumer: The...

Liam Neeson stepped out on Tuesday night in New York City to attend the premiere of his Lionsgate thriller “Cold Pursuit.”
However, the red carpet for the screening was canceled just hours before arrivals were to begin in the wake of the Neeson’s racially charged comments he recently made during an interview with the Independent. Neeson revealed that he once was hoping to kill some “black bastard” after a friend was brutally raped over 40 years ago.
Earlier in the day, Neeson appeared on “Good Morning America,” insisting his words were taken out of context. “I’m not a racist,” he told “Gma’s” Robin Roberts.
A source tells Variety that the red carpet for “Cold Pursuit” was nixed because Neeson felt like he said all he needed and wanted to say about the Independent interview.
The screening at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square started unceremoniously without any welcoming remarks...
